OverviewIn this lively episode, the hosts express enthusiasm for the election of Pope Leo XIV, share personal stories, including a wedding-crashing adventure in Mexico, and dive into a deep discussion on the virtue of humility, drawing from Father Beleckias' book Solid Virtue. The episode blends humor, personal reflection, and spiritual insights, with a focus on Catholic faith and living a virtuous life.Key Topics1. Excitement Over Pope Leo XIVNew Pope Announcement: The hosts are thrilled about the election of Pope Leo XIV, an American cardinal with a Tulsa connection, having served on the board of Cascia Hall, a Catholic preparatory school in Tulsa.Historical Context: They discuss Pope Leo XIII, a significant influence (one host named a child after him), and note Leo XIV's choice of name as a nod to this legacy.Conclave Insights: The quick election (likely on the fourth ballot) suggests strong consensus among the cardinals. The hosts avoid speculating on insider details due to the sacred nature of the conclave.Fun Facts: Pope Leo XIV is a White Sox fan, not a Cubs fan, as initially reported. The hosts humorously claim him as "basically from Tulsa."Prophetic Banter: A playful exchange about predicting the length of Leo XIV's pontificate (jokingly suggested as 25 years) and his potential holiness.2. Personal Stories and Anniversary CelebrationDavid's Anniversary Getaway: David shares how he and his wife, Haley, celebrated their 13th anniversary with a phone-free weekend in Mexico to focus on their time together.Wedding Crashing in Mexico: David recounts crashing an Indian wedding at a resort in Mexico, joining the groom's procession with a hype man, music, and dancing. He and Haley briefly joined the celebration before slipping away.Hype Man Discussion: The hosts humorously explore the idea of having a hype man for life events, likening it to a boxer's ring walk or a DJ hyping up a crowd.3. Eucharistic Miracle of LancianoHistorical Miracle: David shares the story of a 12th-century Eucharistic miracle in Lanciano, Italy, where a doubting monk witnessed the host turn into flesh and the wine into blood during Mass.Scientific Studies: In 1977, 1978, and 1987, tests confirmed the flesh as living heart tissue and the blood as human, preserved for over 1,200 years.Spiritual Significance: The hosts emphasize the miracle's importance for reinforcing belief in the Real Presence, while noting that every Mass holds the same ontological reality.Pilgrimage Plans: The hosts invite listeners to join their October 2025 pilgrimage to Lanciano to celebrate Mass in the presence of this miracle.4. Discussion on HumilitySource Material: The hosts draw from Solid Virtue by Father Beleckias, S.J., to discuss the three degrees of humility.First Degree: Complete obedience to divine law, refusing to commit mortal sin even if offered the world or threatened with danger.Second Degree: Holy indifference to wealth, poverty, honor, or disgrace, refusing even venial sin for worldly gain. The hosts reflect on the challenge of achieving this in a materialistic world.Third Degree: Actively choosing poverty, contempt, and disgrace to imitate Christ's humility, as exemplified by saints like Francis and Katharine Drexel. The hosts acknowledge the difficulty of this level, especially for family men.Practical Insights:Humility is not thinking less of oneself but thinking rightly about oneself in relation...

Their biggest hang up is the problem of evil 16:20 – Are American Catholics deserting Israel? 24:05 – Why is the Catholic God ok with ritualistic cannibalism? How did the miracle of Lanciano go from bread to flesh? 36:10 – Wasn’t Papal infallibility a 19th century invention? If so, can you really backdate it 2,000 years? 42:58 – How do I get off a double minded mindset? I'm tired of church hopping. 47:01 – How available is contemplation for lay people? …
Today we have a Bat Cruise edition of the Atheist Experience live in the studio with Forrest Valkai, ObjectivelyDan, JMike, and Secular Rarity! David in CA, wants to create an experiment where we remove religious teachings from a society, and if it leads to a god explaining things that science is leaving out. Notice how the things we can't explain keep getting smaller. We would find that we can use rationality to come up with morality. Sean in TX, wants to talk about the Eucharist miracle of Lanciano, where it turned into actual flesh and blood, and they found the specimen was still alive. If this is true, why is ritualistic cannibalism part of your practice? What if we wanted to be more like another person and decided to eat that person? Why would god choose this miracle instead of ending world hunger? Ivan in CA feels that religions are man's attempt to explain things, and is curious about how to cross the threshold to believing there is not any god at all. If there is a god, what kind of god is it? What does your god actually do? Joshua in the USA, thinks the fine tuning argument is one of the best arguments that exists for theists, and proposes a thought experiment, where every piece of matter has the words, “made by Jesus”. Why does god create a world with life permitting constants rather than no world at all? Mike in WA believes that if a scientist can't make a complete set of amino acids, then abiogenesis could not possibly happen. Why are you not accepting the evidence that amino acids can self assemble? Was there a time where we could not create lightning in a lab? Benjamin in AL is calling once again to defend slavery in the Bible. What is the motivation for you wanting this and why do you want to defend slavery? Does that make god a good person if he is okay with slavery and would you worship this god? Why do you believe certain parts in the Bible over others? You are better than your god. Steve, a theist in NE, wants to discuss a research paper that argues for panspermia titled, "The Cause Of Cambrian Explosion, Terrestrial or Cosmic?” While cephalopods are life, it does not say anything for the rest of life on earth. Why are you making the leap of intentionality from this event? Jimmy in NY asks the hosts why they don't believe in god. How can the whole Bible be true if different parts say different things? Why do people go to hell and what kind of asshole would send someone there for not believing in him? Billy, a deist in TX, asks about the observer effect where 95% of the universe is not observable. This has been misunderstood for decades. Think some more on this and there is no need to get mad. Mike in SC says that god did not create a lousy world. Who made the Garden of Eden and who was in charge of where the trees were placed? Who allowed the serpent to tempt them? Thank you for tuning in! Question of the week is: What is a warning label that god forgot to make?Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-atheist-experience--3254896/support.

This week, John shares inspiring stories from a recent pilgrimage to Italy with Fr. James Clark and a group of 55 pilgrims. They visited sacred sites like Assisi, Lanciano, and the Vatican, experiencing the profound impact of Eucharistic miracles and venerating the relics of numerous saints. These moments not only deepened their faith but also strengthened the sense of community among the pilgrims. John recounts personal, moving stories, such as an emotional experience at the site of the Eucharistic miracle in Lanciano, where he helped fellow pilgrims create third-class relics. He also shares a memorable gelato outing in Rome with teenage boys from the group, highlighting the importance of fellowship and making lasting memories. These experiences illustrate how pilgrimage can bring people closer to the Lord and to each other, fostering a family-like bond among participants. In the final segment, John and Victor emphasize the importance of standing out in faith, inspired by Blessed Carlo Acutis and other saints. They discuss embracing one's unique calling and living boldly for Christ, despite life's challenges. John encourages listeners to strive for a deeper spiritual connection and look beyond the mundane. Don't miss out on these incredible journeys and how they can transform your faith.

The Truth in Love: Homilies & Reflections by Fr. Stephen Dardis
This is the most famous of all the Eucharistic miracles, and we get to celebrate Mass in the chapel right next to the relics of this Eucharistic miracle where bread and wine, not only became Jesus, but also as scientifically verified, had become real human flesh and real human blood.
For three weeks in February of 2023, a spontaneous ‘Outpouring' at Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky, set the hearts of American Christians aflame, reviving their faith and our spiritual conversation. Fr Norman Fischer, pastor of nearby St. Peter Claver Catholic Church and the chaplain at Lexington Catholic High School, in Lexington Kentucky, went over to Asbury to check it out. He tells us about the glorious events he witnessed there, in Wilmore. He also explains how, for Catholics, to feel the intercession of God is not unusual. God is in the Eucharist, in every miracle, in every saintly martyrdom, in every Marian apparition, and so our world is triumphantly enchanted with His Presence at every turn. Father Norman talks about his own numinous experiences and about his life as a priest. Short Interview with Fr. Norman, National Black Catholic Congress Fr. Norman on Facebook St. Peter Claver Parish on Facebook and on the diocesan webpage. Gina Christian's article in Detroit Catholic (which talks about Fr Norman at Asbury) Asbury University webpage about the Outpouring “A Gen Z Religious Revival” on the Honestly podcast with Bari Weiss. Join Father Agustino Torres, CFR, and co-host Solanyi Rodriguez with the very special guest, Father Robert J. Spitzer, S.J., Ph.D., philosopher, educator, author, speaker, host of the EWTN show “Father Spitzer's Universe,” and president of both the Magis Center of Reason and Faith and the Spitzer Center. In this episode we discover how the beauty and truth of science lives in harmony with Catholic belief, and how arguments of science and reason support the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist – body, blood, soul and divinity. Father Spitzer will detail what we mean by “Eucharistic miracles,” drawing upon examples reported throughout history and explaining how they were scientifically investigated – including the Eucharistic miracles of Lanciano, Italy, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Tixtla, Mexico, and Sokolka, Poland. We explore if there is actual human heart tissue found in the Eucharist Host, hear the story of atheist Dr. Castañón Gomez who investigated the Buenos Aires and Tixtla miracles, and much more! Episode 68 With an episode about the difficulty of belief under our belts (see Episode 67), we each take the challenge of giving our best "pitch" to unbelievers: why should you believe in Christianity? This is part one of that challenge, the Catholic's approach; a manly exercise of truth-telling aimed at a segment of the population in search for meaning. We hope it provides a useful demonstration (full of resources), as well as an interesting comparison to the upcoming Protestant Part-2 (due out next week). Dr. Chad Stolly sets off to diagnose, and prescribe a treatment for, what ails the unbeliever, as the General Practitioner for this episode. Assisting with setting the stage for this appointment, with his caring bedside manner, is co-host Nurse Ben Neff. The two talk through the symptoms at hand and work toward a conclusive cure. How can someone who's a thoroughly modern skeptic reconcile that fact with their deep inclination toward purpose and meaning? What reliable evidence is there for the existence of God and for the divinity of Christ? Do miracles--for those who need them to believe--still happen, and where can they be found in the Catholic tradition?SHOW NOTES:Book Recommendation List:The Everlasting Man, by G.K. While Catholics believe that the Eucharist becomes the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus, the form remains bread and wine. However, what if it didn't? What if the bread turned into flesh and the wine into blood in an extraordinary miracle? In this episode Justin Hibbard explores a few cases of Eucharistic miracles over the centuries and the scientific evidence that claims a miracle is the only explanation.Be sure to subscribe to Why Catholic? on your favorite podcast provider.Become a Why Catholic? patron at whycatholic.substack.com/subscribeSubmit questions for Q&A episodes at whycatholic@substack.comFollow Why Catholic? on Instagram: @whycatholicpodcastSOURCES:* Scientific publication “Ricerch Istologiche, Immunologiche, Biochimiche Carne Sangue Milacolo Eucaristico Lanciano [VII Secolo] by Dr. Odoardo Linoli* Video: Dr. Linoli's report on the Eucharistic Miracle of Lanciano with English translation* Video: Scientific Evidences of Eucharistic Miracles - The Catholic Talk Show with Ray Grijalba* Video Playlist of Eucharistic Miracles on The Joy of the Faith channel - Ray Grijalba's YouTube Site.* Blessed Carlo Acutis' Eucharistic Miracles Online Exposé* Report of Eucharistic Miracle on July 2022 in Zapotlanejo, Mexico with Video* Information and Depictions of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Get full access to Why Catholic? at whycatholic.substack.com/subscribe
Can bread actually turn into real flesh at the words of a priest? Can wine actually turn into blood? Yes, it can… and it actually did! Today, I share some insights on what are the Eucharistic Miracles, and I speak particularly on the miracle of Lanciano and the miracle of Orvieto. And how St. Thomas Aquinas wrote his famous hymns in honor of the Eucharist. - Here is a good article on the miracle of Lanciano: Eucharistic Miracle of Lanciano (therealpresence.org) - Here is a good article on the miracle of Bolsena-Orvieto: Eucharistic Miracle of Bolsena-Orvieto, Italy (therealpresence.org) ; - Regarding the Hymns written by St. Thomas Aquinas for the Feast of Corpus Christi, they are the following: Adoro te Devote; Lauda Sion Salvatorem (which is the Sequence for today's Mass); Sacris Solemniis (including its sixth stanza, the Panis Angelicus); Pange Lingua Gloriosi (including its last two stanzas, the Tantum Ergo); and Verbum Supernum (including its last two stanzas, the O Salutaris). - More info on this can be found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church #1322-1419 - Biblical quotations: John 5:52 and following (“Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood…”); Lk 22:14-20 (Last Supper); Mk 14:22-26; 1Cor 11:23-27. - Fr.
