The wheel of karma forms a significant theme for this show as we hear about the life of a man whose actions in Atlantis led to a 25,000 year cycle of reincarnation. In an astonishing journey from Norway to Atlantis we follow his many unusual experiences including interactions with leprechauns, the ominous hand of the sea, squid demons and much more. Then in our Plus+ extension we cover stories of those who claim to have entered the mystical Shambhala and met with the hidden masters who seemingly only want the best for humanity. Though as we know, nothing is ever what it seems and we look at the construction of a temple in Russia that might have carried a hidden secret involving tantric sex rituals. However, the roots of this folkloric creature are ancient, and the concept of the double and what it represents has been the subject of deep professional curiosity since the 19th century. In this episode, Virgil and his friend Jay give a film review of Jordan Peele's new film Us. This episode focuses and the films central themes and symbolism that tell a much deeper tale that many people have overlooked. This podcast is about viewing films literally and metaphorically, which offers a deeper message by connecting the two. The episode then moves on to a discussion of the significance of film within our culture, our lives, and why viewing film makes for a fun and engaging experience. Films teach us about the world and the people in it, especially us.
The Spectrum of Criminality: Infernal Affairs & The Departed On this week's episode of WatchThis W/RickRamos, Ibrahim & I sit down to discuss and compare Andrew Lau & Alan Mak's 2002 Hong Kong crime thriller Infernal Affairs and it's 2006 American remake The Departed from director Martin Scorsese. With rival casts including Andy Lau Tak-wah, Tony Leung Chiu-wai, Anthony Wong Chau-sang, and Eric Tsang Chi-wai, the Hong Kong film is considered a classic of both the genre and the Hong Kong Film Industry. Martin Scorsese's re-imagining of this film finally brought him the Oscar he had been working nearly 40 years to win. With an all-star cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Vera Farmiga, Mark Wahlberg, Alec Baldwin, and a late era Jack Nicholson, Scorsese's film is an exemplary remake; expanding on the original film and adding nuances that Scorsese has become known for. Ibrahim & I come at it from numerous angles. Our opinions on both films seem to differ wildly from the accepted norm. Film is without a doubt a medium of varied interpretation and these two films do so much to prove that point. Take a listen and let us know if you agree or disagree. Questions, Comments, Compaints, & Suggestions can be directed to gondoramos@yahoo.com. Thank You for your continued love and support.
