This week Nicola and Di chat with the incredibly inspiring changemaker, Taryn Brumfitt. Taryn is an award-winning filmmaker, bestselling author and speaker on a mission to help people redefine the way they think about themselves and to end the global body-hating epidemic. She is best known for founding the Body Image Movement and her inspiring documentaries Embrace and Embrace Kids. Taryn has reached more than 200 million people with her inspiring work and in 2023, her efforts were recognised nationally when she was named Australian of the Year. In this chat we get to talk about how it all started back in 2013, when Taryn posted a non-traditional before and after photo of herself that went viral. Her intention was to show some friends of hers that were struggling with their own body image, that even though she had reached her ‘perfect bikini body' through dieting and bodybuilding, she was actually happier when she let go of that extreme way of treating her body and learnt to embrace her body exactly as it was. What Taryn didn't know at the time was that the photo would go viral, reaching tens and tens of millions of people, leading to worldwide media attention and changing her life forever. We hear about the deeply moving emails and messages that Taryn received from people all over the world sharing their own stories of body hatred and Taryn was determined to help these people and spread the message of self-love and body acceptance far and wide. Taryn has some wonderful tips in this episode for how you can begin to reframe the way you see yourself and start to focus on the way your body feels and what it can do for you, rather than simply your appearance. Taryn also shares what some of the pivotal moments along the way have been like - from winning Australian of the Year, to addressing the National Press Club in Canberra, and getting an invite to a State dinner at The White House with President Biden. This was a wonderful conversation with a brilliant woman who is doing such important work in the world. We loved chatting with Taryn and we hope you enjoy listening to her wisdom as much as we did. Do you believe in reincarnation? Cue the Indigo Girls... "And now you had to bring up reincarnation over a coupla beers the other night..." You know, we're not sure. We've both been exposed to numerous stories that make reincarnation feel very real. To help us ponder the above question, we welcome our guest Corbie Mitlied who really brings to life (pun intended) the idea of reincarnation as an intuitive counselor. She has made her own path, rather than take the one cut out for her by others. The path wasn't easy and consists of t two marriages, which didn't last, a constant search for the "Partner Who Understood", a succession of jobs, and a series of spiritual paths. Then, out of the blue, she got breast cancer...THREE times. Life became a roller coaster with no brakes, asking Corbie to survive divorce, abuse, poverty and life-threatening illness. But through all of this, she learned the value of the "Examined Life", in which she ask herself...what does this mean and what am I meant to learn from this? In today's episode, Corbie teaches us the three important questions to examine our lives and explore our purpose here on this earth. What are we meant to do and learn? How can we meet challenges and always ask the next question and face each new situation with strength, courage and humor. Corbie sees it as her job as an intuitive counselor, inspirational speaker, author, breast cancer survivor to give her clients the tools and courage to deal with any situation. She believes that everything else is free will. So, today Corbie reminds us that we can do what she does! What will YOU do? We want you to follow us in our FB group and leave us a review so we can continue to connect like minded women in midlife together because no one should have to navigate this crazy shit show alone! lol In this episode, Corbie teaches us: Find Karma is 5 things: healing, service, contrast, unbalanced energy and healing of beliefs. The more we know ourselves and our strengths, the more we'll keep when we pass over into our next life. Live the examined life by asking ourselves: what can I learn from this and how can I teach with it ...then consider what is the next thing! Embrace YOU! There's more to go in life and we are more than just a part of our story that took place in our history. Who are you now? You are more than just the contest winner, the divorce, the car accident, the cancer survivor, the miscarriage, Find your sentence of passion...It's not the JOB. Your sentence of passion is the thing that, when you roll up to the pearly gates, hair on fire and fumes in the tank you can say, "I did this!" It's the moments where you were living in your bliss. Ask yourself the 3 most important questions in the world: What am I ____ about? (fill in the blank with your feeling or emotion...angry, sad, confused, frustrated, etc.) Why am I _____ about that? What would happen if I stopped being ____ about that? You can find Corbie at: Website | corbiemitleid.com YouTube Facebook | firethroughspirit Patreon | corbiemitleid Instagram | @corbie_mitleid Medium: https://corbiemitleid.medium.com Do YOU believe in reincarnation? Motherhood is an incredibly beautiful, rewarding, yet challenging journey. It's easy to see how busy moms trying to do it all, can become lost in parenting, careers, and the neverending to-do lists. Inevitably they become lost within themselves. A common feeling as 90% of moms experiences guilt and anxiety. This guilt is exacerbated when moms begin to compare themselves to others. Most moms suffer silently feeling like they are the only ones feeling this way. They feel they are failing, not good enough, overwhelmed, and scared to reach out for help for fear of judgment. Reaching out for help is not a sign of weakness but one of strength and courage. This can be hard and scary to do alone. As Warrior Mamas Raising Leaders they guide moms inward to fully connect with themselves mind, body, and spirit. No longer do women feel guilty, overwhelmed, and confused but are lead towards feeling radiant, resilient, and relaxed. Myriam, Leslie & Kriste with Sweaty Successful Moms have discovered that when you fully connect to yourself, your inner community, you are no longer concerned with the outside world. No longer seeking outside approval or validation. When moms Embrace YOU, they realize everything they need comes from within. Sweaty Successful Moms takes women on a transformational journey along The Meaningful More Program using tools that they have used and continue to use to stay connected to their self, inner community. Listen in on this show if you’d like to find out: How to find the calm in the chaosThe Sweaty Successful Moms Seatbelt methodHow to fully Embrace You and your Inner CommunityWhat it looks like to Raise LeadersHow it feels when you live your truthWhy The Meaningful More Journey is so effective

Topic – 4 Steps to Releasing Fear and Stepping into YOU Stef Iliff – CEO and founder of Powerhouse, Woman Empowerment Coach and Motivational Speaker, Mom, podcaster *Free Events once/month in Utah Q – What was your journey, stepping into YOU? A - You're always fully evolving with self-actualization. Asking myself: Who do I really want to be and why do I want to be that person? - Started 3 years ago, with a mistake - I started asking: Who is my best self, how do I become that best self? - Who do I want to be, how do I show up as that person every day? - Doing Inner Work: Letting go of guilt, shame, inner child work - Learning to stop self sabotaging, learning self love Comment: Gratitude for an opportunity to prioritize and create change, forgiveness Q – Why do you think that so many women in our society have self-love issues? A – Social media, comparison, judging ourselves, ideas of what the world thinks we "should" be doing. We become afraid of loving ourselves because we don't know who we actually are. The idea of not being enough Who are you under the layers of who you think you should be/have to be to make others happy? Mirror work – practice looking into your soul Learning to practice feeling worthy Stef will post some information about mirror work and mirror therapy and how powerful it is for self love Learn to love your body, practice receiving love Once you see this love in yourself, you can let others see you Q – What are you doing as a mother, to show your girls self love? A – Affirmations, morning and at night. Gratitide – Love for the world will create self love Believe that you can do it – example with Stef's daughter opening up a door. Believe in yourself, so others will believe in you too Giving a foundation at a young age, helping children know that they can acheive whatever they believe Teaching her daughters not to judge each other and compare. Practice: When you start judging people, go up close and get to know them. Practice complimenting Don't assume, go ask. Example of talking to the woman at the gym about being healthy for her kids Show love instead of comparison When you show love + light, you start to become open to receiving love Comment: If we're judging, it can often be because we don't feel worthy in some area of our own lives. Asking: "Why am I thinking this way right now?" Take action to change that thought. Q – Why do you think so many of us live in fear? What aspect of fear are we consumed by on a daily basis? A – Media. Eg. Not watching TV, being conscious of what we're consuming Gossip, judgement, comparisson, the idea of "You have to look like this to be worthy" Let your SOUL shine instead We're afraid to just BE and live by our own design Afraid of not being enough* Comment: Realizing that nothing will make you happy until you find happiness within. Then, you can see the world with love, because you found it within yourself. Elevate your vibration and access what is available from that place. Q – What does it look like to "Embrace YOU"? A – Finding out who you really are, getting to know yourself. Knowing what you really like, not what the world wants you to do Practice a guided meditation to see the best version of yourself Ask: Who do you want to be? In order to get to who you want to be, what did you have to let go of? Where did old stories come from? How can you forgive, find the lesson, change the story? Power of thought, power of choice Life is a gift that happened for you, not to you If you want a new ending, you have to change the story. Decide: I'm not going to live that way anymore. What do you want to have happen? Believe in yourself that you can do it, take intense action. Comment: Empowerment: Letting people realize that they have a choice Q – How often do you see people are confined by old beliefs? How do you practice releasing these beliefs? A – We go through a process of understanding what their limiting beliefs are. Journal exercise Discover what their real fear is. What is the biggest fear that holds you back? Contiue to ask and objective: WHY? Comes down to "I'm not enough" – Brings in awareness Create self discipline to practice believing in yourself and creating wins Understand limiting beliefs and learn how to shut that voice off Bring awareness to how you self sabotage, so you can catch yourself and get out of it 4 STEPS TO RELEASING FEAR AND STEPPING INTO YOU: Ask: Who do you really want to be, why do you want to be that person? Ask: What do you have to leave behind to step into that person? Learning how to change the story – What are the limiting beliefs? Create self discipline, believe in yourself, change limiting beliefs. What is the cost if you don't do the work, and move past the fear? Go – Take Action If you don't take action to love and believe in yourself, you're holding other people back as well. Find your own alignment, empower others to do the same Continue to work on, strengthen the muscle of believing in yourself, let go of fear. Truly become yourself and realize that fear doesn't define you anymore Keep asking why, you can figure everything out, if you trust yourself FEAR – false evidence appearing real Ask yourself: “What if it went right? Even if I fail, what do I get to learn/what is the gift?” Change perspective from: "This is scary" to "I get to do this" Q – What is one thing that people can start implementing right now? A – Everyday ask yourself : Who do I want to be, and why? The second fear shows up : Take action What is the word of intent for today? Embracing Your Body and Your Life: An Interview with Taryn Brumfitt Before and After Following the explosive success of Embrace, The Documentary, Annie, Jen and Lauren interviewed Taryn Brumfitt on Balance365 Life Radio. Taryn shared with JAL her journey from photographer to prominent body positive advocate after a photograph that went viral amplified the innermost frustrations of women about how bodies are portrayed in the media. She went on to crowdfund and produce Embrace, The Documentary and is actively working to fund the companion version of the documentary for kids. More than just a feel-good movie, Embrace is making a real difference in the lives of the women who watch it. DID YOU KNOW? Women who have seen Embrace have much higher body appreciation and lower levels of body shame, self-objectification and dieting. They’re also less likely to treat their body as an object to believe that they should be thin or to be ashamed of their bodies Vehicles Not Ornaments Part of what comes from not being ashamed of one’s body is being able to use it in a variety of different ways that might have seemed unreachable before. For example, Taryn recently completed a marathon, shaving an hour off her last time. She is an advocate for joyful movement and moving in a way that your body needs regardless of what it looks like. Exercise can be so helpful for reducing stress, bringing calm or building inner resolve to overcome hard things. “I've decided that I'm only going to get fitter and faster as I get older. That's my new challenge,” Taryn explains. DOES BODY POSITIVITY PROMOTE OBESITY? This is something Taryn gets asked all the time and she says, "No, thank you for asking me because I love to deliver the answer. And that is we can't look after something that you don't love." More Lightbulb Moments of Self-Love When Taryn’s photograph went viral, she was inundated with thousands of emails. These weren’t all necessarily positive; women were expressing their pain about hating their bodies. The need for a cultural shift became clear. Taryn had some tips on how we can contribute to a more body positive culture. Re-frame toxic body talk when you hear it. For example, Taryn recommends, “when we hear our friends having a conversation about losing weight because they're going on a holiday and they want to look good in their bikini, we need to say, ‘Hey, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop. Let's think about the fact that you're going on a holiday with your family or with your girlfriends and just go and experience that joy.’" Share Embrace The Documentary with a friend and check out Embrace You, the 4-week course that Taryn offers. Read her book, Embrace Yourself. Re-frame the conversations with our kids. “If your daughter comes to you and says, ‘Mommy, do I look pretty in this dress?’ you need to turn around and say, ‘Oh, I just want to know what are you going to do in that dress?’” Taryn suggests. Increase media literacy. Make sure your kids understand how companies market and what their motivations are. She suggests Celeste Barber as the antidote for toxic body messaging. Model positive body image behavior for our kids. Taryn explains, “We are Kings and Queens to our kids and they are getting all of their information from us. Yes, from other places too. But the majority from us, they're sponges. They're looking at us.” A Perspective Shift “It was not my soul's purpose to spend my life hating and being at war with myself...I refuse to talk about my cellulite or my wobbly tummy or my jiggly arms when there are children and men dying every three seconds from not having food.” Taryn has issued a call to action to focus on gratitude and to put self-hatred in perspective by recognizing where there is privilege. She challenges women to consider what will be important to women at the end of their lives and to focus on those things. She explained how self-love might not feel like an achievable goal, but even neutrality is better than self-hatred and striving for neutrality is valid. More than just focussing on gratitude, Taryn calls for women to enjoy the freedom that comes from accepting your body. “This is the joy of embracing your body. It's so powerful. It's not just about the body, it's about your life. Like it transcends everything. You're more confident, you're more loving, you have deeper connections with people. You don't buy into the rules. And when you don't buy into the rules, that's when you have this real, delicious is the only way I can describe it, sense of freedom and joy and magic in your life.” The Balance365 team is so excited about the upcoming Embrace documentary geared to kids that they are donating 10% of the next week’s sales to help make this movie happen.
