I'm super happy to have the delightful couple Jackie Berkley and Zach Schmidt of Golden Everything on the show this week!! Both lovely humans and talented artists with separate paths, Zach and Jackie recently formed an amazing alt-country super-duo, and are celebrating their successful debut album together, Sweet Old World, an absolute gorgeous take on folk, country and Americana vibes. I discuss with Zack and Jackie about how their choices have lead to a healthy outlook in what can be a crazy and difficult world we call the music business. With a new album and a new baby at home, this dynamic couple is making it all happen by building a strong and organic team from the ground up.  In celebration of  Earth Day, I'm excited to have classical pianist @hunternoack on the show this week!!  Hunter founded and operates @inalandscape, a non-profit which seeks to benefit environmental and conservationist causes. I'm super excited to have Jeremy Kaplan on Roadcase for this week's episode. Jeremy plays keys in @dogsinapile, one of the most exciting jam bands on the scene today. I'm psyched to have @michiganrattlers on the show this week!! I've got Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff of Lettuce on the show this week, and he's bringing the heavy funk vibes to Roadcase!!  Constantly evolving and exploring new boundaries, Lettuce has been at the forefront of funk both in the jam world and in more traditional lanes. I couldn't be more psyched for this week's guest, LP Giobbi. LP is an absolute bundle of joy and light and her shows are life-affirming and community-building celebrations that connect us through the common bonds we all share.  LP is a DJ, Producer, jazz-pianist and activist. She was one of NPR's Favorite New Musicians of 2023 following her debut album Light Places, and her latest album Dotr, features Danielle Ponder, Portugal. The Man, Alabama Shakes and Holly Bowling, among others.  LP has played a multitude of festivals including Coachella, Lollapalooza, Electric Forest with the likes of Diplo and SofiTukker, just to name a few. She is also well-known in the jam band community for her Dead House performances featuring electronic versions of the music of Grateful Dead, and her stellar 2023 remix of Jerry Garcia's 1972 album, Garcia, is a perfect example of building the bridges that create those common bonds. I talk to LP about her life as a performer and what exactly it has taken (and at what cost) to get to this point, and we also explore her work as an advocate and activist. She founded Femme House, a nonprofit that advocates for gender equity in electronica, heads up her label Yes Yes Yes, and is also Global Music Director for W Hotels. Michael Marcagi has had an absolutely epic year, and I'm psyched to have him on the show this week. Michael, whose most recent EP, American Romance, just dropped last month, has been hitting the road hard, but this only tells half the story. Late last year, his song, “Scared to Start,” became an overnight sensation — literally — when it received more than a million views by the day after he posted it.  Since then the song has gained over 4 billion views on TikTok and close to 400 million plays on Instagram!!To state the obvious, this put Michael on the map. For this final episode from Lollapalooza, and to bring the festival series of in-person interviews to a close, I sat down on the last day with Brian Oblivion and Madeline Follin of Cults, and also had an amazing conversation with Chance Emerson. Cults' music is both surreal and ethereal, but also grounded in down-to-earth songwriting to is striking in its simplicity and authenticity. Alisa, who won the 2022 Tiny Desk Contest, combines a level of vulnerability with the ability to connect with her audience in totally unique way. Solange and Andrea of Glitterfox bring a super positive and fun vibe to everything they do, and this interview was no exception. I love their combination of roots and indie rock with danceable garage vibes. I'm back with more interviews live from Newport Folk for this Part 2 of the 2024 Newport Folk Festival Series on Roadcase. This episode features some of my favorite interviews I've done for Roadcase. There was truly something special that occurred with each of these artists and the result is really spectacular!!  First up is the iconic Donavon Frankenreiter, who is now into his third decade of music, having debuted his first album in 2004. Donavon is at Newport for the first time to celebrate his upcoming album, Get Outta Your Mind. Donavon is a truly unique human and he and I have a great vibe. Ocie Elliot is Jon Middleton and Sierra Lundy, and we all sit down on the couch for loads of laughs and great times talking about their music, overall vibe, origin story and simply everything and anything. Jobi Riccio rounds out this episode and it's a blast. Jobi is the 2023 John Prine Fellowship recipient and also the 2024 Luck Reunion Artist on the Rise. Festival Season on Roadcase is finally upon us and we're kicking it off from Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago!! For this Part 1 from Pitchfork, I talked to singer, rapper and multi-genre artist, Tkay Maizda and also had a fun convo with the amazing Riot Girrrrls themselves, Molly Neuman and Allison Wolfe of Bratmobile. Tkay has achieved global recognition already in her brief career, having won NME's Best Australian Solo Artist in 2022. She was also nominated for an ARIA award for Best Rap Song for her 2023 single "Silent Assassin."  But accolades alone do not do her justice; Tkay is a joyous human and a tireless artist, and she talked to me about striving to create and perform at the highest levels. We discussed what it was like growing up in Australia, moving frequently from city to city, how she stayed true to herself and her art.Molly and Allison of Bratmobile are back playing live after a 20-year hiatus and are both super excited to be performing again. Having been at the hub of the Riot Girl movement in the early 90s, Bratmobile waved the flag for the DIY spirit and Girl Power. Shannon Shaw and I go super deep on this week's episode as she talks to me about the tragic loss of her partner, Joe Haener, almost two years ago, just prior to their wedding date. I go Down Under this week on Roadcase as Keith Jeffery of Atlas Genius joins me from his home near Adelaide, Australia for this week's episode. Atlas Genius is about to release its first album in nine years, End Of The Tunnel, due out August 23, and in this amazing conversation, I talk to Keith about performing his first shows is five years, just last month, and what it means to him to hit the stage after a sizable hiatus from touring. I'm super pumped to speak with Anders Beck for Episode 226!! Anders is the dobro player for Greensky Bluegrass, whose unique blend of Bluegrass and Rock and makes it one of the most compelling sounds in live music today.  Greensky has been touring practically non-stop for over 20 years, and Anders stopped in to chat with me just after completing their Winter Tour with yet another sold out two-night run at the Ryman Auditorium.
