Although their next event, Global Governance Gathering during Devconnect in Amsterdam will be their biggest yet highly experimental event to accelerate DAO creativity - The DAOist plans on going way beyond organizing conferences. In this episode, Felipe shares his story, The DAOist's story and some philosophical thoughts about life and DAOs. Some of the topics are: The DAOist Global Governance Gathering The DAOist's MetaHub in Lisbon Entrepreneurship metaphors Punching walls The ADHD of DAOs Metaphysics, poetry & pottery Felipe is one of the DA-OGs that was involved in projects like DAOstack, DAOFest, Metafactory, and PrimeDAO. Then he gathered around himself a team of artists to form The DAOist. The DAOist is a story about people who want to think differently about events and organize more intentional gatherings. Recently they created the MetaHub in Lisbon as a “plug-and-play creative retreat for the DAO space.” This hub for decentralized creativity attracts projects and groups to come together and focus on creative problems, as well as complex technological or political discussions. The MetaHub plans on providing every tool needed to catalyze thoughts and actions and, at the same time, feels like home. Felipe promotes focusing on things that are immediately doable to us and set actionable steps, keeping us grounded, feeling achieved & on an upward spiral while always keeping in mind that thoughts are actions and can affect the outside world as well as ourselves. "I don't think governance is like code, that you can just fork the system, and it works. I think governance depends on contextual navigation and hyper-aware practitioners." The Future of Marketing is Here with Jeremy Epstein, CMO, Gtmhub

Marketing Trends

Let's go to the moon!' ...is a great and lofty goal, but it doesn't mean much if you or I say it. Why? Because, just guessing, you don't have an actual plan for how to do that, or the means, for that matter. Point is, you need an actual plan, with real numbers and defined goals, and set time frames in order to achieve your goals. My guest this week, the CMO of GTMhub, Jeremy Epstein gets this and is passionate about the usefulness and importance of OKRs in the marketing department to help teams build plans to get them to where they want to go“Google is usually held up as the poster boy/girl/non-binary person for OKRs, because in the in the Bible of the OKR industry is what's called ‘measure what matters.' John Doerr introduced OKRs to Google. OKRs have this deep history going all the way back to Andy Grove at Intel, based on Peter Drucker. By my calculation, OKRs will be embedded in every successful organization in some form or format by the end of this decade. They are that game-changing capability-wise from a strategy execution perspective.” And changing up the game is exactly what Epstein is best at. In this show we'll get into some of the lessons Epstein learned during his time at Microsoft and Sprinkler, discuss some best practices for managing a remote workforce and unpack some key principles of great leadership in marketing. Don't worry, we've already invited him back on the show. I can't wait for you to enjoy this episode about the simplified and data-driven marketing methods of marketing guru, Jeremy Epstein.Main Takeaways:Evolving Leadership Process: A great leader is one who can take feedback and alter course to stay on the best track for the business. Becoming a leader will demand a new skill set and an ability to look at the bigger picture. Thinking about the work and the mission with a broader perspective will help you keep everyone moving in the right direction. The Role of OKRs in Business: Companies in the future will all use OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) to measure the success of their marketing campaigns. This method of precisely defining the goals and providing clear data is maximally effective. Setting forth a simple and easy-to-understand plan to accomplish a difficult mission is the first step to succeeding, and that's what an OKR does. Future of Blockchain in Marketing: The Apple cut-down on cookie use is just the beginning of the end of marketing with PII or Personally Identifiable Information. When more and more people get on and start using and trading in new markets, and for different purposes, you're going to need to find a way to reach the right people. ‘No more cookies,' is the way of the future. Document Processes: If any aspect of your business hinges upon one link in the chain, your whole business is at risk. Every role should be so well documented and laid that a new hire could come off the street with no prior knowledge of your business and be able to understand the job. Also, when you have everything written, there is a source of truth. Things get said in meetings and promptly forgotten. Documenting what was said in a meeting and immediately sharing that with the attendees can help move action items forward and create productive meetings. Key Quotes:“I got some really, candid feedback along the way from that my style for a lot of people was not working. It was too micromanage(y). It was too overbearing and people didn't like it. The best player doesn't always become your best coach. I needed to make that shift from player to coach. And I had to think about the game if you will, in a very different light. It's still a learning journey. And fortunately, I've had some great teachers along the way and most importantly, I tried to create an environment where my team feels safe and comfortable to tell me what a total screw-up I am on a regular basis.” “Marketing is all about differentiation. hat's the core, the single best book I've ever read about marketing is called ‘Different: Escaping the Competitive Herd Book by Youngme Moon'. It's about being different. My CEO at Gtmhub said it to me best when I came into the role he said, ‘You have to have infinite patience with people.' If you get 1% better every day, by the end of the year, you're going to be 97xs better.”“It's not about me being ‘the chief'. I almost reject that name. I'm the marketing enabler. I'm just trying to support everyone and make everyone better. I've asked almost everybody on my team, ‘what's your long-term career goal?' And I view it as my responsibility to help them get further.”“Google is usually is held up as the poster boy/girl/non-binary person for OKRs because in the Bible of the OKR industry is what's called measure what matters. John Doerr introduced OKRs to Google. OKRs have this deep history going all the way back to Andy Grove at Intel, based foundationally on Peter Drucker. So, yes, I have skin in the game but by my calculation, OKRs will be embedded in every successful organization in some form or format by the end of this decade, or else, those companies may not even be around. They are that game-changing capability-wise from a strategy execution perspective.” “I'm a maniac about documentation of processes on our confluence. I call it, ‘what if you get hit by a bus document.' If you get hit by a bus, Yes, I'll be sad but the business needs to continue. Someone else off the street [should be able to] come in and read your document [and] know how to do this person's role.” “In a web 3.0 world, you know nothing about your customer, aside from what their blockchain address is, what their wallet contents hold, and their transactions. There is no such thing as PII (Personally Identifiable Information.) This world already exists and you have to market to this world where that's all you know about the person. [This is] where we're going to end up anyway.”“How does the function and discipline and strategy around marketing evolve because of the arrival of this disruptive technology? There'll be expectations that customers co-create and co-own the brand with you. Why don't they have a stake in it when you have Bitcoin, you own one 21 millionth of the network. So why not own a part of the brand? And you could decentralize that and you can decent and you can co-create assets and, and not just give them a $2,000 award, but give them provable cocaine that represents 1% ownership in, you know, diet, Coke, vanilla cream, cherry pie, whatever kind of thing.”Bio:Jeremy Epstein is the CMO of Gtmhub. He has six years of corporate experience at Microsoft and has experienced high-growth marketing during his time as VP of Marketing at Sprinklr as they grew from a $20mm Series A valuation to a $1.8 billion level over 4 years. He has worked with top minds in blockchain, crypto-economics, smart contracts, and decentralization as an advisor to Open Bazaar, Zcash, DAOstack, SingularityNet, & Dapper Labs. "DAO to Earth” is an inquiry based project that seeks to further understand the experience of participating in a DAO, and how this new framework for organizing relates to the world we’re currently living in. It was funded by the Genesis DAO through Alchemy (DAOstack’s first DAO interface), and it is comprised of 9 interviews with Genesis members. It is hoped that this series will function as a DAO-knowledge library for current builders and future explorers of the dawn of DAOs. --- “If we don’t all break our minds free, this experiment will be like any other one.” In this episode of the series, we received Grace Rachmany, whose previous experiences in the field are difficult to summarize: Coauthor of the first leadership handbook specifically for the crypto industry: So You've Got a DAO. Participant in dGov Forum, Genesis DAO (DAOstack). Founder DAOleadership.com, which provides governance consulting for DAOs as well as Leadership Training for DAOs. Founder of IwriteICOwhitepapers.com, which produced more than 100 whitepapers for ICOs and STOs. 30 years in technology industries as a writer, manager, and entrepreneur. Founder / CEO of 3 profitable service businesses in the tech space. As one can imagine, the conversation with Grace was one of a kind. She gave us the good, the bad, and the ugly of decentralization, with no fear of speaking her truth. For example, one of the key points we touched on was: Who has created the rules of the value games we play nowadays? And why is crypto, which has the potential to change said rules, often being leveraged to enforce the same old dynamics we already know are fragile? We also talked about our experiences with collaborative dynamics that worked well precisely because there was no incentive other than empathy, and whether or not those can be catalyzed by the emerging technologies of blockchain. And, of course, we dived into projects in the space, such as Holochain and DAOstack. A treat to any DAO enthusiast. This interview was recorded on October 22nd, 2019. So please take that into consideration when listening to it.

“If you think about it, every DAO can be its own bank. Every DAO can behave as a community credit union, or as an insurance collective of some sort.” The second episode of the “DAO to Earth” series is on! This time, we receive Patrick Rawson, DAOstack’s Communications Director, for a chat about the historical development of DAOstack’s first DAO, and what is coming next with Genesis 1.0. We also took a trip down memory lane, remembering some moments we shared during DAOstack’s early days and, even before that, how Pat ended up in the crypto world. But the juiciest part of this conversation came when Pat shared with us some of the new things coming up within Genesis. The DAO will now accommodate for different types of organizations (and peers), such as: Maker Orgs (blockchain orgs in the ethereum ecosystem. Ex: DAOstack) Funds (purchasing locked GEN from genesis 1.0 to generate reputation for themselves) Community building orgs Dev/Builders. Ex: dOrg) Traditional orgs (governments, nonprofits, corps) Collectives It will also hold a locked GEN tokens fund, which organizations will be able to support in exchange for voting rights within Genesis 1.0. And watch out for another big DAO launch in the ecosystem - a decentralized exchange bringing $2.5 Mi to fund a DAO. That and more in this episode! *This interview was recorded on September 25th, 2019. So please take that into consideration when listening to it.*

> “I don’t know what the DAO is because I don’t see it yet, but my hope is that it will be something that helps us to find the answers here and now, instead of thinking that we will find it elsewhere.” In what is perhaps the craziest and most creative episode of DAOcast, we received the artist and aspiring "DAOpsychic for Imagination Support" Jossbot, which has also become a partner of DAOcast, creator of the imagery used by the show through [KATTFANTASTISKT](http://kattfantastiskt.world/). As a DAOstack pollinator and avid creator, Jossbot shared her takes on the Genesis experiment, exploring with us how the DAO dynamics could evolve as this concept matures and accommodates for different kinds of users. Incorporating the power of Abstraction in our conversation, we managed to explore varied imaginary territories that could aid in the understanding and development of the field, giving life to neologisms and unusual ways to think about DAOs. That, on itself, is enough to give this episode a listen, but if such an exercise doesn't suffice, you might be intrigued to learn what a "DAO as a shinny, 80’s looking like sphere" is. “When you look at the Bitcoin's blockchain network, you'll see that with some very strict rules, not really complicated, we were able to bootstrap the most secure digital network nowadays. Or at least the most expensive one to attack. And with DAOs we are aiming at transcribing that into the governance level.” A self-proclaimed digital nomad and citizen scientist conducting research and development with digital infrastructure for the public good. Not only for the cyber space, but also for public health and food sovereignty. This is Pedro Parrachia, one of the most engaged DAOstack pollinators. In our talk, we cover a lot of ground. From how the cyber space nowadays can be understood as a feudal arena, where the value of our data is hoarded to powerful lords, to how DAOs could help us change that, to how blockchain might fail in being a tool in that mission. Pedro also gave us his thoughts on his experience with Alchemy, contextualizing it within the broader context of access barriers to digital infrastructures. In sum, a lot of good information. If you want to reach out to Pedro to talk about the amazing things he's doing, do so at pedro@rhizom.me.

On this episode of Emerge I’m speaking with Jake Vartanian. Jake is the founder of Native, a platform for communities to create their own economic architecture using cryptocurrency. This is a project, like DAOStack, Holochain, or Colony, that is exploring the transition into an anti-rivalrous future that Jordan Greenhal and I spoke about in the last episode of Emerge. I recommend listening to that conversation first, as it will help you understand the significance of what Native is offering. And, unlike many other projects in this space Native is now live, and you can play with it yourself at http://nativeproject.one --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/emerge/support

If only the blockchain had a way to make decentralized collaboration of contracts as easy as a Wordpress plugin. If only there was a way for fantasy sports enthusiasts to have their own token which would be fully liquid. If only there was a way to sweep those failed crypto tokens into coins which would have value. Well if ifs and buts were candy and nuts we’d all be crypto millionaires. But today you’ll meet entrepreneurs seeking to make all these concepts a reality on the blockchain. Whatever else you are doing right now, it can wait. Unless you are a doctor in the middle of open heart surgery. If that’s the case, just listen in your earbuds as you work.
