In this high-octane season finale, Bob and Brad return to 2014's John Wick, a film that redefined modern action movies and catapulted Keanu Reeves back into superstardom. They break down Chad Stahelski's slick, violent, and surprisingly economical revenge thriller and ask the question: does John Wick deserve to be considered a modern classic, or is it all style and no substance?Alongside the mayhem, Bob and Brad sip on Heaven's Door Revival Tennessee bourbon, an expression from Bob Dylan's award-winning whiskey label. With its smooth Tennessee profile and appropriately themed name, does this bourbon live up to the hype—or does it get lost in the shuffle like one of Wick's countless on-screen foes?(0:00) Intro(07:41) Brad Explains(11:05) Performances, Themes(31:41) Heaven's Door Revival Tennessee bourbon review(40:30) Two Facts and a Falsehood(45:39) Final Analysis(55:38) Let's Make it a Double and Final ScoresSave on your bottle of Blackwood (use code FILMWHISKEY)Film & Whiskey InstagramFilm & Whiskey FacebookFilm & Whiskey TwitterEmail us!Join our Discord server! For more episodes and engaging content, visit Film & Whiskey's website at www.filmwhiskey.com.

Last week, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’s Board of Governors announced it would add a new category to its awards ceremony starting 2028– Achievement in Stunt Design. This serves as a major win for the many stuntmen and stuntwomen who’ve lobbied for such an award, with their line of work having existed since the inception of film. Although stunts from the likes of Buster Keaton won’t ever be able to win such an award, there are plenty of recent films that have drawn crowds for their stunts. Whether it be the Mission Impossible or John Wick films, well-designed action sequences have kept moviegoers’ attention, which makes rewarding their stunt designers a great decision as we inch closer to the 100th annual Academy Awards. For this week’s FilmWeek feature, Larry and this week’s critics discuss this news with filmmaker and longtime stuntman, Chad Stahelski. Executing a fight scene requires a lot of attention to detail, but spending time to get the right fight choreographer and stunt doubles to execute their vision can make for a rewarding watch. In the case of stuntman-turned-director Chad Stahelski, his directorial debut John Wick helped spark a franchise that moviegoers love due to its well-choreographed action. Although the series has become a common example of great fighting, there’s a whole host of other examples that date back decades. Hong Kong action cinema has given so much to the action genre, having helped popularize high-speed martial arts fighting for international audiences; through this style of filmmaking, audiences were introduced to filmmaker John Woo and actor Jackie Chan.
The Headlines: "Divorce Dust" TikTok Trend Is Taking Over – Read more Trader Joe’s Is Turning Their Most Popular Treat Into A Beer – Read more A "John Wick" Experience Is Now Open In Las Vegas – Read more "Divorce Dust" TikTok Trend Is Taking Over A new TikTok trend called "Divorce Dust" has women covering themselves in glitter before going on dates — and it’s exactly as messy as it sounds. The idea behind it? If a man is married or in a relationship and gets intimate with someone covered in glitter, the evidence will likely transfer back home, raising suspicion with his partner. Women are intentionally using glitter on their bodies and clothes, hoping to leave a "glitter trail" that could expose cheating. Some TikTokers are calling it genius, while others think it’s messy and over-the-top. Either way, the glitter trend is gaining traction fast — and might just be the sparkly downfall of some unfaithful partners.

fWotD Episode 2855: John Wick (film) Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia’s finest articles. The featured article for Thursday, 27 February 2025 is John Wick (film).John Wick is a 2014 American action thriller film directed by Chad Stahelski and written by Derek Kolstad. Keanu Reeves stars as John Wick, a legendary hitman who comes out of retirement to seek revenge against the men who killed his dog, a final gift from his recently deceased wife. The film also stars Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen, Adrianne Palicki, Bridget Moynahan, Dean Winters, Ian McShane, John Leguizamo, and Willem Dafoe.Kolstad's script drew on his interest in action, revenge, and neo noir films. The producer Basil Iwanyk purchased the rights as his first independent film production. Reeves, whose career was declining, liked the script and recommended that the experienced stunt choreographers Stahelski and David Leitch direct the action scenes; Stahelski and Leitch successfully lobbied to co-direct the project. Principal photography began in October 2013, on a $20–$30 million budget, and concluded that December. Stahelski and Leitch focused on long, highly choreographed single takes to convey action, eschewing the rapid cuts and closeup shots of contemporary action films.Iwanyk struggled to secure theatrical distributors because industry executives were dismissive of an action film by first-time directors, and Reeves's recent films had financially underperformed. Lionsgate Films purchased the distribution rights to the film two months before its release date on October 24, 2014. Following a successful marketing campaign that changed its perception from disposable entertainment to a prestige event helmed by an affable leading actor, John Wick exceeded box-office projections and became a modest success, grossing $86 million worldwide. It received generally positive reviews for its style and its action sequences. Critics hailed John Wick as a comeback for Reeves, in a role that played to his acting strengths. The film's mythology of a criminal underworld with rituals and rules was praised as its most distinctive and interesting feature.John Wick began a successful franchise which includes three sequels (John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017), John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019), and John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)), the prequel television series The Continental (2023), and the spin-off film Ballerina (2025), as well as video games and comic books. It is seen as having revitalized the action genre and popularized long single takes with choreographed, detailed action. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:56 UTC on Thursday, 27 February 2025.For the full current version of the article, see John Wick (film) on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm generative Stephen.

We're getting 2025 off to a stellar start with one of the greats of the writing world! Author Jonathan Maberry is a NYT bestseller and 5-time Bram Stoker Award winner. He's the creator of the Pine Deep Trilogy, V-Wars, Rot and Ruin and of course, the Joe Ledger series among many others. In our first episode of the new year, Jonathan talks about “Burn to Shine,” the 14th book in the Joe Ledger series. In this book, a covert group is infiltrating the world's most secure bio-weapons research sites. All across the country, people are acting as human ‘disease bombs' by infecting themselves and walking into public places. And heavily-armed groups of illegal private soldiers are massing for some unknown strike. Old enemies are rising and joining forces to hit Joe and his team with one devastating blow after another. What is the end game for all of this madness and terror? Outnumbered, outmaneuvered, and outgunned, Joe Ledger has to find a way back from the fires of grief in order to make a stand between these enemies and millions of potential innocent lives. But Joe has allies, too. His team, the vicious fighters of Arklight, and friends who may or may not be entirely human. Sounds pretty cool, doesn't it? Jonathan, Curtis and Max talk all about the new book, the fights awaiting RTI and some callbacks to characters in past books. Jonathan also talks about Joe Ledger, what defines this character, and how his trauma over the years has shaped him. We learn what keeps in the fight and why after all these years, he has no plans to back down. We also talk about the big news that the Joe Ledger series has been optioned by Chad Stahelski, director of the John Wick movies to be optioned for TV development. Jonathan talks about how he and Chad met and the process of working together. We dive into potential actors to play Joe and where we are at in the production process. “Rot and Ruin,” his young adult zombie series, is in advanced development by Alcon Entertainment and we go into how that has come along. After all these years, working in novels, comics, and much more, one would think that Jonathan Maberry has done it all, and we ask about his “Mount Everest” accomplishments and what else he wants to do in his career.
We're celebrating John-uary with a puppy-avenging assassin who's also the emotional victim of car theft. Keanu Reaves has to return to a luxury murder hotel to drop some gold coins (Chuck E. Cheese-style) again. Keanu called his favorite stunt guys, David Leitch and Chad Stahelski, who say they'll only do the stunts if they can also direct for the first time. You know what all that makes? A game-changing new era of Great Bad Movies. Keanu Reeves delivers the most emotionally devastating "Yeah" in cinema history, and funniest line in this movie is “Oh.” Twice. So it's time to start Dafoe-ing and check in with Joe and Greg, who have the conversation that needed to happen about a movie that slowly but thoroughly changed the lives of everyone in the GBU (Great Bad Universe.) They ask the important questions, create unique drinking games… Basically everything you'd need to live a better life. John Wick: Golpe a golpe, verso a verso. In a world where IP is a plenty, we seem to be getting more of the same? Or is it the opposite? Depends on who you ask...Anyway, we've got more time with Star Wars Outlaws, and despite what the internet says, its not bad. Capcom is facing a crisis, buts its not a dino crisis... Eon is looking for the next director for 007, Burton shys away from Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beettlejuice, Ian McKellan is in for a 3rd time as Gandalf! Plus go watch The Fall Guy!
Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes. The untitled Vision series that was formerly known as VisionQuest, got a significant update this week with James Spader announced to be returning as Ultron. Little else is still known about the series, beyond the fact that it is the second of two WandaVision spinoffs on the way and that Star Trek Picard's Terry Matalas joined the series as showrunner earlier this year. The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, the upcoming animated feature film, has been a longstanding and recurring inhabitant of our news docket and conversations, but we were finally treated to our first significant look via the official trailer released by Warner Bros last week. In addition to having the animation showcased, we got our first inklings of the story and characters, with a botched marriage proposal serving as the backdrop for the conflict. Whether you're for, against, or undecided when it comes to Robert Downey, Jr's casting as Doctor Doom for the MCU, there's no denying that the move has catapulted the cinematic universe back to the pinnacle of the zeitgeist and surrounding conversation. The actor had been quiet save for the four words he uttered at San Diego Comic Con, “New mask, same task;” until last Tuesday's episode of the Award Chatter podcast from The Hollywood Reporter, where he shared insights into Bob Iger and Kevin Fiege's direct involvement into the decision, with the latter expressing a desire to, quote, “Get Victor Von Doom right.” Elsewhere, this week's episode of The Official Marvel Podcast shared a slew of comments from cast members of the MCU's other upcoming films, including Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts* and Fantastic Four: First Steps. Ted Lasso, Apple TV +'s celebrated sports comedy, has made major moves toward finally kicking off a long awaited fourth season we learned via a Deadline exclusive. The shows original three season run, which concluded more than a year ago and garnered 13 Emmy wins, left the door open for the future, but that was left largely in the hands of star Jason Sudeikis, who originated the character on Saturday Night Live shorts. Now, Warner Bros Television, the studio for the series, has picked up options for three original cast members, Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift, with more expected to be announced soon. RUMOR: Scooper Daniel Richtman is claiming that a fourth Spider-Man film will indeed feature a multiversal story and should start filming next year. A24 has released the first trailer for disaster comedy film Y2K which stars Rachel Zegler. Saturday Night Live standout Kyle Mooney will direct and it hits theaters Dec. 6. Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is attached to star in Loose Cannons, an action comedy that is in the process of being set up at Lionsgate. In an interview with Variety, Tatum admitted that he still wants to make a standalone Gambit movie, adding: “I've been saying I want it for the last 10 years. It's in Bob Iger and Kevin Feige's hands. I pray to God.”

From Chile to Mexico to Hollywood - and back again - Marko Zaror's incredible rise in the action world reached a new crescendo in 2023. Known as the 'Latin Dragon', Marko's scene-stealing performance as the main heavy, Chidi, in Chad Stahelski's masterpiece, 'John Wick: Chapter 4', saw him duel on-screen with fight legends Hiroyuki Sanada, Donnie Yen and Keanu Reeves; meanwhile, back in his home country of Chile, he reunited with his childhood friend - the filmmaker Ernesto Díaz Espinoza - to produce and star in their fifth indie action film together, the deeply personal 'The Fist of the Condor'. Now capable of shifting between key roles in huge productions and making his own movies the way he wants them to be made, Zaror has reached a sweet-spot in his career - but it has not been an easy journey with plenty of bumps along the way. At one point, he even considered retiring from the film industry altogether, and training to become a professional MMA fighter, until a timely conversation with Robert Rodriguez convinced him otherwise. He has since gone on to work with Rodriguez in many film and TV projects, including 'Machete Kills', 'From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series', and 'Alita: Battle Angel'. In this conversation, Marko explores his roots as a Bruce Lee-obsessed kid in Chile with a dream of making it in the movies, to eventually ripping up the screen in one of the biggest - and best - action franchises in Hollywood history.LINKSMarko Zaror on IMDb: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1047252/Marko Zaror on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/markozaror/Marko Zaror on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/markozaroroficialMarko Zaror profile on Kung Fu Movie Guide: https://bit.ly/ProfileMarkoZaror'Fist of the Condor' trailer: https://youtu.be/x53EpE12AsY'Fist of the Condor' review on Kung Fu Movie Guide: https://bit.ly/FistOfTheCondor2023'John Wick: Chapter 4' review on Kung Fu Movie Guide: https://bit.ly/JohnWickChapter4KFMG'Kiltro' review on Kung Fu Movie Guide: https://bit.ly/Kiltro2006Our not-so-comprehensive list of fight-centric action films released in 2023: https://bit.ly/KFMGPodEOYShow2023PartOneSPONSORThis episode is sponsored by 'Five Deadly Rebels', a kung fu sci-fi scripted podcast from DimensionGate, available now on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts and anywhere you get your podcasts. "John Wick: Chapter 4" is the culmination of years of hard work, creative ambition, and four exhilarating films that gave audiences an iconic new action movie character worth rooting for. The fourth installment of the franchise, started by director Chad Stahelski and star Keanu Reeves in 2014, has gone on to achieve the highest critical and financial success for the franchise, leaving audiences clamoring for more as the talents behind the scenes pushed the action film genre to new heights they had never seen before. Director Chad Stahelski, cinematographer Dan Laustsen, and supervising sound editor Mark Stoeckinger were all kind enough to lend their insight into the making of such a beloved and challenging technical film where the stunts, camera work, and sound are all operating at the highest level. It's literally one of the finest action films ever crafted and is even making a case for why stunts should finally be honored at the Oscars. Please take a moment to listen to these interviews and check out the film, which is up for your consideration in all eligible categories for this year's Academy Awards. Thank you, and enjoy! “I'm now at a place where I say to myself, ‘What haven't we seen?' And then we take it to a place that's completely, absolutely bonkers,” says writer Kirk Ward about his new show The Continental: From The World Of John Wick. “You take the audience down the road of a trope and then turn. That's the joy of collaboration and creativity for me.” The Continental is a disco noire three-part miniseries that tells the origin story of The Continental Hotel from the famed John Wick universe. In my discussion with Ward and director Albert Hughes, we talk about creating The Continental Hotel as a character in the show, writing a totally unhinged role for Mel Gibson and depicting the High Table in the most unexpected way – even though they were told not to go there. “Chad [Stahelski, the director of the John Wick films] said, ‘Whatever you do, don't reveal the High Table. Do not come up with your own impression of what the High Table is.' Well, I don't know what it is. So, we had to really lean into the mysterious elements of this show for that,” says Hughes. To learn more secrets about The Continental, take a listen to the podcast. The three-part show is currently streaming on Peacock and is a must-see for every John Wick fan.
In a decisive move, Marvel Studios has already put together a new creative team for Daredevil: Born Again. Dario Scardapane of Netflix's The Punisher and Amazon's Jack Ryan is officially the showrunner while Moon Knight and Loki season two co-directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorehead are stepping up to take charge of the remaining episodes of Daredevil. The show will be an amalgamation of previously shot scenes and episodes as well as new content written by Scardapane. Previous directors Chris Ord and Matt Corman will stay on as executive producers. While in the past we were told the show would have 19 episodes, that now seems unclear according to The Hollywood Reporter. In a guerrilla marketing move, the official Loki Instagram account became a blank slate following this week's fourth episode of the second season. The menacing Miss Minutes has taken over the account in the meantime with only one post: a short video of her telling us how it is on an inactive TemPad…and that means access is denied! There's also a mid-season trailer out and spoilers ABOUND. The internet might truly melt down with the announcement that Henry Cavill is set to play the legendary sword-wielding Scot in the Lionsgate Highlander reboot. John Wick director Chad Stahelski will be the man behind the camera for the film and Mike Finch has penned the current screenplay draft. Though just off his final season of The Witcher, Cavill has been working at a breakneck pace with Argylle and two Guy Ritchie projects currently in post-production. Universal and Blumhouse's Five Nights at Freddy's opened to a record-smashing $78 million dollars domestically and $131 million dollars worldwide, despite debuting simultaneously on sister streaming service Peacock. This is the biggest horror opening of 2023 to date, besting Scream VI. The upcoming three Doctor Who specials, which will feature the return of David Tennant as the Doctor and Catherine Tate as Donna Temple-Noblewill roll out over three weeks beginning Nov. 25 — two days after the actual 60th anniversary of Doctor Who‘s first ever episode. The specials will stream on Disney+ worldwide with the exception of the U.K. and Ireland, where they'll air on the BBC. Disney+ has also released a new trailer for the specials. A New York judge has ruled that actor Jonathan Majors must face trial on domestic abuse charges begining on November 29th. It was also revealed that the defense has filed a new motion under seal that seeks to keep details related to an undisclosed “evidentiary matter” shielded from public view. Apple TV+ is upping its price from the previous monthly fee of $6.99 to a now standard rate of $9.99. Director David Yates has given an update on the Fantastic Beasts Harry Potter spin off franchise, which halted after three of its five planned films were released. Quote: “With Beasts for a minute, it's all just parked,” Yates told the Inside Total Film podcast. “We got to the end of the third film and we're all so proud of that movie, and when it went out into the world, we just needed to sort of stop and pause, and take it easy.” Last week, Disney announced it is delaying the release of its live-action Snow White movie starring Rachel Zegler by a year to March of 2025 and released a first image of Snow White and the seven dwarves. Pixar's Elio has also been pushed back by more than a year to June of 2025. Disney and Searchlight have also removed Magazine Dreams starring Jonathan Majors from the December 2023 calendar most likely due to Major's legal situation. Netflix has announced a new adult animation limited series Carol & The End of the World which stars Martha Kelly as a woman facing the apocalypse. The series was created by Rick and Morty and Community writer Dan Guterman.
