With Corpus Christi celebrated recently and the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus coming up, I reached out to Fr. George Elliott of CAST and Catholic-Link to discuss his book “Behold, It is I”, published by TAN Books. Fr. George and I worked together for a time when I was a writer for Catholic-Link. You can find those resources here. Behold, It is I: Scripture, Tradition, and Science on the Real PresenceAuthor: Fr. George Elliott & Stacy Trasancos, PhDYou can buy the book here!Father George Elliott, priest of the Diocese of Tyler, Texas, and author of the book 'Behold, It Is I', joins Will Wright on Good Distinctions. They discuss the book, which explores the biblical basis, tradition, and science behind the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. Father Elliott wrote the book to provide a concise and understandable resource for Catholics who believe in the Eucharist and engage in conversations about their faith. The book has received positive feedback from Catholics who were struggling with their faith in the Eucharist and from those who regularly speak to non-Catholics about their faith. Father Elliott and Will also discuss the concept of Eucharistic miracles and the mystical nature of the Eucharist. The conversation explores the problem of Catholics not fully understanding or believing in the real presence of the Eucharist. The book discussed in the conversation anticipated the Eucharistic revival happening in the Church and is a great help to those who wish to understand the Eucharist better. The importance of scripture, tradition, and the Magisterium in understanding the real presence is emphasized. The joy and fulfillment of the priestly life, particularly in offering Mass and hearing confessions, are highlighted. The conversation also touches on the topic of vocational discernment, emphasizing the need for prayer and developing a relationship with God.Takeaways* Father George Elliott wrote the book 'Behold, It Is I' to provide a concise and understandable resource for Catholics who believe in the Eucharist and engage in conversations about their faith.* The book has received positive feedback from Catholics who were struggling with their faith in the Eucharist and from those who regularly speak to non-Catholics about their faith.* Eucharistic miracles are not meant to provide scientific proof of the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist, but rather to deepen our faith and remind us of the infinite mystery of the Eucharist.* The Eucharist is a mystical experience that unites us with the divine and is more real than our everyday experiences.* The book explores the biblical basis, tradition, and science behind the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist, providing evidence and explanations to strengthen our belief in this sacrament. Did you know Catholics believe that at every mass, when we celebrate Holy Communion, the bread and wine become Jesus' Body and Blood? Why do we believe this? Where is the biblical, historical and scientific evidence? On today's episode of "What Is Truth?" I sit down with Fr. George Elliott to discuss his book "Behold It Is I: Scripture, Tradition, and Science on the Real Presence." We look at the biblical evidence for the Catholic view of the Eucharist (Holy Communion) beginning in the Old Testament all the way through the New. We then discuss how the witness of the earliest Christian teachers show the Church believed the Eucharist to be Jesus' Body and Blood. We end the episode by looking at the case of a Eucharistic Miracle from Buenos Aires to see what science might have to say about this Catholic doctrine. DR. STACY TRASANCOSThe Data from the Eucharistic MiraclesIn writing her latest book with Fr. George Elliott, Behold It is I: Scripture, Tradition, and Science on the Real Presence (Tan Books), Stacy Trasancos had to look deep into the data from the investigations of Eucharistic miracles. What she found was surprising and, at times, disappointing. In a commitment to the truth, she will present the data from the three miracles she studied: Lanciano, Bolsena, and Buenos Aires. Ultimately, she argues for the limits of science and the certainty of faith in Jesus Christ.MSGR. EUGENE MORRISAt the Church's Foundation: the Lord's Real PresenceHoly Mother Church teaches us that the Most Holy Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life (Catechism of the Catholic Church #1324). This means that Christian spirituality flows from the Most Holy Eucharist (the source) and so Christian actions should be directed towards Him (the summit). At the heart of this profound assertion is the Church's consistent teaching regarding the Real Presence of Our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament.

Robin Oliveira got started writing her first book after she saw a ghost – yes - quite literally! Hi there I'm your host Jenny Wheeler and today Robin talks about the unusual visitation that prompted a lot of questions, and tells what she'd do differently if she was starting out all over again. Six things you'll learn from this Joys of Binge Reading episode: Why she is obsessed with '19th century glass ceilings'How not listening to the discouragers worked for herThe holy delight of  exploring Civil War archivesThe public and private face of writingThe most common questions readers askThe authors she admires most Where to find Robin Oliveira:  Website: http://robinoliveira.com/ Facebook: @AuthorRobinOliviera What follows is a "near as" transcript of our conversation, not word for word but pretty close to it, with links to important mentions. Jenny:   Beginning at the beginning – was there a “Once Upon a Time” moment when you decided you wanted to write fiction??  And if so what was the catalyst for it? Author Robin Oliveira Robin: I don't have a moment that I can put my finger on in terms of thinking that I needed to be a writer, or I wanted to be a writer. I meet a lot of writers that say they absolutely wanted to be a writer from the moment they knew what books were. For me, I was a reader. I loved books. I spent my childhood reading, I spent a lot of my adulthood reading in my private time. It was after I had my children - I was a registered nurse, and I stayed home when they were young. I thought I could either go back to nursing, or I could try to write a book. When my son went off to kindergarten, that was when I started to try to teach myself how to write. I finally ended up at the community college program and then the University of Washington extension here in Seattle. They have a lovely program for writers. So it was a gradual process, but mostly I became a writer because I loved books. My Name Is Mary Sutter Jenny: Yes. And what made you choose historical fiction as your genre? You were attracted to that area obviously? Robin: I'm very drawn to the 19th century.   I'm very fond of authors like Jane Austen and George Elliott, so that was part of it. But I think the other thing is that I was drawn into historical fiction by the first character I ever wrote. As odd as it sounds, she appeared to me one day. This has never happened to me before or since. But I was dusting my dining room when a woman in a 19th century dress appeared to me. She was seated at a trestle table looking through a microscope, and she had medical books behind her. I started to investigate what person, what woman of that era would be doing in that. I just learned that women became conditioned out of their experiences in the Civil War. So then my first book was set in 19th century America. I learned so much about the era that I just wanted to learn more, so I kept setting my books there. American Civil War nurses Jenny: That's such a remarkable experience that I'd just like to focus on it for a moment. Had you been reading anything about Civil War nurses or had anything particular in your mind related to that when this vision appeared? Robin: No, absolutely not. I knew very little about the Civil War, but I am a registered nurse so there's that association. But I knew practically nothing about the American Civil War. I knew very little about the 19th century when I started and had that particular moment. Jenny: Was it a frightening moment? Robin: No, it's just one of those things - a quick apparition and then it was gone. It led me down this path to write the story of women who became physicians in the Civil War, which is a story that had not yet been told in American history. Nurse with Civil War wounded Jenny: Yes, it's marvellous - absolutely marvellous. So your heroine in that first book was Mary Sutter. I'm sure she was a fictional character.

After the death of local sex trafficking victim Ashley Benson, George wrote the play “Lost in the Shadows” when he learned how rampant sex trafficking is in Portland. He says, "As the owner, managing director, and principle teacher of Actor's Actor Studio & Workshop I believe in the imagination of our young performers; it is the key component in driving the creative process. The imagination will stimulate and trigger deep roots into the mind, body, and soul, while helping to bring forward fresh, independent, and disciplined behavior. My job is to facilitate this journey and encourage people to open up and experience the human plight on multiple levels, conditions, and circumstances." At Actor's Actor Studio & Workshop George says he wants to "elevate the artist as human beings through the practice of self-love, self-respect, and self-awareness; that is called discipline." This discipline may well be one of the best things for survivors. He explains, "I believe that actors can be trained to stay present in the moment (the now). In doing so, he or she can begin the process right where they are and expand from there. Ordinary humans can respond in extraordinary ways when exposed to creative paradigm shifts: Those moments when you can no longer fit into the small space of existence you once occupied. The artist is transformed by moment-to-moment expressions of true honesty and a renewal of mind, body, and spirit."
