This week I had the pleasure of speaking with Melissa Owen, attorney/owner of Ambiente Legal, about the significant regulatory developments regarding chemical registration in Latin America, including Latin American Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) initiatives and the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS). We discuss Brazil REACH, which requires by law the government to have an implementing regulation issued by May 2025, Colombia REACH, also subject to a fast-approaching May 2025 deadline, and other Latin American REACH and GHS deadlines. We also discuss the August 2025 deadline in Chile for the notification of chemicals included in professional and consumer products, and much more regarding developments in countries south of our border. Show notes: On this episode I do an interview with Casey and Melissa Smith, the owners of the art store "Casey's Art Box". The shop is located out in Germantown, TN and combines retail space, gallery wall space, community gathering space, and Casey's art studio space. The dynamic duo are both former educators and have been together since the 1993 Cooper Young Festival. They've been married for almost 30 years. Casey Smith was born in Memphis and raised in Germantown. He has been creating art his whole life. His early years began at Ronnie Grisanti & Sons restaurant where he shared his love of murals. He spent 20 years teaching art to kindergarteners through high school seniors. Now Casey is ready to share his works and hopes to encourage other artists to go after their passion. Melissa Smith moved to Germantown at the beginning of her high school career at GHS. Not one to be far from her family, she attended Memphis State, but ended up graduating from the University of Memphis! While there she met and married Casey, being his number one visual art & music fan and (most importantly) best friend. After 27 years in elementary technology education, she is ready to encourage others to unleash their creative energies. The shop is open Mon-Sat, but are always standing by for any Sunday or after hours art emergencies that might arise! When you stop by be sure to ask about their customer loyalty program. I bought a few paint pens to try out.I also fill you in on some Mid-South Cartoonists Association news, including our upcoming art shows, zine deadline and monthly dinner gathering at Garibaldi's Pizza (April 1st), the MSCA Con Cards, and the Rogue's Gallery moving to Lootz Collectibles in Atoka for Free Comic Book Day.Plus I share some info on Comic Geek Speak's 20th anniversary celebration up in Reading, PA and recent Diamond acquisition by Alliance Entertainment. This week I dropped off a couple of my paintings for upcoming auctions/sales at Playhouse on the Square ("King Arthur/Spamalot") and Germantown Community Theatre ("Annie & Sandy"). Both were done in acrylics on canvas and for previous art shows at GCT. Proceeds to benefit the two theaters. I'll have new art to benefit my wallet at both theaters this year. Thanks to Casey and Melissa for talking toons with me. Is Alex Van Pelt gone after this year if they keep losing? Yes, says Keefe. Not shocked that they are 1-6, but all the losses feel a little different. Jones does not think Mayo is the guy.

For as long as anyone can remember, Goldsboro High School has struggled to have students achieve at their grade level or above. Currently, the high school is part of the state’s Restart program which gives low-performing schools more flexibility and resources to help struggling students. The alumni of GHS are taking this fight to help students thrive one step further by giving them incentives in the form of scholarships to continue their education past high school. They believe it’s their duty and their legacy to support the next generation. In this episode, we speak with Gary Packer, the national president of the Dillard/Goldsboro Alumni and Friends.

in the summer of 1992, 17 year old Angel Ormston had a really great life; a loving family, great friends, a decent job, and a secret. Actually, Angel had two secrets. See, 17 year old girls fall in love hard and fast, and sometimes, this makes them blind to people who are taking advantage of them. They were pretty much the standard for light gauge strings until Ernie Ball and D'Addario started eating up Fender's market share in the 1980s. I found out that the set was a strange gauge by modern standards (10,13,15,26,32,38) and that they were of different construction, having pure nickel wound strings, with round cores. Most modern wound strings are nickel-plated steel and on a hexagonal core. Fender stopped regular production of the set years ago, but I found that Pyramid made a "Jimi Hendrix" inspired set, that is to the exact specs of the old Fender set, and decided to try them. In the video, I start off with my regular D'Addario 9.5-44 set with nickel-plated steel/hex core wound strings, and then change strings on my 1967 Telecaster, and let you hear the difference.Gear for this video1967 Telecaster - D'Addario XL120+ 9.5-44 strings https://amzn.to/3a5qxViThen switch to the Pyramid set mentioned above1965 Deluxe Reverb with Celestion Vintage 30 speakerCorrection: There were 2 string factories in Battle Creek, MI. I dive into the three constant criticism camps that most fans or media seem to always pitch their tent under. I also bring up a pattern I'm seeing in life where no matter what you say or do, your side of the coin is never allowed to come up. Patty Ice earned his name and host Alex Lauzon cashed in as Patrick Cantlay repeated at the BMW Championship, putting himself in fine position to maybe repeat again with another FedEx Cup. Alex and co-host Michael Russell look at the rest of the firepower from the weekend, and who played themselves into the TOUR Championship (2:06). Before the golf started at Wilmington CC, Tiger Woods and the rest of the Tour's elites had a secret meeting where they discussed the game's future, including a new "tech-heavy series," which Alex and Michael wonder at what that means for the future (7:47). Those who were absent from the secret meeting included two international stars who are rumored to be headed to LIV, and who may be absent from the International Presidents Cup Team (10:14). As for the court battle brewing between the PGA Tour and the LIV golf stars, we're going to have a little while longer before they even enter the courtroom (11:20). The Tour rolls into East Lake for the TOUR Championship and the finale of the FedEx Cup, which includes the wacky staggered scoring system that is going to make placing bets for the weekend a little more difficult than usual (12:45). In Tuned In, Michael got to experience some unique cinema at the Macon Film Festival, while Alex is enjoying a Seinfeld connection on his favorite reality show, "The Bachelorette" (15:52). This week's guest is Jim Jeselnick, the Chairman of the Golf Heritage Society. Jim chats with Alex about his love for the game, how he got into the rich history of golf, and the exciting plans in store for the GHS's Hickory Open and annual conference (19:44).
