In this episode of The Mind Shift Podcast hosted by Erwin and Aaron McManus, we dive into the complex dynamics of ego, self-belief, and discipline in the journey toward success. The conversation begins with Aaron emphasizing the importance of managing internal voices and celebrating wins as a way to maintain momentum. Erwin complements this by underscoring the necessity of discipline and hard work, cautioning against letting ego drive one's ambitions. Together, the hosts explore the significance of having a clear purpose and vision in business. Aaron and Erwin candidly share their personal struggles with self-doubt and comparison, offering valuable insights into how these challenges can be navigated. They discuss the positive and negative aspects of comparison, with Aaron emphasizing the need to align comparisons with personal values and goals, while Erwin acknowledges that comparisons can sometimes be limiting. The conversation transitions to the topic of finding success through personal growth and serving others. Aaron encourages listeners to seek out role models who embody the qualities they aspire to achieve, while Erwin stresses the importance of focusing on serving others and contributing positively to the world, rather than solely pursuing economic success. As the dialogue continues, Aaron and Erwin tackle the impact of negative thoughts and self-doubt on one's mental health. Aaron shares his struggle with negative voices and the challenges of finding balance between positive and negative thoughts. Erwin offers strategies for shifting focus from negative thoughts to positive scenarios, highlighting the role of self-awareness and emotional maturity in building healthy relationships. The episode concludes with a thought-provoking discussion about the nature of good and evil, with Aaron defining evil as a violation of the image of God in someone else, while Erwin suggests that evil exists as the absence of good. Through this exploration, Erwin and Aaron remind us of the complexities of applying spiritual principles to real-life situations and emphasize the importance of recognizing both good and evil to become the best version of oneself. We might feel fear about doing something, taking a risk in our careers, traveling to a new place, or taking a workshop that is outside our comfort zone. These fears might make us uncomfortable. However, they are truly an expression of how much you care for yourself - wanting to keep yourself safe, healthy and protected. The problem is, in this case, the way we express our desire for safety prevents our potential for growth. How can you meet your needs in a way that truly serves you? How can you feel healthy, safe and full, even while taking risks and growing? 98. Growing up, did you ever sit out in the grass and play the old flower petal “gamble” game? You know the one where you whisper over and over again “he loves me, he loves me not” as you sheepishly pluck petals off of a flower. I'll be the first to (embarrassingly) admit… I remember doing it. “He loves me, he loves me not… he loves me, he loves me not…” As if love were some kind of toss-up, luck of the draw game of chance?! Well… maybe back in the 5th grade it was. But these days? We're older, wiser and more equipped. Love is deep. It's true and real. You know that. I don't have to tell you. But what about when it comes to you loving yourself? What does that kind of love look like? Have you ever thought about it? So often as women, we think about, and try to show our love for others, but do we slow down enough to actually form a healthy “self-love?” Rebecca Dawson, a faith based Master's Level counselor is joining me on the podcast today to dive into this topic. I have to admit… she rocked my world when she mentioned a piece of scripture during our recording that goes like this… “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. And love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other command greater than these.” (Mark 12:30-31) Wait a minute!? The Bible says to “love yourself?!” Oh yes, sister, it does. I don't know about you but I have referenced that scripture in my mind so many times before like this…. “Love your neighbor” Period. Hard stop! But it doesn't stop there. It goes on to say “as yourself.” #Mindblown, right?! Needless to say, there is GOOD STUFF coming your way on the podcast today! Tune in to hear about “self-love” being explained in a Biblical way (and I'm not talking “self-care”), and take away some tangible tips for how you can begin to create a healthy self-love in your own life. According to host Camille Sanzone, the greatest love affair we’ll ever have is with ourselves, & she’s not talking about auto-eroticism! She says: "If we don’t have enough love for domestic consumption, we won’t have any for foreign export. Learning to love ourselves is not a 'vanity' thing, but a 'sanity' thing, because it’s 'crazy' to treat others better than we treat ourselves."
