Paul gives us an assurance at the end of Romans 8. It is magnificent and yet very simple. In these verses, he's saying, “Here's the thing that will absolutely change your life through Christ.”  Paul tells us this assurance, and he says this is the thing that you can use every day that will change your life. Let's look at it under three headings: 1) that we can be assured, 2) why we can be assured, and 3) how we can be assured. We are Back! Phew- it took a while to get here but we are back in action. I am excited to kick off this summer series for the next 4 weeks and have some great themes and wisdom to share that God dropped in my brain the past couple months. This has been prayed over and confirmed so many times. You will hear from some special guests as well as some solo offerings. The premise? According to Psychology Today, self-control is "the ability to manage one's impulses, emotions, and behaviors to achieve long-term goals". But where does this ability come from? What motivates this ability to control one's self?Consider the multi-billion dollar self-help industry. So much of it centred around controlling, managing and maintaining what Psychology Today described as "impulses, emotions and behaviours". Clearly, most human beings are struggling with self-control on some level. And I would suggest to you that it stems from a deeper issue. One that goes past physical and emotional cravings and desires, and centred more on a spiritual struggle.This week, as we conclude our Cultivate series, "Character with Spiritual Evidence", we'll discover how God's Holy Spirit can provide a level of self-control than no self-help book could ever offer you.
