Today we're bringing you an episode of Smart Girl Dumb Questions, the new podcast by one of our frequent guest moderators, Nayeema Raza. Nayeema asks the questions we're all thinking to big thinkers in this new show. It is brimming with curiosity, open-mindedness and a willingness to learn – values we hold dear at Open to Debate. As fertility rates plummet, and Millenials and Gen Z increasingly cite climate change and the state of the world as reasons they're not having children, Nayeema asks: is the future really too bleak to have babies? Her guest is journalist Cleo Abram, a YouTuber who has amassed over 5 million subscribers as she tells optimistic tech stories. Nayeema and Cleo break down quantum, the rise of robots and how technology shifts from IVF to artificial wombs will change not just if, but how, we have babies. Also on the agenda: the media's bias – not toward left or right, but toward negativity and the opportunity for more curious, independent and fact-based journalism. If you like this episode, you'll enjoy Nayeema's episode with Mark Cuban about capitalism, Neil deGrasse Tyson about physics, and two members of Gen Alpha about screen time. Lisa Guerrera and Emmy Ketcham, co-founders of Experiment, met in 2019 at an event for the Sephora Accelerate program, which Guerrera participated in with her first business. Together, they soft-launched their skin-care brand in 2020 with a lime-green silicone sheet mask. Since then, the brand has grown to include products including a glycerin-based hydrating serum, a “micro-slugging” oil gel and a lip balm. Its first cleanser will launch in a few weeks. In April, Experiment announced a $3.3 million seed round, led by Greycroft. On this week's episode of the Glossy Beauty Podcast, the duo discusses how they launched the company with $8,500, why theirs is a brand for the “nerdy, smart girl" and why science ultimately beat out "clean" beauty.

"I switched careers and it had nothing to do with wanting to do something new. It was one of those seasons of life where life will sit you down to build you up." Kailani began her career in the fashion industry as a Wardrobe Stylist working with a range of celebrities, TV and Film as well as magazine publications. This was her first experience of “manifesting her dreams, co-creating with God and creating her own heaven on earth.” But then, a “situationship” with a boy turned her life upside down –– in the best way! With an intention to get her revenge body and make him jealous, she instead, found herself. She discovered a whole new world of wellness; mental wellness, emotional wellness and spiritual wellness. The question she was faced with was “why am I just learning all of this and how can I get this to more women?” And that was the beginning of everything. Gilmore Girls' Rory is a beloved Smart Girl icon, and was the kind of girl so many of the girls watching at home wanted to be when the show began airing. But, given that Gilmore Girls follows Rory as she evolves through young adulthood, it's not surprising that she had to learn the hard way that some of her outlook on life was totally wrong along the way. That doesn't make her a bad person – messing up is a big part of growing up – but it does give us an interesting opportunity to take a look back and analyze what specifically about her personality and choices caused those issues, and how they affected her story (for better and worse.) So, let's take a deeper look at some of the things even super smart Rory got wrong about life, love, and becoming your own person – and how they ended up being important lessons for Rory and viewers.

Gilmore Girls' Paris Geller is many things: hyper-intelligent, laser focused, extremely intense… but she became a beloved character because as the show went on we got to peel back the layers and see Paris as less of a looming threat and more as a real person. While things always seemed to turn out great for Rory Gilmore no matter what (at least for a while), Paris was hit with some big setbacks that caused her to have to rethink her life plan. Join us in taking a deeper look at what made Paris' story so interesting and how she became such an iconic character (and why she deserved all of the praise Rory got for being The Smart Girl.)
Focused, smart, funny, and wise are just a few words to describe Tatiana and Alex. Our girls have been friends since high school. In this episode, they share insight into their high school career and the lessons they learned to stay smart girls. Both girls had the privilege to attend private Christian education, which developed their character and faith. The decision to develop "who they are" was part of their journey. Both girls admit and admire the foundation that they were given in school and believe that it made all the difference to have home values that resemble those that they were taught in school. Now college and graduate students, the girls continue to move through this life with thoughtfulness and a friendship that they both can depend on. This was a fun episode to circle back to the perspective that we parents hope is being instilled in the leaders of tomorrow—our girls! Hey there! As the season of swimsuits and shorts, summer can bring up all kinds of feelings about our bodies. Women can feel afraid (or even ashamed) to talk about it. Today, we're going there, and I've brought in a good friend for this special Smart Girl Summer episode to help us! Alisa Keeton is the founder of Revelation Wellness, and she is on a mission to help women love God, get healthy, be whole, and love others. Alisa is also an author, and her new book, The Body Revelation: Physical and Spiritual Practices to Metabolize Pain, Banish Shame, and Connect to God with Your Whole Self, is a tool to help women do just that. Listen in our conversation as Alisa and I discuss: Why we are prone to extremes when it comes to our bodies How getting healthy and being whole impacts how we love God and others The point in a new venture when most women quit (and why they shouldn't give up!) How trauma affects our physical bodies, and why downplaying it is so detrimental The prayer you should pray if you're not sure if your idea is your own or from the Lord Favorite quotes: “Your body has been designed by God. There is nothing about you that genetically is flawed. He is on purpose with a purpose. Every body is a good body.” “Love God. Get healthy, be whole. Love others.” “I don't think you need to be polite with Jesus. You have to be real with him and never let go.” “Before you had words for life to explain and have a worldview, your body was trying to tell you things and it has always been trying to tell you stuff.” “Before you go ask your friends or all the people you think you need their approval, sit down with the Lord. Take a day, pull away, go away, turn your phone off, and get in the Word and hear from Him. Once you have heard from Him, there's no turning back.” “You know it is the Lord if you don't stop thinking about it. It keeps coming up.” Links to great things we discussed: Alisa Keeton Website Alisa Keeton Instagram Alisa Keeton Facebook Alisa Keeton Twitter Revelation Wellness The Body Revelation: Physical and Spiritual Practices to Metabolize Pain, Banish Shame, and Connect to God with Your Whole Self Fanny Pack Hydrafacial Air Lost What Would I Do Without You - Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors Perky-Pet Hummingbird Feeders Order your copy of Remaining You While Raising Them here. Today we start by discussing the American Girl company turning its back on girls. Recently, American Girl started selling a book called "A Smart Girl's Guide: Body Image" that actively encourages young girls who feel uncomfortable with their bodies to pursue gender transition. Not only does the book explicitly talk about puberty blockers for kids, it also has advice for how kids can deal with this with no input from their parents at all. It seems like American Girl went from telling young girls that being a girl is a good thing to telling them to simply stop being a girl if they don't like it. Then, we welcome our friend James Lindsay, author of "The Marxification of Education: Paulo Freire's Critical Marxism and the Theft of Education," back to the show to discuss several things, including James' recent return to Twitter, the drama surrounding an old photo of him, and why leftists can't stand to be ignored. We also talk about the leftist "religion" in general, how leftists believe they can build a paradise on Earth if only we install the right government, and how the Left is manipulating language right now to push that goal along. This also explains why Christianity is such a thorn in the side of these people, because the truths handed down in the Bible are impervious to the Left's attempts at manipulation and control, thus undermining leftists' ability to control people. --- Timecodes: (01:06) American Girl book (18:45) Interview with James Lindsay begins --- Today's Sponsors: Good Ranchers — change the way you shop for meat today by visiting GoodRanchers.com/ALLIE and use promo code 'ALLIE' for a discount!
