Columbia University grad student Mahmoud Khalil is considered a leader in anti-Israel protests on campus. ICE arrested him on Saturday and revoked his green card. Activists are calling this an attack on free speech. On Friday, several Native American tribes sued the federal government over staff cuts at Native colleges. They claim the cuts violate the government’s unique legal and moral responsibility to the tribes. U.K. natives Ned Franc and Jon Moody blend soul songwriting with analog synthesizers and disco grooves to produce dancefloor euphoria. Their fourth album is “Chewing the Fat.” The cheap American egg was the product of billions of dollars of investment in industrial agriculture. Now those technologies are spreading bird flu — and hiking egg prices.
Our guests today are the brilliant British electronic music duo Franc Moody. Composed of Jon Moody and Ned Franc, the pair has carved out a unique niche in the world of soulful disco grooves and textured electronic music, blending influences from artists like LCD Soundsystem, Daft Punk, and Jamiroquai. With their third studio album, Chewing the Fat, dropping this Friday, they bring a grittier, more analog-inspired and textured approach to their sound. In today's episode, we chat with Jon and Ned about this shift in style, how they brought the new sound to life, and the experience of recording in a studio rented from Damon Albarn of Blur, complete with access to his legendary synth collection. Plus, we also touch on the freedom of translating electronic music into a live setting and which tracks they're most excited to play on tour.Franc Moody : Instagram / Spotify Purchase Chewing the Fat and find Franc Moody on tour here.Visit our official website here and follow us across our socials.
I'm back home in the Chi with this special three-part series of in-person interviews I conducted LIVE on the couch at Lollapalooza in Chicago's Grant Park, August 3-6. Kicking off with Part 1 is the hyper-talented and supremely energetic duo Ned Franc and Jon Moody, the British frontmen of Franc Moody who talk to me about their high-octane sets and their origins as a hardworking DIY outfit operating out of a Tottenham warehouse near London. Second up is festival rookie playing his first big stage outing, Pardyalone, (born Kalvin Tyler Beal), who is as genuine and empathetic as they come. His humble beginnings in Minnesota have given him a unique songwriting perspective -- Kalvin constantly seeks the Truth in all he does. He talks to me about life, performance and his recurring teeth-dreams -- and we explore together just what it means to dig deep and "get uncomfortable."In the three-slot is Jeffrey Paradise of Poolside, who talks to me about the creative process for his upcoming album, Blame It All on Love, and how it was marred by a bizarre and tragic event. Jeff has been mixing up genres for years and he talks to me about how Poolside is a wonderful reflection of going against the grain -- in all parts of his life.To round out this Lollapalooza episode, Festival rookie, Aidan Bissett sits down with me just after he delivers his very first festival performance ever, and the stoke is high. Just 20 years-old, Aidan possesses a maturity and self-awareness well beyond his years and I talk to him about his perceived need to "move fast," and how that is affecting him in his young life. Aidan is headed out on his first headlining tour this Fall. Before their debut set at Lollapalooza on August 3, Ned Franc and Jon Moody of UK electronic duo Franc Moody met backstage with Vocalo afternoons host Nudia Hernandez to discuss their live performance and their multifaceted sound. They also talked performing with the live band rather than a DJ track, and experimenting with household objects to create new sounds for their upcoming album. This interview was conducted by Nudia Hernandez. It was edited and produced by Morgan Ciocca. To keep up with Franc Moody, follow them on Instagram @francmoody.
"Franc Moody" is an electronic/dance/funk duo made up of Ned Franc and Jon Moody. The pair began their musical journey in separate bands, often playing what they call "Swamp Pop", a big-band style fusion of traditional rhythm and blues and country. They would play this music together with a collective of other musicians in a warehouse venue they dubbed "The Arch", where late nights and a rave-like atmosphere were common. From those early days, Ned and Jon decided to join forces, crafting their own unique sound of uplifting, dance orientated disco vibes.Join Jay and Jesse as they discuss the music and creative approaches of London's "Franc Moody"."Roots to Grooves" is a production of SIGNL.https://www.signlradio.comhttps://www.instagram.com/signlradiohttps://www.twitter.com/signlradiohttps://www.facebook.com/signlradiohttps://www.mixcloud.com/signlhttps://open.spotify.com/user/96mhz6qfjoztxbl2dpm0uj903?si=aAZpsoEnRAKdx85kr1QWhg
