On the 58th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & special guest, Brad Rusthoven from the Slamfest Podcast, review the 1990 debut album from Mother Love Bone, "Apple." Mother Love Bone has legendary status amongst grunge fans. The band was formed in Seattle from another legendary early grunge band, Green River. The band was led by charismatic frontman and main songwriter, Andrew Wood. Guitarist Stone Gossard of Green River and latter Pearl Jam on rhythm and lead guitar and Bruce Fairweather on lead and rhythm guitar as well. Jeff Ament previously of Green River and later of Pearl Jam fame on bass and Greg Gilmore on drums. The album was a mixture of alt rock, glam metal and future grunge. Hard hitting lyrics which also showed a lighter and more fun side of the "Seattle Sound." Mother Love Bone was one of the earliest Seattle bands to be destined for greatness with their debut album coming on a major label. However, Andrew Wood's death from heroin overdose on March 19, 1990 was tragic end of this upcoming band. The album was released a few months later on July 19, 1990. A tribute album/band, Temple Of The Dog further created the legend of Mother Love Bone as did the breakout of Pearl Jam shortly thereafter. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. This was Tom's pick. So tune in to learn about the "Love Commander" and what was Brad doing in the bathroom? He had the water running all day! We also talk about the development of high school bands in Seattle during the 1980s, which later gave rise to successful Seattle bands like Pearl Jam or Guns n Roses. “Introspection and Awareness" The French born drummer Greg Gilmore landed in Seattle as a young man and what better way to punctuate those formative teenage years than with a punk band? Joining forces with John Conte, Todd Fleishman, and Duff McKagan Gilmore and his pals played speedbag punk that fell somewhere between the Clash and The Germs. They became local favorites, opened for DOA in Vancouver and Seattle and thanks to a quick studio session, recorded seven tracks which are now seeing the light of day for the first time. Released on Loosegroove Records which is owned by Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam and Regan Hagar of Satchel and Brad, the band’s set is called The Living 1982 and of the document, Gossard says, is "a reminder that the Living are ground zero for the Seattle sound.” The songs are fast and dynamic and played with a frenzied punk spirit and youthful momentum. The idea to put these songs out came from Gilmore, who actually unearthed the recordings. He says: “The Living was the beginning of all things Seattle for me --a turning point in my life. I joined a band and a community. These guys are still my brothers. I've cherished these recordings since the days we made them. This record is a fantastic document of a loaded moment. I love it.” Well, in music years, The Living really were only around in music years for about a moment. After the band, broke up, Duff and Gilmore landed in Ten Minute Warning, then the two pals went to LA. McKagan ended up joining Guns N’ Roses and Gilmore headed back to Seattle where he played briefly with Skin Yard before co-founded Mother Love Bone. After the death of Mother Love Bone singer Andrew Wood, Gilmore went on to collaborate with Seattle producing legend Jack Endino for a series of albums. He also played with Land, Doghead, and Steve Fisk. As a drummer, Gilmore plays with thoughtful muscle. He’s an introspective guy and his playing has the perfect blend of cerebral athleticism. We talk about that introspection here among a lot of other things: travel, friendships, self-awareness, intellectualizing ourselves in and out of enjoyment and the ins and outs of being social. https://www.instagram.com/loosegrooverecords linktr.ee/loosegroove www.alexgreenonline.com Instagram: @emberseditor Twitter: @emberspodcast
Before Seattle's Duff McKagan went on to become the bassist for Guns N’ Roses and before Seattle’s Mother Love Bone started influencing the city’s grunge sound, there was The Living. It was an early 80’s Seattle punk band made up of a teenage Duff McKagan on guitar, Greg Gilmore (of Mother Love Bone) on drums, Todd Fleischman on bass, and John Conte as the band’s frontman. Seattle’s Loosegroove Records, which is co-run by Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard, has just released The Living’s album, titled ‘1982,' for the very first time. “It’s Seattle hardcore, pre-grunge [...] it really showcases who the real king of grunge is and I think it might be Duff and Greg and Todd and John,” Gossard says. For this episode, drummer Greg Gilmore talks about the themes on the record and how it's finally seeing the light of day. Donate to Seattle Theatre Group at http://stgpresents.org/donate On April 16th Regan Hagar and Stone Gossard, atop their newly rebooted Loosegroove records will offer, for your listening pleasure, the long lost recordings of The Living. A band that played around the NW for about a year in 1982 before it went the way of most bands. It morphed, into something else. Luckily, in that year, the boys would go up to American Music in Fremont WA and lay to tape, what they'd been up to. Had it come out then, that recording would have been the first time the "world" would hear Greg Gilmore on drums, and, at a salty 17 years old, Duff Mckagan, making his debut as an absolute monster of a creative driving force. Seattle Today was lucky enough to have, both Greg, and then Duff come to The Moore Theatre to talk with us about that period in their lives. We were also blessed with a visit from the Mighty Blaine Cook, who would be the singer in the band that both Greg and Duff would follow up The Living with, Ten Minute Warning. Duff Mckagan is a Seattle musician. From 1979-84 after spending time in numerous bands rehearsing and performing around the northwest (including The Fartz and The Fastbacks) the first band in which he was the creative driving force was The Living. A long lost recording of The Living is being released this month on vinyl courtesy of Loosegroove records. Obviously we were beside ourselves that he agreed to come on Seattle Today and talk with us about this formative and foundational period of his artistic trajectory. While it's no secret Duff and Geoff have been pals forever, and played in (the band) Loaded together, it's also no secret Duff is not necessarily fond of doing press, in general, and (what amounts to prolonged torturous press) podcasts, in particular. If was definitely an honor to have him on, and he even took the time to give Steve a much needed bass lesson. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/seattletoday/message
Donate to Seattle Theatre Group at http://stgpresents.org/donate Greg Gilmore is a Seattle musician. Greg's first Seattle band was called The Living, turns our they're about to finally be a big deal around here. There is a long lost recording being released on vinyl thanks to Loosegroove Records later this month. Greg would also go on to play in Ten Minute Warning and MotherLoverBone. He stopped by to the Moore Theatre talk to us about his recollections of what the music scene was like in Seattle at the end of the 70's, early 80's and into the 90's. Geoff and Steve have both known Greg for more than twenty years, but, rarely is it the time or place, out in bars or at clubs (or even on ferries) to speak about true experiences and perspectives. At two hours into our conversation, Greg said he was just getting warmed up... and we couldn't have been happier to oblige. Hope you enjoy! On April 16th Regan Hagar and Stone Gossard, atop their newly rebooted Loosegroove records will offer, for your listening pleasure, the long lost recordings of The Living. He's into a lot of other cool things, but these are the subjects we wanted to talk to him about. We were honored and incredibly grateful that he took time out to speak with us. We hope you enjoy. Prior to the grunge scene in Seattle the cities punk scene was vibrant and teen angst ran wild. Harassed by cops and authority, it gave teens the sense of unity and the music was the extension of their anger. The band The Living was a huge part of that scene that later saw members Duff McKagan move to Southern California and form Guns'n'Roses and also where Mother Love Bone drummer Greg Gilmore honed his craft. I chat with vocalist John Conte about this moment in Seattle music history and how the re-release came to be. Please enjoy the episode!Part of Pantheon Podcast Network!

Greg talks about his first band in high school, the Punk scene in Seattle, why he couldn't live in LA, the Dead Kennedy's, living with Duff McKagan, his new album release from The Living, and how he's not a fart! Enjoy!
Including one of the most fun interviews I've ever done, this episode is another double interview show with the great entertainer Greg Kihn telling his wonderful stories that include Bruce Springsteen, flying saucers, after hours events at a church and so much more! Also interviewed is Greg Gilmore, drummer with Mother Love Bone, to talk about previously unreleased music set to be heard from his time in The Living, a group he formed with Guns n Roses man Duff McKagan. It's another fantastic show with some incredible stories! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Welcome to our second to last show of the year! All the hosts are here to hang out with our good buddy and five time guest, Greg Gilmore. Greg's giving us the skinny on his Silver New Year's Eve party at Pignic, playing a couple of songs, AND we're recapping the amazing weekend that was Marianarchy. We even had a surprise appearance by our friend and intern for the night Andrew from Lost Idea/Infecto Skeletons! It gets weird. Press play!
Hello! Welcome back to the Worst Little Podcast. Rory is home with his beautiful new baby (CONGRATS AGAIN!) so Nick, Kim, and Dogwater "Dick in the Back" are holding it down at the studio with our good friends Silver! Well 4/5 of them anyway. They're here to promote their new EP, Rock'n'Roll is Dead, coming at you June 3rd, and we're giving you a first listen! Press play to hear it before you can buy it. We're getting deep with the band this week. There's TMI, fake meltdowns, and shenanigans that'll leave you asking "is this podcast public?"
This week we had a studio full of gingers and boy did things get spicy. Our guest this week is the one and only John White, joined by our favorite red headed, cookie baking, trivia hosting comedian, Aubrey Forsten! Hide your kids, take out your grandmas hearing aides and press play to hear us reminisce about the excellent weekend that was Marianarchy, snowy pubes, and road head music.
Kim, Rory, and Rick are sitting down with part of the cast of the musical Get Bent: A Gender Bent Musical Review. In the studio we have Michelle, Stephanie, and the lovely Xelena - Empress of the Impossible - here to fill us in on their latest gender bending production. They answer the hard questions and share a few songs from the show. So listen up and play along at home.
Rory, Nick, Rick, and Chewy bring you this week's podcast from a not so hot and sweaty studio (because Kim's not there). This week we are joined by Lee, Perry, Amelia, and Travis from Basement Tapes! Listen up for some top notch Reno garage rock and learn how many times we should forgive someone before we're allowed to punch them!
This week your second favorite and ONLY Worst Little Podcast has cooked up something really special for you. We have Skycats in the studio, FINALLY! Yours truly, Kadillac Kim, has been so excited to showcase them on the podcast that I have hardly been able to contain myself. To say that this duo is talented would be the understatement of the century. Or at least like the last few minutes. I'm very dramatic. Anyway, listen up to hear me fangirl all over them (it gets messy).
Welcome to a whole new year, mofos! We hope you all had a happy and safe new year; we sure did. Starting things off with a bang is Silver, self-described as "American Roots Music" and featuring the musical stylings of Adam Landis, Brendon Lund, Jeff Knight, Josh Kisor and Greg Gilmore.
