America's estimated greenhouse gas emissions rose by 2.4% last year — which is a big deal since they had been steady or falling in 2023 and 2024. More ominously, U.S. emissions grew faster than our gross domestic product last year, suggesting that the economy got less efficient from a climate pollution perspective. Is this Trump's fault? The AI boom's? Or was it a weird fluke? In this week's Shift Key episode, Rob talks to Ben King, a climate and energy director at the Rhodium Group, about why U.S. emissions grew and what it says about the underlying structure of the American economy. They talk about the power grid, the natural gas system, and whether industry is going to overtake other emissions drivers as once thought. Shift Key is hosted by Robinson Meyer, the founding executive editor of Heatmap, and Jesse Jenkins, a professor of energy systems engineering at Princeton University. Nothing about the zebrafish is physically impressive. Despite being less than an inch long, this little fish from Southeast Asia is a favorite for home aquariums and human health research. Zebrafish are powerhouses in the lab. Not only can they regrow their organs and body parts, but they also have transparent eggs and remarkably similar DNA to human beings. All of those features, and the fact that they are easy to grow and care for, make zebrafish great for studying some of the most serious diseases affecting people — from infections and cancer to muscular dystrophy. The University of Maine has ongoing and completed research projects that use zebrafish as a model, some of which have led to groundbreaking discoveries. In this episode of “The Maine Question” podcast, UMaine faculty members Ben King, Melody Neely and Rob Wheeler explore how university research uses this remarkable little fish with host Ron Lisnet.
Nathan Schmook and Michael Whiting bring you the latest footy news on AFL Daily. After a history making 2025 can the SUNS go even further in 2026? With the additions of Christian Petracca and Jamarra Ugle-Hagan it's impossible to think otherwise. Bailey Humphrey may feel like he owes the club after his attempt at leaving during the trade period, and can they get the signature of Ben King locked away early in the season to quash any discussion of him heading home to Victoria? In this episode of the Kankakee Podcast, host Jake LaMore sits down with Randy King and Ben King of King Music, a multi-generational, family-owned music store that has become a pillar of the Kankakee County community since its beginnings in 1981. Randy and Ben share the fascinating journey of how King Music got its start—from humble beginnings teaching lessons in a small country-western storefront, to becoming one of the area's most trusted destinations for instruments, repairs, and music education.Jake, a lifelong King Music customer, reminisces about growing up around the store, the King family's influence, and the vital role their business has played for local musicians, students, and educators. Randy and Ben open up about the evolution of King Music through decades of industry changes, the hardships and triumphs of running a small business, and the importance of adapting (including lessons learned during COVID and moving their business online). The conversation also highlights King Music's commitment to giving back, like their annual "Strings for Food" event, partnerships across the local arts community, and innovative early-childhood music classes that have inspired generations. Heartfelt moments emerge as Randy reflects on the store's impact following the passing of his brother and business partner, Dave King, and the challenges of shepherding King Music through difficult transitions. Ben shares what it's been like to take on a larger role in the family business, his own musical journey, and dreams for the future. What rare instruments have shown up at King Music? How did they turn a risky idea into a staple of Kankakee? And what's next for King Music as it eyes its next 40 years? Tune in for inspiring behind-the-scenes stories, local music history, and a celebration of the power of community support. If you've ever picked up an instrument in Kankakee—or just care about supporting local business and the arts—this is one episode you won't want to miss!Send us a text Support the show
Talk about going from chocolates to boiled lollies back to chocolates and then boiled lollies again! The loss of Captain Pearce is far from ideal and we literally did the hokey pokey with him all week. Time to Restump Podcast the stoush against the Suns. This is almost as tough an assignment as there is in AFL at the moment. Playing the Gold Coast Suns on their home deck usually doesn't end well for the touring teams in recent times. They've won 9 of their last 11 games at home, they're sitting pretty in 3rd on the ladder and they still have a game in hand. Considering they've only had 2 games at home so far this year, it means they've won 6 games away from People's First Stadium, something they've struggled to do up until this season. So, it is it pretty safe to say the Gold Coast Suns have now finally arrived?Making our tough task more difficult, we've lost Captain Pearce, to the absolute delight for Ben King. We've also lost livewire forward Izzy Dudley and obviously Cooper Simpson. However, Nat Fyfe, Sean Darcy and Josh Draper return fill the void and they're 3 handy ones to pick up the slack. It's an interesting decision to bring both Darcy and Fyfe back in when the forecast is for big bloody buckets of rain. Not that you can't get injured in the WAFL, but it's a little surprising they didn't go around in the twos. However, you'd imagine both will somehow be on managed minutes. Is it the ideal time to restart the validation trial of project JackArce? Up against Jarrod Witts and Ned Moyle in the expected torrential conditions, it just feels that maybe we haven't set Sean Darcy up for success. But we're not conditioning coaches or sport scientists so, who knows. Beyond the project are we making an error going in extremely tall? It failed a couple of weeks back and those conditions were pristine. Maybe the selection committee are backing the courage of their conviction. Not going to lie, as much as we tried to stave it off, the cautious optimism crept up and infected us again over the last couple of weeks. But Saturday is a different kettle of fish.... and given how much rain is forecast, that might be from a literal sense! Matty Rowell, Noah Anderson and Bailey Humphrey give you the impression they'll drink up the wet conditions. We did play well in dampness last week but we may need to swim a few extra training laps before Saturday. But, we're Dockers, we're waterside workers! Aren't storms and overcast conditions the natural enemies of the sun? What are we talking about here... we have the traditional conditional upper hand! And what do we always say at the Restump? If the world floods, it matters not to the duck! Time to wander into the upcoming watery wrestle in greater in depth. So, join us as we take a quick preview dip and a cold plunge in the purple pod pool.Send us a textSupport the show

From Ted's crazy, dangerous troubled twenties in my hometown of AK New Zealand, to his restoration to sanity in Los Angeles CA. In his AHL debut, Sharks 2022 first round pick Filip Bystedt notched a pair of goals and added an assist but the San Jose Barracuda (21-32-9-3) would fall 6-5 in a shootout on Wednesday night at the Pechanga Arena against the San Diego Gulls (24-31-8-0). In the first, the Gulls put the first five shots on net, and managed to grab momentum early. On their seventh shot of the period, Nathan Gaucher (10) would make it goals in his last four as he tipped in a Nick Wolff point-pull at 9:09. After Gaucher was called for tripping, the Barracuda managed to tie the score as Kyle Rau (7) tipped in a Danil Gushchin shot from the blue line. After the Gulls took their lead back on a Ben King (15) goal at 16:23, Scott Sabourin (17) managed to tie the score with just nine seconds left in the period as he ripped in a sharp-angle shot past Alex Stalock.
