In this sermon, Executive Pastor Chris Dotson explores the concept of worship, emphasizing that it is not something we switch on and off but something we aim, arguing that while everyone worships, many mistakenly aim their worship at things other than God. He challenges listeners to redirect their worship toward God through gratitude and sacrifice, defining true worship as joy aimed at what we love most.

Even after a powerful season of revival, worship, and recommitment, Nehemiah 13 reminds us that spiritual compromise can still creep in—slowly, quietly, and often through seemingly justifiable reasons like family loyalty, fatigue, or cynicism. We must be vigilant against this drift, because compromise threatens the very holiness God calls us to. The Spirit of God gently convicts us, but we can learn to silence Him—grieving and eventually quenching His voice. But hope is not lost. Like Nehemiah, who corrected Israel's compromises with fierce love and persistent prayer—"Remember me, O my God"—we are invited to resist compromise by keeping our eyes on the eternal reward. Obedience may bring earthly loss, but heaven holds joy, honor, purpose, and the satisfaction of God's pleasure. We endure because the reward far outweighs the cost. The miracle of Jesus' finished work is not a license to sin but a motivation to live holy, Spirit-sensitive lives, storing up joy in heaven and stirring the joy of our Father even now.

Adam and Eve andthe deceptive nature and blame game in the garden. Corey and Shauna jump in this week for another “US VS THAT” episode focused on the concept of biblical marriage and how it relates to each of them as individuals. We take a look at the relationships we see in Genesis 3 and how both Adam and Eve play a role in the fall, and how they've seen this impact their marriage and life. What does it mean to have a biblical marriage? Is it cut and dry? We discuss big questions and talk about how conflict in our marriage felt like an opportunity for connection, and that we were sometimes fighting just to feel. We share our unique feelings, wants, and needs, and how scripture has challenged us to try onAgape Love, sacrificial love, like Jesus does so plainly throughout his ministry. Like Nehemiah, we each have our own role on the wall and in our marriage. Our shared heart for unity and oneness brings greater power and clarity to our unique and individual parts, but our eyes remain locked on Jesus with each step. Biblical Marriage, the 50/50 rule, blame cycle, feeling misunderstood, going around the same mountain, porcupine mode, imposter syndrome, self-doubt, and SO much more. This episode is jam-packed. ________________________________Seeking a greater relationship with Jesus but don't know where to start? The first generation experiencing a move of God has a deep, loving relationship with Jesus, resulting in a moral and righteous lifestyle. The generation after them has the same lifestyle without the relationship, and the third generation sees a form of godliness in their parents but without the power, which results in them casting off all restraints. We see examples of this phenomenon throughout the Bible. Whereas the previous week's word on this topic was directed towards people from the first generation, this week's is geared towards those who are part of the second generation. There is a responsibility on the first generation to make sure, by not only walking and modelling a lifestyle, but also to pray and make sure that the next generation has a vital, living relationship with Jesus. It is important for the second generation to tap into the same passion and vision of the first generation and avoid the trap of just maintaining a certain lifestyle, as well as the Hezekiah syndrome. In the Old Testament we read about Nehemiah refusing the third-generation phenomenon. He stood up and was counted in challenging and resisting the apathetic, unprincipled, lawless, and godless lifestyle of the third generation of that time. He saw it as essential that the Israelites recover their identity as God's people. In the same way, there must be a difference between the Church and the world, we have a responsibility to impart, build up and preserve in every generation a strong sense of identity and what it means to be a Christian. Every generation needs to know who they are in Christ. Our children need to be taught how to be strong in their convictions and be enabled to have answers to challenges and to withstand persecution. Like Nehemiah did, we need to tell the next generation of our history with God, so that they would understand our mandate as well as their individual purposes in the Body of Christ, enabling them to live intentionally. They must be encouraged to have a personal faith-walk with, and obedience to God. It is essential to teach the next generation ‘the Faith', i.e. what we believe and why we believe it. The next thing that needs to be passed on the following generation, is a burning passion for Jesus by perfectly modelling it. The next generation needs to remember the previous one and be able to consider the outcome of their way of life, imitating their faith. We read in the letters that Paul wrote to Timothy how he encouraged Timothy to fan into flame the faith that he had seen in his grandmother Louis and his mother Eunice, proof that it is indeed possible for three consecutive generations to walk and live in the same passion of faith. It is the third generation's responsibility is to keep feeding the flame of faith and passion that has been passed on to them.

Nehemiah, a cupbearer for the king prayed to God for forgiveness on behalf of his countrymen who had been exiled and banished to other countries and nations. While he and others worked hard to rebuild the walls and closed the gates of the city, they were humiliated, ridiculed, intimidated and threatened with death. They allowed nothing to stop their task. It was love of God, family, people, and their country that caused their faith and strength to remain strong allowing them to restore the country. Like Nehemiah, we MUST do the same.

And I enter into the strength of his "now word”, I open this word like a literal door and cross over to an elevated location in the spirit. It is not by might nor by power but it is by the spirit of God. I declare the spirit that is able to let both acceleration and excellence intersect abides with me, Like Nehemiah in the rebuilding of the walls, it will be done in record time without any compromise of quality. I receive skill and mastery in the things I build. I receive favour and influence with the people that I build alongside. Nehemiah 2:4-5 The king asked, “Well, how can I help you?” With a prayer to the God of heaven, I replied, “If it please the king, and if you are pleased with me, your servant, send me to Judah to rebuild the city where my ancestors are buried.” This was a terrifying moment. King Artaxerxes noticed that Nehemiah was looking sad. He could tell that there was something troubling his wine taster but Nehemiah had to be very careful with what he said. The king was extremely powerful and if he didn't like the answer it could have been the end for Nehemiah. We read that Nehemiah prayed. In the previous chapter we saw Nehemiah praying at great length but, at this point, time was of the essence. He could only offer up the briefest prayer to God. These ‘arrow' prayers are good. It is a blessing that in the midst of our busy lives we can offer God quick prayers, knowing that he will hear us. But it would be tragic if those were the only kind of prayers that we brought to God. It's the same in any relationship. If the only way I communicated with my wife was by brief greetings as we walked past one another, something would be deeply wrong. But because we talk easily and at length with one another, it is fine that some of our communications are brief. This was clearly the case in Nehemiah's relationship with God. In chapter 1 he spoke at great length to God over a number of days. His firmly established relationship with God meant that he knew he could speak to his heavenly Father at any time. Like Nehemiah, God wants us to enjoy spending leisurely time with him in prayer but also to offer the briefest of prayers, if that's all we can do, on busy days. Question When have arrow prayers been particularly important for you? Prayer Thank you Lord that you love to hear our prayers, both on those days when we have plenty of time to spend with you and on those days when we are in a constant hurry. Amen

Have you ever been faced with a huge task, afraid to take the first step even when you knew God had called you to it? Perhaps you had everything planned out, knew God was with you, and all that was left was to begin— returning to school, starting foster care classes, or sharing the gospel with that one person in your life. Beginning takes courage! And courage is exactly what we see in Nehemiah and the rest of the people of Jerusalem who would rally with him to rebuild the city’s walls. Once Nehemiah finished his reconnaissance mission to learn the lay of the land, he saw just in what a bad shape the city had been (vv. 13–16). Nehemiah gathered the rest of the people of Jerusalem and shared his vision with them. Most importantly, Nehemiah told them all God had already done for him, ensuring that this was not some hair-brained idea from a Persian official: “I also told them about the gracious hand of my God on me and what the king had said to me” (v. 18). Nehemiah’s testimony of God’s favor gave the people of Jerusalem the courage they needed to begin the enormous task: “They replied, ‘Let us start rebuilding.’ So they began this good work” (v. 18). Sometimes in our lives we will be like Nehemiah, called by God to lead for Him in a certain area, perhaps in our family or at our job. Other times we will be like the rest of the people in Jerusalem, called by God to follow someone as they lead out in a way God has called them to. Maybe you were given a family name—I'm named after my paternal grandfather—or maybe your name evokes a favorite song, or your parents just liked the way it sounds. In the Old Testament, names held special significance and could reveal something about the person, their story, or their God. For example, Abraham was called “the father of many nations” (Gen.17:5), Abel's name meant “breath” or “vapor,” and the mighty prophet Elijah's name meant “Yahweh is my God”—certainly a reminder he needed during the darkest days of his ministry. This month we are reading about Nehemiah whose name means “The Lord Comforts.” Now, most of us are familiar with the idea that God comforts His people, but put yourself in Nehemiah's shoes and the shoes of his original readers. God's people had been living in exile for decades—first under the rule of the Babylonians and then the Persians. Their country had been invaded, their best and brightest leaders forced into service, and untold numbers slaughtered before the rest were carted off into exile. What's more, God did all of this as punishment for His people's sin. It is hard to imagine the pain, difficulty, and disillusionment the Hebrew people must have experienced in exile, but I'm certain we can all relate to feeling loss or abandonment. Like Nehemiah's audience, we have walked through times where we desperately needed the Lord's comfort. Welcome listeners, to another episode of "The Power Of God's Whisper Podcast". Today, we delve into the life of Nehemiah as captured in Nehemiah 1:4, "When I heard this, I sat down and wept. In fact, for days I mourned, fasted, and prayed to the God of heaven." Like many of us, Nehemiah was in a place of despair and confusion, yearning to hear God's voice more than ever. As we navigate this journey together, we hope you find comfort and guidance in God's whisper. In the face of devastation and seemingly unfulfilled promises, it's easy to lose sight of God's hand in our lives. We question if the dreams we believed were God-given were, in fact, illusions. Nehemiah's grief over Jerusalem mirrors this sentiment, reflecting the deep sense of despair that can engulf us when our hopes appear dashed. This episode explores three key points to guide us when we are in the depths of despair and seeking clarity from God.Point One - The Role of Mourning: In the throes of despair, it's important to recognize the role of mourning and to allow ourselves to grieve. Like Nehemiah, in our moments of sadness, we are drawn into a deeper connection with God, opening a space for deeper prayer and reflection.Point Two - The Need for Clarity: In our darkest times, we often yearn for a clear voice from God, a crystal-clear direction that will dispel our doubts and fears. However, God's communication may not come in the form we expect. It may be a quiet affirmation, an inexplicable shift in our hopes, or a redirection of our trust to Him alone.Point Three - Embracing God's Presence: In the midst of uncertainties, it's crucial to embrace God's presence and guidance over the details of our circumstances. Even when the path ahead is unclear, His presence is constant, and His guidance is unwavering.Closing Conclusion: As we traverse through life's valleys, we must hold onto the certainty that God is with us. Though the circumstances might seem bleak and the promises unfulfilled, God's whisper in our hearts brings comfort, guidance, and ultimately, the peace we seek.Call to Action: In the coming days, I invite you to meditate on the moments in your life when you felt overwhelmed or let down. Reflect on how God's presence guided you through these times and helped reshape your trust and hope in Him.Closing Prayer: Heavenly Father, in the midst of our confusion and despair, we lean on Your promise to be with us. We may not understand Your ways or hear clear directions, but we trust in Your presence and guidance. Lord, walk with us through our valleys, and help us tune into Your gentle whisper amidst the noise of our struggles. Amen. The Power Of God's Whisper is a reader-supported publication. His goal was to please God and give him the glory and he knew in order to live out the dream that God put in his heart, he would need to enlist the help of others. Do you want your dream to come true? Learn how Nehemiah did it and how you can too. Nehemiah 2:7 I also said to him, “If it pleases the king, may I have letters to the governors of Trans-Euphrates, so that they will provide me safe-conduct until I arrive in Judah? 1. The book and story of Nehemiah is rich with so many lessons and symbolism of our ultimate Savior, but in this episode, we zero in on the way that Nehemiah prayed. He was a mighty man of prayer who went to God as a first response instead of a last resort. Take a listen as we look at 4 things Nehemiah did in his prayer that we can model after him in our prayers. I hope you are encouraged to seek God in everything and choose to go at His pace. I would love to hear from you! You can always find me in my DM's on Instagram @laurendelyn. Tell Me More is back for 2022!  We are kicking off by talking in greater depth about the prayer of Nehemiah and the ways he models a transformational prayer life that actually grounds and reveals who we are, who God is and transitions us into God's second act for our life. So much discipleship in following Jesus happens along the way. It's often not any particular sermon, event, conference or study that transforms us, but is the conversations we have surrounding those things along the way.  Discipleship happens on the journey, not at any particular destination. This podcast is a place where we can have deeper conversations about scripture, theology, philosophy and be formed along the way. Join us as we dive deeper into the scriptures and topics our church is studying by interviewing teachers, preachers, experts and companions on the journey. Often, our prayers are cries for help in desperate times.  Maybe a car swerves into your lane, or a child is feverish in the middle of the night.  God responds and meets us in our time of need.  Other times, prayer is a Journey.  We begin with a desire or a need that God places in our heart.  We make the request known to God in prayer and continue in prayer and fasting for days, weeks, and sometimes months and years.  In today's message, we see that as soon as Nehemiah becomes aware of the destroyed walls of Jerusalem, he immediately begins to weep and mourn.  He fasts and prays, and continues to do so for four months.  One day, while in the presence of the king, the king notices his sadness.  He tells the king what is troubling him, and before he knows it, God answers his prayer.  The king tasks him with rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem.  Like Nehemiah, we too should make our requests know to God, and continue to pray until God gives us peace in our heart or He graciously bring us to the answer of our prayer.

In this episode, Drew discusses the example of Nehemiah. He is famously known for the one who led the "rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem," but perhaps he is not remembered for his valiant and faithful fight against the opposition in the process. We all face opposition, the question is, how do we approach it? Hopefully, this episode will help you to "weather the storm."
