And he said, In me, my Lord, send I pray by the hand Thou wilt send. And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Moses, and He said, Is there not Aaron, thy brother, the Levite? I know that speaking he will speak. And also behold he goeth forth to meet thee; and he will see thee, and he will be glad in his heart. And thou shalt speak unto him, and shalt put the words in his mouth; and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do. And he shall speak for thee unto the people; and it shall be that he shall be to thee for a mouth, and thou shalt be to him for God. And thou shalt take in thy hand this rod, wherewith thou shalt do the signs. And Moses went, and returned to Jethro his father-in-law, and said to him, Let me go, I pray, and return unto my brethren who are in Egypt, and I shall see whether they yet live. And Jethro said to Moses, Go in peace. And Jehovah said unto Moses in Midian, Go, return into Egypt; because all the men seeking thy soul are dead. And Moses took his wife and his sons, and made them ride upon the ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt; and Moses took the rod of God in his hand. Exodus 4:13-20 Arcana Coelestia 7016. And said to him, Let me go, I pray, and return unto my brethren who are in Egypt. That this signifies elevation to more interior and more spiritual life in the natural, is evident from the signification of “going and returning,” as being what is successive of life, and here the successive of life is elevation to interior and more spiritual life, thus nearer to the Divine, for when “going and returning” are said of the Lord, who is represented by Moses, there is meant elevation to the Divine being or Jehovah who is in Him, and from whom He is; from the representation of the sons of Israel, who are here the “brethren,” as being the Lord's spiritual kingdom, and thence the spiritual church (see n. 6426, 6637); and from the signification of “Egypt” as being the natural (n. 6147, 6252). Hence it is plain that by “let me go and return unto my brethren who are in Egypt,” is signified elevation to more interior and more spiritual life in the natural. For as the dwelling of Moses in Midian signified life with those who are in the truth of simple good, thus in simple good (see n. 7015), so now dwelling with the sons of Israel signifies life with those who are in the truth and good of the spiritual church, which life is more interior and spiritual than the former. (That the good and truth of this church are in the natural, see n. 4286, 4402) Third Round posts are short audio clips taken from the Third Rounds of online Logopraxis Life Group meetings. The aim is to keep the focus on understanding the Text in terms of its application to our inner life, along with reinforcing any key Logopraxis principles that have been highlighted in the exchanges.

The Living Process Episode 16 Zen and Focusing as Personal Practice, with Christian Dillo I'm happy to announce The Living Process, Episode 16 with Christian Dillo. Christian and I were meeting for the first time in this episode. In this episode Christian and I speak about how he, even as an adolescent, would pause while speaking to say what he really meant and his later discovery of Gendlin's focusing and how it put into words a process that he was already engaged in. He was committed to authenticity and pausing and not talking in a way that alienated him from himself. He asks ‘What does the situation require from me' to carry itself forward. Christian's Focusing is self-taught - he Focuses has never taken a Focusing class or workshop. He has also studied Gendlin's philosophy and during the conversation, it's clear that he has a deep understanding of how the philosophy relates to the practice. Christian talks about why Zen practice was the way forward for him rather than going into the Focusing world and how he remains open to further collaboration with us. He also discusses his depression as a kind of shying away from intensity and how his Zen Buddhist practice was helpful in his discernment of ‘field' awareness and ‘focused' awareness. We touch on phenomenology as a transformative practice and both Focusing and Zen Buddhism as examples of that. We explore whether Focusing is a spiritual practice and about the possible drawbacks of thinking of Focusing as a ‘method'. Meeting Christian has made me wonder how many ‘Focusers' are out there on their own, without any connection to the larger community! Thank you to Iain Murdoch for suggesting Christian as a guest. Zenki Christian Dillo Roshi is the Resident Teacher at the Boulder Zen Center. He started his practice at the San Francisco Zen Center in 1996. For 20 years, he practiced monastically at the Crestone Mountain Zen Center. In 2013, he received dharma transmission from Zentatsu Baker Roshi. Since then, he has been the Boulder Zen Center Guiding Teacher. In 2020, he moved to Boulder full-time, where he now lives with his wife and son. Zenki Roshi teaches Zen on the understanding that, fundamentally, Buddhism is an embodied investigation of human experience with the intention of realizing liberation from suffering, wisdom, and compassion. He is the author of The Path of Aliveness: A Contemporary Zen Approach to Awakening Body and Mind (Shambhala, 2022). Withdrawal of the Senses.Returning to Yoga-8, the limbs of practice, E61 is all about Pratyahara (the fifth limb) withdrawal of the senses. Even after decades of study, practice, and teaching, there are aspects of Yoga that are a constant curiosity, Pratyahara is one of them.Sherry & Theresa decided to go on a field trip before tackling this notion of sense withdrawal and went floating. That's right, floating. Floating is akin to what we used to refer to as a, “sensory deprivation tank.” That was the expectation, total sensory deprivation. While the hosts did not withdraw from all their senses, they talk a bit about how the focus of floating in darkness that is the same with eyes open as closed, had an influence on their sensory experience that opened doors to understanding Pratyahara in a new way.Floating offered a new language with which to offer clarity (or at least an alternate road to clarity). This episode touches on what Pratyahara is, how it can be practiced in the modern world, and benefits of practice. Pratyahara is the 5th of 8 limbs and is the first of the more contemplative practices. Talking about Pratyahara brought up other subtle body anatomy maps (chakras, koshas, and more) which curiously overlay each other in symbiotic ways.Pratyahara asks us to notice what we notice. This conversation covers some of the basics, but if you wish to understand Pratyahara (or any of these limbs) in a more scholarly way, absolutely find a teacher with whom you can do the deeper dives. Whatever the ritual, home practice, or self-care routine may be, commitment to consistent practice is the key. There is value in taking public classes and being part of a community that supports each other. And there is value in taking it home and playing with it on your own.Knowing why you are practicing may also help you show up to your mat, cushion, keyboard, canvas, or cauldron on the daily. Start where you are – that may mean mindfully making your bed each day. Many of us are already practicing Yoga Naturally, without thought to its definitions or lineages. It creeps in when we find ourselves washing dishes with purpose and a little dance or singing while folding laundry. It shows up when we're patient, have a sense of humor, and hold space for whatever may arise in it.Sherry & Theresa talk about how their mindsets & practices have evolved and share a bit of their own personal ritualized practices.Do you have a daily practice? Ep. 28 (Part 2 of 2) | David Loy, Zen teacher, scholar, and prolific author, reveals his acute understanding of the crises we face today, the psychology at the root of the problems, and how we can make our way forward in this in-depth discussion. He has adopted the term ecodharma to focus attention on the challenge Buddhism faces now: integrating personal transformation with global activism and social transformation. As David points out, the focus needs to be on this world, with transcendence being a metaphorical understanding but not an excuse to abandon the problems we and our planet face today. Besides gaining great depth of knowledge from being a scholar and student of koans, David's insights come from a plethora of nondual experiences, which led David on a path of eco-action. Ecodharma asks: How does Buddhism need to change? How much is dwelling in emptiness becoming problematical in these challenging times? What's best for the Earth? Everyone says practice, practice, practice…when is the performance? Is evolutionary pressure going to create a new way of living sustainably? Recorded February 22, 2020. “When your sense of separation dissipates, it becomes not what's in it for me, but what can I do to help make this a better world for everybody?” Note: Regrettably 4 minutes of the recording were irretrievably lost at minute 21:26, but thankfully, the recording resumes just as Roger succinctly sums up the previous minutes of conversation. Also, this podcast was recorded live and includes, at times, some extraneous noises in the background. Please excuse them -- we felt the conversation was very valuable and well worth sharing with our audience. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
