On this episode of CD Burners, the guys are deep diving into Neck Deep's sophomore album, Life's Not Out To Get You. Produced by Andrew Wade & A Day To Remember's Jeremy McKinnon, this album set out to be the "bigger and better" version of their debut album with stronger vocals and undeniable pop punk roots throughout.
On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by HARDY. Growing up in the small town of Philadelphia, Mississippi, HARDY was introduced to heavy music in high school. Soon, he fell in love with nü metal and metalcore, including System of a Down, Linkin Park, and August Burns Red. It's all culminated in an overlap of country and hardcore within his own music, where HARDY has scratched out a unique space. His 2023 album, the mockingbird & THE CROW, was split into two halves — country and hard rock — the latter featuring a collaboration with A Day to Remember's Jeremy McKinnon. Since then, it's hit No. 1 on the Top Country Albums, Top Rock Albums, and Top Hard Rock Albums charts and rose to No. 4 on the Billboard 200. Listen to their conversation on Artist Friendly wherever you listen to podcasts. HARDY is my latest Talkin' Rock guest. You might be saying to yourself, isn't he a country guy? Well, you're half right. His latest album has a lot of rock influence, including a guest appearance from Jeremy McKinnon on a shredder called "Radio Song". How was that collaboration born? "Dude, I just slide into the DMs...haha" He went onto tell me it was a simple as that. "I've got a song I'd love for you to hear...I sent it over and the rest is history." Personally, 'the mockingbird & The Crow' is one of my favorite albums of the year. We talked about the country/rock elements of the stuff he'd written. He explained to me how that idea of the split record was developed. How about meeting some of his rock heroes from his high school days. "Growing up a big rock n roll guy, it's crazy to become friends with some of the guys I grew up listening to." He talked about his "overnight" success, that took 8 years. "Man, I was grinding for a long time." The single "Jack" was a #1 song on rock radio. "I still can't believe that I have one." He explained the song as well. Yes, it's a song about Jack, but much more. He also has a resemblance to Detroit's own Kid Rock. Rock fed me a couple things to ask him.....he told me a funny story about a trip to Thailand. You Me at Six's Josh Franceschi, Lynn Gunn of PVRIS, Cody Frost and A Day to Remember's Jeremy McKinnon discuss getting protective over their own original ideas, writing with people from different styles and genres, releasing music at 4am in the morning, and the importance of liking your own music. Josh Franceschi founded You Me at Six in 2006 with a group of school friends, and since then they've released seven studio albums of pop-punk and rock. Their most recent album SUCKAPUNCH reached number 1 in the UK album charts back in 2021 and sees them introducing dance, R&B and hip-hop elements into their sound. Lynn Gunn is the vocalist and multi-instrumentalist from the band Pvris. After releasing their hugely successful debut album White Noise in 2014, her band have continued to prove they're one of the most innovative groups in rock right now, blending explosive, rhythm-driven rock music with atmospheric electro-pop. Jeremy McKinnon is the singer, producer and frontman of A Day to Remember. He's been releasing his incredible fusion of metalcore and pop-punk music since 2004 and has also lent his production skills to some of the best bands in the scene, including The Devil Wears Prada and Neck Deep. Cody Frost is a young singer-songwriter and tattoo artist who makes maximalist electro-pop-punk music. She started out uploading covers to YouTube after teaching herself piano and guitar, and her debut mixtape TEETH was released in 2022. She's also recently been collaborating with You Me at Six.

The Sixers embarrass themselves and need some serious changes, the Conference Finals should be fun though. Well Faze is still way better than everyone else in the CDL, I have hope for when fans come back though. Don't give up yet, Isles. Vegas, for the sake of hockey you need to win this series. The umps took a very necessary rule and used it to make everything about them. Intro Song: Shut Up by Simple Plan Outro Song: Take Over by Jeremy McKinnon, MAX and Henry Jake's Twitch Jon's Twitch
Jake and Jon make their NBA Finals predictions. Baseball continues to have more problems than the idiot who calls himself Commissioner can deal with. Jeremy McKinnon (A Day to Remember) lets us in on the creation and stories behind their long-awaited album 'You're Welcome' (out March 5th), writing with Jon Bellion, and his thoughts on the convergence of hip-hop and rock.
Adam Silver has been making some strange decisions, given his track record lately. Skip Bayless and Nick Wright have completely opposite views on LeBron James and both of them are dumb. Tom Brady got VERY drunk at the Super Bowl parade and it was hilarious. Why does Deshaun Watson only want to go to the Jets? LA Thieves look so much better than they did in the Kick-Off Classic. Dallas gets an easy win over massively inferior competition. This weekend's slate is really good, Sunday in particular. 100T's and C9's murderers' row of an LCS weekend compared to Liquid's cupcake games before Sunday. Jake and Jon kick off the new year with reactions to the weekend that was in both the NFL and College Football. The Football coaching carousel has begun and there's a few crazy storylines. The NBA season has begun and the Sixers are surprisingly good and not so surprisingly Kyrie's dumb quote about KD being the first time he could trust another guy to take a big shot was already proven totally wrong. What happens if some stadiums are letting more people in then others during the home stretch of the season and playoffs? Sledgehammer is rumored to be lead dev on the next CoD game...GREAT. Intro and Outro Song: Take Over by Jeremy McKinnon, MAX and Henry Follow me on twitch
Riot's changes to the LCS seem pretty good but the changes to the NA Academy and amateur scene are INCREDIBLE. Gonzaga continues to kill themselves in OOC and fans are rewarded because of it. Rob Manfred finally gets something right...possibly just to distract people from the fact that he's killing baseball. 100Thieves vs Sentinels is an even better Valorant rivalry than Sentinels vs TSM. Cloud9 To the Skies should be a fun event. An idiot gets kicked from his team because he said something really dumb and sexist to a pro player. League of Legends Free Agency starts off absolutely insane and a lot of the craziness is on the homefront. Three big NFL storylines that will probably carry for a few more weeks. The UMG First Strike Qualifier field is set and despite the obvious favorites, I still think there could be a few upsets. CDL players are MAD and they're probably going to form a players' union. The NBA's delayed off-season is just as insane as ever. The NHL reveals every team's retro reverse jersey, most of them are at least decent if not amazing. A few of them on the other hand... Follow Me On Twitch Intro Song: Take Over by Jeremy McKinnon, MAX, Henry Outro Song: NHL on NBC theme.
One last match to crown a League World Champion and a whole lot of storylines are involved in this one. On the NA front, Jensen gets PAID. The Dodgers are World Series Champions but the main story is once again about people in baseball being dumb. Not to be outdone Riot's other game puts on a show in the build up to their first official event. Follow me on twitch Intro and Outro Song: Take Over by Jeremy McKinnon, MAX and Henry
Team Liquid gives NA fans a glimmer of hope before they very likely smash it into a million pieces. What does NA have to do to make sure this doesn't happen at Worlds anymore. The NFL picture is stating to clear up, at least at the bottom of the league. College football gets more insane by the week. NRG throws their hat into the Valorant ring, and Riot adds a great looking new map. Brandman Speaks sat down with Jeremy McKinnon to talk about some of the challenges facing transitioning veterans today. Jeremy shares his experiences after returning from duty and beginning the next chapter of life as a student. His determination to help fellow veterans has lead him to establish several veterans support groups and programs while he worked through his own transition. Jeremy McKinnon was born in the San Francisco Bay Area. Joining the Marine Corps at nineteen years old he served fourteen months in Fallujah Iraq during 2008/2009 as Personal Security for the command of Multi-National Forces West (MNF-W). Then serving in Afghanistan during 2010 he was part of the Nato Training Coalition at Camp Sha'heen as a military instructor to the Afghani Army troops. Honorably discharged in November 2010, McKinnon has traversed different schools/cities of California and currently resides in Huntington Beach attending Brandman University Irvine Campus. Working as an Intern at the Veterans Legal Institute (Public interest law firm for Veteran issues) he is looking to attend law school after completing his BA in sociology with Brandman. Former President of the Veterans Group at Orange Coast College, McKinnon is hoping to create efficiency in the communication/interaction between transitioning veterans and the Veteran Service Organizations.
This week Brian talks with Jeremy McKinnon from Florida's A Day To Remember. Their new record "Homesick" is out now on Victory Records
