Released to critical acclaim, Marissa Nadler’s third album, Songs III: Bird on the Water, is a record which sees the her begin to expand her sonic palette. Joined by folk-cum-psychedelic rock outfit Espers on a few of the tracks (the album was produced by founding member Greg Weeks), her sound is augmented with hints of synth, electric guitar, cello, percussion and harp. For the first time she really begins to truly channel the American gothic vibes that she’d be tagged with for years, and the results are pretty interesting. As it turns out, her back catalogue was much bigger than Mark initially realised, so with that in mind we give as much of discography a going over as we can, bar the odd bandcamp only release. The results are mixed, with split opinion amongst the troops about Nadler’s oeuvre. So what do you think? Is this an unsung classic or is it just a wee bit meh? Vote on Twitter below. In this episode, our host Kristin Wolff talks with Dr. Greg Weeks, consultant researcher, professor, and former Director of Washington State’s Labor Market Information system. Greg has authored numerous papers looking at the returns to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) – the labor market outcomes of workers with credentials in STEM skills, using WA’s longitudinal data system. (Spoiler alert: the returns are not particularly equitable across demographic groups). He’s also conducting research on the size and nature of non-standard employment (e.g. the “gig” economy) and has much to share about how longitudinal data can help us better understand how our labor markets work.   Enjoy!   For more information: * Education Research and Date Center (ERDC): https://erdc.wa.gov/ * Returns to STEM Research: https://erdc.wa.gov/publications/economic-returns * MEF & Associates (Gig Economy research): https://mefassociates.com/our-work/ * Find Greg LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/greg-weeks-ph-d-81957612/ Have you heard? This edition of the Livecast began with stories. Sean told a story about how he took a shitty cooking class and then Rob told a story about being invited to a murder mystery party. In the second hour, we got on the phone with Garrett Weinstein, who drew that awesome comic with Rob in it and he told us about some of his other works (which you could look at here PBOTB.com). At the end of the show, Pizza Destroyer called in and asked us when we would have a member of The Red Chord on so that he can ask an urgent sounding question. So we called Greg Weeks to give The Pizza his opportunity. The resulting interaction was hilarious, and an all-time great Livecast moment. Greg also revealed what date he will come down to cohost show, so stay tuned for that. The show ends with Rob laughing far too long and too weird. On this very momentous 100th edition of the Metal Inejction Livecast, we were joined by some very special guests. We started the show talking about the recent shooting in Arizona. Sean then told us about his recent experiences doing jury duty. About a half hour into the show, we had our first guest on the show, Greg Puciato of The Dillinger Escape Plan, who answered a wide range of questions about working out tips, Dave Mustaine stories and some very revealing info about his and Dillinger's future plans. We took a music break and were joined by two of the world's greatest men, Greg Weeks and Gunface of The Red Chord who talked even less about metal than Greg Puciato. Gunface had some problems with his phone which were eventually resolved, but they eventually talked about their jingles, Gunface's new career as a voiceover artist, Greg selling his beard and much more. After the call, we heard our first news report from our new correspondant "The Ripper" before ending the show with two classic bits.
