Let's go to the moon!' ...is a great and lofty goal, but it doesn't mean much if you or I say it. Why? Because, just guessing, you don't have an actual plan for how to do that, or the means, for that matter. Point is, you need an actual plan, with real numbers and defined goals, and set time frames in order to achieve your goals. My guest this week, the CMO of GTMhub, Jeremy Epstein gets this and is passionate about the usefulness and importance of OKRs in the marketing department to help teams build plans to get them to where they want to go“Google is usually held up as the poster boy/girl/non-binary person for OKRs, because in the in the Bible of the OKR industry is what's called ‘measure what matters.' John Doerr introduced OKRs to Google. OKRs have this deep history going all the way back to Andy Grove at Intel, based on Peter Drucker. By my calculation, OKRs will be embedded in every successful organization in some form or format by the end of this decade. They are that game-changing capability-wise from a strategy execution perspective.” And changing up the game is exactly what Epstein is best at. In this show we'll get into some of the lessons Epstein learned during his time at Microsoft and Sprinkler, discuss some best practices for managing a remote workforce and unpack some key principles of great leadership in marketing. Don't worry, we've already invited him back on the show. I can't wait for you to enjoy this episode about the simplified and data-driven marketing methods of marketing guru, Jeremy Epstein.Main Takeaways:Evolving Leadership Process: A great leader is one who can take feedback and alter course to stay on the best track for the business. Becoming a leader will demand a new skill set and an ability to look at the bigger picture. Thinking about the work and the mission with a broader perspective will help you keep everyone moving in the right direction. The Role of OKRs in Business: Companies in the future will all use OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) to measure the success of their marketing campaigns. This method of precisely defining the goals and providing clear data is maximally effective. Setting forth a simple and easy-to-understand plan to accomplish a difficult mission is the first step to succeeding, and that's what an OKR does. Future of Blockchain in Marketing: The Apple cut-down on cookie use is just the beginning of the end of marketing with PII or Personally Identifiable Information. When more and more people get on and start using and trading in new markets, and for different purposes, you're going to need to find a way to reach the right people. ‘No more cookies,' is the way of the future. Document Processes: If any aspect of your business hinges upon one link in the chain, your whole business is at risk. Every role should be so well documented and laid that a new hire could come off the street with no prior knowledge of your business and be able to understand the job. Also, when you have everything written, there is a source of truth. Things get said in meetings and promptly forgotten. Documenting what was said in a meeting and immediately sharing that with the attendees can help move action items forward and create productive meetings. Key Quotes:“I got some really, candid feedback along the way from that my style for a lot of people was not working. It was too micromanage(y). It was too overbearing and people didn't like it. The best player doesn't always become your best coach. I needed to make that shift from player to coach. And I had to think about the game if you will, in a very different light. It's still a learning journey. And fortunately, I've had some great teachers along the way and most importantly, I tried to create an environment where my team feels safe and comfortable to tell me what a total screw-up I am on a regular basis.” “Marketing is all about differentiation. hat's the core, the single best book I've ever read about marketing is called ‘Different: Escaping the Competitive Herd Book by Youngme Moon'. It's about being different. My CEO at Gtmhub said it to me best when I came into the role he said, ‘You have to have infinite patience with people.' If you get 1% better every day, by the end of the year, you're going to be 97xs better.”“It's not about me being ‘the chief'. I almost reject that name. I'm the marketing enabler. I'm just trying to support everyone and make everyone better. I've asked almost everybody on my team, ‘what's your long-term career goal?' And I view it as my responsibility to help them get further.”“Google is usually is held up as the poster boy/girl/non-binary person for OKRs because in the Bible of the OKR industry is what's called measure what matters. John Doerr introduced OKRs to Google. OKRs have this deep history going all the way back to Andy Grove at Intel, based foundationally on Peter Drucker. So, yes, I have skin in the game but by my calculation, OKRs will be embedded in every successful organization in some form or format by the end of this decade, or else, those companies may not even be around. They are that game-changing capability-wise from a strategy execution perspective.” “I'm a maniac about documentation of processes on our confluence. I call it, ‘what if you get hit by a bus document.' If you get hit by a bus, Yes, I'll be sad but the business needs to continue. Someone else off the street [should be able to] come in and read your document [and] know how to do this person's role.” “In a web 3.0 world, you know nothing about your customer, aside from what their blockchain address is, what their wallet contents hold, and their transactions. There is no such thing as PII (Personally Identifiable Information.) This world already exists and you have to market to this world where that's all you know about the person. [This is] where we're going to end up anyway.”“How does the function and discipline and strategy around marketing evolve because of the arrival of this disruptive technology? There'll be expectations that customers co-create and co-own the brand with you. Why don't they have a stake in it when you have Bitcoin, you own one 21 millionth of the network. So why not own a part of the brand? And you could decentralize that and you can decent and you can co-create assets and, and not just give them a $2,000 award, but give them provable cocaine that represents 1% ownership in, you know, diet, Coke, vanilla cream, cherry pie, whatever kind of thing.”Bio:Jeremy Epstein is the CMO of Gtmhub. Chris Pacia joins the podcast to talk all things crypto as per usual, including of course Bitcoin's persistent price pumping, which prompts an in-depth discussion as to the value of the network in the modern age, and how much speculation may or may not play into it. We also go into the recent-ish network issues caused by hashrate fluctuations from China, and any effects they may have rippling down across layer-two solutions like Lightning. We also touch on the SEC case against Ripple, as well as Tether and its purported backing, including the distinction between liquid and backed, along with some fun conspiracy theories. Finally we touch on the current state of OpenBazaar, its value in the modern world, and what its future could hold. Donate - Sponsors Thank you so much for listening! Haven is the new app for Open Bazaar. A decentralized marketplace. Your information doesn't get shared or collected or stored in the cloud. It stays right in your phone, and your transactions are all peer-to-peer. So many people talk about how much they don't like platforms like facebook and amazon taking their data. It's time we supported applications that are protecting our data and our privacy. Check out Haven and set up a store, and let me know the address of your store so that I can post it in my video description!

Epicenter - Learn about Blockchain, Ethereum, Bitcoin and Distributed Technologies
In the early days of Bitcoin, much of the community’s focus was around payment and getting merchants to adopt cryptocurrencies. Although the technology and narratives have evolved, some projects continue to embrace that original vision of peer-to-peer business, where merchants and their customers interact directly, and if they so wish, anonymously. We’re joined by Brian Hoffman and Washington Sanchez of OpenBazaar. Since we last interviewed Brian in 2015, the project has grown to become a mature decentralized marketplace where people come together to buy and sell products and services anonymously with crypto. Its polished interface and reputation system gives users a similar experience to that of using eBay, but without fees or the risk of censorship. Topics covered in this episode: Brian and Washington’s respective backgrounds The origins of OpenBazaar as the Dark Market project The history and evolution of OpenBazaar since their last appearance on episode 67 How OpenBazaar managed to survive all these years and how the vision has evolved over time Who uses the platform and to what ends How it compares to traditional dark markets like The Silk Road OpenBazaar’s position on deplatforming and how it responds to pressure to censor content How OpenBazaar works under the hood as a collection of decentralized technologies The company’s business model and future plans Episode links: OpenBazaar website Dark Market project on GitHub Episode 67 of Epicenter with Brian Hoffman Trust is Risk Brian Hoffman, Twitter Washington Sanchez, Twitter Thank you to our sponsors for their support: Join the most interoperable ecosystem of connected blockchains. The Miami conference had a lot of wonderful participants, but I got a bit more familiar with a project I had heard about for a while. Washington Sanchez gave me some insight into what the difference is between OB1.io and Open Bazaar. Wondering what the evolution of free markets online using cryptocurrency looks like? How does it stack up to the old #SilkRoad? The decentralized nature seems to be the key component that makes this viable, but perhaps you have something you notice after listening that you want to share? Leave a comment below. Have you used Open Bazaar? What about Haven? Thank you to our sponsor www.MetalPay.com (use code tatianashow to earn more rewards on signup). About the Guests: OpenBazaar is an open source project headed up by the company OB1.OpenBazaar is the world’s first and only fully decentralized marketplace, which means it connects people directly and securely to each other via a peer-to-peer network rather than through a centralized website like online marketplace giants Alibaba, Amazon, or eBay. OpenBazaar users can expect the most secure, most private, and most liberating experience of any ecommerce marketplace because it gives users complete control of their data and their business. There’s no big company behind the scenes that can act as a gatekeeper, collect data, or restrict transactions for anyone. And as a natural result of this, users don’t pay any fees to use OpenBazaar, ever, and there are no terms and conditions to sign. Today we look at OpenBazaar, the leading Bitcoin marketplace for goods and services. Can such emerging platforms challenge the likes of Amazon, Ebay and Etsy? Our guest is Brian Hoffman, founder and project lead of OpenBazaar. Brian is backed by leading VC firms Andreessen Horowitz and Union Square Ventures. While working for Department of Defense cyber-security consulting units, which included analyzing crypto-currencies, Brian became intrigued by these emerging forms of programmable monetary exchange. After discovering open source code created at a hackathon for a decentralized Bitcoin marketplace, Brian decided to build-out the code into a fully functional and expanding commerce platform called OpenBazaar. OpenBazaar is receiving a great deal of attention for its potential to disrupt existing centralized marketplaces such as Ebay, Amazon, and Etsy. More at: https://www.MindAndMachine.io
Cryptocurrencies give us a decentralized financial system. OpenBazaar is a decentralized commerce system. A merchant can log onto OpenBazaar and post a listing for an item–for example, a t-shirt that I want to sell for $15. My item listing will spread throughout the OpenBazaar P2P network. A shopper can download the OpenBazaar desktop application and The post OpenBazaar with Brian Hoffman appeared first on Software Engineering Daily.
The LAVA Flow | Libertarian | Anarcho-capitalist | Voluntaryist | Agorist
"Give me a lawyer dog" apparently refers to some strange animal only found in Louisiana that has four legs, wags it's tail, and has a law degree. What's in the News with stories on prostitution, a Catalonia update, my October Contest Winners, a nurse Wubbels update, Trump's Twitter, DUI on a horse, and free-market vs. government. Also, and Ancap App segment with updates on Open Bazaar and Signal. And, a Burning Books segment on Chasing the Scream by Johann Hari. This episode is brought to you by Tom Woods's Liberty Classroom, helping you to become a smarter and more informed libertarian than ever before, for just 24 cents a day. WHAT'S RUSTLING MY JIMMIES In one of the most egregious examples of justice being denied I have ever seen, this one really rustled my jimmies. The courts in Louisiana have shown utter disregard for reason, logic, rationality, and common sense in the case of Warren Demesme, who was 22 at the time of his arrest. Warren was being interrogated by New Orleans police in October 2015 after two young girls claimed he had sexually assaulted them. It was the second time he'd been brought in, and he was getting a little frustrated, court records show. He had repeatedly denied the crime. Finally, Demesme told the detectives: “This is how I feel, if y'all think I did it, I know that I didn't do it so why don't you just give me a lawyer dog 'cause this is not what's up.” Sometime after this, Demesme made admissions to the crime, prosecutors said, and was charged with aggravated rape and indecent behavior with a juvenile. He is being held in the Orleans Parish jail awaiting trial. The punctuation and spelling, arguably critical to Demesme's use of the nickname “dog,” was provided by the Orleans Parish District Attorney's office in a brief, and then adopted by Louisiana Associate Supreme Court Justice Scott J. Crichton. The sentence in question is officially in the brief as "give me my lawyer dog" with no comma between the words lawyer and dog and with the word dog spelled d-o-g. WHAT'S IN THE NEWS In the war on prostitution news, a federal court heard arguments recently challenging California's criminalization of prostitution, in a case that could have implications for sex work laws across the nation. In a Catalan independence update, Spanish officials moved in to arrest the Catalan government's leadership last week. President Carles Puigdemont and a number of members of the cabinet fled to Brussels, Belgium. Spain then issued an international arrest warrant for Puigdemont and a Madrid High Court judge asked Belgium to arrest Puigdemont and four associates after they ignored a court order to return to Spain. In a nurse Wubbels update, as I expected, the taxpayers are the losers in this situation. University Hospital nurse Alex Wubbels has agreed to a $500,000 payment to settle a dispute over her arrest by a Salt Lake City police officer after she barred him from drawing blood from an unconscious patient, her attorney said Tuesday. In national security news, apparently, a rogue employee of Twitter shut down President Trump's account on his last day on the job. The deactivation Thursday sparked deep and troubling questions about who has access to the president's personal account, @realDonaldTrump, and the power that access holds. In it's about your safety news, a 53-year-old woman was arrested and charged with driving drunk while riding a horse down a busy Florida highway -- and yes, you hear that shit that right. In free markets for the win news, Tesla has used its solar panels and batteries to restore reliable electricity at San Juan's Hospital del Niño (Children's Hospital), in what company founder Elon Musk calls "the first of many solar+battery Tesla projects going live in Puerto Rico." And, finally, in some show news, we've created a Facebook group for Pax Libertas Productions for all of you to interact with all of the PLP podcast hosts. I'm in there, of course, as is Brian McQuade from Resist the Empire, and Scott McDonald and Adam Brown from Ancap Barber Shop. ANCAP APPS Two apps that have been featured in this segment in the past have had some significant updates that I want to let you know about. First, OpenBazaar, the free online marketplace with no platform fees and no restrictions has just released their 2.0 version. OpenBazaar is a different way to do online commerce. It's a peer to peer application that doesn't require middlemen, which means no fees & no restrictions. OpenBazaar connects people directly via a peer to peer network. Data is distributed across the network instead of storing it in a central database. Version 2.0 is a completely new network, separate from the earlier version of the OpenBazaar network. They learned a lot from the 1.0 version, and with this information, they've made the new OpenBazaar one of the most user-friendly decentralized applications ever built. They've added lots of highly requested features as well. The other product with an update is one that I use almost daily. The Signal encrypted messaging app now has a full desktop app for Mac, Windows, and Linux. The previously had a Google Chrome app for the product that they'be now replaced with the full desktop version, so if you previously had the Chrome version, you will need to install this new desktop version. BURNING BOOKS I heard about this book, Chasing the Scream: The First and Last Days of the War on Drugs, when the author, Johann Hari, was on episode 86 of Felony Friday with John Odermatt as part of the Lions of Liberty network. A few weeks later, it was on sale on Audible for $4.99, so I picked it up and listened to it.
Open Bazaar is an open-source, peer to peer, online market place that connects buyers and sellers of all types of products to connect with each other, without fees or censorship. There are some major development projects coming out in the next 6-12 months, the biggest being what they call their Developer Playground. In order to maintain the collective resources needed to nurture the Open Bazaar platform and maintain developer collaboration, the Developer Playground will allow developers and contributors to compete in contributor activities, earn badges and rankings, vote for new ideas, create features, and manage their accounts. Open Bazaar is also looking for increased integration with 3rd party applications, and to streamline the process of using GitHub to further develop the platform. Position: Developer Network Lead (OpenBazaar) Email: braden@openbazaar.org For more information, or to get involved, visit www.openbazaar.org.
Most online marketplaces, such as Amazon, Etsy, and Ebay, are operated by large companies. Because of this, these platforms charge sellers fees to advertise their products, collect information about sellers and buyers, and censor the products available to shoppers–Amazon, for example, doesn't sell Google Chromecast, a direct competitor to Amazon's Firestick. Open Bazaar is a decentralized, peer-to-peer online marketplace app, meaning that e-commerce can happen without fees, data collection, or product censorship. Additionally, because product inventory can be re-seeded through multiple users, sales can occur even when the seller is offline. A built-in bitcoin wallet allows for purchases to be paid with cryptocurrency or fiat. To learn more, open up a store, or get involved in their version 2.0 beta testing, visit www.openbazaar.org
The team behind the open-source, bitcoin-powered marketplace OpenBazaar has published the beta version of its forthcoming 2.0 release. Our guest this week, Brian Hoffman, who is also chief executive of OB1 (the startup behind the project), said that one of the goals for the 2.0 release was to make the user experience akin to popular e-commerce platforms like Etsy. Is it a success?

What if a technology existed that allowed anybody in the world to trade with anybody else in the world - whatever they want, whenever they want, and without permission from anybody else. On tonight's episode of “The Crypto Show,” Danny successfully signs on board a gun shop owner to be a Ghost Gunner distributor in the L.A. area. Danny is currently in El Segundo, California, near LAX, waiting to take the next leg of his trip to the bay area. Fred Constantinesco sits in with us to discuss various topics with us, including trends he's witnessed at the Dallas Bitcoin meetup he hosts. Brian Hoffman from Open Bazaar joins us to play a rap parody video of the Bitcoin debate between Roger Ver of Bitcoin Unlimited and John Dilley of Blockstream, a debate that Danny and I M.C.ed while at the Anarchapulco Conference back in February, and tells us about his experience at the Consensys conference in New York. We also discuss with him the future of Bitcoin and the resolution of the block-size issue, the proliferation of ICO's, and a recent development with Open Bazaar.
Topics Include: --"Silk Road, DPR, and Ross Ulbricht" --"The Nature of Bitcoin" --"Can Anarchy Work?" --"Revolutionary Visions" About the Guest: - Amir Taaki created the first full reimplementation of the bitcoin protocol named libbitcoin, worked on the bitcoin client Electrum and created other command line utilities around bitcoin and the network. The bitcoin standardization procedure (Bitcoin Improvement Proposals or BIPs) was started by Taaki. In 2014, together with Cody Wilson, he launched the Dark Wallet project after a crowdfunding run on IndieGoGo which raised over $50,000. Taaki, along with other developers created a prototype for a decentralized marketplace called "DarkMarket" in 2014, at a hackathon in Toronto,[28] which was forked into the OpenBazaar project. In 2015, Taaki went to Rojava (Syrian Kurdistan) to offer his tech skills, but was conscripted into the YPG military. He had no training, but spent three and a half months in the YPG military. He was then discharged and helped design the education curriculum in Rojava. - Lyn Ulbricht is the mother of Ross Ulbricht, the creator of the Silk Road website. Deeply involved with her son’s defense, Lyn has worked to bring awareness to the case through http://www.freeross.org, media interviews, public appearances and other efforts. MP3, Poll, Links, and More: http://ymb.tc/e168This is episode 168 of You, Me, and BTC – your liberty and Bitcoin podcast! This week we have two main topics lined up: Heleum and Amir Taaki. To kick things off, we have a fantastic guest with us, Pace Ellsworth, the creator of Heleum. The upcoming service will automatically and algorithmically trade your money between several world currencies and cryptocurrencies. Rather than trying to game a single exchange pair (like BTC/USD), the program regularly checks numerous currencies for gains and moves into the best one.Can this really work? How much money could it make? Why do we need something like this? How can we get involved? Pace will have all the answers tonight. And remember you can ask your own questions in the chat while we’re live! Then later in the show, we’ll cover anarchist Bitcoiner Amir Taaki’s recent run-in with ISIS. He used to work on anonymous, anarcho-capitalist projects like DarkWallet and OpenBazaar, but he was more or less lost for the past two years. Some people even thought he was dead. Then we learned that he had been working and fighting with rebels in Syria to build a free world from the ground up. He went there hoping to employ his tech skills but ended up fighting on the front lines a bit too. We’ll share more details and comment on Amir’s (possibly questionable) endeavors.Tune in tonight for all the fun and check the list below for some of the specific stories we’ll cover!- Heleum FAQ- How an Anarchist Bitcoin Coder Found Himself Fighting ISIS in SyriaYour hosts are Daniel Brown and Tim Baker. The forever-in-the-making OpenBazaar trading platform has been one of 2016's bright spots in the Bitcoin space. After over a quarter of a million downloads (I was one of them) and thousands of new store ideas taking over a decentralized, user-powered digital space, it is time for a second refresh, months in the making. After that we invite an old friend of the podcast on, Tony Sakich, to talk about rep tokens.
Ever since OpenBazaar was released, content creators immediately took a liking to this decentralized marketplace approach. For smaller artists and creators, monetization has always been a struggle. This is particularly true in the music industry, where competition is relentless and far too many middlemen want their cut. Myco, a group that can also be found on Bandcamp, has posted their new EP, Vinyl, and CD up for sale on OpenBazaar. They join us this week to talk all about it!
IN THIS EPISODE A few days at the Porcupine Freedom Festival in New Hampshire netted a load of wonderful connections, some very interesting insights and a few very relevant interviews, from the perspective of the technology and choice pair. First up in this episode is Sam Patterson, Chief Operating Officer of OB1, the company developing the Open Bazaar protocol and ecosystem. Sam shares some insights about the ideals of peer-to-peer commerce, shares some very encouraging news about the current real-world successes of the platform, and shares exciting news about the near future, which will make the ecosystem tons better still. Next we spend some quality time with Larken Rose discussing his very ambitious and fabulously important project, The Mirror. This could be one of the most important projects in existence for opening human potential, so listen up and consider pitching in. Finally, we speak with Jeremy Kauffman of LBRY (pronounced "library"). With their imminent launch of the LBRY platform, listeners are in a unique position to get in on the ground floor of what I found to be one of the most exciting practical applications of blockchain technology to come along recently. Content distribution is about to get a really great tool that everyone can use, even the "big guys." Listen for how to get an inside track on the launch for listening to this podcast. MAGIC WORDS Listen for the magic word, and submit it to your LetsTalkBitcoin.com account to claim a share of this week's listener award distribution of LTBcoin. Listeners now have a full week from the release date to submit a magic word. The magic word for this episode must be submitted by 10 am Pacific Time on July 6, 2016. Peter Thiel argued in his book ‘Zero to One’ that the way to build a great and highly profitable company is to build a monopoly. But with decentralized technologies, there is a real question whether these monopolies can be built or whether the monopolies will end up being publicly owned goods (like Bitcoin) that can’t be monetized directly. William Mougayar, who is an experienced tech executive and angel investor, has been writing extensively about these issues and was one of the investors in OB1, the venture-backed company launched by the founders of the decentralized market place Open Bazaar. He joined us for a discussion of the cryptocurrency space, Ethereum, Open Bazaar and monetizing decentralized technologies. Topics covered in this episode: Bitcoin as the new, thin cloud His long-term predictions about where the space is going What kind of business models are the most promising Why he chose to invest in OB1, the company behind Open Bazaar What the state of Venture Capital in the cryptocurrency space is Episode links: Predictions in Cryptography, Blockchains and Consensus Protocols The Old Cloud is Dead, Welcome the New Cloud The Business Imperative Behind the Ethereum Vision An Operational Framework for DAOs Union Square Ventures: Introducing OB1 Peter Thiel: Competition is for Losers This episode is hosted by Brian Fabian Crain and Sébastien Couture. Epicenter - Learn about Blockchain, Ethereum, Bitcoin and Distributed Technologies
What Bitcoin did for money, OpenBazaar is trying to achieve for commerce. Born as a fork of the Dark Market project, OpenBazaar aims to facilitate online trade by removing unneeded middlemen. Built as an open source protocol, users simply install the application on their computer to gain access to marketplaces available on the network. From the app, they may also place items or services for sale by creating “Ricardian contracts”, which get propagated to the network and made accessible to everyone to see. The protocol, which uses Bitcoin as a means of payments, utilises multi-signature transactions. This makes it possible for transacting parties to include third-party arbitrators, who may intervene in the event of a dispute. We talked to Brian Hoffman, the project’s Lead Developer, about this paradigm-shifting project and the potential it has to disrupt person-to-person marketplaces such as eBay. Currently in beta, OpenBazaar is due for a full release in Q1-Q2 of 2015. Topics covered in this episode: History and current status of the project Mechanics of a simple transaction on OpenBazaar Ricardian contracts OpenBazaar’s proposed arbitration model Reputation and the important role it plays in peer-to-peer trading Business models that may be threatened by this technology Episode links: OpenBazaar OpenBazaar Git Repo Ricardian Contracts OpenBazaar Reddit Bitrated This episode is hosted by Brian Fabian Crain and Sébastien Couture.
