Hailing from the city of Bergen, Norway, Slomosa channel the sprawl of their surroundings through a sweeping signature hybrid of revved-up stoner rock riffage, grungy hooks, and a concentrated punk wallop. As if holding up a sonic mirror image to the landscape, an avalanche of distortion tumbles into valleys of massive melody, teeming with tectonic force. Dubbed Tundra Rock, Slomosa love the term so much they named their most recent album after the title.“‘Tundra Rock' is ‘Desert Rock' in our terms,” frontman Benjamin Berdous observes. “A desert doesn't have to be warm. If you think about it, the biggest desert in the world is Antarctica. In this respect, the tundra is our desert. We thought it would be cool to coin a genre, and it's stuck to us. You could certainly say the grandiosity of nature is evident in the songs.”Nearly ten years ago, Ben planted the seeds for Slomosa as a “casual excuse to drink beer, smoke, and play rock music with friends.” Without pressure or expectations, songs naturally took shape under the influence of everyone from Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, and Sleep to Nirvana, Alice In Chains, and Soundgarden. The band's 2020 eponymous debut, SLOMOSA, has piled up over 10 million streams fueled by Kevin, In My Mind's Desert, There Is Nothing New Under The Sun, and Horses. With Tundra Rock further cementing Slomosa amongst rocks elite, HEAVY felt it was time to have a chat with these legends in the makings ourselves. We start by asking if Tundra Rocks was received as well as the band had hoped."Yeah, and even more," Benjamin smiled. "It's the hard second album, the difficult second album. So I mean, it was excitement around it. And you never know. You never know what the reception will be like, And we released it on some new labels as well. So, yeah, it was all not nerve wracking, but of course, excited. But after a day or two, it became pretty clear that the reception was good. And yeah, I'm very pleased with how it went."Whispers have been circulating of late about Slomosa finally making their way to Australia, so, attempting to put rumours to rest, we ask Benjamin straight out if they are true."It might be…" he grinned. "We definitely want to come to Australia and New Zealand. We get a lot of messages from people down there. So that's definitely something that we have to do. And yeah, it does look like there might be some news on the horizon, but I can't say much more than that."In the full interview, Benjamin reflected more on the success of Slomosa's second album, Tundra Rock, released in September 2024, noting the challenges of following up a successful debut and the evolution of the band's sound over the years. He introduced the term "Tundra Rock" to describe their unique musical style, influenced by desert rock bands, and discussed the balance between touring and songwriting. He highlighted how the band aims to innovate while maintaining their identity, with plans for future projects, including a sludge album. We discussed the blending of genres in Slomosa's music and how they get the balance right in the creative process, the early days of the band, touring Australia and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

rWotD Episode 3127: Shampoohorn Welcome to random Wiki of the Day, your journey through Wikipedia's vast and varied content, one random article at a time. The random article for Tuesday, 25 November 2025, is Shampoohorn.Shampoohorn is an album by Dweezil and Ahmet Zappa, under the group name Z, released in 1993.The European version of the album was released months before the American version. Between the release of the two versions, Dweezil Zappa fired longtime Zappa bassist Scott Thunes due to inter-band conflicts; subsequently, the band hired bassist Bryan Beller, a Berklee honors graduate based on the recommendation of drummer Joe Travers (who had played extensively with Beller at Berklee) and an exhausting 5-day audition. After this change, the band continued to record. As a result, the European version of the album differs from the American version, which replaces "What Went Wrong In The Real World?", and "Bellybutton" with "In My Mind" and "My Beef Mailbox", both featuring Beller on bass. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:31 UTC on Tuesday, 25 November 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Shampoohorn on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Ayanda.

Nestled in the quiet charm of a small town just north of Columbia, South Carolina, Sofia Lynch emerged into the world with a passion for music that felt like a natural calling. Growing up amidst the tunes of Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and The Cranberries, Sofia, with her gentle spirit and adeptness on guitar and piano, quietly harbored dreams of musical success. After graduating from Blythewood High School, Sofia pursued her studies at Middle Tennessee State University, focusing on Commercial Songwriting with a minor in Music, delving into Classical Music Studies along the way. In 2023, she proudly graduated, driven by her determination and dedication. Sofia's music reflects her genuine nature and her desire to connect with others through her art. Drawing inspiration from the world around her, whether it's fleeting encounters with strangers or the vast beauty of nature, her songs serve as a guiding light through life's journey, capturing the essence of her introspective soul. Though Sofia finds joy in sharing her original songs with audiences, her greatest satisfaction comes from the heartfelt connections they foster. Inspired by the perseverance of artists like Taylor Swift, the innovation of Billie Eilish, and the lyrical depth of Lorde, Sofia aspires to carve her own path in the music world, blending genres and weaving emotional narratives. Since stepping into the professional realm, Sofia has had the privilege of collaborating with Grammy-winning producers and securing a sync license deal with Cream Collective. Her musical journey began at just 14 with her debut EP, "IN MY MIND," followed by the release of her album "LATELY" in 2020, which garnered over 50,000 streams and caught the attention of a growing audience on platforms like TikTok. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/tophillrecording/support

Growing up within the rich club culture of NYC during his early years profoundly influenced the artistic journey of Avision. So much so that today, he finds himself at the forefront of a fresh wave of techno to the New York scene. His debut album ‘In My Mind' received acclaim from ‘DJ Mag UK', who described it as “an impressive body of work stuffed full of melodic techno and maximal house”. If you wanna know about any recent releases: he's just re- leased two remixes for Laurent Garnier's new album, and also crafted a remix for Marc Romboy on Carl Coxes label ‘Awesome Soundwave'. There's also more to look forward to, with his upcoming track ‘Whatever' set to drop in December under his own label ‘MATTER'. And he'll be following that by releasing a single on ‘Ellum'. On the live performance front, he's set to light up stages in both North and South America, starting with ‘Drumcode' at ‘Dreamfields Festival' on November 19th. Then, catch him at 'Flash' in Washington D.C. on the 24th, and with 'Teksupport' in New York City on December 29th. The future's looking bright for this talent, so what better time to get him in and let his skills do the talking. So let's get into it, here to bring the house down with an exclusive mix for B4 The Podcast, courtesy of B4Bookings Worldwide Agency, get ready for AVISION!

New school techno pioneer Avision released his debut album ‘In My Mind' on Ellum Audio at the end of 2021. Avision grew up around the rich club culture of New York City and is now part of a new wave of artists defining the contemporary techno landscape. In just a couple of years, the American has become an absolute mainstay on labels like Drumcode, Machine, and We Are The Brave. His hard-hitting productions have found their way into the record bags of tastemakers like Adam Beyer, Maceo Plex and Chris Liebing. At the same time, he has been featured everywhere, from The Brooklyn Mirage and Time Warp in New York to festivals like Elrow, The BPM Festival, Electric Daisy Carnival and Dockyards. Now he offers up ‘In My Mind', a widescreen artistic statement across 13 immersive tracks. ‘In My Mind' is an accomplished and adventurous album that takes melodic techno in bold new directions. I chatted to him on Twitch in an in-depth interview about the album, his biggest influences as an artist, growing up in New York, techno music, sampling as a producer, his passions around baseball and we listened to loads of the album and chatted about how the tracks were produced.

About Victor: In 1996, Calderone broke through with his debut solo single "Give It Up," which lived on top of the Billboard Dance Music charts for a week. Throughout the '90s and aughts, Calderone was known for his intuitive and original club remixes for pop artists like Madonna, Sting, Beyoncé, Depeche Mode, and Whitney Houston. The fruitful era also saw him kick off international and statewide residencies that are still going strong over 20 years later. Calderone built a luminous reputation for his sprawling 12-16 hour sets—all-consuming journeys that illustrated his gift for musical storytelling. About Avision: Fortunate to grow up around the rich club culture of NYC and influenced by the sounds around him, Avision now finds himself helping to usher in a new wave of techno for the New York scene. His debut album In My Mind has been released on Maceo Plex's Ellum Audio imprint, which DJ Mag UK has called “an impressive body of work stuffed full of melodic techno and maximal house”. Sofia Lynch is on a mission to put her most vulnerable feelings into words, and share it with anyone who will listen. At age 21, armed with her intimate lyrics and penchant for pop excellence, she has worked with two Grammy award-winning producers (Thomas Scott Hoffman and Femke Weidema-Reynolds), recorded at the internationally renowned Blackbird Studios, and inked a sync licensing deal with UK-based publishing group, Cream Collective. Lynch, born to two manufacturing engineers, began her career in music at just five years old when she sang the National Anthem at a regional teacher's conference. After performing in community theater for several years, she learned how to play guitar when she was nine years old, writing over fifty songs before she turned ten. At 12, Sofia played her first paid show at a bar in her hometown, which got her started performing at many other local venues. She released her first EP, In My Mind, at 14 years old, and dropped her first album, Lately, in 2020. It quickly amassed over 50,000 streams on digital platforms, with one of her songs amassing millions of plays on the popular social app, TikTok. Lynch credits her unique melancholy pop sound as being influenced by other “sad girls,” gushing about her favorite songwriters like Phoebe Bridgers, Maisie Peters, and Taylor Swift: “There are so many wonderful female artists today that are pushing boundaries. I think it's important to listen to great music in order to create great music.” After graduating from MTSU, Sofia will continue to play shows, co-write, record music, and make videos for her TikTok fans. During her free time, Sofia enjoys spending quality time with her parents and two sisters, watching live performances, reading, and digging into some Chinese take-out. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/tophillrecording/support
