It's December 25th, and Christmas has finally come to Otaku Town – and with it, the final episode of Part 2 of our Kyoto Vacation. For today's very special episode, we are finishing our journey through the world of Haruhi Suzumiya with the 2010 film The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, the nearly-three-hour climactic story in Kyoto Animation's beloved adaptation of Nagaru Tanigawa's light novels. It's an absolute masterpiece of a film, telling its story of Kyon waking up in a world without the SOS Brigade patiently and tenderly, and building to a series of incredibly powerful emotional climaxes. It is also a truly beautiful Christmas movie in the vein of A Christmas Carol or It's a Wonderful Life, and one of the very best of its kind, making it the perfect film to celebrate the holiday and ring out what has been a very big 2023 for Japanimation Station! On May 7, 2021, a helpless seven-week-old infant was reported missing from his mother's apartment in Washington, DC, but police were alarmed when they learned that baby Kyon Jones had been gone for two days by the time his disappearance was reported. After his mother gave several conflicting statements, both to police and to the public through a Facebook live interview with a local activist, it became clear that Kyon would not be located alive. This is the story of a baby boy who never stood a chance. It's also the story of a woman whose problems with drugs, alcohol, domestic violence, and mental illness made her the very last person who should be a parent, but who gave birth to several children, the last of whom was baby Kyon. This is the frustrating story of Kyon Jones.Note: I recently told Kyon's story in Patreon-exclusive bonus minisode #7, but in light of recent events surrounding Kyon's case, I decided to adapt that minisode into a regular podcast episode.Links mentioned in this episode: DC's Missing Voice: https://www.facebook.com/dcmissingvoice/ Kyon Jones - Missing Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/309555657472597 Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook and Instagram:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodYou can also follow the podcast on: Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/sufferthelittlechildrenpodcast Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/STLCpodTumblr: https://www.tumblr.com/blog/sufferthelittlechildrenpodPinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpod My Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com.
