Send us Fan MailLife has a way of getting lifely — and this episode was born right in the middle of mine. In Episode 208, I get personal about a season that brought me to stillness, to my car, to my breath — and ultimately, to a word that changed everything for me this year. If you have ever found yourself waiting for the perfect moment to start again, or wondering if the hard thing you are going through has any light in it at all, this episode is for you. Come as you are. Start where you are. That is always enough. From a beloved novel to a spontaneous act of love from my son, from peer-reviewed science to a 14th century poet — I weave together the stories, the research, and the reminders that the light within you has never gone out. It may be quiet. It may be flickering. But it is there, and it has been there your whole life. I hope this episode helps you see it.Quote of the week: "I wish I could show you, when you are lonely or in darkness, the astonishing light of your own being." — Hafiz of ShirazFina's 2025 Reading ListThe 48 Laws of Power — Robert GreeneThe Prince — Niccolò MachiavelliThe Art of War — Sun TzuQuotations from the Works of Mao Tse-Tung — Mao ZedongRight Thing Right Now — Ryan HolidayAwaken the Giant Within — Tony RobbinsThe Big Leap — Gay HendricksEmotional Intelligence — Bradberry & GreavesA Return to Love — Marianne WilliamsonNo Mud No Lotus — Thich Nhat HanhTao Te Ching — Translated by Stephen MitchellMindful Investor — Maria GonzalezEducated — Tara WestoverSlaughterhouse-Five — Kurt Vonnegut1929 — Andrew Ross SorkinBooks ReferencedDoerr, Anthony. Meet Dr. Stewart Desson, CEO of Lumina Learning, a leader who sees leadership in layers: strategy and vision plus the ability to inspire purpose and meaning. Dr. Desson believes leaders must celebrate humanity so people can connect to a cause and give unrestricted energy to make an impact. His leadership approach blends self-awareness with purpose and authenticity — claiming who you are so others feel invited to do the same. Grounded in science and curiosity, he dispels myths, welcomes challenge, and changes beliefs when evidence demands it. Dr. Desson uses coaching, retreats, and collaborative research to foster self-development and growth. His favorite guiding principle: “Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” — Viktor E. Frankl

Podcast Jurnal Lembu

Pukul 05 Pagi. Ia bukan sekadar keinginan. Keinginan bisa berubah, tetapi tekad membuat kita bertahan. Seperti yang ditulis Napoleon Hill dalam Think and Grow Rich:“Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle.”Tekad yang sama juga hadir saat kita mengambil keputusan besar bernama resign. Seperti yang dikatakan Stephen R. Covey dalam The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People:“Values are like fingerprints. Nobody's are the same, but you leave them all over everything you do.”Yang terpenting, saat kita memutuskan untuk melangkah pergi, pastikan kita membawa value yang positif—untuk diri kita, untuk portofolio kehidupan kita, dan untuk masa depan yang lebih baik.Aku percaya, value membentuk identitas. Mengapa Children of Heaven begitu menyentuh? Seperti yang dikatakan Viktor E. Frankl:“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.”Salam cintaku seluas angkasa,Segelas kopi dari Labuan Bajo.

Story is our brain's first language. And our minds fill in a story's blanks long before the facts catch up.Before we consciously interpret an event, our nervous system has already scanned for threat and sent that information to our brains, which in turn builds a narrative about what it means. We're constantly interpreting events, and not always accurately. Research has shown that negative information carries more psychological weight than positive information. That bias isn't a flaw–it's survival wiring. But what protects us biologically can distort us relationally.Unexamined stories shape our leadership. They shape how we interpret feedback. They shape how we respond to conflict. They shape culture. They shape trust.Which is why reclaiming “storyteller” as a skill set matters.Good storytelling connects to our capacity for joy, along with our ability to connect to what is truly authentic for us, which plays a role in the stories we tell ourselves and others. Today's guest digs into how to become a better storyteller—with yourself and with others—why joy is a skill that helps regulate our state and expand capacity, and how connecting to our authenticity is essential to telling good stories. Shabnam Mogharabi is an entertainment executive, producer, and New York Times bestselling author with 20 years of experience in mission-driven media. She is currently the founder of The Joy Brigade, a boutique production company, and also serves as Executive Director at Soul Boom, which creates media to ignite a spiritual revolution. Our personal and collective lives are interweaving at an accelerated rate as the cosmos energies propel into new territory:Jan 6: The Capricorn Venus Star Point brought a mature, grounded Venus into focus.Feb 17: The upcoming Eclipse season ignites the Lunar New Year Fire Horse. The Zero Point: A riveting Saturn-Neptune conjunction looms at 0° Aries—the start of the Zodiac. As the "kettle" of shared ideas merges, it is time to anchor ourselves in inner meaning, even as our external attachments evolve. Viktor Frankl's work is particularly resonant for the "Fire Horse" year; both require a great deal of internal strength and a "will to meaning."The Frankl Message: The Last Human Freedom: Psychologist and WWII Holocaust survivor Viktor Frankl emerged from concentration camps with an imperative message: Our ultimate freedom is the ability to choose our own attitude. Have you had one of those consults in which you're thinking, huh, sounds like the patient's goals are clear, it's really that the clinician consulting us disagrees with those goals?  To what extent is it our job as consultants to navigate, manage, or attend to clinician distress?  What happens when that clinician distress leads eventually to conflict between the consulting clinician and the palliative care team? Today our guests Sara Johnson, Yael Schenker, & Anne Kelly discuss these issues, including: A recent paper first authored by Yael asking if attending to clinician distress is our job, published in JPSM. See also the wonderful conversation in the response letters from multidisciplinary providers (e.g. of course  that's our job! And physicians may not be trained in therapy, but many social workers and chaplains are, and certainly psychologists). Dr. T and Truth Fairy are reunited for this episode and introduce a new episode structure to listeners. Each episode will examine, in three parts, the research and clinical research angle of a topic, then practical clinical perspectives, and, finally, a potential guest to weigh in on the topic. In this, part one, Dr. T and Truth explore the relationships between trauma, dissociation, and psychedelic therapy. They dig into how dissociation shows up on a spectrum - from everyday experiences like daydreaming to severe structural dissociation rooted in early trauma and survival responses.  In the trauma model of dissociation, Dr. T and Truth Fairy discuss how the mind and body protect us each against overwhelming pain by sequestering traumatic memories. Truth names several books by people who have survived extremely traumatic situations to illustrate this. They also explore the role of the dorsal vagal complex in shutdown and numbing states, and how attachment wounds contribute to dissociation. Understanding these is key to safe and effective psychedelic therapy. Together, drawing on clinical research and personal insight, they highlight the protective and harmful aspects of dissociation, how it overlaps with conditions like PTSD, DID, and depression, and they examine how trauma can be carried in the mind and body. Part of their discussion involves how psychedelic medicines can offer healing by bringing suppressed experiences to the surface, alongside care and trauma-informed awareness and guidance. “And so, yeah, the idea is that in the process of dissociation as a response to trauma, it's protecting in the moment. But those memories and those experiences are still - if dissociation is happening in the moment of a traumatic experience, it might be protective - but then it might be sequestering and pushing some material into a different place within the psyche. And if that remains unresolved, you know, then it can wreak havoc and produce a lot of follow-on distress.” - Dr. T__Resources discussed in this episode:“Psychedelic iatrogenic structural dissociation: an exploratory hypothesis on dissociative risks in psychedelic use” by Steven Elfrink and Leigh Bergin, ‘Frontiers in Psychology', 3 March 2025“The Last Girl: My Story of Captivity, and My Fight Against the Islamic State” by Nadia Murad“Man's Search for Meaning” by Viktor E. De toute l'ère humaine, nous n'avons jamais été aussi connectés — et en même temps jamais été aussi seuls. There are a lot of unspoken challenges and hidden battles that men face in modern society. They often manifest themselves in a uniquely male malaise where a man feels apathetic, frustrated, cynical, and lost.Jon Tyson has thought a lot about the problems men face and has been on the ground trying to help them as a pastor in New York City. In today's episode, I talk to Jon about the sources of this male angst that he explores as the co-author of a new book, Fighting Shadows: Overcoming 7 Lies That Keep Men From Becoming Fully Alive.Jon and I discuss how men often try to solve their malaise and why those approaches don't work. We then explore some of the shadows men fight in their lives, including the shadows of despair, loneliness, unhealthy ambition, futility, and lust. Jon offers some advice to overcome these shadows, including sitting around a fire pit with your bros, taking time to develop your telos or aim as a man, and injecting a bit more playfulness in your life to counteract grumpy dad syndrome.Resources Related to the PodcastJon's previous appearances on the AoM podcast:#810: How to Turn a Boy Into a Man#926: The 5 Shifts of ManhoodAoM longform article/short "ebook": A Roadmap to Manhood in the 21st CenturyAoM Article: Create a Blueprint for Your FutureMan's Search for Meaning by Viktor E.
