Talk about going from chocolates to boiled lollies back to chocolates and then boiled lollies again! The loss of Captain Pearce is far from ideal and we literally did the hokey pokey with him all week. Time to Restump Podcast the stoush against the Suns. This is almost as tough an assignment as there is in AFL at the moment. Playing the Gold Coast Suns on their home deck usually doesn't end well for the touring teams in recent times. They've won 9 of their last 11 games at home, they're sitting pretty in 3rd on the ladder and they still have a game in hand. Considering they've only had 2 games at home so far this year, it means they've won 6 games away from People's First Stadium, something they've struggled to do up until this season. So, it is it pretty safe to say the Gold Coast Suns have now finally arrived?Making our tough task more difficult, we've lost Captain Pearce, to the absolute delight for Ben King. We've also lost livewire forward Izzy Dudley and obviously Cooper Simpson. However, Nat Fyfe, Sean Darcy and Josh Draper return fill the void and they're 3 handy ones to pick up the slack. It's an interesting decision to bring both Darcy and Fyfe back in when the forecast is for big bloody buckets of rain. Not that you can't get injured in the WAFL, but it's a little surprising they didn't go around in the twos. However, you'd imagine both will somehow be on managed minutes. Is it the ideal time to restart the validation trial of project JackArce? Up against Jarrod Witts and Ned Moyle in the expected torrential conditions, it just feels that maybe we haven't set Sean Darcy up for success. But we're not conditioning coaches or sport scientists so, who knows. Beyond the project are we making an error going in extremely tall? It failed a couple of weeks back and those conditions were pristine. Maybe the selection committee are backing the courage of their conviction. Not going to lie, as much as we tried to stave it off, the cautious optimism crept up and infected us again over the last couple of weeks. But Saturday is a different kettle of fish.... and given how much rain is forecast, that might be from a literal sense! Matty Rowell, Noah Anderson and Bailey Humphrey give you the impression they'll drink up the wet conditions. We did play well in dampness last week but we may need to swim a few extra training laps before Saturday. But, we're Dockers, we're waterside workers! Aren't storms and overcast conditions the natural enemies of the sun? What are we talking about here... we have the traditional conditional upper hand! And what do we always say at the Restump? If the world floods, it matters not to the duck! Time to wander into the upcoming watery wrestle in greater in depth. So, join us as we take a quick preview dip and a cold plunge in the purple pod pool.Send us a textSupport the show

A day later we can see clearly now the rain has gone. Time to Restump Podcast Freo's rain drops keep falling on my head loss to the Gold Coast Suns. How were we not prepared for the conditions? We're from a port, we're Dockers, Dockers work on a wharf! How could water even remotely seem foreign to them? Did they think we all ironically came down in the last shower? Now the angst is out of the way we can look at it in a more measured manner…. yeah measured manner with a rain gauge! The conditions overwhelmingly were the talking point but they shouldn't be judged as the reason for the performance. It was our bewildering inability to adapt and be prepared for the conditions…. oh and it was also Gold Coast themselves, they brought the heat we didn't.Kicking a winning score was always going to be difficult without a Taberner, Walters and Switkowski. When the Suns' mids got on top and then their forward pressure came… we got hung out to, obviously metaphorically, dry. Some positives on a dark day, Griffin Logue's form continued as he broke the all time Freo record for intercepts with 17. Neil Erasmus showed us signs he'll be a career mid for the next dozen years and, while part of a beaten midfield, Will Brodie carried on his hard ball getting ways with a game high 17 contested of his 27 possessions.Anyone who indulges in the ‘old man Malthouse trade Fyfe' talk got a reality check. We had no one to stop the rot… A big Fyfey would have been handy. Darcy uncharacteristically lowered his colours and, despite his best one-handed mark attempts, Lobb had no influence which left all the points with Gold Coast's Jarrod Witts. But to be fair, they weren't on their own. We had few winners out there Sunday. Maybe the loss just resets the expectations and brings them back into line with reality. Nothing goes up in a straight line and teams will always throw in an uncharacteristic inexplicable one. Anomalies aren't trend changers, we're still on the up.Maybe, its simply the loss we had to have. So, join us for a reviewing paddle through Sunday's waterlogged game as we mop up the spillage and refill the expectation glass to half full.
As Freo fans it feels a bit weird ridiculing Gold Coast's trades. Doesn't mean we're not going to do it, but just feels weird. Time to Restump Podcast Sunday's clash against the Suns. We've not got a great recent record at Gold Coast's home ground Metricon stadium, but then again… with two losses from three games there this year, neither do the Suns. Some expected big ins but a somewhat surprising yet also understandable out with Brandon Walker, having been told to take a spin around the oval with the Peel boys. Fresh off taking care of Curnow and Cameron, Griffin Logue returns to play his 50th. Alex Pearce and his defensive crew will look to contain the in form Levi “Rock the” Casboult all while keeping short leashes on the dangerous Izak Rankine and Ben Ainsworth. Will Brodie makes his return to the place where it barely began. So its safe to say he won't be humming the Cheers tv show theme song, “Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name.” Brodie will be looking to continue making the statement he has in the first 8 rounds. With Switta and Sonny side-lined and still no Tabs, 3 or 4 goals more now fall on the shoulders of the collective. The forecast is for 25 degrees and rain…. I don't know about you but that sounds like the perfect weather for the Cyclone to me!Sean “Swaggy Oh” Darcy has only played against Jarrod Witts once in his career and it was a break even contest. They're both in cracking form but we'll back Darce, with back up from Lobby, to relentlessly drive Jarrod mad, possibly to Witt's end.We have to keep an eye on Touk Miller after his rare quiet one last week, Matty “Notepad” Rowell is back on his way to becoming that contested possession king and the slick big ball winning youngster Noah Anderson returns to the Suns line up.It's a game we should win but the Suns are a bit unpredictable and they're are coming off a big win over the Swans on the their home deck last week. Fyfe is on the way back, Matty Johnson is closing in on returning to the WAFL but unfortunately the Disco is out for an extended period. We see Luke Jackson making his way West this weekend and wonder if room in the schedule has been made for a bit of chat. The Chief has found out a bit more about Bob's role down at the club and we bring it home with another episode of the informative segment, Ask Jojo. So stop reading this rubbish and join us on the pod by clicking a bunch of links and buttons until you get our purple preview nonsense in your ears.

Daniel Currie is a former AFL player for the Sydney, North Melbourne and Gold Coast Football Club's. Daniel is one of my close friends, so it is really nice to share this with others and display his humility, genuineness and positive attitude. As you’ll come to learn from this chat if you don’t already know Daniel’s story, he endured an AFL career that didn’t have much luck along the way, nor does it reflect the level of persistence, commitment and professionalism he displayed through his career that spanned 10 years and returned him 10 games in that time.It is a great story and experience for others to learn a lot from about facing adversity, continuing to show up and be the best version of yourself regardless of the situation or circumstance, and that although you have big intentions and hopes of achieving great things, you don't always get to choose your story, but you can control your response and reactions to it which is exactly how Daniel approached it.Daniel holds a record I’m sure he wishes he didn’t, that being the longest to make his AFL debut after being drafted. It took Daniel eight years, two AFL clubs, a delisting and a stint in the SANFL and living in three different states to be selected for his first game. That in itself says something about his determination to chase his dream, to control what he could, to see situations as challenges to overcome rather than road blocks, to continue to move forward and not dwell and most importantly, his character and the regard he is held in within the AFL industry for his remarkable resilience.Throughout this episode, we discuss his long and arduous journey, beginning his AFL career in Sydney whilst still completing his year 12 studies in Melbourne, being delisted, the frustrations of being 2nd in line to Todd Goldstein, one of the AFL’s most durable ruckman and arguably the competitions best ruckman still today, the process of rehab and facing multiple stints on the sideline through injury and his mindset and positive attitude that remained throughout his career despite the outcomes and reward not reflecting the investment and effort he was putting in.Please enjoy this open and insightful conversation with Daniel Currie.
