With all of our struggles in life we must hold on to the hope that is found in Jesus Christ. He is the way, the truth, the life. When all seems to be going wrong, reach out to Him and you will find the support and love you need to get through anything. Prepare your souls for Christmas Day as we get ready to celebrate Jesus' birth. We recognize the First Sunday of Advent where churches all over the world light the Candle of Hope. The Scripture is read from the Gospel of Luke, which includes the foretelling of the birth of John The Baptist. Luke 1: 5-25
The Sunday before an election is often a time of hope and anticipation. Is hope warranted? What would it mean for us to live in a world beyond or without hope.

Are we in the midst of a civilizational collapse? There are some definitive signs, says Margeret (Meg) Wheatly, who has spent a lifetime as an activist and educator seeking to create a more caring, compassionate, and connected world. In this podcast, Tami Simon speaks with the renowned organizational and systems expert about how she maintains faith in humanity and a tireless commitment to her life's work, even as she approaches 80 years old. I've been thinking about hope. Some people say it's the hope that kills you. Jack Antonoff from Bleachers recently said at a concert that finding the thing that gives you hope is your mission in life. Mad Max says it will make you insane. Today on the podcast, I wanted to deep dive into hope and reflect on my own state of thinking when it comes to this emotion that I believe is core to what it means to be human. We talk about why we struggle with hope, what creates it for us, and some ways we can remind ourselves to hold on and believe in ourselves and that things will work out when the going gets rough. Afghan migrant Bariz Shah is well known for his work in the community in the aftermath of the 2019 Christchurch terrorist attack, but his life has had some dark times. He speaks about his new memoir, Beyond Hope.
The Warm Hands of Ghosts by Katherine Arden. Set during WW1, Laura Iven is a nurse who returns from the battleground to her native Halifax, where her parents are suddenly killed by the massive explosion resulting from the collision of two ships in the harbour, one of which was carrying munitions for the war. This real event had an extraordinary and terrible impact on the town. When she receives word that her brother and only surviving family member, has been killed in the trenches, something doesn't add up and she heads back to Belgium as a volunteer at a private hospital. Soon after arriving she hears whispers about ghosts moving amongst the living, and a strange inn-keeper whose wine gives the soldiers the gift of oblivion. Could this have happened to Freddie, her brother – but if so, where is he? Beyond Hope by Bariz Shah. Memoir of an Afghani man who came to New Zealand as a child refugee, grew up struggling with a sense of not belonging and ended up with the wrong crowd and a stint in Auckland prison. Once he'd served his sentence he did an engineering degree and turned his life around, becoming a pillar of the Christchurch Muslim community and receiving a Civic Award from the City Council there after the 2019 attacks. This is a story of redemption – of finding belonging, a sense of home, and a real life purpose. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Proverbs 26:12 compares two people and says that one of them (wise in own eyes guy) has less chance of becoming righteously wise than the other (a fool), who has poor chances to begin with. Why is it so hard for them? How can we become more righteously wise?

Welcome to Grace in Focus radio. Today, Bob Wilkin and David Renfro are answering a question from a listener who sounds like he has lost hope. He thinks maybe he has sinned too much for God's grace. Do you know someone who is struggling this way? Well, David and Bob have a great answer for
Almost all of us can think of someone who we believe is beyond hope. Or a situation that is beyond hope. But not with Jesus. No one and nothing is beyond Hope when Jesus is involved. Mark 5:1-20
Does God grade on a curve based on how good you are relative to your peers?
Cat Stevens wrote the song, Wild World ages ago. "Oh baby baby it's a wild world It's hard to get by just upon a smile…" A smile is not enough but it sure helps after a break up, news of a layoff, 3rd quarter disappointing results, feeling rejected or misunderstood, or being persecuted for being a Christ follower. But is it enough? Distressed, tested by fire, an inexpressible joy. How do those go together? The mystery hangs on a confidence we have that resurrection is like a snow plow that forges a path ahead. What is impassable becomes a way forward. Where we might have been trapped in grief or great sadness or disappointment now becomes an image of Jesus, our inexpressible joy. Those 6 families that lost loved ones in Nashville are beyond our ability to comfort. But there must be an answer. There just has to be. A hope. A living hope. I bank my life on it. I Peter 1:1-9 leads the way forward for us.
No one, not one person, is hopelessly lost. Pastor Nat talks about the power of the Gospel and the Lord's ability to change lives! We often think of hope as short-term planning: What do you hope will happen in your upcoming job interview; your athletic competition; or you current dating relationship? But hope isn't the same as goal-setting. Hope offers us something greater; it is an invitation to a promise that is bigger than our own lives.

What if eco-grief is the portal we need to rediscover our role in the natural world, and in its healing? Jodi Lammiman is an eco-awareness counsellor and spiritual guide who connects our fears and sorrows to the work we've each been given ... to be in communion with the living Earth. Have things in your life ever seemed impossible? We are all capable of so much more than we think we are. I was tested for schizophrenia, and when things seemed impossible, I was shown I had a strength I had no idea was inside me. You have this too. We are all ordinary people capable of extraordinary things. I ended up successfully recovering from schizophrenia, and now I help people with mental illness in developing countries so they can get access to primary mental health care at www.MindAid.ca. Matthew Dickson bicycled across Canada at the age of 20, but shortly afterwards, he developed schizophrenia and was forced to alter the course of his life for many years to get through the disease. While working on his recovery in his home country of Canada, his heart went out to people with mental illness in developing countries who had it much worse than he did. After successfully recovering from schizophrenia, Matthew now helps people with mental illness in developing countries so they can get access to primary mental health care through his Mind Aid platform. 3 top tips for my audience: 1. “Unbeatable Mind” by Mark Divine, mindset secrets of Navy SEALs, SEALs are taught they are capable of 20x more than they think they are 2. “The Survivor Personality” by Al Siebert, how people survived the Holocaust, cancer, natural disasters, alcoholism and thrived afterwards 3. “Verbal Judo: The Gentle Art of Persuasion” by George Thompson, how police officers deal with people with words, not weapons Social media and contact info www.MindAid.ca https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCp2Qj2tKgfh9pt4OoLuuUuw https://www.facebook.com/mindaid1 https://www.linkedin.com/in/matthewjdickson https://twitter.com/MattMindAid https://www.instagram.com/matthewjdickson/ https://www.tiktok.com/@mattmindaid
