Tonight, we'll be moving on to study a subject that I absolutely love, the History of the Bible. You know, the Bible claims to be divinely inspired and preserved. Is that right? Can we count on that? What does it look like to love the Bible? The Bible – 66 books filled with chapters and verses, stories and histories, written by a number of different authors over a period around 1,500 years – this book is the foundation of the Christian faith. The Bible is read in churches around the world every weekend, is read daily by millions of believers, and can even be found in many a hotel drawer. But what does loving the Bible – God's Word – look like and how does the history of the Bible affect how we look at it and love it today? In today's episode, host Jason Wieland is joined by Dr. Susan Lim. Susan is a historian and writer and has a new book out titled Light of the Word: How Knowing the History of the Bible Illuminates Our Faith. In this conversation, Jason and Susan talk about what it means to love God's Word, how knowing the historical nature of the Bible can impact how you read it today, what the most compelling challenge to Scripture is and how we respond to it, and what it truly looks like to read the Bible in faith.
What can the Bible tell us about the past? How does it intersect with the complexities of science? The historical significance of the Bible is undeniable, and in this episode, we sit down with Thomas Purifoy, Jr. once again to discuss the fascinating evidence that it provides for the creation story… Thomas is a filmmaker and an educator who has produced, written, and directed numerous projects – including Is Genesis History?, Samaritan, and The Widow and Judge. In addition to this, he creates educational materials for churches and families in an effort to advance the Kingdom of God. Are you ready to uncover a historical paradigm shift that may drastically change your understanding of science and faith? Click play now! In this episode, we go over: The ways in which science and history intersect and tell stories about the past. The importance of looking at the Bible as a book of history. Conventional vs Biblical geological views. Details about Thomas's latest film, Is Genesis History? Mountains After the Flood You can uncover more on Thomas Purifoy and his work by clicking here. What is the history of the Bible and its books? Is this really a mystery? No! The Bible tells us whom the curators of inspired scripture were. This never changed in the Old Testament to the First Century and the track is extremely well defined. There is only 1 Bible Canon of the Biblically ordained custodians of scripture period. There are never 2. There are never options. This is not an enigma and has never been hidden in scripture. The Bible defines who kept the Old Testament to the First Century and we must follow only them in determining Bible Canon. We have their Canon found in archaeology and the mantra of illiteracy in scholarship remains vast and uninformed. We will obliterate this now. Where did the Temple Priests who kept scripture last live int he First Century? Has their library of Bible Canon been found? Watch, test and learn. Yah Bless. Speaking personally and honestly, my return to the Bible and the Christian faith has been mixed. There's been some good understanding, learning, clarifying, brothers and sisters, but also a great deal of confusion and opposition, especially where different sects are concerned. In this interview artist, writer, coach, friend, and former podcast co-host, Sean (S.B.) Alger is joining me to discuss the history of the Bible in a basic way to help dispel the confusion. He's going to explain what are the different "canons" or 'sets of books' for different denominations, talk about how they read it in different sects, and how he thinks the Bible is best used. Sean's Bio: S.B. Alger is an "Artist in Many Categories". Some main current entries include, music, digital visual art, polymer clay sculpture, and various writings. Sean is most well known for formerly co-hosting the "Rx Only PICTURESHOW" along with Jim Maiden. It was a variety show with singing and juggling and yo-yo'ing and also talking about conspiracies and occult subjects with various astute guests including Beth just before it ended. Currently, Sean appears weekly on "Weaving Spiders Welcome", a new show, hosted my Jim Maiden - a symposium discussion, with many weekly participants and just as many topics. Join as Pastor John concludes our series on the History of the Bible
As Christians, we say with our Jewish and Muslim siblings, that we are a "people of the Book." But what does that mean when the book in question is full of angels, and demons, and worldwide floods, and virgin births, and miraculous healings? How do we, as modern people, make sense of this, and perhaps more to the point, how does it apply to our lives right now, in 2022? Together we are going to explore a little history of how we got the Bible in the form we have now, and discuss interpretation, or how we understand it and put it into practice.
We take a closer look at the history of the world's most controversial book - The Bible. Who wrote it? When? How was it distributed? How did it become the book we all know today? This and more on today's Minuteman Report.
Message 13 in the series "The History of the Bible" If Westcott and Hort believed what they said they did, according to the Bible, they were not saved. Can we trust people who are not saved and don't believe the Bible to accurately and faithfully translate the Bible from their own Greek text? A bibliography for this series is available upon request.
