In this episode, Tudor sits down with Kayla Toney, attorney at First Liberty Institute, to uncover a shocking case of student faith discrimination. They discuss the story of high school student Sabrina Stephens, who was denied the right to display her religious beliefs through her parking space artwork. Together, Tudor and Kayla break down what this means for First Amendment protections, how parents can advocate for their children’s rights, and why misinformation about the separation of church and state continues to spread. It's Wednesday, September 3rd, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Turkish persecution of Christians heats up The Turkish Association of Protestant Churches reports Christians in Turkey faced increased persecution last year. The persecution often came in the form of hateful speech either in person or online. And, iIn two cases, assailants fired guns at church buildings. Turkey also banned many foreign Christians from entering the country in recent years. Nine of these Christians appealed the ban. However, a court ruled against them and published their names. Media outlets branded the Christians as enemies of the state. Many social media comments called for them to be put to death. Turkey is ranked 45th on the Open Doors' World Watch List of the most difficult countries worldwide to be a Christian. 2.5 million acres of European Union burned The European Union is experiencing its worst wildfire season since records began in 2006. Nearly 2.5 million acres of land have burned so far this year. Spain and Portugal account for over two-thirds of that area. Between the two countries, over 1.5 million acres have burned with much of it happening in just two weeks. Birth rates in England and Wales continue to fall The U.K. Office for National Statistics reported last week that birth rates fell to a new low in England and Wales. Other developed countries are also seeing low birth rates like the United States, France, and Italy. However, there appears to be a political gap in fertility. John Burn-Murdoch of the Financial Times wrote, “From the US to Europe and beyond, people who identify as conservative are having almost as many children as they were decades ago. The decline is overwhelmingly among those on the progressive left, in effect nudging each successive generation's politics further to the right.” Quebec, Canada to ban public prayers Quebec, Canada's largest province, is planning to ban public prayer. Quebec's Secularism Minister Jean-François Roberge said, “The premier of Quebec has given me the mandate to strengthen secularism . . . This fall, we will therefore introduce a bill to strengthen secularism in Quebec, in particular by banning street prayers.” The move comes in response to Muslim prayer gatherings. However, it would apply to all religions including Christianity. Nearly 65% of Quebec's population identifies as Christian. Psalm 10:4 says, “The wicked, in the haughtiness of his countenance, does not seek [the Lord]. All his thoughts are, ‘There is no God.'” Univ of Michigan fired Christian doctor who objected to transgender surgeries In the United States, a federal court ruled in favor of a Christian in a religious liberty case. Back in 2021, the University of Michigan Health-West fired Valerie Kloosterman for her beliefs. The Christian physician assistant refused to support transgender procedures or pronoun usage. The latest ruling allows her case against the university to move forward. Kayla Toney, counsel at First Liberty Institute, said, “Today's decision is a reckoning for institutions that discriminate and punish caring people of faith.” Bill Gates funds embalming of deceased newborns to harvest organs Modernity News reports the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is funding a new gruesome project. The project involves embalming deceased newborn babies who died in neonatal intensive care units. Researchers would harvest tissues and organs from the babies for artificial intelligence development. LifeNews noted, “The Gates Foundation's involvement is seen as particularly troubling given its history of funding abortion.” 150th anniversary of Japan Bible Society And finally, the Japan Bible Society is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. In the 1870s, American and European Bible societies established branches in Japan. These early Bible societies translated the Scriptures into Japanese in the 1880s. Their work laid the foundation for the current Japan Bible Society. Bible distribution in Japan picked up in the 1940s as 2.3 million copies of the Bible were distributed. After World War II, the Japan Bible Society became a fully self-supporting Bible Society. Its website says, “Since then, the Japan Bible Society has not only been serving the Japanese people but also other Bible Societies that are not yet independent.” Psalm 22:27 says, “All the ends of the world shall remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations shall worship before You.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Wednesday, September 3rd, in the year of our Lord 2025. Some states in our nation are "coming apart at the seams" as they've capitulated to an agenda that's contrary to biblical authority and morality. Texas, however, is fighting this trend. Providing details was Jonathan Saenz. He's president and attorney for Texas Values, a nonprofit group dedicated to preserving and advancing a culture of family values in the state of Texas. Prior to leading Texas Values, Jonathan headed the First Liberty Institute offices in Austin where he served as Director of Legislative Affairs as well as Attorney for First Liberty Institute. He's been involved in numerous court cases including those before the Texas Supreme Court as well as the United States Supreme Court. Jim had Jonathan comment on numerous issues including: The Texas heartbeat law, Men invading women's sports (The Save Women's Sports Act and the Texas Women's Privacy Act), chemical abortion drugs, prayer in public schools, and more. Find out how Texas is handling these issues, learn about the Texas Faith Fest, and how you can make a difference in your state, on this edition of Crosstalk.
What if you discovered you have more religious freedom right now than at any point in your lifetime—but nobody told you? In this episode of Refining Rhetoric, Robert sits down with Kelly Shackelford, President and CEO of First Liberty Institute, to discuss the remarkable string of religious freedom victories at the Supreme Court that most Americans don't even know happened. Shackelford, a constitutional scholar who has argued and won multiple cases before the Supreme Court, breaks down four major religious liberty wins achieved in just 13 months, including the landmark Coach Kennedy case that overturned 50 years of anti-religious precedent. Key topics covered: How the Supreme Court restored religious freedom protections in the workplace and schools What these victories mean for Christians, business owners, and educators Practical guidance on exercising religious rights at work and in public spaces The truth about what pastors can and cannot say from the pulpit regarding politics Why millions of Christian voters staying home could change election outcomes Resources available at FirstLiberty.org for understanding your religious freedom rights Shackelford emphasizes that Americans now have more religious freedom than they've had in their lifetime, but many don't realize the extent of their restored rights. This episode provides essential insights for anyone wanting to understand and exercise their constitutional religious liberties. This episode of Conversations with Christians Engaged is part of our Stories from America series, featuring believers making a real impact in culture. In this episode, Bunni Pounds sits down with constitutional attorney Keisha Russell of First Liberty Institute to discuss her new book on defending religious freedom.Keisha shares her journey from teaching special education in Atlanta to becoming one of the nation's leading defenders of religious liberty. Together, Bunni and Keisha dive deep into why the First Amendment matters for every believer, how Christians can boldly exercise their rights, and why fear should never keep us from living out our faith in public. They explore real cases—from Coach Kennedy's historic win at the Supreme Court to believers standing firm in schools and workplaces—and unpack the cultural misunderstandings around “separation of church and state.” Keisha reminds us that defending freedom isn't just about courtrooms; it's about inspiring everyday Christians to know the truth, stand firm, and proclaim the gospel without fear.
The ongoing case of Etienne v. Ferguson raises profound questions about the interplay between religious liberty and state authority, particularly regarding Catholic confession, which centuries-old religious doctrine deems as absolutely confidential. The case challenges Washington's Senate Bill 5375, titled "Concering the duty of clergy to report child abuse and neglect." Does a state mandatory reporter law violate the First Amendment’s religion clauses if it encompasses information learned during the sacrament? Or can the state justify overriding the seal of confession as a necessary and justifiable measure to protect children? This webinar will examine the passage of Washington’s Senate Bill 5375, the historical and theological significance of confession, the constitutional protections afforded by the free exercise and establishment clauses, and the concerns of some that religious practices could be commandeered in service to the state’s police power. The discussion will also address whether the law unconstitutionally targets Catholic clergy and whether the state’s interest in child protection can supersede the religious obligation of priests to maintain absolute confidentiality, under penalty of excommunication. Our guests will consider the delicate relationship between religious liberty and state power in this high-stakes case.Featuring:Matthew Martens, Partner, WilmerHale LLP(Moderator) Hiram Sasser, Executive General Counsel, First Liberty Institute
Lawyer and legal scholar Timon Cline joins the podcast to share his ambitious proposal to revisit and overturn the Supreme Court's 1947 ruling on the Establishment Clause in Everson v. Board of Education. Drawing on his recent Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy article, "Everson Must Fall," co-authored with Josh Hammer (James Wilson '21) and Yoram Hazony, Cline explains the role that the opinion has played in misshaping our culture and a potential path to its reversal. Timon Cline is the Editor in Chief at American Reformer. He is an attorney and a fellow at the Craig Center at Westminster Theological Seminary and the Director of Scholarly Initiatives at the Hale Institute of New Saint Andrews College. It's Wednesday, July 30th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Ugandan Muslims kill relative convert to Christianity Muslims in Uganda killed a relative of theirs earlier this month after he had converted to Christianity. Kasajja Abdul Maliki accepted Christ in April. The pastor who shared the Gospel with him told Morning Star News, “I took him to my house and discipled him in Christian teachings for a week, and thereafter he returned back to his home.” Since then, Maliki stopped attending prayers at the mosque. He would study the Bible and pray in his home instead. His relatives broke into his house on July 18. They found him praying for their salvation. Some of them became so angry, they began beating him and even stabbed him. Neighbors tried to save Maliki, but he died on the way to a nearby clinic. Revelation 12:11 says, “They overcame [the Devil] by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.” Argentinian president recognizes non-Catholic religious groups Evangelical Focus reports that Argentina now recognizes Evangelical churches. President Javier Milei signed a measure to officially recognize non-Catholic religious groups as “religious legal entities.” Most people in Argentina still identify as Catholic, but the number of Evangelicals has grown in recent years. The Christian Alliance of Evangelical Churches of the Republic of Argentina commented on the new measure. It said, “This was achieved thanks to the efforts, prayers, and perseverance of Christians who have worked with respect, patience, and faith to see this progress for over 30 years.” Florida has greatest religious liberty; West Virginia the worst In the United States, First Liberty Institute released their 2025 Religious Liberty in the States report. The report evaluates states based on 47 religious liberty safeguards. The top state this year was Florida with a score of 74.6%. The worst state was West Virginia with a score of 19.6%. Most states fell in the 25%-50% range. Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis enthusiastically affirmed religious liberty. DeSANTIS: “Today, Florida has earned the number one ranking amongst all 50 states for protecting religious liberty. If you go back to the founding of our country, religious liberty was basically the first freedom that the Founding Fathers sought to protect. “Religious freedom was part of the reason people even settled in the American colonies to begin with. This is something that is central to the American experiment and central to our way of life. But it is something that has really been under assault in recent years.” U.S. federal employees allowed to talk about Christian faith Federal employees can now talk about their faith at work. The U.S. Office of Personnel Management sent out a memo on Monday about protecting religious expression in the federal workplace. Workers are allowed to display Bibles and crosses, talk to other employees about their faith, and form prayer groups. The memo states, “The Federal workforce should be a welcoming place for Federal employees who practice a religious faith. Allowing religious discrimination in the Federal workplace violates the law. It also threatens to adversely impact recruitment and retention of highly-qualified employees of faith.” Planned Parenthood closes 33 abortion mills nationally Life News reports that Planned Parenthood has closed 33 abortion mills so far this year. This includes one of its locations in the Houston area of Texas which was known as the largest abortion mill in the Western Hemisphere. Shawn Carney with 40 Days for Life said, “The defunding of Planned Parenthood and the closure of abortion centers from coast to coast means that July 2025 will go down as the WORST month in Planned Parenthood's history… for now! Toppling this abortion Goliath proves that, with God, all things truly are possible.” Trust in church increases And finally, people are putting more trust in the church, according to a survey from Gallup. Thirty-six percent of U.S. adults have significant confidence in the church. That's up from 31% in 2022. However, it's down from 66% in 1973 when Gallup first started tracking the percentage. The last year that a majority of Americans had confidence in the church was 2009. Currently, the only institutions that a majority of Americans trust are small business, the military, and science. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Wednesday, July 30th, in the year of our Lord 2025. Encinitas Unified School District required two fifth-grade boys and their assigned kindergarten buddies to read and watch My Shadow is Pink and do an activity, pressuring the kindergartners to choose a color to represent their own shadows. The plaintiffs allege this was designed to make the students question their gender identity. Represented by First Liberty Institute and the National Center for Law and Policy, the families filed a complaint in the Southern District of California and sought a motion for preliminary injunction. On May 12, 2025, Judge M. James Lorenz granted that motion in part, requiring the school district to provide advance notice and opt-outs when gender identity material is taught in mentoring programs. The judge’s opinion focused on compelled speech, finding that the plaintiffs were likely to succeed on the merits of that claim.Free speech expert Professor Eugene Volokh and counsel Kayla Toney, who represents the families, will break down the opinion and discuss its ramifications for First Amendment jurisprudence.Featuring:Kayla Ann Toney, Counsel, First Liberty Institute(Moderator) Prof. Eugene Volokh, Gary T. President Trump announced his widespread reciprocal tariffs yesterday, and Glenn has some thoughts. America is at a crossroads, and Glenn says we have two choices. The first choice is how to manage our decline. The elites don't believe our system is working, so they've been managing our downfall. The U.S. national debt is at $35 trillion, and we aren't making enough to pay it off. Glenn argues the elites need America's decline to maintain power. Committee to Unleash Prosperity's Stephen Moore returns to explain why he believes Trump's tariffs will benefit America. First Liberty Institute executive general council Hiram Sasser joins to discuss the issue of the judiciary growing more powerful than the executive branch. BlazeTV host Steve Deace joins to explain how America can separate its powers and oust the people manipulating the system to maintain power. Glenn goes through all the new tariffs President Trump has implemented and theorizes why he's doing it. Glenn argues that President Trump shouldn't just use his tariff plan to build a nation that survives. He must build a nation that leads. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

On today's encouraging episode, Pastor Jack and attorney Kelly Shackelford discuss exciting victories in America's court system and many successful outcomes within the Supreme Court. Kelly Shackelford is President and Chief Executive Officer of First Liberty Institute.
