Direct from Thailand ahead of a tripleheader in the clubs across Asia this weekend, Markus Schulz checks in with a fresh studio edition of Global DJ broadcast, as the countdown begins to Miami Music Week. On the show, he showcases upcoming Coldharbour world premieres from Adina Butar and Tim Clark, along with some big collaborations from Cosmic Gate & Christian Burns, and Protoculture, DIM3NSION & Dennis Sheperd. As an artist, David Richards has his bases covered. Links to assorted local theater & book venues  ​ Bookwaves Jan Morris (1926-2020) Jan Morris was a noted travel writer and historian, and a leading figure in the trans world. As James Morris, she accompanied Edmund Hillary on the first expedition to the summit of Mount Everest. Before and after her transition in 1964 to the time of her death, Jan Morris had published 18 travel books, six history books including a three volume history of the British Empire, eight memoirs including the best-selling Conundrum, two novels and twelve collections of essays. These interviews were originally aired together on November 25, 2021.   An interview recorded while Jan Morris was attending a conference in San Francisco, August 20, 1999. Richard Wolinsky and Richard A. Lupoff discuss her career, her feelings toward writing, the United States and other topics. Jan Morris's book, Lincoln: A foreigner's quest, discussed in the interview, was published in 2001. Complete 38-minute podcast.     An interview recorded during the book tour for “Trieste and the Meaning of Nowhere,” recorded November 16, 2001 in the KPFA studios. In this interview Jan Morris talks about the meaning of Trieste in her life, delves deeply into what she sees as the future of humankind over the following decades, and pretty much nails where we are today in 2021. True to her word in the interview, “Trieste and the Meaning of Nowhere” was the last full-length book Jan Morris would write. Growing up within the rich club culture of NYC during his early years profoundly influenced the artistic journey of Avision.  So much so that today, he finds himself at the forefront of a fresh wave of techno to the New York scene.  His debut album ‘In My Mind' received acclaim from ‘DJ Mag UK', who described it as “an impressive body of work stuffed full of melodic techno and maximal house”. New school techno pioneer Avision released his debut album ‘In My Mind' on Ellum Audio at the end of 2021. Avision grew up around the rich club culture of New York City and is now part of a new wave of artists defining the contemporary techno landscape. In just a couple of years, the American has become an absolute mainstay on labels like Drumcode, Machine, and We Are The Brave. His hard-hitting productions have found their way into the record bags of tastemakers like Adam Beyer, Maceo Plex and Chris Liebing. At the same time, he has been featured everywhere, from The Brooklyn Mirage and Time Warp in New York to festivals like Elrow, The BPM Festival, Electric Daisy Carnival and Dockyards. Now he offers up ‘In My Mind', a widescreen artistic statement across 13 immersive tracks. ‘In My Mind' is an accomplished and adventurous album that takes melodic techno in bold new directions. I chatted to him on Twitch in an in-depth interview about the album, his biggest influences as an artist, growing up in New York, techno music, sampling as a producer, his passions around baseball and we listened to loads of the album and chatted about how the tracks were produced.

Sofia Lynch is on a mission to put her most vulnerable feelings into words, and share it with anyone who will listen.  At age 21, armed with her intimate lyrics and penchant for pop excellence, she has worked with two Grammy award-winning producers (Thomas Scott Hoffman and Femke Weidema-Reynolds), recorded at the internationally renowned Blackbird Studios, and inked a sync licensing deal with UK-based publishing group, Cream Collective.  Lynch, born to two manufacturing engineers, began her career in music at just five years old when she sang the National Anthem at a regional teacher's conference. After performing in community theater for several years, she learned how to play guitar when she was nine years old, writing over fifty songs before she turned ten. At 12, Sofia played her first paid show at a bar in her hometown, which got her started performing at many other local venues. She released her first EP, In My Mind, at 14 years old, and dropped her first album, Lately, in 2020. It quickly amassed over 50,000 streams on digital platforms, with one of her songs amassing millions of plays on the popular social app, TikTok.  Lynch credits her unique melancholy pop sound as being influenced by other “sad girls,” gushing about her favorite songwriters like Phoebe Bridgers, Maisie Peters, and Taylor Swift:  “There are so many wonderful female artists today that are pushing boundaries.
