Dr. Rishidian pulls back the curtain and establishes that chiropractic science is more than back and spinal alignment. Chiropractic adjustments have been shown to positively affect mental health by reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. By correcting misalignments in the spine, chiropractic care can improve nerve function, promoting better mental and emotional well-being. When the spine is aligned correctly, nerve signals can flow more freely, allowing the body to function optimally. Studies have shown that chiropractic adjustments can help regulate the release of stress hormones, such as cortisol, and increase the production of endorphins, which are natural mood enhancers. Additionally, chiropractic care has been found to improve sleep quality, which is crucial for maintaining good mental health.

Cindy Esliger examines the trifecta of our work, our identity, and our self-awareness, breaking down where they complement each other and where we should define boundaries. Self-awareness allows us to distinguish between who we are and what we do. The value of our work is different from our worth as a human being. The distinctions between our professional and personal identity require a deep dive into self-awareness, a journey Cindy is here to guide us through. Part of self-awareness is understanding ourselves on a deeper level, and one of the great influences on our journey is how we respond to stress. Cindy asks four questions to help us gauge our stress response: 1. When things get tough, do we step up or step back, 2. How do we handle criticism, 3. Do we reach out or shut down when the going gets tough, 4. What's our conflict style? She then offers four strategies to help us manage those knee-jerk stress reactions. With introspection of this type, we raise our self-awareness. That, in turn, allows us to define exactly who we are. It shapes our knowledge of our personal identity. Understanding who we are can then reflect positively on our professional identities, creating more opportunities for challenge and growth. Cindy highlights that our developed personal identity prevents us from over-identifying with our work. If we allow work to define who we are, we put our self-worth in the hands of a business decision or a boss. Cindy guides us through the perils of allowing work to become our identity and offers keen insight to aid us in self-awareness in this episode.Resources discussed in this episode:Guide to Your Work and Your IdentityAstronomic AudioConfidence Collective—Contact Cindy Esliger Career Confidence Coaching: website | instagram | facebook | linkedin | email

Episode NotesHave you ever wondered any of these: What the science is behind creativity? What causes creativity in the brain? What part of the brain is used in creativity? Or maybe even how to activate creativity in the brain? In this episode Kate speaks with Dr. Cheryl Arutt a clinical and forensic psychologist based in Los Angeles, California working with actors, writers, directors and showrunners supporting their psychological well-being. A specialist in trauma recovery, creativity and post-traumatic growth, Dr. Cheryl is currently Access Hollywood's go-to psychologist for trauma issues, a frequent psychological expert on many networks including CNN, HLN and DiscoveryID, and has been interviewed by the BBC and 20/20 Australia.  For more information about Dr. Cheryl please visit askdrcheryl.com, and for info about her online courses for creative artists please visit www.thecreativeresilience.comDr. Cheryl explains how creativity works and what it even is from a Brain Science Perspective. We talk about the link between education and creativity. I ask her if we are doing enough to foster creativity & creating thinking in the school system? And she gives us some actionable things we can do at home for ourselves and our children to rev our own creative engines. One of my favourite moments though, comes towards the end  when I ask her about the possibility of the opposite of inheriting generational trauma existing. We know we can inherit trauma but can we inherit magical wonderful things too? We shared a really tender moment - one where I felt like she was talking to ALL of us. It's beautiful, uplifting and inspiring.  I think you'll be really moved by it. What Dr. Cheryl Arutt & I talk about-What creativity IS from a brain science perspective. -What is really going on inside our psychology when people say “I'm not creative”-Why processing trauma including intergenerational trauma, and converting it to post traumatic growth is so important (and is absolutely possible)-The link between education and creativity. Are we fostering creativity and creating thinking enough in the school system? And if we are seeing that our children are not getting as much focus on creativity in school what can we do at home? -What is the one question you can ask yourself (or your kids) to kick start your creativity (what is another way to do that/look at that/solve that)-How the “we only use 10% of our brains” thing is a myth-How to use creativity to safely access our traumas -What is EMDR (eye movement and desensitization and reprocessing therapy how it was discovered and how creative people can use it to heal trauma and access even more of their innate creativity-Post traumatic growth - learning to integrate and recognize all the ways you grew as a person as a result of living through your trauma-What she thinks creativity is trying to do - from a brain science perspectiveAbout Dr. Cheryl AruttDr. Cheryl Arutt is an accomplished clinical and forensic psychologist based in Beverly Hills, CA whose amalgamation of rigorous training and experience allows her to engage with people from a place of deep insight and empathy. David Daniels will speak with Joseph Blackman, founder of Vitendo Training Solutions and host of the Public Works Podcast, about psychological health and safety in public works. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, also known as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), is the largest long-term investment in the US economy and infrastructure in history. From 2022 to 2026, the law provides $550 billion in federal investment in roads, bridges, mass transit, water infrastructure, resilience, and broadband. Though many of these projects will be managed by private-sector construction companies, others will be managed by public-sector public works departments. Depending on the jurisdiction, the attention to and expertise in safety varies. Increased investment in public infrastructure will also increase the potential for exposure of workers to both physical and psychological hazards. One of the important components to reducing the stress associated with this work could be addressed by more effective training. This episode is a continuing conversation from an episode of the Public Works Podcast.

As we approach the 2nd anniversary of the repeal of Roe v. Wade, the debate about abortion continues to divide us. Have you noticed, maybe even in your own conversations, that traditional pro-life messaging about the baby just isn't hitting home? What if I told you that by understanding the deep emotional and psychological needs of women considering abortion, we could revolutionize our approach and truly help women make life-affirming choices? Today, I chat with Megan Drapa, a researcher and education specialist for the Vitae Foundation, about what really influences women contemplating abortion. Megan shares that their research dives into the deep emotional drives behind these decisions, challenging what many of us think. She highlights that many women already see abortion as morally significant but feel driven by fear and a need to protect their identity. Our conversation sheds light on why we need more nuanced, compassionate communication to better support women facing unplanned pregnancies. Tune in to hear about: Emotional and Identity Factors: The decision-making process around abortion is deeply influenced by women's emotions and sense of identity. Many see carrying to term as a huge personal sacrifice or "death to self," and consider abortion the least harmful option despite knowing its moral implications. Effective Messaging: How we frame abortion-related messages greatly affects how they're received. For instance, presenting a 15-week ban as a way to give women enough time and information to make an informed choice can gain more support than strictly labeling it as a pro-life measure. Trust and Support: Building trust and offering support early in women's reproductive lives, before they face an unplanned pregnancy, is essential. Pregnancy centers and healthcare providers need to be seen as trusted resources for women's health and reproductive needs, avoiding judgmental approaches that can push women away when they most need support. To see the research, check out the Vitae Research Institute (https://vitaeresearchinstitute.org/) or email Megan Drapa (mailto:megan.drapa@vitaefoundation.org). This week, host Dr. I. David Daniels will speak to Torin Monet, a management consultant who has studied the data associated with psychologically unhealthy workplaces and made a profound business case for psychological health and safety. There is a significant amount of data to suggest the United States is destroying innovation, productivity, and productivity through emotional and psychological abuse in the workplace. - The US is #1 among developed nations for workplace stress, anxiety disorders, psychopathy, antisocial personality disorder, homicide, and suicide - 70% of US adults, approximately 223.5 million people, have experienced psychological trauma, increasing their sensitivity to workplace abuse and subsequent mental health disorders - 30% of American workers (46.8 million people) are victims of psychological abuse, leading to anxiety, depression, PTSD, and the spread of sociopathy - Year-on-year increase in workplace toxicity and harassment is evident, with 22% of workers saying they were subject to workplace psychological abuse in the last 12 months compared to 14% in 2022 Torin argues that a clear set of business data points supports the value of a psychologically safe and healthy workplace as a business imperative.

As families in the U. S. gather for food and drink over the holiday season, they bring their mental and emotional health with them, which manifests in their conversations and actions. While the meal is being prepared, during the football game or shopping trip for the holiday sale, conversation about work often creeps into the discussions. The conversation will be familiar to families in every community. Family members are often the first people in a worker's life to share their psychosocial hazard exposure experience. It is also where they seek and give advice about what to do. This candid, wide-ranging conversation will touch on the family's view of work, some of the challenges, and the view of what a great work environment should look and feel like.

Everyone has fears – but what makes a fear become a phobia? Why are some people scared of spiders (arachnophobia), buttons (koumpounophobia), or the colour yellow (xanthophobia)? Or why are others are scared of situations, like small spaces (claustrophobia), empty rooms (kenophobia) or heights (acrophobia)? This is a question which has been bothering Crowdscience listener Scott, who has a phobia of bridges. He gets anxious and panicky when driving over bridges and is scared he'll lose control of the car. It's also a question that struck a chord with presenter Caroline Steel. She is claustrophobic, particularly in lifts, steering clear of them at all costs and even once climbing nine flights of stairs in crutches to avoid using the lift. But where do these phobias come from and why do some people have them and not others? To investigate, Caroline speaks to experts to discover where phobias come from, why we have them and how they develop. And she visits a psychologist to learn about different types of treatment for phobias, and to receive treatment herself in the hope that one day, maybe she'll be able to take the lift instead of the stairs. In this second episode of this mini-series,  Valerie responds to a variety of personal questions including (but not limited to):   How the podcast and accompanying work has impacted Val's and Nathan's parenting and family life. Val's and Nathan's asymmetrical developmental time line that prepared them for this collaboration.   Their current relationship with local ecclesiastical leaders. Her current reasons for continuing to attend her own LDS church congregation. Her feelings about those who choose to distance themselves from the church (temporarily or permanently) due her influence and her sincere encouragement for people to forge their own paths.   The most impactful books Val has read that evoked her own “faith crisis”, but which also led to her decision to create a platform to address these topics in a healthy, more open way Thoughts and feelings about the potential of church discipline, personal surrender, belonging to ones' self, and growing feelings of peace due to owning her journey and living in her integrity Books mentioned in this episode as most impactful for Valerie:   Origins of Power and Extensions of Power written by D. Michael Quinn  Stretching the Heavens: The Life of Eugene England and the Crisis of Modern Mormonism ___________________________________________________________________________  To financially support Valerie's ongoing ability to provide this content to you and others, become a patron of Latter Day Struggles here:https://www.patreon.com/LatterDayStruggles ____________________________________________________________________________ LIVE:  COURSES I and II of “A Couple's Guide to Faith Crisis and Expansion”. Join Val and fellow therapist Brannon Patrick this week as Brannon interviews Valerie about her first year accidentally diving into the deep end as a professional voice speaking respectfully but directly on behalf of thousands of individuals in the LDS faith and trust crisis and expansion space.   In those two episodes Valerie responds to a variety of personal questions including (but not limited to):   Her own experiences finding herself a in a role speaking at the intersection of good psychology, a call for healthy theology, with a keen understanding of the dynamics of healthy and unhealthy organizations.   How she has navigated activity in the church. Her and Brannon's experience first deciding to work together and then his deciding to no longer work with her and their touching conclusions about this tough relational period.   Her experience with the very real possibility of burnout in this highly emotional work. Her reasons for committing so much time and nurture to the support and processing group process and the unintended benefits of this experience for her as a facilitator. Her and Nathan's journey as a couple, evolving parents, and working together on the podcast. Val's thoughts on the possibility of church discipline due to her ministry.  And much more!   Latter Day Struggles Podcast Episodes mentioned in this episode as most impactful for Valerie:  https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/episode-118-stumbling-blocks-and-the-book-of/id1612326898?i=1000611873921, https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/episode-126-a-glimpse-into-the-spiritual-journey/id1612326898?i=1000615415109 ___________________________________________________________________________  To financially support Valerie's ongoing ability to provide this content to you and others, become a patron of Latter Day Struggles here:https://www.patreon.com/LatterDayStruggles ____________________________________________________________________________ LIVE:  COURSES I and II of “A Couple's Guide to Faith Crisis and Expansion”.
