Jayson Buford is a writer and a lifelong New Yorker, a diehard Knicks and Yankees fan, and someone who has been searching for Rocawear jackets to bring back into the mainstream. His work can be found in Rolling Stone, Stereogum, Byline, GQ, Vulture, Pitchfork and more. Jayson's Substack is filled with basketball, and hiphop where I hope one day he gets his own show to chat about this. I met at Jumbo's Clown Room and also Harvard and Stone. Two Los Angeles institutions where when you first start off as an indie performer you can only go up from here. A product of the roaches in them ashtrays. 00:00 - 52:18 - Baby Boy 52:18 - 1:16:24 - Malcolm in the Middle we're joined by Jayson Buford on this week's episode to talk about John Singleton's 2001 masterpiece, Baby Boy. Tyrese deals with stunted adolescence and a world that isn't built for him, and Ving Rhames might be the only one who can set him straight. we get into the connections of Singleton to PTA and Spielberg, the recurring themes of his filmography, and Baby Boy's rough eccentricities that might keep it from being as much of a TV staple as Poetic Justice or Boyz N the Hood. Then, on MitM(52:18), Malcolm pays a visit to his old friend Jason Blum with Insidious: The Red Door. Jayson does Barbiehammer and finally fills us in on the lighter side of the double feature before we relitigate the Nolan. JT prepares a little Pasolini snack, and Eddie remembers the late great William Friedkin and The French Connection upon his passing. https://jaysonbuford.substack.com/

We ask a few burning questions including: how did they lose this game? Was this the biggest upset in NBA history? And where do the Bucks go from here? Should they make moves to get younger around Giannis this offseason? Or run it back for one more year with the current core? Enjoy. Once an interview starts you are never really sure where its going to go. Some artist can be understandably closed and guarded preferring to only talk about themselves in terms of their artistry. In a handful of cases an artist gives us a window into their personal journey. This week's conversation with Louis Logic is one of those interviews. After gaining traction in the early/mid aughts and working with legends like MF DOOM Louis Logic seemingly fell off the rap radar for several years. He fills us in on some of the dark times he faced and how he got his life back on track after struggling with alcohol and drug problems. He rounds off the interview by talking about the exciting new projects he is working on. In the intro segment hosts David Ma and Demone Carter share their reflection on the incendiary new piece written by Jayson Buford entitled "The Painful Mediocrity of White Boy Rap" The Dad Bods also delve into the new double album release by Ka. My old friend and podcast co-host Jayson Buford from music blogs such as Pitchfork, GQ, Rolling Stone and the Knicks blog Posting and Toasting joined me to discuss all things Sixers, Eastern Conference and Knicks. We discussed the first game of the Sixers-Knicks home and home series and why the new look Sixers are going to be extremely hard to stop. We tried to figure out if Harden and Embiid are the best duo in the NBA right now and the results might surprise you!! Other topics included: Maxey thriving and Tobias struggling to adapt, the Sixers pursuit of an extremely washed Deandre Jordan, the real contenders and pretenders in the Eastern Conference and a slight rant on the media coverage of the below average Lakers. To end the episode, Jayson told me why he is out on Thibs as a coach and we discussed the possibility of Zion Williamson heading to the Knicks. SUBSCRIBE TO YOU KNOW BALL ON YOUTUBE HERE! Tyler the Creator's sixth album "Call Me if you Get Lost" is his most comprehensive yet, with a wide array of sounds marking his best production work yet. His rhymes encompass his career and turn personal, looking back at Yonkers, his sound shift on Cherry Bomb and marking the achievement of IGOR winning the best rap song Grammy. Tyler turns back toward a more traditional rap album, showing off his drastically improved rapping and featuring a solid choice of contributors with Lil Wayne the most impressive among them. Bobby Manning and Jayson Buford discuss the release on Dome Theory. Mirin Fader talks about here book "GIANNIS" coming on August 10 with Giannis Antetokounmpo 8 wins away from his NBA championship off the biggest win of his life. Giannis' life began in poverty in Greece, the son of immigrants from Nigeria who struggled to become citizens, find jobs and opportunity in basketball. The Antetokounmpos changed their name, hustled for food and grew enough to draw the interest of basketball coaches in lower leagues. Eventually the NBA found him and questioned his upside, with some staying away before the Milwaukee Bucks committed at No. 15 in the 2013 NBA Draft and got the benefit of a late growth spurt to 7 feet. Giannis exploded and put on more weight within a few years to become a staggering force comparable to Shaquille O'Neal. He's become a different mold of a star in today's NBA, without the AAU friendships and committing to Milwaukee for a second contract instead of bolting to Miami, Toronto or Dallas. Will it pay off with a title? The Bucks staggering execution, coaching and Giannis' shooting woes continue to raise doubts, as Mirin talks about his struggles and how she's following his greatest playoff run yet in the months before the book.  Pre-order here: https://www.amazon.com/Giannis-Improbable-Rise-NBA-MVP/dp/0306924129/ref=asc_df_0306924129/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=475795052141&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=9320098082948782556&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9001937&hvtargid=pla-1086464996329&psc=1
