On this week's episode of the Friends in Beauty podcast I welcome Jeffery Glenn to the Friends in Beauty guest chair. Jeffery Glenn is a renaissance man, a natural born creative and artist whose work expands across multiple facets of the entertainment and beauty industries. He is a man that is diligent, executes with passion, and performs with integrity at focus. Being from Miami, Fl., he also brings a unique flavor into the room. In 2008, he was accepted into the Department of Theatre Arts with a concentration in musical theatre at the illustrious Howard University. While receiving his training, he met Reggie Ray who served as his professor and mentor. He'd trained in stage makeup with Reggie Ray. The training entailed that of character makeup, enhancement, and what defines beauty. It was then when he realized a love for creating and storytelling through the art of make-up. Once he received a Bachelors of Fine Arts, he jumped into the field working on campaigns with model agencies in the D.C. area. Finding his power in editorial beauty, Jeffery began to leave his mark making an impact with photographers, stylists, models, etc. He soon after started landing spreads in magazines (Elléments, Elegant, PUMP, Selin, Solstice Magazine, Essence) both nationally and internationally. This led him to gain clientele from D.C., New York, and his hometown Miami, Fl. After working on the east coast for 3 years, Jeffery relocated to the Los Angeles area venturing into tv and film. His credits include Rihanna's ANTI World Tour, Regina Hall (Scary Movie, Girls Trip), Rah Digga of Flipmode Squad, Tiffany Haddish, KJ Smith (Tyler Perry's “Sistas”), Charlemagne Tha God, Desus Nice, Kash Doll, Aisha Hinds (9-1-1, True Blood), Chris Spencer, Tammy Townsend (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation), Camille Winbush (The Bernie Mac Show), Elle Varner, Paloma Ford, Miss Nikki Baby (Love & HipHop Hollywood), Olympic gold medalist English Gardner, Wanda Durant, Birgundi Baker (The Chi), Lauren E. In this podcast exclusive, Desus Nice and Daily Show writer Ashton Womack discuss Desus' week as guest host: covering DJ Envy's fraud allegations, the transition from a comedy duo to a solo career, and why it was important to showcase New York culture. He also takes a moment to address the haters. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Desus Nice kicked off his guest host week with headlines about the House speaker race and DJ Envy's potential involvement in a real estate Ponzi scheme. He also hits the streets of NYC to ask "what makes a true New Yorker," and sits down with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Grammy-nominated rapper D Smoke. Here are the best moments from Desus' week as guest host.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Desus Nice chats about the latest news, including Clarence Thomas not reporting a $250,000 forgiven loan on his tax returns and New York having one of the lowest bullying rates in the country, and Ronny Chieng chimes in on the list of worst first dates according to women. Desus then dives into the trend of billionaire franchise owners building stadiums that cost taxpayers lots of money, and for little benefit, in this week's Long Story Short. Also, Grammy-nominated rapper D Smoke stops by to talk about his experience collaborating with his brother SiR on their latest single “Work Hard Play Hard,” how working as a public school teacher informed his new YA novel, and his advice for new artists.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Desus Nice takes on the day's biggest stories, including new House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Georgia restaurant's “Bad Parenting Fee,” and Michael Kosta and Grace Kuhlenschmidt weigh in on Jay-Z's response to the “Lunch with Jay-Z or $500,000" question. Also, you might think you're killing every spotted lanternfly in sight because they're an invasive species, but that's just what THEY want you to believe. Truth-seeker Kevin Matthew Kelp (A.K.A. Michael Kosta) is on a mission to find out the real puppet master behind the spotted lanternfly bugspiracy. And two-time WNBA champion for the Las Vegas Aces, Sydney Colson, discusses the playful sibling-like rivalry between her and her teammates, the increasing visibility of the WNBA, and her unscripted comedy series, “The Syd + TP Show.”See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Desus Nice discusses the latest news, including Tom Emmer joining and quitting the House Speaker race, an off-duty Alaska Airlines pilot trying to crash a plane mid-flight, and DJ Envy's potential involvement in a real estate Ponzi scheme. Lewis Black then gives his honest assessment of the latest reality show craze, "The Golden Bachelor,” before bestselling author Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah shares the inspiration behind his first novel, “Chain-Gang All-Stars,” the reason he chose to have a Black woman protagonist, and his desire to inspire others to be more compassionate about abolishing the prison system.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Desus Nice handles the latest in the news including Taylor Swift's secret handshake with Brittany Mahomes, leaked audio of Sheila Jackson berating staffers, the House Speaker race heating up, and a man faking 20 heart attacks to get out of paying the bill. The die-hard Bronx native then hits the streets of NYC to ask "what makes a true New Yorker?" Is it the hospital you're born in, or is it your go-to bodega order? And Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez stops by to explain the Republican House Speaker mess, the importance of creating an easier path to citizenship for immigrants, and whether she still loves her job.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On this week's episode of The Limits, Jay looks back on his conversation with a recently split, beloved comedy duo. For years, Desus Nice and The Kid Mero lived the lives of many struggling New Yorkers: juggling multiple odd jobs, battling roaches, and just trying to make ends meet in the Bronx. But they also spent plenty of time online, where their constant back and forth on Twitter was so funny that followers demanded they make a podcast. Their eponymous show, Desus and Mero, has since exploded over the last decade from podcasting into television, culminating in a successful four-season Showtime run. Desus and Mero talk about that journey, and the kind of hustle and hard work it takes to make for good podcasting and longevity in show business. Plus, they don't hold back with Jay, getting into it on the NBA, the best rappers in the game...and the virtues of the Filet-O-Fish. This episode first aired in May 2022, before Desus and Mero announced their split. CONTENT WARNING: This episode contains explicit language and material suited for mature audiences. Desus Nice and The Kid Mero—who officially announced this week that they will be “pursuing separate creative endeavors moving forward”—join The Last Laugh podcast to talk about launching their Showtime late-night series Desus & Mero. We get into their close relationship with fellow Bronx-native Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, why they viewed their show as an “escape” from the “dumpster fire that is America,” their unlikely Twitter feud with Taylor Swift fans and a lot more. Their eponymous show, Desus and Mero, has since exploded over the last decade, so much so that it is now coming for the throne of late night on Showtime. And still, even as their fame has catapulted, they've managed to keep the most authentic versions of themselves intact on camera and off. On this week's episode of The Limits with Jay Williams, Desus and Mero talk about that journey, and the kind of hustle and hard work it takes to make for good podcasting and longevity in show business. Plus, they don't hold back with Jay, getting into it on the NBA, the best rappers in the game...and the virtues of the Filet-O-Fish. Desus and Mero airs Thursday nights at 11 PM ET on Showtime. Geri welcomes the Bodega Boys Desus Nice and The Kid Mero to the show to talk about what they do—and don't do—to put together their show; their unique approach interviewing illustrious guests; and why it's so important to be real and stay real with the people you work with… no matter how strong the brand. Desus Nice & The Kid Mero are former Bronx schoolmates who—while building their respective followings as formidable comedians in their own right—reconnected on Twitter and quickly became known for their shared affinity for complaining about their dissatisfaction for their jobs coupled with pointed and funny pop culture commentary. The re-connection of the quick-witted duo led to stints on Complex (DESUS VS. MERO), their current podcast (THE BODEGA BOYS), and a critically acclaimed late-night show on Viceland— all while continuing to amass an enthusiastic following for their smart and comedic off-the-cuff musings on life's greatest topics. They have also contributed their voices to Ezra Koenig's (Vampire Weekend) animated series NEO YOKIO and NEO YOKIO PINK CHRISTMAS. DESUS & MERO is the third talk series co-hosted by the duo. In each episode, Desus, Mero, and a variety of illustrious guests speak about important topics and chat about pop culture, sports, music, politics—among many other things. The Showtime series is the network's first-ever late-night talk show. “Having a TV show gives you carte blanche to say whatever you want about any other TV show,” says The Kid Mero, one half of Viceland's raucous late-night talkfest Desus & Mero . Co-host Desus Nice takes it a step further: “If you don't have a TV show, you shouldn't be allowed to comment on TV shows. This is my new, one percent way of living.
