The motto of Hollywood these days seems to be: if you can't create something new and original, then just make it louder and longer. On this week's show, Dan Webster, Nathan Weinbender, and Mary Pat Treuthart will be discussing two films that fit the bill perfectly. First up is “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” followed by “John Wick: Chapter Four.”
The kevlar-suited master assassin returns for his fourth (and possibly) final film. Yes Keanu Reeves has once again returned as the titular John Wick, this time on a mission to seek out his freedom by taking on the "High Table." He's a man on the run with very few options......but at least he has some necessary allies returning this time as well, once again played by Laurence Fishburne, Ian McShane, and the late, great Lance Reddick. He also has a new villain in his sights who's determined to take him out played by Bill Skarsgard along with a new physical adversary played by the legendary Donnie Yen. What results are even more locations and more crazy set-pieces this time around.....once again directed by former stuntman Chad Stahelski. Yeah I'm thinking he's back! ;) Host: Geoff Gershon Editors: Geoff and Ella GershonProducer: Marlene Gershonhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Time to play some catch-up and discuss all things comics and geek related! Chris, Shane and Ian start us off with news on Ike Perlmutter's removal from Marvel after more than thirty years. They then discuss some recent movies watched, including Chris and Ian's thoughts on John Wick Chapter Four, Ian's journey into Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, and Shane getting his first viewing of Everything, Everywhere All at Once. The meat of the episode is a spoiler-filled review of Shazam: Fury of the Gods (37:15-1:08:00), followed by spoilery discussion of Picard (through episode 4) with some occasional very light spoilers for Star Trek: Discovery and its universe (1:08:00-1:32:00). And then, as we begin talking comics read...MURD COMETH!!! Once arrived, he gives his thoughts on the Shazam: Fury of the Gods movie from 1:40:58 until about 1:55:00. Recent reads include Shane's return to Crisis on Infinite Earths, Murd talks Wolverine: Origins from back in the day, Justice League: Detroit's turn at JLA: Classified and Brian K. Vaughn's The Escapsists, Ian digs into Jason Aaron's Avengers: Forever and Dawn of DC's Action Comics and Superman #1, and Chris delves into Danger Street, Gotham City: Year One, Volume 1 of Rainbow Rowell's She-Hulk, and Flashpoint Beyond. Bullets, nunchucks, screeching tires, flaming ammunition, and samurai swords. They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions, so why wouldn't the road to heaven be smeared with blood? This week, Cole and Zach return to discuss the good (Pacifiction), the bad (Shazam: Fury of the Gods), and the surprisingly decent (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves) before breaking into a discussion of the biggest action movie since MI: Fallout (or arguably Fury Road). Join us as we discuss John Wick's mythic quest for vengeance and debate the series' placement in action Valhalla.
On this episode Matt and Jon recount the insanity of John Wick Chapter Four, the significantly less crazy Shazam: Fury of the Gods, Yellowjackets' season two premiere, the beginning of the end of Riverdale, the season finales of South Park & Star Wars: The Bad Batch, The Mandalorian, Matt catches up on Perry Mason, Jon finishes the Daevabad Trilogy and more! This week on The Treatment, Elvis welcomes Oscar winning songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, whose newest project is the Hulu musical series “Up Here.” Next, director Chad Stahelski joins to talk about the fourth and final chapter in the John Wick franchise, “John Wick: Chapter Four.” And on The Treat, “The Banshees of Inisherin” director Martin McDonagh talks about the film that first showed him what a director does.
James Cameron-Wilson takes Simon Rose through the UK box office chart, which has picked up thanks to the arrival of John Wick: Chapter Four at #1. Almost 3 hours long, James though it assassin porn, repetitive and exhausting. He found 80 for Brady (#8) a major embarrassment for Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno & Sally Field. He adored Zach Braff's A Good Person with Florence Pugh and Morgan Freeman but it only debuted at #18. Fans of Life of Brian should note a re-release on April 7. Learn more about your ad choices. On this week's podcast join Dan and Ethan as they dive deep into their love of the coolest films around, the John Wick series. If you've never seen a John Wick film worry not as we give a quick breakdown of everything you need to know to bring you up to speed. But if you want to jump right into our full discussion, here's a quick back-of-the-box blurb to get you prepped: John Wick, also known as The Baba Yaga, is a retired assassin played by Keanu Reeves, who, after his dog is killed by criminals, returns to the world of assassination to enact revenge, getting caught up in the machinations of the mysterious High Table. This has been going on for 4 films now. Once The Baba Yaga sets his mind to something, he doesn't stop. We talk all things Wick in this week's podcast; our favorite kills and set pieces, ranging from a kneck-breaking book to the world's most casual shootout (feat. Common), to a discussion on the awesomeness of character names throughout the series, and why John Wick: Chapter Three - Parabellum is the only film in the series to have an admittedly dope title. We also chat about the power of neon lighting, dive into the brilliant, over-the-top world-building of the films, including The Continental hotel, and remember the once-in-a-lifetime talent that was Lance Reddick. And if you want to know all the non-spoilery details about this week's John Wick: Chapter Four, first, make sure to check out Dan's review right here on the site tomorrow, then listen in as he tries to explain the sheer coolness of this newest entry, and why not only is it his favorite film in the series, but maybe his new favorite action film. There's all that and more on this week's pod covering all things John Wick.
In preparation of John Wick - Chapter Four releasing this weekend, Gaius and Jackson are looking at the franchise's influence on contemporary action cinema since its beginnings in 2014. Gaius and Jackson aren't alone in this endeavor as fellow Back To The Blockbuster founder Owen Erickson hops over from the BTTB Presents spinoff to record his first episode with Jackson since he joined the team back in January. In addition to the John Wick talk, the trio cover Quentin Tarantino finally setting up his 10th and final film as a director, the dismal box office start for Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Barry Keoghan and Denzel Washington being in talks for Gladiator 2. Follow Us Instagram Follow Us On Twitter Like Us On Facebook Follow Us On TikTok

Those despairing at John Wick Chapter Four being delayed need not count down until March 2023. David Leitch, the director of Deadpool 2 and producer of the original John Wick, presents Bullet Train, which hit UK cinemas on 3rd August 2022. For once, the summer's big blockbuster isn't a superhero film, a sequel or a remake! It's a slick and high octane film with more-or-less all of the action condensed into the setting of a high speed train in Tokyo. Is it not just a John Wick copycat? So how is it any different?
