The Mixed Emotions by Brian Norwood podcast is an absolute gem in the realm of music podcasts. From the moment I started listening, I was captivated by the beautiful music that filled my ears. As someone who has lived through 61 years of life, I can confidently say that this podcast has created some of the most stunning music I have ever heard. It is a true testament to Brian Norwood's talent and his ability to evoke emotions through his musical creations.

One of the best aspects of The Mixed Emotions podcast is how it has the power to transport you to a different emotional state. Whether you are feeling joy, sadness, or anywhere in between, there is a mix for every mood. Norwood's music has been a source of solace for me during difficult times, comforting me in moments of grief and soul-searching. But it doesn't stop there – his mixes have also brought immense happiness and excitement into my life. The range of emotions that this podcast taps into is truly remarkable.

Another standout aspect of The Mixed Emotions podcast is Norwood's ability to create variety without ever becoming repetitive or boring. Some DJ mixes can quickly lose their appeal as they fall into predictable patterns or rely on overplayed tracks. However, Norwood manages to keep each mix fresh and engaging from start to finish. His musical selections are diverse and unexpected, taking listeners on an epic journey through different genres and moods.

If I had to find any criticism for The Mixed Emotions podcast, it would be that sometimes it leaves you wanting more. Each episode ends too soon, leaving me longing for another fix of Norwood's incredible music. However, this could also be seen as a positive aspect as it keeps you eagerly awaiting the next installment.

In conclusion, The Mixed Emotions by Brian Norwood podcast is an absolute must-listen for any lover of music. It transcends typical DJ mixes with its ability to touch your soul, evoke a range of emotions, and keep you captivated throughout. Norwood's talent as a musician and his ability to create such beautiful music is truly awe-inspiring. I cannot recommend this podcast enough – it is a true masterpiece that deserves all the recognition it receives.

Welcome to my favorite hour of my favorite day of the entire year. It's hard to put into words how special this day is and what it means to me and so many others but I'll try...Picture it --> 200 of the most beautiful humans to walk this earth on a private beach. Love, unspeakable joy and a rare Spirit have ruled the day. And now...the golden hour is upon us. The sun is slowly lowering towards the horizon of the Pacific ocean and every one and everything is awash in the most breathtaking golden yellow light. There's a magic in the air that just can't be described.I consider every hour important when I'm spinning but I will say that I consider this hour THE hour where, with the right music selections, I can take people's hearts and emotions and send them places that every human should dream to go.This set starts with galloping, emotional anthems and slowly ebbs towards a nostalgic soft landing where I pull out Sarah McLaughlin "Silence", Stereolove Feat. Brian Kennedy "Life, Love & Happiness", Christian Burns "Wonderful Life", Lighthouse Family "High" and Beth Orton "Central Reservation". Everyone was in emotional overload with the gorgeous trance anthems I was playing...and then as I went into the nostalgia set I just kind of sent everyone over the edge (in the best way). We are a blessed tribe with a long history together. To get to create and take part in the unspeakable joy that unfolded was a blessing I'll always cherish. As always, this set was brought to you with every ounce of love that I've got to give. I hope it touches your heart as much as it did mine and so many others as Epic Maui Journey came to an emotionally powerful conclusion.*I edited this set to remove the very ending of the day, as I was playing more downbeat songs that were perfect for the moment but wouldn't have exactly made sense in podcast form. I feel that the songs I played at the very end of the day were special and to be enjoyed only in that very moment. #/Artist/Title/Remix01. Ciaran McAuley/Love Loud/Original Mix02. Energy is such a profound thing.  It's something that's both silent and unspoken but also always present and within our ability to control.  It's everyone's duty to be mindful of that to ensure that what we're sharing is...good and uplifting.  I keep that in mind when deciding what to share with you.  I've also wanted the energy of these mixes to walk a fine line;  perfect for both 2AM and 2PM.  Obviously what we're all doing at those two different times are very different things.  I use my own real world experiences to guide me on the music choices here.  And what I've found is that the songs you'll hear here are beautiful pieces to have in the background during the day to (subconsciously) affect our day and also have in the forefront during the night to (consciously) drive the fun.  I hope that the energy, the vibes and the messages you hear on this mix lift you up and set you free.  I have no shortage of favorites on this set.  I set the set off with the Kygo produced "Love Me Now Or Lose Me Later" -- a truly powerful heart-tugger.  From there I mix into "One Day" by Dutch emo-pop band Haevn.  They are truly one of my favorite bands ever.  Their sound is rich, authentic and emotionally powerful.  They're not really known here in the Americas so I'm really proud and fortunate to share them with you.  Find them and stream them.  They're incredible.  Otherwise, I've got 17 songs mixed here and have managed to find 5 incredible remakes for the set:  Chasing Cars (#5), You're Not Alone (#10), Sweet Disposition (#12), With Or Without You (#14) and Wonderful Life (#15).  It's so hard to find remakes that are tastefully done and keep the spirit of the original.  So I feel happy to have found these.  Pay special attention to the remake of With Or Without You by U2.  Initially I assumed this would be typically not great.  How pleasantly surprise I was to find this remake really amazing.  It's remixed by organic house master DSF.  In closing the set I chose the gorgeous "Crazy Love" by Above & Beyond featuring vocals by none other than Zoe Johnston.  By the time you reach the end of the set the *energy" will have quietly risen from chill and peaceful to powerfully melodic and progressive.  Hopefully, if I've done my job right, you'll not even notice the energy quietly rising to crescendo.  As always....this set was mixed with every ounce of love I've got to give.  From my heart...to your ears...#/Artist/Title/Remix01.  Matt Hansen/Love Me Now or Lose Me Later/Kygo Original02.  Haevn/One Day/Original Mix03.  Nicholas Gunn/Thought Of You/Extended Mix04.  Susie Ledge/Closer/Extended Mix05.  Sea To Sky/Chasing Cars/Extended Mix06.  Keanler/Orbit/Extended Mix07.  Modera/Dominoes/Extended Mix08.  Zak Abel/Lighthouse/Kygo Original Mix09.  Nicholas Gunn/My Heart/Extended Mix10.  RY X/You're Not Alone/(&friends Extended Mix)11.  KOATES/Undo/John Summit Original Mix12.  Temper Trap/Sweet Disposition/John Summit Extended13.  Hayla/Shiver/John Summit Extended Mix14.  Alex Cruz/With Or Without You/DSF Extended Mix15.  Christian Burns/Wonderful Life/KRYDER Extended Mix16.  Jack Emery/Fickle Heart/Extended Mix17.  Above & Beyond/Crazy Love/ANUQRAM Extended MixFOR WORLDWIDE DJ BOOKING INFORMATION:Instagram:  DJ Brian NorwoodFacebook:  Brian NorwoodEar:  615-418-8900Email:  IamBrianNorwood@gmail.com

It's so hard to pinpoint which genre is my favorite to mix and present because I love several different genres so much. But it is without question that the sound that I present on these Deep mixes resides right at the top of my list of favorites. Different DJs have different reasons and end-goals for why they DJ. I myself have always wanted to affect people on a higher level. It's more than just entertaining in the pursuit of partying for me personally. I've always wanted my listeners to think deeply about not only the words that they were hearing but also allow the tones, chords and vibes that were permeating into their subconscious to "speak" to them (no words needed!). I search long and hard for those brilliant artists, producers and remixers that make music that's on what I call a higher plane and it's always my pleasure to compile them in a nuanced way to lead you on "little journeys". The Deep mixes are my perfect opportunity to take you to rare and unique places.I mix my DJ sets much like I choose the records that I buy: progression is a must. I go really far out of my way to ensure that each song lures you to the next in anticipation of where you'll go next. You should feel a sense of peace and dreamy happiness as the mix starts and then ever so subtly I weave the energy up so that you end up in a far-away place. I hope that you'll dream and allow your mind to wander (to so many places) as you listen. It's so important for us to "lose ourselves" sometimes...and I hope I can help you do just that. The warm and melancholic harmonies, sinuous chords and tribal influences should "take you there" if I've done this right.I sorted through hundreds (thousands?) of records to present these 15 songs to you. I searched for and mixed them with every ounce of love I've got to give. From my heart...to your ears. Soundcloud and PodOmatic links in the comments section.  #/Artist/Title/Remix01. Several weeks ago I mentioned that this new edition of Sophisticated Morning was going to be deep and moody. At that time I noticed that a great deal of that type of deep house was sitting in my hold bin. Well, that didn't happen. Instead what you're going to hear here (ha!) is very much one of my traditional Morning sets. For those of you that were looking forward to a deeper sound from me, please accept my apologies (but I do have good news for you; there's a Deep set on the horizon). And for those of you that love my traditional sound, well, you're in for a treat. This set is filled with the most current and heart-warming chill house that's out right now. I start the set out with the twinkling pianos of Anam (SE) "Anywhere". The pianos, the message and the vibe are all just so perfect. From there I roll on through piece after piece that's touching my heart at the moment. And just for good measure I threw in one of the biggest feel-good classics of all time "Seven Cities" by Solarstone towards the end. The remix of it is new and really incredible. My personal favorites on the set are #1 "Anywhere", #3 Le Youth "Overgrown", #6 Kairos Grove "I Don't Mind (Robby East Remix), #8 Tinlicker "Nothing To Lose", #11 ARTBAT "Coming Home" and the very last song, #11, Flight Facilities "All Your Love". I always hesitate to mention my favorites -- but the truth is -- I do have my favorites, just like you do. I love every song on this set. It just happens that those are my very VERY favorites. I hope you'll listen...and love what I did. From my heart...to your ears.#/Artist/Title/Remix01. Anam (SE)/Anywhere (Road Trippin')/Original Mix02. OCULA/High Tides/Extended Mix03. I got back from Hawaii three weeks ago...and I swear I'm still glowing from the experience.  The glow is so strong that I thought I'd share some of it with you.  I played many of these songs at Epic Maui Journey...so if you were there you'll recognize most of them. I can't wait for you to hear them again.  If you weren't, well, I can't wait for you to hear them the first time!  These are masterpieces;  a collection of songs that are drenched in warm sunshine and loving vibes.  I've got major superstars (Nora En Pure, Kygo, GoldFish, Armin van Buuren) on the set and I've got lesser known producers (Jerro, Ocula, Le Youth, CRi, etc).  If you follow the deep and chill house genres even those "less known" artist/producers are at the top of their game.  I start the set in a deep and chill vibe and slowly work the energy to the point that by the time the set is coming towards a conclusion you've arrived in near full-on EDM anthems.  I tried to segue from one genre to another so carefully that the changes in energy would be subtle and near-undetectable.  Although you'll end up in a different "place" at the end than the beginning I will say that the constant is a feeling of warmth and happiness.  As always...this set originated in my heart.  I hope you FEEL it just the same as I do.  From my heart...to your ears.  #/Artist/Title/Remix01. Have you ever heard me liken my mixes to musical arcs? Typically I mold my sets as though they form an imaginary musical arc, with a distinct beginning, peak and landing. With this mix, unintentionally, my arc is more like a straight line across (that's drenched in warm, deep, melodic and heart-soaring vibes). The feel at the end of this set is very much the same as the beginning. I always like to say that I'm not the only one involved in creating my mixes. The unseen Spirit that guides me has a hand in all this too and, well, the straight line across is what the Spirit had in mind today. This one is deep, heartfelt and sturdy! ;-)As for the music. *Every* *Single* *Song* is an anthem in its own right. Of course these aren't peak of night hands in the air anthems. These are heart-tugging anthems that wrap their arms around you and drench you in warmth and melancholy blissful vibes. I always go out of my way my way to source remarkable remakes of songs from years' ago...and wow, did I find a couple of good ones for you for this set. I start the set off with Blonde Maze's remake of the 1982 international smash hit "I Melt With You" by Modern English. Later in the set I bring in York's remake of Human League's "Human" from 1986. Surrounding these two masterpieces are the most gorgeous and emotionally rich deep house records you could possibly imagine. I rarely want to mention my personal favorites on a set so as to not influence what you think of the mix overall. Well...let me just say that you should pay *really close attention* to #5 (Kairos Grove "I Don't Mind), #6 (Tailor "Never Enough"), #7 (Le Youth "I Will Leave A Light On"), #8 (Vanessa Arnolds "Colors Turn To Grey"), #9 (Martin Garrix "Real Love"), #10 (Anamē "Peaceful Avenue"), #12 (Julia Church "No Ending") and #14 (Chicane "One Thousand Suns"). Hint hint. Wink Wink. But seriously...please pay really close attention to *all* the songs on this set. Like I said above...every song here is emotionally powerful. As always, my sets are conceived and composed with every ounce of love that I've got to give. I firmly believe that each of us is placed here on earth to give a particular gift to our world around us that needs it so badly. *This* is my gift to you. From my heart...to your ears. I've been planning this mix for months now and so excited about it...so it brings me huge joy to finally get it to you.  I'll tell you about the influences that helped me create it and then I'll tell you about why I envision it as "Fire Island" house music.  First, the influences.  I was lucky enough to live in Philly during the glory days of clubbing (the 90s). Because of my close proximity to NYC I was going to clubs on a near-weekly basis listening to internationally famous DJs such as Frankie Knuckles, David Morales, DJ BUC (RIP), Hex Hector, Louie Vega, Danny Tenaglia and Morabito to name a few.  I was going to clubs such as Sound Factory, Roxy, Limelight and Sound Factory Bar(and of course the Pavilion on Fire Island).  Those DJs were the most influential to me -- and largely molded me and my style of DJing from the very beginning.  So that's a quick bit about where my influences come from.  About why I envision this music as "Fire Island" house music:  It was almost always a guarantee that me and my friends would stay in the clubs and parties until the very last note rang out -- usually in the wee hours of the morning.  During the Autumn, Winter and Spring the above-mentioned clubs were the places to be.  As the nights turned into mornings the sound would transition to a spin-chilling sound that was laden with pianos, horns and sweeping melodies.  Morning music was a thing and it had a most definite sound.  It was jazz, funk, disco and urban influenced.  During the summertime the center of gravity in New York moves out to the most magical paradise of the Fire Island Pines and Cherry Grove.  That same clubbing blueprint is enacted at the Pavilion in the Pines.  I have been fortunate to spend more nights than I can count experiencing that glory.  But it isn't just about clubbing on Fire Island.  House culture is a huge thing on the island.  One can walk the boardwalks at 3PM or 3AM and it is guaranteed that there will be music wafting through the air.  And it's not just any music.  It's *THIS* music.  Because this music is melodic and rooted in "real" music...it is also versatile and perfectly aligns itself with not only early morning clubbing but also lazy days by the pool and on the beach. About this particular mix:  I hope you love hearing it as much as I loved creating it.  It's something of a tale of two sounds (that perfectly belong together).  The first half of the mix is made up of stunning piano house pieces. I then transition into a more vocal-centric sound the second half of the mix that is influenced by that jazz, disco and funk that I speak about above.  Every note you hear...started in my heart.  As I always say...from my HEART...to your EARS.  Love.  #/Artist/Title/Remix01.  Moon Rocket/Main Piano/Piano & Strings Intro02.  Wayne Cooper/The Piano Song/Teddy Douglas Remix03.  Daisuke Miyamoto/Dawn/Original Mix04.  Danny Tenaglia/The Brooklyn Gypsy/Original Mix05.  Jo Paciello/The Big Sun/DAN:ROS Remix06.  Shortcut/Love Like This/Original Mix07.  Rona Ray/Feel The Groove/Original Mix08.  De' Lacy/That Look/Roger Garcia & George Calle Disco Lights Vocal09.  Chocolate Fudge Band/Everything/DJ Fudge Extended Mix10.   Caio Cenci/Bad Girls/Extended Mix11.   Gianni Santoro/Going Up/Vibe Mix12.  Neal Conway/Darlin Darlin Baby/Spen & Thommy's Original13.  Karen Harding/Free To Love/David Morales Disco Juice Mix14.  Ferrari & Bergamasco/People Hold On/F&B Club Mix

As you know I have three DJ mix series that I produce:  Sophisticated Deep, Morning and Chill.  All three of the series are authentic labors of love of mine;  artistic works that genuinely come from deep within.  As I sit and ponder I sometimes think that the Deep sets differ so strikingly from the Chill and Morning sets.  But upon deeper thought...no, they actually don't.  From the very beginning of my spinning career I was known for having a "morning" sound.  Back in the old days...it was actually called "morning music".  But times have changed (and so have I) and it's not called that anymore.  However, the SPIRIT of it all is still the same.  In the old days when I played live I often played trance and progressive house before ending up in "morning music" in the late night hours.  If you analyze my music today...you will hear that my Morning and Chill sets are musical descendants of the old morning music and that my Deep sets are musical descendants of the trance and progressive house sound I used to play.  At the end of the day...all these sounds that I play are still rooted (mostly) in the late-night and morning hours.So...I have changed a lot...but not at all, all at once.  That's some stuff to ponder.  Let's talk about this, my newest Deep mix.  Wow.  I couldn't be happier with this.  As you know I like my mix sets to be little journeys.  This journey generally consists of three distinct sections.  I start the set off by gently sending you off into soothing organic and melodic house.  About five songs in I subtly transition into a deep and sexy sound that has masculine and sturdy tribal undertones.  Lots of percussion, horns and sexy rolling rhythms.  And finally, before you know it, I crescendo into a sound of melodic and anthemic progressive house.  All three segments of the mix very subtly belong together.  I hope you love taking this mini journey as much as I loved making it.  From my heart...to your ears....ENJOY. #/ARTIST/TITLE/REMIX01.  El Mundo, Zazou/Through Your System/Original02.  Larson (AR)/Moments/Original Mix03.  Hermanez/Jinx/Volen Sentir Pure Magic Healing04.  Domingo +/Everything Is OK/Original Mix05.  Serious Dances/Time For School/Original Mix06.  Amonita/Jungle Blues/Makebo Remix07.  Lannka/Quiero Vivir/Original Mix08.  Lannka/Daraxa/Derun Remix09.  Gabriel Balky/Go Ahead/Original Mix10.  Momo Khani/Azadi/Original Mix11.  Noiyse Project/Aurora Rain/Greenage Remix12.  Amir Telem/Prayer To The Sea/Greg Ochman MixFOR WORLDWIDE DJ BOOKING INFORMATION:Email:  IamBrianNorwood@gmail.comPhone: 615-418-8900Instagram:  DJ Brian NorwoodFacebook:  Brian Norwood

Welcome to the start of one of the happiest days I have each and every year.  The beginnings of my live gigs are always a big source of pride and joy for me.  You've heard me mention numerous times before my belief that musical performances should form an unseen arc with a clear beginning that invites the listener in -- comforting and intriguing them all at once.  I conceive all my musical performances with clearly defined "sections" all the while carefully blurring the transitions from genre to genre so carefully that the shifts in energy are subtle and happen subconsciously.  All that being said...here is the beginning of one of the most special days I'll ever be part of.  Once you listen to this I hope you'll be amazed that some of these songs would have any part of a "dance" party.  I go out of my way to welcome my attendees with chill and loving vibes.  The songs that start this mix aren't necessarily ones you would dance to but they ARE songs that will stir your soul, shake your hips and wrap you in warmth and happiness.  I open the day with George Ezra "Shotgun"; a quirky indie guitar piece of music that just brings a smile to the face.  A perfect song to open the day.  From there I segued into Craig Strickland "Starlit Afternoon".  Whoa.  This song gives me chill bumps.  Every. Single. Time.  What a perfect song for the day.  If there was every such a thing as a starlit afternoon...this is it.  From there I go into Zac Abel "Be Kind".  LISTEN TO THE WORDS OF THIS SONG!!! Very important message going on here.  Please, seriously, listen to the words.  We need more of this in our world right now.  Zac Abel is our ally and we need as much of him as we can get.  I then mix into Keith Urban "Street Called Main".  Who says I can't play "country" music in my sets (I am from Nashville after all!).  We'll call it country-pop -- and I love it.  This is where I try to carve out a true and genuine style and think outside the box a bit.  From there I want you to zero in on track #9 "Home" by Vicetone.  This song's message is powerful.  The energy is rising and serious and heartfelt all at once.  I always look for messages in my songs and I always want to share them with you.  My gifts to you are sometimes subtle.  Listen.  It's at this point that I begin to bring the energy up ever so subtly.  My standouts from here on are the astounding Nina Simone remake of "Birds Flying High" by Möwe, "Cold Heart" by Elton John and the breathtaking Purple Disco Machine remix of "Hold Me Closer" by Elton John and Brittany Spears to close out the set. As always every sound and word you'll hear here (ha!)originated from my heart.  I made an oath with myself many years ago that that would be the case.  And it is my joy and pleasure to share this with you.  I hope you'll feel it, love it, share it.  From my heart...to your ears...ENJOY. #/Artist/Title/Track01.  George Ezra/Shotgun02.  Craig Stickland/Starlit Afternoon03.  Zak Abel/Be Kind04.  Keith Urban/Street Called Main05.  Lukas Graham/Fever/Kygo Original 06.  Kygo/Thrill Of The Chase/Original Mix07.  Stevie Appleton/What A Life/Extended Mix08.  R3HAB,VIZE/One Last Time/Extended Mix09.  Vicetone/Home/Original Mix10.  Elton John/Cold Heart/Javier Penna Extended11.  Benjamin Ingrosso/Black & Blue/Extended Mix12.  Mowe/Birds Flying High/Original Mix13.  Elton John, Britney Spears/Hold Me Closer/PDM Extended14.  Me & My Toothbrush/Unbreakable/Extended MixFOR WORLDWIDE DJ BOOKING INFORMATION:Email:  IamBrianNorwood@gmail.comPhone:  615-418-8900Facebook:  Brian NorwoodInstagram:  DJ Brian Norwood

Welcome to the segment of Epic Maui Journey where I was beginning to ramp the energy up into spine-tingling, foot-stomping anthems. I started this set off with Paloma Faith's most brilliant remake of "Make Your Own Kind Of Music" by Cass Elliot. From there I weaved through anthemic house and disco house masterpieces. My surprises during this set are of course the "Make Your Own Kind Of Music" but also include the remake of Michael Jackson's classic "Earth Song" by Revival & The GeO Gospel Choir (which was undeniably one of the biggest house music anthems of the last year). Also included is a breathtaking remix of Betty Wright's "Open The Door To Your Heart". by Kevin McKay and Barry Harris' brilliant remix of The Jacksons' "Can You Feel It". Surrounding those centerpieces I also included anthems by my favorite producers KC Lights and Purple Disco Machine. Everything all put together produced over an hour of music that pushed us into full on euphoric hysteria. Perfection under the bright and sunny skies. ;-)#/Artist/Title/Remix01. Several years ago I nearly renamed my Sophisticated Morning mix series to Little Journeys.  I ended up not doing it because many of you talked me out of it.  But if I had....it WOULD have been fitting.  I have always looked at my mixes as, well, Little Journeys.  The newest Sophisticated Morning is just that;  a little journey. The first three songs belong loosely to an indie genre. I start the set off with one of my favorite vocalists, Emmit Fenn, whose voice drips with melancholy beauty before mixing into Kygo feat. James Gillespie "Gone Are The Days".  We all have those artists/producers/remixers that can do no wrong to us EVER, right?  Kygo is that one to me.  Everything he touches is...gold.  From there I finish that mini-set off with "Surefire" by Wilderado, a true indie band.  His voice aches with beauty.  I found these songs to be the best "soft launch" to stir interest and lead the listener off into musical bliss...From there I weave through a set of touching deep house heart-tuggers featuring the best of today's chill/deep house producers including Shallou, Tailor, Sultan + Shepard, A R I Z O N A and Le Youth.  During this middle set pay particular attention to Chris Howard "Lighthouse" (Track 6), Sultan + Shepard "Zima" (Track 7), A R I Z O N A "Moving On" (Track 9), Tailor "Holding Ground" (Track 10).  It's sometimes hard for me to classify favorite records. I love everything I play.  However, with those records mentioned above...they really all do belong in a class of their own.  The emotion they convey is next-level "heart music".  Rounding out the mix out I move into a more energetic sound that I will classify as "deep-heart anthems".  These are records that straddle the line between deep house, progressive house and trance.  I was going to mention my standouts for this set...but as I looked over the tracks I realized that every single one of these songs sends my soul soaring and are records that I would categorize as "next-level" in their beauty and production.  These are energy records that grab you...and SEND YOU FLYING.  Closing out in this manner really showcases my "little journeys" thought process.  As you listen and if you closely pay attention you'll notice that the ending records are nothing like the beginning ones!  And yet they mesh so beautifully and all seem as though they were made just for each other.  As always I mixed this set with every ounce of love that I've got to give.  I'm a firm believer that each of us is placed on earth with a purpose and I believe that mine is to bring joy and beauty to a world that I think needs it through music.  My hope is that you'll receive my gift and use it to fuel your days (and nights).  Take it, use it, share it.  From my heart...to your  ears...#/Artist/Title/Remix01. I always approach the music for my gigs thinking of the event as though it were riding a musical arc. That being said...one could say that this segment is the "peak" of the day. I hesitate to say that though because during each segment of this day there was music that would send one's soul soaring high -- just in a different way. But it is true that this part of the day was the fastest (clocking in at around 124-125 bpm) and had the most progressive and trance-y sound.During this set I started slightly deep with it taking a couple of songs for me to ramp up into those feel-good anthems that I know we all live for. By the third song (Anabel Englund "Waiting For You") I start gently bringing the spin-chilling vibes into play before segueing into York "On The Beach" (which I feel is almost mandatory for a party such as this). Around the sixth song I arrive into full-on gorgeous trance anthems. Pay particular to that sixth song (Ashley Wallbridge "5000 Miles"). This song is what I consider my own old school sound was like. It's a new song (produced by Gareth Emery), but it has that sweet 90s high NRG anthem sound to it. From there on out it's nothing but emotionally-charged vocal anthems that pull at every heartstring. Also pay attention to #15 Leo Stannard "Stargazing". What a breathtaking anthem it is. It's almost as though it written just for that day.One thing I'm particularly proud of regarding my "peak" to the day...is how gentle and loving it all was. This is daytime energy which is so different than nighttime energy...and I think it's important to differentiate. I hope that these loving and uplifting vibes carry you through many of your days. Every sound you hear was specially chosen to wrap you in love and send your soul soaring through melodies and words alike. From my heart...to your ears. ENJOY.#/Artist/Title/Remix01. This segment of the day is always one of my very favorite parts of the Epic Maui Journey day. It's the Golden Hour when the beach is awash in that mystical golden light that is nearly impossible to describe.  Because the natural beauty that surrounds us is so mighty and powerful....I believe that this is the hour that it's most important to nail the music selection.  This is the hour where our emotions can be catapulted into rare territory if the soundtrack is perfectly tailored to meet the moment.  Based on what I watched transpire I think I hit that nail on the head.  I started the set off with Seal "Killer".  I've always been such a big fan of his.  This remix by by Pete Tong & the Heritage Orchestra is rich, warm and familiar.  Perfect.  From there I work my way into "Gratitude" by Above & Beyond feating Marty Longstaff which has turned into one of the biggest deep house anthems of recent.  It could be said that GRATITUDE was one of the themes of our Epic Maui Journey weekend.  Knowing that people have a special love and appreciation for things that they know...this year I decided to do something a little different as we worked our way towards sunset.  Usually I zero in on playing music that I know will send people into emotional overdrive through the beauty of the music and I don't particularly worry about people knowing my songs.  I allow the beauty of the songs to do the heavy lifting to transport my crowds (instead of song familiarity).  However, this year the Spirit told me to take a trip down memory lane -- and so I did.  As the Sun was beginning to put on a majestic show as it worked it's way to the horizon of the Pacific I slipped into some familiar favorites including "Sweet Child 'O Mine",  "Life In A Northern Town", "It's My Life" , "Love Is In The Air" and "Don't You Worry Child".  One particularly powerful moment was when "Life In A Northern Town" came on.  As soon as everyone realized what it was....a swarm of arms went high to the heavens....and the entire beach was united in love, singing at tops of lungs.  Blissful hysteria ensued.  I'll never forget the moment.  The song that played as the sun slowly descended below horizon was Shallou and Sultan & Shepard "Raye".  I very nearly cried (and I AM crying right now as I type this) as I looked around and watched the crowed linked arm in arm swaying to the music and clapping & cheering as we witnessed the breathtaking sun set.  I couldn't have been a happier man as I watched this happen. And I couldn't be happier to share the soundtrack with you.  PS:  LISTEN TO THIS VERSION OF THE SONG.  It is...EPIC. As always, this mix came from my heat and soul.  I hope you enjoy hearing it as much as I did making it.  From my heart...to your ears....#/Artist/Title/Remix01. Pulling this podcast together was both incredibly easy -- and hard, all at once. Easy...because of how much breathtaking music I had to choose from. And hard...because of, well, how much breathtaking music I had to choose from! You see the predicament. ;-)If you're a follower of mine on one of the various streaming sites then you you've probably seen that it's been a good spell since I've been able to mix for you. Life has just had so much else on my plate. The good thing though is that through the "quiet spell" I never stop sourcing the music. I go through life with my eyes, ears and heart wide open. The gathering of music never ends. The benefit is that when I do finally find the time to mix...I am overwhelmed with gorgeous music (and emotions!). And now it brings me unspeakable joy to share it with you. This is a very special collection of music. The skeleton list that I compiled to choose the final tracks from was over 70 songs long. Because I limit all of my mix sets below 80 minutes it means you'll hear 14 of the best of the best of what I've found. I guess that's the "bad" news. The good news is that I've got no shortage of tracks for upcoming mixes. ;-)This edition features records by worldwide superstars Above & Beyond, Kygo, Sultan + Shepard, Shallou, Forester, Tinlicker, Eli & Fur, KC Lights, Claptone and more. I'd say it really IS a collection of the best of the best in chill and deep house. I'm always unsure of how my Chill sets will be received because it's pretty rare to hear this genre of music mixed into a DJ set.  I wouldn't say the music is rare, per se.  I'd just say that it being mixed as a DJ set is.  But I was always attracted to the melodic and emotional side of music and I have always insisted on having my heart lead the way on my musical endeavors -- so here we are. From the very beginning I tried to stay true to myself and not allow a desire to please the masses cause me or my sound to change. If you've been listening to me for years then you know that my sound is two things at once:  nothing like was in the early years and exactly the same as it ever was. Seems crazy, but it's true.  I wear this as  badge of honor.  If you're a new follower of mine...I ask you to keep an open mind.  You've probably not heard any of this music presented in a DJ mixed format.  For me...it's both super easy and astonishingly hard to do sets like this.  Because this music pushes my buttons in all the right ways...it's super easy to conceive because my heart is the driver.  But technically it's almost impossible to mix music like this together.  So I have to be crazy clever and creative in how I do my blends.  Please do forgive me if a mix or two is less than perfect.  Essentially none of these songs were formatted to be mixed in the way I that I do it.  About this music:  This is the very same music that I present on my Sophisticated Morning sets, just chugging along at a considerably slower pace (102 to 107 bpm).  I've intentionally designed this series to be versatile enough to be anything from "typical everyday background music" to "dancing your way into the late night/early morning hours" music. OK enough of my ramblings.  On to the music.  As always...I've mixed this set with every ounce of love that I've got to give.  From my heart...to your ears. #/Artist/Title/Remix01.  Matoma, A R I Z O N A/Heart So Big02.  Patrick Baker/Don't Think Twice, It's Alright03.  LVNDSCAPE/Dive/Extended Mix04.  Becky Hill/You Got The Love/Live In London05.  Jules Buckley/Sweet Harmony/Original Mix06.  Olivia Sebastianelli/Wishing Well/Extended Mix07.  Kygo/Permanent/Original Mix08.  Christina Novelli/Beautiful/Extended Mix09.  DJ Licious/Ripples/Extended Mix10.  Able Faces/Without You/Extended Mix11.  Dutchkid/Light On/Original Mix12.  Forester/Radio Snow/Original Mix13.  ODESZA/Light Of Day/Original Mix14.  Zara Larsson/With Every Heartbeat/Orchestral Version15.  Du0/Lost For A Little While/Original Version16.  We The Lion/You/Original VersionFOR WORLDWIDE DJ BOOKING INFORMATION:Phone:  615-418-8900Email:  IamBrianNorwood@gmail.comFacebook:  Brian NorwoodInstagram:  DJ Brian Norwood

Heart. That's the word that comes to mind when I think about my newest musical journey. I guess when I think about it I can say that I'm blessed to have always been very in touch with my heart and not afraid to share it with others. And that's where you come in. This is a collaboration -- and I'm happy it's between you and me.As far as this production goes...one would say it's a tale of two mixes. The first part is a breezy chill-house affair anchored by gentle vocals that pull at the heartstrings. These are records that I've specifically picked for not only the sound they convey but also the words that they contain. Listen closely. There's messages to be had here. From there I move the mix into sturdy and powerful deep-heart anthems. The sounds may transition from pop oriented chill house to a deeper and more serious sound -- but the heart and emotion stays intact. I've always been intrigued with finding records that are deep, anthemic and emotional all at once -- and I'm particularly excited for you to hear these new ones.As always...this set is a gift from my heart to yours. Hello my fellow music-lover.  Good to be back with you again after a too-long absence.  Life has had too much on my plate and I've not had lots of extra time to create a set...until now.  Just in time, right?  Spring is in the air.  The sun is out.  The air is warm.  The birds are chirping.  And here's new music to match the season. I'm always excited about releasing a new music project.  But I'm particularly excited about this set.  Maybe it's because it's been a few months since I've created a set.  I do have a good story to accompany the mix.  I was actually going to release this a week ago -- but I was having reservations about a couple of the songs on the mix.  First, I wasn't really *feeling* the opening song and I'm a huge believer that the opening song is possibly the most important song of the mix (if there is one?) as it sets the stage for what's to come.  Just as I know from the first note if I like a song or not...I believe that YOU should know from the first note of my set whether you are going to like the journey (or not).  There was also another song or two later in the mix that didn't quite gel with the rest of them. So....I held off and didn't push the mix out.  Fast forward to yesterday morning and I was on a call with my friend Michael Rackley and...as we always do...we started talking about music.  We're DJs.  What else are we supposed to talk about? ;-)  He asked me if I had heard the new Galantis acoustic mix of Becky Hill's "Run".  I hadn't!  He the asked if I had heard Gryffin's new collaboration with OneRepublic "You Were Loved".  I hadn't heard that either.  Well, there you go.  There's your first two songs on the set.  Thank you Michael for solving the problem of what to open my set with.  It's a big and powerful heart-tugging acoustic anthem and I hope that you love it as much as I (WE) do.  From there I weave my way through my signature deep house soothers that segue into uplifting vocal anthems that again segue into driving spine-chilling instrumental masterpieces.  They segues are subtle;  you will hardly notice as I push the energy and intensity higher.  If you're a Flagger...your Flags are going to end up in whipped excitement.  If you're a Dancer....your hands will reach for the sky.  Eyes closed.  Hands high.  As always this music project is an act of LOVE.  Every note, tone and word you hear is rooted in Love.  From my heart...to your ears...ENJOY. PS:  One of you turned me on to the third song "Starlit Afternoon" by Craig Strickland and I can't remember which one of you did.  THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for doing so.  I'm in love with it and it's on constant rotation with me.  AMAZING. #/Artist/Title/Remix01.  Becky Hill/Run/Galantis Acoustic02.  OneRepublic/You Were Loved/Gryffin Original03.  Craig Strickland/Starlit Afternoon04.  Nathan Nicholson/Saint Louis/Original Mix05.  Christian Burns/Tigers/LIVA Extended Mix06.  Moby/Almost Home/Sebastien Remix07.  Linney/Lullaby/Le Youth Extended Mix08.  Linney/Stay With Me/AVIRA Extended Mix09.  Sam Gray/Wild Feelings/Extended Mix10.  Brandon Mignacca/Searchlight/Elypsis Extended11.  ARTY/So Good To Me/Extended Mix12.  RBBTS/Lighthouse/Le Youth Extended Mix13.  Magnus/Heaven/Extended Mix14.  Nora En Pure/Tribe Of Kindness/Extended Mix15.  Chicane/Sunstroke/Disco Citizens Evolution MixFOR WORLDWIDE DJ BOOKING INFORMATION:Phone:  615-418-8900Email:  IAMBRIANNORWOOD@GMAIL.COMInsta:  DJ Brian NorwoodFacebook:  Brian Norwood

Of all the music that I mix and present it's the heartfelt deep house music that I love the most.  And it's been more than three months since I released a Sophisticated Morning set -- so I'm crazy excited to bring this new edition to you.  This mix has music by the best and most current chill and deep house artists, producers and remixers including Forester, Shallou, GoldFish, Matoma, Zak Abel, Robin Schulz, Alle Farben, KC Lights and even Bono & The Edge of U2 fame.  I start the mix in my signature emotionally warm and rich sound and slowly ramp the mix up into euphoric deep house anthems that will have you dancing, flagging, tapping, shimmying, wiggling and smiling ear to ear.  And with that...let's get on to the music.  Every song on this set was mixed with love and originated from my heart -- so settle in and prepare for a euphoric heart trip!  As I always say...from my HEART...to your EARS.  #/Artist/Title/Remix01.  Shallou/Corners/Original Mix02.  Max Vidima/Going Home/GoldFish Original03.  Forester/To Feel Alive/Original Mix04.  Madeline/Heart/Forester Original Mix05.  Zak Abel/Be Kind/Keanu Silva Remix06.  Carl Wallis/No No No/Extended Mix07.  BullySongs/Take Me To The Sunshine/Matoma Original08.  JP Cooper/Runaway/Sigala Extended Mix09.  Rag 'n' Bone Man/Fall In Love Again/Mistajam Extended10.  Bono & The Edge/We Are The People/Martin Garrix Original11.  Youngr/Back 2 U/Extended Mix12.  Dennis Lloyd/Young Right Now/Robin Schulz Extended13.  Kiddo/Alright/Alle Farben Extended Mix14.  Linney/Lullaby/Le Youth Extended Mix15.  Tritonal/Losing My Mind/djimboh Extended Remix16.  KC Lights/Girl/6AM Extended Mix17.  Kye Stones/Hold On/KC Lights Original MixFOR WORLDWIDE DJ BOOKING INFORMATION:Phone:  202-766-6880Email:  JohnBrianNorwood@me.comInsta:  DJ Brian NorwoodFacebook:  Brian Norwood

Let me tell you an awesome story.  I played Epic Maui Journey on the beach every year for 7 years (until 2021 of course) and we were hoping for its return in 2022.  Unfortunately because of restrictions on Maui that were lifted too late to give most people time to plan we weren't able to pull together an official party again.  But 2020 and 2021 being what they had been (especially to me personally) I decided to go ahead and go to Maui this year -- official party or not.  I assumed it would be a very small gathering of maybe 10 of us.  It mattered not.  I wanted to be on Maui with Billy and the few friends I knew were going.  Imagine my surprise when I got there and realized that several dozen of our closest friends had made the journey to experience the magic.  We were smart enough to have a large enough of a sound system that we were able to permeate the beach with outstanding sound -- something we knew was a must even if there had been only 5 of us on the beach.  Amazingly enough...even though there was no party per se...well, one happened anyway.  There must have been between 50-75 of us on the beach that day and the same magic happened as it always does.  The music was loud, the love was abundant and the magic was real.  One very special thing that got to happen this year was that I was not held captive behind the DJ booth performing live.  There was no live set from me; only pre-recorded music that then allowed me to play and frolic with my friends and allowed me to see this party through their eyes and experience it just as they always have.  Wow.  Let me tell you what a rare and magical experience it is.  I always knew it was.  But to experience it from "the other side" of the DJ booth was very special for me (and something I'm actually considering for next year).  More on that later.  Originally Billy and I had decided that this year would not be called EMJ8 because it wasn't *official*.  But upon it happening the way it did we have decided that we would in fact called this year #8 and next year #9.  But because of the outpouring of love and support from so many people the party really did happen - if only a little different this year. So....prepare for number NINE next year.  ;-)Now...about this music:  Sunsets are serious business.  They are big, powerful and mysterious.  Knowing that I decided to pre-record one set for the hour of the day that is most special to me (and surely everyone else there) and call it The Golden Hour.  These are the hours where late afternoon is awash in a golden hue that is almost indescribable.  So it was important to me to put together a big, powerful and mysterious soundtrack to match the big, powerful and mysterious show that the Sun was giving us.  And now that recording is my gift to you.  It's important to keep the scenery in mind as you listen to this set.  I specifically chose these songs for how they would affect us in that very moment.  These are songs that were chosen to pull at our heartstrings as the giant golden globe was casting it's mysterious glow upon us as it slipped below the horizon of the Pacific.  And as it slipped below the horizon we all burst into thunderous applause -- and all was right with the world -- if just for that very moment.  From my heart -- to your ears.  #/Artist/Title/Remix01.  Solarstone/Seven Cities/Highlandr Extneded02.  Sigma/Hope/KC Lights Extended03.  Echoes/Human/John Summit Extended Mix04.  Paul Reid/Cafe Del Mar/White Island Re-Work05.  York/On The Beach/Kryder & JenJammin Sax Mix06.  Robert Miles/Children/Tinlicker Extended Mix07.  Thrillseekers/Amber/Hydra's Altered State Mix08.  Roy Rosenfeld/The Biggest Heart/Original Mix09.  Keymos/Sky Cities/Extended Mix10.  Craig Armstrong/Marelle/Paul Oakenfold Remix11.  Sons of Maria/Right Here/Extended Mix12.  Solid Sessions/Janeiro/Jody Wisternoff Extended

Here is New Year's Eve in Detroit -- Part 2. I should note that the four parts that I'm going to upload don't flow together seamlessly. They all have quite distinctive feels that are quite different from the others. Since these are samplers of what the night would have sounded like live I wanted to neatly orchestrate these podcasts so that they would showcase various points in the night. In this sampler I showcase melodic tech and progressive house with wicked percussion riding along rolling baselines, shiny horns and infectious grooves. The mix eventually gives way to vaguely familiar rhythms and melodies -- all while still keeping the sound firmly rooted in *today*. I would say that this is a set that has an amazing energetic foundation while still keeping an uplifting overall feel. As always...every sound, rhythm and vibe originated in my heart! Conceptualizing the music for Alan Brown's New Year's Eve party in Detroit was an incredible endeavor in joy for me as I got to get really creative with the musical journey. I should note that this is not a live recording. Unfortunately this party was cancelled at the last minute due to the omicon varient but we thought that the music should still be heard -- live or not. That being said...if you've been listening to me long enough then you know that I treat my live performances as journeys that create a clearly defined music arc. All-night affairs like this give me the elbow room to weave through different genres from the beginning and through the rise, peak and post-peak phases of such a party. Detroit having it's place in history as Motown...I would have been remiss to not throw in both subtle and unsubtle references to Motown. So for this beginning set I conceptualized a vaguely familiar (yet fresh) sound that included hits by the BeeGees, Michael Jackson, Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, Dua Lipa and more. Remixers include Purple Disco Machine, Tensnake, Barry Harris and more to create a sound of disco-centric house, nu-disco and full on uplifting house music. This sound is just familiar enough to allow the crowd to feel nostalgic for yesteryear while being fresh and current enough to be firmly planted in the sound of *today*. Now...on to the music. I hope you love this groovy and uplifting set. From my heart....to your ears -- ENJOY!#/Artist/Title/Remix01. Ian Ossia/Moves At Midnight/Original Mix02. One of the awesome things about having been around and immersed in music for as long as I've been is that I know songs from years ago and the general history of music that surrounds those songs -- and that knowledge guides me through my current musical projects.  One of my major sources of joy is finding new remixes of songs from years ago that are fresh, intriguing and current with the times.  And with that I'm super excited to bring you Sophisticated Morning 84.  This set follows my tried and true template by starting out chill and emotionally warm and then slowly and subtly building in intensity until my listener has arrived into full blown feel-good anthems.  On this set I am really excited to bring you the new Seal release called "Just A Ghost".  I always loved his voice and am so happy to hear that he's still gracing us with his brilliance and beauty.  My three stunning recognizable finds on this edition are "On The Beach" by York (originally by Chris Rea),  "This Is Your Life" (a stunning morning house classic from the 90s by Banderas) and last, but not least, the stunning, powerful and spine-chilling 2021remix of "Silence" by Delerium.  By the time you finish listening to this set...I hope you'll have the same blissed out chill bumps that I got time and again while composing this DJ set.  As always...this project was made with every Love I've got to give.  From my heart...to your ears.#/Artist/Title/Remix01.  Elderbrook/I Remember/PDM Original Mix02.  Mayra/You Are A Traveler/Tidal Waves Extended03.  Jonas Myrin/For The Ones We Love/Axel E Remix04.  Seal/Just A Ghost/Claptone Extended Mix05.  Jerro/Too Weak/Original Mix06.  Fractures/Leave Me Here/Jerro Original Mix07.  Sudad G/This Is Your Life/Afro Summer Remix08.  Amega/Want To Run Away/Newman I Love Original09.  Mats Westbroek/Miracle/Extended Mix10.  York/On The Beach/Kryder & JenJammin Sax Edit11.  Diana Leah/Come To Life/Extended Mix12.  Shouse/Love Tonight/Robin Schulz Extended Mix13.  M-22/Need You There/Extended Mix14.  DJ Licious/Fun/Extended Mix15.  Delerium/Silence/Antrim 2021 RemixFOR WORLDWIDE DJ BOOKING INFORMATION:Phone:  202-766-6880Email:  IamBrianNorwood@gmail.comInstagram:  DJ Brian NorwoodFacebook:  Brian Norwood

I was lucky enough to have come of age during the glory years of the 90s when clubbing was in it's youthful years and it wasn't pounding beats far into the next morning/day.  During those years the transition from late night to the early morning hours at clubs and parties were notable for the slowing of the BPM tempo as the music settled into a melodic and emotionally-rich groove.  One could hear and dance to the most spine-chilling music imaginable  as the DJ (me) slowly allowed the crowds to come down from the ecstatic euphoria from the peak of the night.  Those morning time hours were and still are my favorite aspect of the journey.  Fast forward to now:  these Sophisticated Chill sets are largely a result of my having come of age during that time and are my nod to it all.  One important note is that all the music on these sets is fresh and new.  Although the style of music is a nod to the past...the actual music is a nod to the here and now.  Times have changed and I have changed too.  But what hasn't changed is my commitment to providing you, my listeners, touching and emotionally uplifting music whether you be on a dance floor at 6AM or you're cleaning your house, going for a run, Flagging in your living room or driving home from a long day at work.  This is music that transcends atmospheres.  I hope that you receive it with as much joy as I give it after having conceived and composed it.  This is my gift and my labor of love for you.  From my heart...to your ears.  Enjoy!#/Artist/Title/Remix01.  Paul Oakenfold/The World Can Wait/John Askew Downtempo Mix02.  Black Eye Peas/Where Is The Love/Clement BCX Rework)03.  Gareth Emery/Way To You/Original Mix04.  Alan Walker, Ruben/Heading Home/Original Mix05.  Chicane/Saltwater/Chicane's Slow Tide Extended Remix06.  Shallou/All Your Days/Original Mix07.  GoldFish/Hold Your Kite/Original Mix08.  FDVM, Madism/Forget The World/Original Mix09.  Kesha/Stronger/Sam Feldt Extended Remix10.  LVNDSCAPE/What I'd Give/Extended Mix11.  Dakota/All I Think Of Is You/Alex Gaudino & Kellerman Mix12.  Wrabel/Moon Rider/Jai Wolf Original Mix13.  Lost Kings/Don't Call/Original Mix14.  Aexcit/What We Do/Extended Re-Edit15.  GoldFish/Everlasting Love/Extended Mix16.  Elton John, Dua Lipa/Cold Heart/PNAU Remix17.  American Authors, SeeB/Best I Can/Petey Remix18.  Rogelio Douglas Jr./Better Man/Klingande Extended MixFOR WORLDWIDE DJ BOOKING INFORMATION:Phone:  202-766-6880Email:  JohnBrianNorwood@me.comFacebook:  Brian NorwoodInstagram:  DJ Brian Norwood

On all of my DJ sets I always have one or two songs that are my absolute favorites from the bunch; the songs that I listen to on repeat, over and over and over again. Well...almost unbelievably...there are about 6 or 7 of those songs on this new Morning set. These are songs that would have a legitimate shot at my "record of the year" title. Sometimes...luck, fate and circumstances deliver me the opportunity to deliver one of the very, very, VERY special sets of music that stands out amongst all of them...and that is what has happened with this set. Regarding the actual music...you might could say this is a tale of two mixes. The first half is full of emotional deep house ballads and anthems that yank at one's heartstrings and send emotions soaring. The second half bounds into powerful progressive house anthems, some with vocals, some so powerful that no vocals are needed. All pieced together...I believe that it's one of my best compositions in a long long time. I dearly hope you'll agree. As I always say...from my HEART...to your ears. Enjoy!#/Arist/Title/Remix01. I have always been a huge fan of many different genres of music and that's been a real blessing to me as a person but in some regards I consider it a slight curse -- as an artist.  Let me explain that so that it makes sense.  Personally I love many different genres of music -- some that might surprise you.  I love disco, tech house, techno...and the list goes on and on and on.  You probably don't know me much for those sounds because I don't push them forward very often in my podcast sets.  What you probably know me most for is my chill and deep house sets.  I decided a good few years ago that it was important that I try as hard as I could to "brand" myself in a particular way...so as to not confuse the listeners who came upon me.  Artistry is important but branding is also extremely important.  As an artist one never wants to confuse their audience.  So...I decided to work hard to "stay in my lane" since it was one that I love passionately and consider myself to be pretty good at.  If you listen to my (Sophisticated) Morning, Deep and Chill sets you will hear direct similarities in them.  They all fit nicely together running what I call "parallel to the dance floor".  They are kind of dance floor friendly....but also kind of not.  All that being said...I AM a child of the dance floor.  I love to dance and I love to DJ to dance floors.  That brings me to this newest podcast, Fire Island House Music 8.  Every summer I have released a Fire Island House Music set because I love house music so much and as a gift to my many listeners who I know love it as much as I do.  Two weeks ago I released #7 in this series and was totally blown away by the outreach from my listeners in response to it.  I actually can't remember the last time I received response like this to a music set.  I've had phone calls, direct messages and even had people calling me through Facebook Messenger.  House and disco house are what I mainly spin at my live performances but feeling and seeing your response to that last Fire Island House set has motivated me to start pushing more of them out via podcast.  If I confuse a person or two....well, so be it.  I'm going to listen to you (and my heart).  From my heart...to your ears...ENJOY!#/Artist/Title/Remix01.  Black Box/I Don't Know Anybody Else/Motown Disco Anthem02.  Mark Knight/Love Is All We're Living For/Extended Mix03.  Ten City/Be Free/Emmaculate & Sharon Chambers Extended04.  Disco Incorporated/Disco Piano/Vocal Disco House Mix05.  Platinum City/Holy Spirit/Mark Brickman Remix06.  Coree Mathews/Believe In You/Yam Who? If you've ever been to either the Pines or Cherry Grove on Fire Island...then you've been blessed to experience what I say is the closest thing to heaven on earth.  Fire Island is truly a place like no other.  Starting with the moment you get onto the ferry in Sayville to carry you over and continuing on with every single moment you're there...there's something magically different about it.  That difference definitely includes the music.  And no matter the time -- 3AM or 3PM -- as you walk you'll ALWAYS hear music wafting through the air from the stunning houses that dot the boardwalks.  And we're not talking just any music.  It's OUR music.  There's a very particular sound that permeates the island.  What is that sound?  Well, I'd say it's classic house music with major influences from soul and disco. This is house music that has stunning melodies, rhythms and vibes.  It's sometimes sweeping and soaring, sometimes laden with gospel choirs and sometimes groovy and hip shaking.  But what it always is is classic and timeless. It's versatile enough that it's perfect for lazy days by the pool or for hands-in-the-air nights at the club.  Every year as Summer shines upon us I mix this set with a nod to the island.  For those of you that have experienced this magic...then you know what I've just described is magically true and accurate.  And if you haven't experienced it...then I hope that you can close your eyes and visualize the beauty of the island as the mix plays along.  As always, I've mixed this set with every ounce of love that I've got to give.  From my heart...to your ears.  ENJOY!!!#/Artist/Title/Remix01.  Janice Robinson/There Must Be Love/Disco Juice Piano Intro Mix02.  Dimitri From Paris/Music Saved My Life/Extended Discomix03.  Janice Robinson/Freedom/Epic Classic Mix04.  Tracy Hamlin/I Stopped Loving You/Richard Earnshaw Revision05.  Beverley Knight/Everything's Gonna Be Alright/Extended Mix06.  DJ Marlon/Open Your Love/Kevin McKay Extended Remix07.  Barbara Tucker/Most Precious Love/Sebastian Creeps & Julian Back Remix08.  Bakermat/The Spirit/Extended Mix09.  LaShun Pace/Ain't Nobody/Extended Mix10.  David Penn/Hallelujah/Odyssey Inc. You hear me talk a lot about what I call "heart-tuggers"; songs that pull at your heartstrings. I've always had a weak spot for those types of songs because I find music so much more enjoyable when the songs I'm listening to really pull some sort of strong emotion from me. Really, what's the point of music if it isn't going to affect us (and hopefully for the better)? I'm all about messaging in my music, whether it's by spoken lyrics or through the tones, chords and vibes that we are soaking in while listening. It's all affecting both our conscious and subconscious. With this new Deep episode I am beside myself with excitement by the messages that the Sprit has brought to me...and I therefore get to bring to you. As is the usual case there are very few vocals to be found on this (Deep) mix. But I do open with two vocal pieces."Wide Eyed" by Double Touch and "Music Is My Medicine". The lyrics on both pieces just spoke to me so powerfully so I broke my "no vocals on my Deep series sets" and am happy I did so. Upon listening I'm sure you'll get it. From there I glide through the most sublime, mysterious, entrancing and exotic pieces of melodic house, gently pushing up the energy as the set progresses. I've always believed that the job is a true artist DJ is like walking a tightrope in that it's imperative to deliver music to listeners that they easily latch on to and identify with while at the same time staying true to the artistry aspect of it all by playing fresh and unique music that has a great air of surprise and mystique to it. It's always a delicate balance. Play too much of the music that's easy to latch on to and the DJ risks being more juke box than artist. Play too much unique and unknown music and the DJ risks alienating his audience by not giving them the vague familiarity that almost all of us seek in our experiences. Those facts are always on my mind. I want to be the perfect artist DJ for you by delivering fresh, new and unknown music to you while still including you in the process by finding things that you yourself know. That brings me to this, my newest DJ mix. I believe I've found the perfect balance here in bringing you the best in both "known and unknown". This set includes the outstanding new remake of the Cyndi Lauper's classic "True Colors" by Sam Smith, a breathtaking new remake of "Sweet Child O' Mine" by Guns N' Roses, fresh new remixes of Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams" and "Living On My Own" by Freddie Mercury. All surrounded by the most gorgeous and emotionally-rich chill and deep house of today. My goal has been to pull at your heartstrings...and I dearly hope to have succeeded. When I first started DJing in my early 20s I had no idea of the magical ride I was about to embark upon. Few things seem to be forever, but one thing that I've discovered as the years have rolled along...is that there are two things that have been "forever" in my life: my drive to deliver love and joy through music and also the enduring friendships that I share with so many of you through that music. To say I'm grateful for both would truly be the greatest understatement ever made. So...let me thank you for sharing this incredible life journey with me by delivering another set to touch your heart. I sometimes pinch myself to make sure it's all real. Luckily..it IS. OK. Enough of my mushy talk. Let's get on to the music. This latest Chill mix is a collection of what I call "heart-tuggers". These songs get right down into your core, touching you in the most happy and loving way. I hope you agree with me when you listen...and that a sense of peace and joy overwhelms you. I've been thinking about life lately; where I've been, where I am and where I'm going. I've been thinking about the musical traditions and history that involve our gay culture and subculture. I consider myself so fortunate to have come of age when I did. The second Summer of Love from the summer of '88 had recently happened and ballooned into a full-on worldwide phenomenon resulting in music that was being produced at the time that was melodic, heartfelt and emotionally rich. Those were the "golden years" musically. I entered gay (sub)culture in the mid-90's and I was largely shaped by Susan Morabito, Michael Fierman, BUC, Jimmy Gomez, Sasha, John Digweed, the Brothers In Rhythm and too many more to count. These were (are) DJs that taught me to tell stories through music. Music ended up changing as the decade moved along, but I didn't (musically). So that's where I was. But where am I now? I'm proud to say very much the same place I always was. That being said...I pride myself on playing *only* new releases by current superstars or emerging artists. So I'm constantly looking backwards with a remembrance of the traditions and history that I came from but with my eye firmly on the who and what of now. Where will I will be in the future? I can't say exactly. But if history serves as a guide....I do know. Exactly. #/Artist/Title/Remix 01. Zeeba/With Me/Acoustic 02. James Arthur/Lasting Lover/Acoustic 03. One of the best things that 2020 brought me...was my discovery of "the" sound for my Deep series. If you've listened to me long enough then you'll know that there's a wide range of styles of music that I love. As a music lover, that's awesome! But as an artist it's not great as it pertains to defining my "brand". When I conceptualized the Deep series...I knew I wanted something, well, deep. But deep house music takes on many forms. The first 8 episodes of this series were a variety of styles within the deep house category. I wouldn't say there was a defined style yet. I was still searching (even though I may not have even known it at the time). Then I mixed #9 and that changed everything. As it turned out...#9 had a very specific sound to it. It was ethereal, and entrancing, exotic and enchanting. As I studied it upon it's completion I was blown away. It was intentional and accidental, all at once. Fast forward to now; it is all my pleasure to bring you Deep 15. I wanted to bring a little surprise to my followers who were on my dance floors in the 90's so I dug up the classic "Beachball" by Nalin & Kane, assuredly one of the most notable international dance hits of the decade. And from there I float through brand new melodic and organic house, bringing up the intensity ever so gently so that by the time the episode is coming to a conclusion you have arrived into full on Melodic anthems without even realizing it. For this I'm very proud. The first half of the mix is somewhat subdued, with an introspective and entrancing feel to it. The second half is sometimes mysterious and symphonic, sometimes worldly and tribal. I hope you enjoy this little trip around the world I take you on. You'll know what I mean when at one moment you feel as though you're in feeling the serenity of a seaside village and the next you've been transported to the enchanting lands of the Middle East. This trip was brought to you with all the love I've got to give. Share it freely, share it widely. It is my gift to you and our shared universe. From my Heart...to your ears. This new edition in my Sophisticated Morning series is extremely special to me (and I hope it will be to you too). If you've been following me long enough or if you know me well then you'll know that I look at my musical endeavors as much more than me just serving beats to people wanting to party. I think of my music as serving a greater purpose so I go out of my way to have my music deliver messaging, whether it be consciously or subconsciously. Interestingly enough there are several songs on this edition that found me; I didn't find them. The words were so specific to this moment in my life that I was almost bewildered that they could have come to me exactly when they did. That being said...please, PLEASE listen closely to the words on this edition. Some are songs that spoke to me at this moment in my life and some are my love songs to you, my friend. I would be remiss if I let this moment pass and not say thank you to many of you who love me and supported me through the last couple of months. I always knew there was a special bond between us...but I gained an even greater understanding of that bond through this moment in life. Thank you for the love that you showered me with and the support you gave me when I needed it most. I hope that you'll let me give that love back to you in the best way I know how...through this gift of music. With love, Me. #/Artist/Title/Remix 01. What a gorgeous collection of songs this newest Sophisticated Morning is. I start the set out with the heart-tugging acoustic mix of "All On Me" with Andreas Moe on vocals (produced by Armin van Buuren) and then weave my way through warm and emotionally rich morning music before subtly ending up on a sound of gorgeous and uplifting trance music. Have you been following me long enough to have been on my dance floors back in the 1990s? If you have been then you'll know that I have a big love of trance music. And if you haven't been along for the ride with me that long....well, now you know! There are elements of trance in all of the songs towards the beginning of the set and elements of morning music in all of the latter trance pieces -- so the trip is smooth and subtle. These are songs with emotional chords, melodies and rhythms that will pull at your heartstrings no doubt. I hope that you receive as much joy as you listen as I did conceiving the set. It's a fine line that I walk as it pertains to keeping the sound of the various mix series podcasts that I release constant and steady, especially with the Sophisticated Deep series. It's super important that I keep the sound tightly confined within the genre that the series belongs to but equally important that I present enough diversity that the mixes don't become stale or all sound alike. That brings us to Sophisticated Deep 14. This one presented me a particular challenge in keeping the sound consistent from beginning to end because of how unique the song selections are. I think I succeeded and hope that you'll agree. These songs are as unique as you'll hear; sounds that are blues-y and twangy at times and exotic and Middle-Eastern sounding at others. I believe that the end result is a rich and nuanced musical smorgasbord. This is a sound that is versatile; perfect for dancing into the wee hours of the morning or as the background music to your daily routine. You pick. If you are reading this then most likely you were no stranger to dance floors and the beautiful music that has graced us over the past decades. One of most important ingredients in the DJ/listener relationship is trust. I believe that the most successful DJs are the ones that figure out how to convince a crowd to trust them so that they may have the liberty of being a true artist -- versus being a human juke box that plays what is demanded of them. Playing what's demanded of me always seemed so boring -- and insulting truthfully. I would much rather stand my ground, play from my heart and while doing it build a following of listeners that trust me to lead them somewhere mysterious -- and beautiful. And because I know that people are trusting me it makes me take the responsibility that much more seriously. While I am an artist and I insist on creating a distinctive sound...it is also true that I myself am molded by outside influences. One influence that touched and affected me almost more than any other that I've ever encountered is the Burning Man community. 2016 was my first year and I was blessed with playing both at FunkyTown camp and also on BAAAHS on the deep Playa. If you're a Burner then you know exactly where I'm coming from here. Why am I telling you all this? Because it's all directly related to my new Sophisticated Deep 13 mix. Upon listening to this set you will hear faint touches of the Playa. It's not in-your-face obvious, but it's there. If you've been following me enough then you know that a chill and loving beat is what I'm all about. I've been a DJ for over 25 years now and I've ALWAYS been known for "morning music" -- that sound that captures your heart and your soul. This is not party music (very much by design). It's songs, without words, that don't need words. It is firmly rooted in the late night/early morning hours. I believe that if one concentrates closely enough that they will extract powerful messages -- no words needed. What are the messages in this music. I'll let you decide but for me...It's all about love and peace and spirituality. Thank you for trusting me enough to share it with you (and I hope I don't let you down). Now...enough of my babbling. On to the music! From the my heart, by way of the Playa, ENJOY. #/Artist/Title/Remix 01. Marsh/Come Together/Accapella 02. Chris Domingo, Mariner/Child/Original Mix 03. Welcome to Sophisticated Chill 9, the slower sibling to my Morning series. The music that I source and play for the Chill sets have very much the same feel as the Morning sets -- with the only difference being that they chug along at a slower pace. This Chill set clocks in between 105 & 110 bpm, whereas the Morning sets groove along at about 120 bpm. Otherwise you'd really not know the difference. Same artists, same feel, same love. I'm especially excited about this particular set, as I have remixes/remakes of notable artists such as Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, Foreigner and Men At Work. Welcome to Sophisticated Deep 12. The Deep series has fast become a favorite of mine to mix. It's what I call the deeper, sturdier and more worldly sibling to my Sophisticated Morning series. These songs have the same warmth and melody that the Morning series has but are largely missing the vocals. The music that I find for the Deep series is sometimes deep and meditative, sometimes sweeping and symphonic and sometimes exotic and worldly. The common denominator is always a sound and rhythm that is intoxicating and hypnotizing. I hope that you enjoy this set as much as I loved making it and I hope that you hear and FEEL the love that I put into it. My DJ sets are true labors of love and I hope that it comes across to you as you hear and experience them. This is the continuation of the Flagging In The Desert Party that I spun in Palm Springs on February 29, 2020. It was a day full of sunshine, bliss, laughter and love. How lucky were all were to have squeaked this amazing day in right before everything came to a full stop. This segment of the day was full of feel-good vibes and uplifting anthems. Lots of energy. As always, I hope you enjoy what I did and where I went. From my heart...to your ears....! #/Artist/Title/Remix 01. Kort/Joy/Kort's Vocal Mix 02. Marco Lys/Who Dares To Believe In Me/Extended 03.
