Sometimes real beauty is found in relationships that stay - and the ones we outgrow. Reach out to me @francenejdavidson, enjoy!

This episode is part of the Fertility Detour. A limited series under Real Beauty with FD Fertility doesn't always follow a straight line, and for many of us, the path to motherhood or the decision not to become one is filled with loss, uncertainty, resilience, and unexpected strength. In this series, I'm sharing my own story. I'm walking through each chapter of the fertility journey from miscarriage to IVF, to the emotional, physical, and mental toll it can take in a way that's honest, unfiltered, and nonclinical. This isn't about advice or perfect outcomes. It's about naming what's hard, honoring what's real, and holding space. For anyone who's found themselves on a fertility detour, they never planned for. The Lunchtime Series
Evidence Supporting Inclusive Marketing

The Lunchtime Series

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 23, 2026 29:16

The Lunchtime Series, hosted by Kevin Britz and Craig Page-Lee continues to evolve as a sharp, real-time lens on the intersection of marketing, business pressure, and commercial growth. In this 245th episode, the conversation moves beyond theory into the tension most founders and operators feel daily: balancing overwhelming operational workload with the urgent need to build sustainable revenue streams. Against a backdrop of eighteen-hour workdays and high-pressure campaign delivery, the discussion grounds itself in a critical question — what actually drives growth when time, energy, and focus are stretched to their limits?A key thread running through the episode is the cost of operational overload. Campaign demands have consumed capacity to the point where new business development, innovation, and strategic thinking have been sidelined. Both Kevin and Craig acknowledge a shared frustration: the work they enjoy — building, creating, and shaping meaningful projects like the upcoming TV concept — is being crowded out by execution-heavy demands. This creates not just fatigue, but strategic risk. Without carving out space to focus on new revenue and scalable ideas, the business becomes trapped in a cycle of delivery without growth. From this very real operational pressure, the conversation pivots into a much broader commercial theme: **inclusive marketing as a growth engine**, not a moral checkbox. Drawing on insights from Kantar's Marketing Trends 2026 report, the discussion reframes inclusive marketing as **“expansive marketing”** — a deliberate strategy to reach underserved, high-growth audiences. This is a critical distinction. Inclusion is not positioned as compliance or virtue signaling, but as a direct pathway to revenue, brand strength, and long-term relevance. The data is unambiguous. Global consumer demand for brands that actively promote diversity continues to rise, with 65% of consumers valuing inclusive companies. More importantly, the economic power of underrepresented groups is vast — from trillions in spending across LGBTQ+, disabled, and multicultural communities. The implication is clear: brands that fail to engage these audiences meaningfully are not just missing a cultural moment; they are leaving significant revenue on the table. The episode reinforces this with powerful case studies. Mattel's transformation of Barbie demonstrates how embedding inclusion into product and brand strategy can unlock sustained growth, long before cultural moments like the 2023 film amplify it. Dove's Real Beauty campaign stands as one of the most commercially successful long-term examples, doubling revenue while reshaping brand perception globally. Meanwhile, Microsoft's Xbox Adaptive Controller shows how inclusive design at a product level can drive both innovation and purchase intent across all audiences — not just those directly represented. However, the conversation does not ignore the current backlash against Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). Several major corporations have scaled back initiatives under political and legal pressure, but the commercial consequences have been severe. The example of Target is particularly stark: retreating from inclusion efforts resulted in immediate consumer backlash, reduced foot traffic, and billions lost in market value. The lesson is blunt — abandoning values does not win back critics, but it does erode trust among loyal customers. This leads to one of the most important strategic insights from the episode: brands cannot afford to be inconsistent in their values. In a polarized environment, attempting to please everyone often results in losing everyone. The brands that succeed are those that remain clear, consistent, and committed — even when external pressure mounts.

Hope with God... with Andrew and Wendy Palau

We are made for beauty. It drives us—our urges, our longings. We love beautiful things. We love new babies, and new cars, and beautiful forests, and mountains, and rivers. There is a type of beauty that takes us past the surface-level longing. The prophet Isaiah, from the Bible, tells us that Jesus had no beauty or majesty to attract us to Him. He put His beauty—His glory—aside so that we could see what real, eternal beauty looks like. So that we could see that, even in our brokenness, we can be beautiful—that He alone can make beauty out of the ashes of our lives. Are you longing for beauty in your life? Always remember, there is hope with God. This is Wendy Palau.  Scripture Reference: Isaiah 53:2 radio.hopewithgod.com

Shared Value is defined as “policies and operating practices that enhance the competitiveness of a company while simultaneously advancing the economic and social conditions in the communities in which it operates.” He is also a member of the Creating Shared Value Advisory Board at Nestle. Alongside Harvard Professor Michael Porter, Mark has helped to introduce new concepts such as catalytic philanthropy, collective impact, impact investing, and shared value.  His course “Purpose & Profit” teaches creating shared value to both MBA's and executives alike. In this episode, we discuss: How Paypal is impacting thousands of small business owners How an insurance company expanded the average lifespan of their customers by 10 years Why government and NGOs won't be able to solve the world's biggest problems Key Takeaways:  How you do business is a choice. Instead of setting a bar of “do no harm” we can choose to act in a way that will leave the world better off because we existed. We can aim to delight future generations by the choices we make today. The examples Mark shared were so powerful at illustrating how, when a purpose is embedded into the heart of the business, it impacts innovation, identifying new revenue streams, and ultimately impact consumers in a positive way. When looking for businesses that are purpose-led and focused on shared value, Prof Mark Kramer instructs his students at Harvard Business School to look for companies that don't have a separate Corporate Social Responsibility or Sustainability department. If these activities are separate, they are rarely business integrated. What a great point, and a great reminder to business leaders. If you want your company to stand for something, and lead in that thing—whether it's being the most sustainable company in your industry, or like PayPal, democratizing access to financial tools—everyone in the company should be working to make it happen, not just one department. It's the last conversation of MID, Season Two, with our guest Alison Brahe Daddo. Ali was THE Australian model of the late 80s, on every magazine cover and on many a teenage girl's wall. She had a huge career here and overseas, and then she married the equally famous and swoon-worthy Cameron Daddo, backed right away from the industry, settled in LA and raised a family. Now, as Alison Brahe Daddo, or Ali, as very many of us know her, she's also become just the most honest, interesting voice about midlife and menopause and all the messy challenges it brings us. But in this episode, we're not actually talking about that. We're getting deep about surface stuff. Beauty, whatever it means to us - and let's be honest, there's a sliding scale of how much any of us can ever claim to have felt beautiful, at any age - is a beast in midlife. Because how we wear our age on our face and our bodies can feel so important, so crucial to how the outside world sees us, even as we know it's really the silliest of all our concerns. It often doesn't feel that way. Listen to Holly and Ali discuss how they're feeling, what they're doing about, and where they stand on the mistakes they've made in thinking and talking about our faces and our bodies as we move on through. How much do looks really matter? In society, whether we like it or not, how we look affects how we are treated—and even what opportunities we might have in life. A one-time New York prison commissioner, Henry Solomon, once stated that “physical defects…might conduce to crime” because a man with a poor physical appearance would have an easier time stealing a dollar than getting hired to earn one. That outlook wasn't new then, and it hasn't really gone away. In Zara Stone's amazing book KILLER LOOKS, she writes that “people have instinctively understood the societal benefits of conventional beauty” as a kind of social currency. It's literally like having money in the bank. “Beauty privilege is real,” she writes, “and it's real uncomfortable.” By the early 1980s, cosmetic surgery was firmly established as a path to economic success. Looks were so important that a new branch of therapy was created: cosmetic behavior therapy. If that sounds strange, just wait. Imagine a program that offers cosmetic changes to inmates as a means of lowering the crime rate—that instead of teaching us to lose out biases about looks, society is pretty willing to give in to it. Do looks really affect crime rates? More likely, appearance bias instead creates a situation where a person is both less likely to have opportunities AND more likely to be accused or arrested for a crime. What does appearance bias mean for us now, or for the future? Find out on July 11th, live with Zara Stone only on the Peculiar book club! Episode was recorded live July 11, 2024. Host Heather Creekmore continues her conversation with Jonna, a biblical counselor, women's ministry leader, and pastor's wife who struggled with body image issues. Jonna shares the specific insights and breakthroughs she experienced in her journey of overcoming body image struggles through coaching with Heather. This is part two of the conversation. Today's conversation delves into how Jonna learned to shift her perspective about beauty and the true source of beauty according to scripture. She reflects on the realization that her blessings in life are not related to her physical appearance, but rather her relationships and the joy of being with her family. Jonna shares her emotional journey of learning to see herself and others through a different lens, focusing on joy and the character of the Lord rather than physical appearance. Jonna also discusses various exercises and reflections she underwent during the coaching program, such as acknowledging her struggle with Body Dysmorphic Disorder and the impact of her childhood experiences. She emphasizes the significance of adopting a new perspective on her identity and righteousness in Christ, realizing that her worth does not come from striving for physical betterment or perfection. The episode concludes with Jonna expressing her appreciation for Heather's coaching and the positive impact it has had on her life. Heather encourages listeners to consider participating in the coaching program or the 40-day Body Image Workbook Lent Reading Challenge to embark on their own journey toward freedom from body image struggles. This episode provides a candid and transformative dialogue about embracing one's true identity and finding freedom from the pressures of physical appearance through a faith-based, biblical approach to body image issues.

Today Heather Creekmore interviews her coaching client, pastor's wife, biblical counselor and women's ministry leader, Jonna, to share her story of body image struggles and what she experienced as she went through Heather's group coaching program: the Body Image Freedom Framework. Jonna vulnerably recounts the impact of hurtful comments on her body image and identity (including a drive-by "lose weight" comment). She talks about her internal battles as a Christian and biblical counselor facing body image struggles and how she believed she should already know or have all the answers to be free. Jonna helps listeners gain insight into the misconceptions surrounding seeking help for body image issues. She also unpacks her own journey and the temptation we all have to focus on physical appearance as a distraction from addressing deeper emotional wounds. Jonna's story highlights the importance of reorienting our focus towards pursuing the imperishable beauty of the heart and a quiet spirit and finding real beauty in fearing the Lord. Jonna's story will encourage and inspire you. There is hope if you have body image struggles. And, there's no one too "informed" or "mature" to be beyond getting the help they need from a trusted advisor to identify the places you are stuck so that you can find true freedom in Christ.  Next week we'll hear the rest of Jonna's story and she'll share how God worked in specific parts of her life through coaching!

We chat about how when we lose sight of Jesus, we are called to imitate Mary and seek until He is found. By persevering on this journey and staying strong in the face of distraction or complacency, we cultivate a deeper union with Him. God Himself is calling us to take this journey because out of love, He desires to give Himself to us. This week, Kate answers three questions and made it into one episode after having an epiphany about 3-in-1 products and their correlation to the patriarchy, consumerism, and religion in line at a Walgreens (where she has all her best thoughts). This turducken of an episode snorkels the irony of the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty being executed alongside Axe Body Spray's incredibly sexist mid-aughts advertising and details some thoughts on her own struggles with body image over the past year that she was surprised came back up to the surface (TW: diets, EDs). Then, she does a mini deep dive of the D.A.R.E. program, including “Cartoon All-Stars,” the Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip of cartoons and cereal box characters who didn't want you to smoke dope, discusses the program's efficacy, then answers a listener's astute question about the role of “Just Say No” culture contributing to the boundary setting many of our elders find undesirable. Kate also discusses some nuances that may exist between Boomers and Millennials as it relates to employment, the pendulum swinging from purpose-driven employment back to not needing to find identity in employment, and how it should be okay to meet (not *exceed* your employer's expectations).
