Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. US bureau chief Jacob Magid joins host Jessica Steinberg for today's episode. During the White House visit of Saudi Arabia's Prince Mohammed bin Salman, known as MBS, US President Donald Trump elevates the status of Saudi Arabia in the eyes of the US, says Magid, along with several defense guarantees and sales of weapons. Israel hoped those gestures would be conditioned upon the Saudis normalizing conditions with the Jewish state, but went along with the announcement, discusses Magid. The recent UN Security Council vote gives the Board of Peace the mandate to redevelop Gaza over the next two years, says Magid, as well as a vague pathway toward a Palestinian state after that period. A resolution to establish the International Stabilization Force and the agreement on the demilitarization of Gaza were included in the vote, although it will be a tougher sell to get countries to contribute armed forces, discusses Magid, who calls the vote an internationalization of the conflict and a victory for the Trump administration. Fadwa Barghouti, the wife of prominent Palestinian prisoner Marwan Barghouti speaks with Magid for her first Israeli media interview, as part of her push for her husband's release. Barghouti tells Magid now could be the time for his release, as it could be an opportunity to work toward peace. Check out The Times of Israel's ongoing liveblog for more updates. How does a three-person L&D team support 23,000 associates across seven states? In this episode, Chris Chappell, Director of Learning & Development at Weis Markets, shares how servant leadership, clear career paths, and just-in-time video microlearning are elevating the employee experience—and the customer experience—across retail, manufacturing, and logistics. Show Notes:Weis Market's Chris Chappell offers many key takeaways to empower team members to succeed. His top points include: Lead as a servant, not a boss. Chris Chappell centers L&D on servant leadership—meeting associates' needs, anchoring to mission, and role-modeling behaviors so people trust and follow. Career paths + strong leadership = retention. Provide clear growth paths and accountable leaders. Weis Markets' leadership development now spans five levels and correlates with higher engagement and reduced turnover that is 20–25 points lower than retail averages. Make learning “in the moment.” Snapshot video microlearning—accessed via QR codes embedded in SOPs—powers fast cross-training (e.g., moving a bakery associate to deli) and reduces friction during call-offs. Do fewer things, better. “Ruthless prioritization” keeps work aligned to mission, strategy, core operations, and compliance. The team consolidated ~1,798 courses to ~800 and is rebuilding high-value content for mobile delivery in Workday Learning. Build a distributed training network. Centralize standards and content, then empower expert trainers across departments to deliver. Add feedback loops with structured homework and report-outs so learners hold themselves accountable. Powered by Learning earned Awards of Distinction in the Podcast/Audio and Business Podcast categories from The Communicator Awards and a Gold and Silver Davey Award. Jairus traces his journey from Hershey to Sonic, McDonald's, and now Panera, sharing a behind-the-scenes case study on rebuilding Sonic's core burger from the ground up using guest feedback, quant modeling, and rigorous testing. He explains how culinary inspiration, trend data, and real-world operations come together to decide what actually makes it onto the menu—and stays there. Jairus also talks about serving younger consumers like Gen Z without chasing every shiny trend, why brand authenticity matters more than ever, how AI fits (and doesn't) into his process, and the philosophy of “flexibility with rigor” that guides his work and advice for other insights professionals.Key Discussion Points:How strategic insights at Panera Bread shape menu innovation, from guest feedback to foresight and trend spotting.A deep-dive case study: rebuilding Sonic's flagship burger based on consumer dissatisfaction, competitive benchmarking, and CLT/taste tests. The complex cross-functional ecosystem behind “menu magic”: insights, strategy, culinary, supply chain, and marketing working in lockstep.Balancing trend reports, social listening, and culinary creativity to decide which food trends are worth scaling—and which to skip.Adapting to Gen Z's desires for transparency, customization, and unique flavors while staying authentic to the Panera brand.Jairus's advice to insights pros: cross-industry networking, borrowing ideas from other categories, and practicing “flexibility with rigor.”Resources & Links:Panera Bread – Brand & MenuThe Hershey Company (early career in retail sales & CPG)CAVA (example of fast-casual brand resonating with younger consumers)7 Brew Coffee (emerging drive-thru coffee brand mentioned in the episode)You can reach out to Jairus Lofton on LinkedIn.Many thanks to Jairus Lofton for being our guest. This episode is sponsored by Lockton, click here to learn more Watch the Full Video on YouTube - click hereWhen people in the automotive world talk about leaders who bring out the best in others, Kim Less's name always surfaces. As Vice President of aftersales for Nissan Americas, she leads a team of more than 1,600 people in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and South America. Her leadership philosophy? Constant gentle pressure. The phrase, which came from Danny Meyer, perfectly captures how Kim shows up daily. To her, "constant" means persistence and accountability. "Gentle" means having your team's back while guiding them toward growth. And "pressure" is the drive to win, move with urgency, and deliver. Together, they form the balance she strives for: leading with calm confidence but never without expectation. At Nissan, Kim has spent years redefining what aftersales means inside the organization. For her, aftersales isn't an "afterthought," it's the engine that fuels brand loyalty and future sales. Leading across multiple countries means managing different cultures, languages, and expectations. Kim talks about how she's brought the entire Americas region together as one unified team. She does that by traveling to meet teams in person and building relationships and credibility. Over time, those consistent actions turned into a shared culture built on mutual respect and accountability. As the automotive industry evolves, Nissan is focused on simplifying its processes to make quicker decisions. Kim recalls working with the dealer advisory board to streamline 60 dealer-facing programs; removing or simplifying two-thirds to sharpen focus on what truly matters. To her, simplification isn't about doing less; it's about removing distractions so teams can move faster and stay focused on impact. She ties that same thinking to the importance of trust inside organizations. Once people trust each other and the data and systems they rely on, they no longer waste time validating every decision. That's when speed naturally follows. She also reflects on the personal side of leadership and the lessons from finding balance. Earlier in her career, while raising twins, she often hesitated to step away from work for family events. Over time, she learned that setting boundaries wasn't a weakness but a necessity. Now, she mentors others, urging them to "own their calendar," set limits, and protect their well-being. It's advice she lives by and passes down to emerging leaders who often feel pressured to choose between career and personal life.Themes discussed in this episode:How Kim Less applies “constant gentle pressure” to balance accountability, empathy, and performance in leading Nissan Aftersales AmericasThe leadership lessons Kim Less learned from Saturn and GM that shaped her people-first approach at NissanWhy calm leadership and consistency drive stronger team alignment across multiple cultures and regions in the AmericasThe business case for aftersales as a core growth engine that strengthens brand loyalty and customer lifetime valueThe transformation of Nissan's Aftersales organization through simplification, streamlined programs, and faster decision-makingThe process of uniting 1,600 employees across North and South America under one shared vision and operating modelThe importance of visiting markets and building relationships in person to earn credibility and alignmentHow setting boundaries, owning your calendar, and leading with authenticity sustain energy and focus in high-pressure rolesFeatured guest:

seven commitments outlined in his book, Staring Down The Wolf—--alignment. Throughout the episode, Mark peels back the layers of what alignment really means on the battlefield, in life, and in business.    Mark demonstrates how elite teams thrive when they are radically transparent, relentlessly communicative, and connected to a shared vision. He highlights real-life stories from SEAL team leaders and methods such as daily huddles that break down silos and speed up innovation and execution.    Along the way, Mark makes clear that alignment is about far more than just meetings or sharing information. It's about cultivating an environment where vulnerability is encouraged—-where every team member has the courage to communicate openly, rally around the mission, and keep themselves radically aligned for success.     Key Takeaways:  Relentless, Transparent Communication: Alignment can't come without honest and open communication. Open information sharing and the sharing of visions, challenges, and where support is needed accelerate team trust and execution.    Focus Amidst Information Overload: Recognize that while staying informed is crucial, true alignment comes from narrowing one's focus. It's important to ask: does this align with the team's vision?    Maximize Sharing: Expertise, resources, and information should all be shared openly within one's team. Hoarding knowledge can only hurt alignment and trust.   The Importance of Self-Reflection: Discover how regularly reflecting on one's alignment, focus, and potential distractions help teams and leaders stay true to their goals.   Mark Divine is a former Navy SEAL Commander, entrepreneur, and NYT Bestselling author with PhD in Global Leadership and Change who has dedicated his life to unlocking human potential through integrated training in mental toughness, leadership, and physical readiness. "Food need not be extravagant, complicated, or mysterious to be good. Quite the contrary." —Patricia Wells in her Introduction to Robert Olney's Simple French Food cookbook Whether you love cooking, loathe cooking or fall anywhere in between, we all need to eat. And if we eat well - a marriage of nutritive and delicious - we give ourself a very good shot at living a long and wonderful life. But we aren't born knowing how to cook. We have to choose to learn it, and depending upon our experience with food and the approach others took in how meals came together, we may have a whole host of beliefs about what constitutes good food, how to make it or why or why not we want to learn how to cook due to cultural expectations and pressures. Similar to living a life of contentment, we cannot just go pull the skills of cooking off the shelf, but instead, we do have to invest some time, effort and initially some money (for the tools), but the money need not be much, and the time need not be terribly lengthy if we have the right teachers and ingredients. Enter the French approach to cooking. The French have long been known for their prowess in the kitchen and with good reason. Auguste Escoffier began cooking at age 13 (1846-1935), and is known for both popularizing and modernizing traditional French cooking methods. You may recognize his name as it is often associated with The Ritz or with the five mother sauces. Rest assured, you do not need to know how to make these traditional French sauces to utilize the skills of the French approach to cooking. You may choose to learn all of them as you begin to find more enjoyment and reward with the basics that will be introduced to you today and further taught in TSLL's Introduction to French Cooking course for everyday deliciousness, but don't be intimated by the fanciness that often is paired with French food. Yes, it is fancy and beautiful and thoughtfully presented, but it is the creation that we are going to talk about today, and for everyday life, that is all you need to know. So let's get started!   ~Explore the detailed Show Notes on The Simply Luxurious Llife blog - https://thesimplyluxuriouslife.com/podcast406

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese are facing different forms of pressure. Caitlin Clark has been carrying her team and has made an incredible return, recently defeating the undefeated New York Liberty. On the other hand, Angel Reese contributed significantly with 11 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 assists, leading her team to victory over the Connecticut Sun. It's important to note that criticism can diminish delusion and foster humility. Humility is the foundation of progress and evolution, unlike anger or bitterness. This stands in stark contrast to the BIG3 league, where Stephen Jackson, a BIG3 coach, attempted to fight a player and Dwight Howard and Lance Stephenson got into an altercation.
