Gone are the days when it was discouraged to talk about our personal lives, feelings, and overall well-being in the workplace and although it has been difficult to reverse some of our toxic habits, we at least understand there is a correlation between mental health and productivity. This week's episode 84 of Female Founders Breaking Boundaries is about banishing toxic workplace culture!  Have you ever felt like you were WAY too busy, stressed out, burnt out, and overwhelmed, so you were advised to delegate some tasks to take things off your plate and free up some time? Except, maybe it didn't work. If getting out of the day-to-day in your business was as simple as hiring more people, then why are you still feeling overwhelmed and burned out? You are not alone! Sometimes, simply delegating tasks doesn't work and instead shifts your workload from “doing” to “managing.”I invite you to use the exercise that our own C-Suite clients use to take the first step in turning your team into a well-oiled, self-managed machine- and get you out of the delegation catch-22. Download the exercise here to get started! In this episode of Female Founders Breaking Boundaries, my guest Lindsay Recknell shares the importance of implementing proactive, not reactive benefits plans so that we can disrupt the negative thread of toxicity in the workplace through mental health and self-awareness. Some of the things Lindsay and I cover in this episode are:What is emotional intelligence, how it shows up in the workplace, and how you can use it to become a better leader. The impact that self-awareness has on us as leaders. Flexible and creative ways you can implement mental health support in the workplace. Being a conscious leader by creating a culture that values boundaries and reverses the generational leadership habits that are keeping us stuck. I think we can all agree that prioritizing mental health and practicing self-awareness and emotional intelligence is the key to a more productive workforce that translates to business growth and increased profits. If you enjoyed this episode, take a screenshot of the episode to share and tag me!  And don't forget to follow, rate, and review the podcast and tell me your key takeaways!Learn more about Female Founders Breaking Boundaries and Casey at https://c-suiteboutique.com/podcast/ CONNECT WITH LINDSAY RECKNELL:Paradigm Corporate WellnessMental Health for Leaders PodcastMental Health Skills Training CONNECT WITH CASEY GROMER:LinkedInCompany PersonaWork with Casey Gromer! Book an Advisory Call LINKS MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE:Mental Health for Leaders: Eliminating Toxic Leadership with Dr. Kevin Sansberry IIMental Health for Leaders: Empathy in the Workplace with Karla McLarenFFBB: Creating a Results-Oriented Company Culture

How are you feeling about this new upcoming school year? Would you say you feel hopeful about it? Now it is really important to feel hopeful about the upcoming school year, but it isn't enough to just hope that your child or client will have a better school year. We know that there are many pieces to the puzzle of having a great school year, but hope does matter. And today our guest talks about the science of hope and what that means for heading back to school.  Lindsay Recknell is an expert in hope and in this episode, she explains what this intangible concept feels like within our brains. When you dig deep into it, it seems complicated with the Hope Theory, the Hope Circuit, the Hope Scale. But really, this concept is simple to grasp and even better, it can be taught. Hope is contagious and can absolutely change your mental health and wellbeing. In this episode, Lindsay also walks us through an incredibly useful exercise that you can do independently or even with your family as we cultivate hope for a new school year.   Show Notes: [2:31] - This time of year is a time of new beginnings. [3:58] - When we think about the word hope, it feels intangible. [5:39] - Lindsay explains Positive Psychology.  [6:40] - Hope Theory is when the action of hope comes into play. Lindsay also explains the Hope Circuit. [7:47] - This concept is simple to grasp. Hope can be taught. [8:38] - We all have hope, even if it is deep down. There is a scientifically validated test called The Hope Scale. [9:24] - Lindsay believes that hope is contagious. [10:16] - You can also increase your hope independently. [11:31] - The Hope Circuit connects to our intrinsic thoughts on hope. [12:40] - Lindsay explains the Hope Circuit and what happens in your brain. [14:13] - Do this activity with Lindsay. Pause and write these things down. [16:24] - As you think about the vision you've created, you will feel something. That's your brain on hope. [17:05] - If you can do this exercise over and over with your family when you need a hope booster, it is so powerful. [18:38] - Hopefulness is not all about feeling happy. Hope and optimism are related but are independent from each other. [19:42] - Lindsay's definition of hope is that the future will be better than today by taking action over the things we can control. [21:04] - What are some of the things we can do to help build hope? [23:01] - You don't have to start with something huge. [24:20] - The process of reaching the goal is more important than the goal itself in a lot of ways. [25:40] - We know that life is hard sometimes, but we have tools to help us leverage hope.   About Our Guest: As an expert in hope and a Certified Psychological Health & Safety Advisor, Lindsay Recknell works with individuals and organizations to increase their levels of psychological health & safety in the workplace using Positive Psychology and the Science of Hope. How hopeful do you feel about the future? Does it show in your interactions with youth? I think we can all use a healthy dose of hope these days, but we're not talking about it enough. We look at the events of the world today and we stay quiet, feeling like we need to grin and bear it. That's not true. If you're struggling, others are struggling. Celebrating our small wins! I even need to remind myself to pause and celebrate the wins along the way! This is why I intentionally took the month of June to pause and really celebrate the one-year anniversary of High Voltage Leadership! Reinvention. We can pivot and reinvent ourselves and our business at any point. It is NEVER too late! Denise Summers is a perfect example! She quit her corporate job and went back to school, in a class where everyone else was the same age as her kids! How inspiring! Self-Discovery. Truly embracing what makes us unique! Tracy Guillet is a self-proclaimed introvert and shared with us how she really struggled with embracing her introversion. Now she helps others embrace their introversion to see that's what makes them special! The willingness to fail. Kelly Sinclair explains that when she started, things did not go the way she had hoped. She capitalized on this by learning and proves to us all that there are always lessons to learn. Be bold, be brave, and take risks! Bet on yourself! Robin Devine shared how important it is to bet on yourself. Dig in deep and go big. She admittedly overbuilt her practice, even when everyone told her she shouldn't. But if you build it, they will come!! Work/Life blend. Susan Kandalaft is a woman who has incredible hustle and heart but the blending of work and life has proven to be challenging and I think we can all relate! The way she unpacks this is in her episode is truly incredible. Hope. Nobody embodies hope like Lindsay Recknell. She is an expert in hope and says it is really all about having a mindset of invitation. That is also what Pauline Greenidge shared, and she emphasized just really having the confidence and knowing you can get through anything. Things will sometimes get messy, chaotic – but there is magic in some of that messiness! Resilience. Every single one of the 18 women I spoke to this season is incredibly resilient! Kim Hayden shared how she created an entire resilience series where she gets to help entrepreneurs find their resilience and build resilient businesses. She really is the definition of resilient and shares how you can weather any storm! Relationships. All 18 of these incredible female founders have created and maintained remarkable relationships. Saawan and Linda of North Water are great examples! They are business partners who have an incredible relationship built on trust, connection, honesty, and hard work. They share how this affects the culture of North Water and what makes it unique and special, and how trusting your partner and your team is so important! I have had so much fun this season, talking to these amazing female founders, and would love to hear from you! What other themes did you pick up on? What discussions would you like to have in Season 2? I also wanted to take the opportunity to say that I am launching a new coaching program called the “CEO Inner Circle” for women who are looking to level up in their leadership and build an inspiring work culture. If you want to grow and scale your business while having a culture that is authentic and true to you, I promise you will NOT want to miss this! Check out the details here! Thank you for a phenomenal season and for being a part of the Female Founder Friday Podcast! It has been so inspiring to connect with all our guests – and all of you! I can't wait to be back in the Fall and bring you another incredible season! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/femalefounderfridays/message

Today's Podcast guest, Lindsay Recknell, is a speaker, facilitator and mental health advocate who has experienced the power of hope firsthand and used it to create positive change in her life. Lindsay's work is all about helping others rediscover hope amid challenge – and teaching us how to use it to create radical positive change in our lives. As an expert in hope and a Certified Psychological Health & Safety Advisor, Lindsay works with organizations to increase their levels of psychological health & safety in the workplace using the Science of Hope – evidence-based, practical tips and techniques to increase levels of hope within organizations by increasing hope levels in individuals. She empowers individuals, strengthens teams and transforms organizations through her Hope Motivates Action, Mental Health in Minutes and Burnout & Boundaries programs. Lindsay lives in Calgary with her husband and their two Golden Retrievers. In today's episode, Lindsay shares her journey as a ‘serial entrepreneur' – from consulting, to partnering for Actionable Books, jumping into the wedding industry, and now owning her two businesses on the science of hope, and mental health for teams. In 2018, Lindsay experienced a cycle of burnout that caused her to crash and burn, in both her personal life and in her business in the wedding industry, because she was taking on too much at once. There was a moment where Lindsay recognized she was trying to play the hero and do everything for everyone – just like so many Female Founders – and it was time to take her cape off. Lindsay turned to learning something new in order to recover from the burnout: Positive Psychology and the Science of Hope – the realization that hope is not a made up ‘woo woo' thing within us, but is actually scientifically a part of our brain that pushes us forward toward towards amazing things. Lindsay's practical advice to other Female Founders is: don't cheap out on web design and development – just because you believe you can do all the things as an entrepreneur, does not mean you should! And her mindset advice is to have self-awareness. For Lindsay, it's important to be aware of her ‘shiny squirrel syndrome,' when she has so many ideas and wants to do all the things. Being aware of this allows Lindsay to stop and check-in, ask herself if she really needs to make a change, and gives her an opportunity to find new things within her business rather than creating a whole new business. You can find Lindsay on her website, Instagram, Facebook, or on LinkedIn. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/femalefounderfridays/message
