The boys review a spicy midweek round of European football, as Real Madrid complete (their latest) historic comeback to send Liverpool to their worst ever home European defeat (33:26). Also - Barcelona continue their own streak of sorts in Europe as they fail yet again to beat a halfway decent side in a knockout competition (4:08). Plus, Mark looks ahead to Real's Madrid derby (1:10:29), and Payton see if Barcelona can put their European blues in the rearview against Almeria (1:04:19). Editor's note: Mark meant to say that Real Madrid beat Manchester City last year, not Manchester United.
On this episode of Double J, the fellas are travelling across the Atlantic to help Gareth Southgate with the English national team. Liverpool snatch Darwin Nunez out of the grasps of United: is this a good move for Liverpool? Barcelona want Bernardo Silva, but they can't even afford Angel Di Maria? The Premier League Team of the Year was announced, and it was BAD: we discuss what we would change. New Segment! Things you love to see, things you hate to see. Subscribe!

The EFL, after requests from several different clubs, have opted not to investigate the circumstances of Liverpool's recent outbreak. An outbreak that caused a postponement of their Carabao Cup semi-final against Arsenal. Turns out that many of the results were false positives with only Trent Alexander-Arnold having a true positive result. So now with the postponement of that matchup, the winner of the Tottenham vs Chelsea will advance to the finals before Liverpool and Arsenal even play their first match up. The Spanish Supercopa Semi-Finals begin today with Barcelona hosting Real Madrid in a game that should reach a conclusion right before we go live. This is a single Leg competition with Atletico Madrid taking on Athletic Bilbao tomorrow. The final matchup will be played on January 16th at King Fahd Stadium in Saudi Arabia. Also on tap for today's episode is all the recent transfer news from the world of Soccer. Kieran Trippier returns to England from Atletico Madrid to New Castle United. Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona to Aston Villa. We will also bring you all the major Premier League news and updates. Finally, we end with our Yellow Card/Red Card's where we put players, teams, and/or executives on notice.
In today's episode, Rick is by himself as the other member's of The Maine Stand could not make this week's episode. Not to worry, Rick covers all of the big storylines from European soccer this week in a shortened episode! First, we talk about the Champions League Group Stage as that wrapped up this past week. Barcelona fell down to the Europa League along with some other big names! Liverpool, of course, won their group easily, finishing on 18 points as Atletico grabbed the second spot in Group B. Finally, Rick gives his five best bets of the weekend featuring: Man City vs Wolves, Liverpool vs Aston Villa, Arsenal vs Southampton, Freiburg vs Hoffenheim & Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid. Other big talking points are Mo Salah being better than Bernardo Silva, Stevie G's return to Anfield, and the recent performance of Rayan Aït-Nouri against Liverpool. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

It's an emergency episode of crisis-kick as Nick & Caleb commiserate over Liverpool & FC Barcelona's steadily collapsing seasons. First up, the lads address the worrying state of Liverpool following a historic defeat to Merseyside rivals Everton at Anfield. They dissect everything from the effects of a continuing unprecedented injury pileup, the impact of mental fatigue on superstar players, & what Klopp can change to get the Reds back in the hunt for top four. Finally, the duo react to another big match meltdown from FC Barcelona, this time a 4-1 home defeat to PSG. Caleb ponders more tactical missteps from Ronald Koeman & an aging squad, while Nick looks at the year-on-year mental scarring of Barça in defining moments over the past 3 seasons. Barcelona have placed most of their squad up for sale after their Champions League humiliation – including Luis Suarez and possibly another former Liverpool star, Philippe Coutinho, who of course stepped off the bench to score twice in Bayern Munich’s 8-2 drubbing of his parent club. So the latest Blood Red podcast decides to play a bit of fantasy football and ask which Barca player you bring to Anfield. But before then there’s the Champions League final, between Bayern and Paris Saint-Germain to preview, plus a look ahead to last season’s winners Liverpool’s opening pre-season friendly with Stuttgart. Enjoy all that and more with Sean Bradbury, Connor Dunn, Dan Kay and Caoimhe O’Neill. The Liverpool Echo sends a twice-daily Liverpool FC bulletin out via email with the all latest news, views and analysis from Anfield. Außer in Dortmund. Aber das ist wieder ein ganz anderes Thema. Viel Spaß. Partner in dieser Woche ist: Huawei https://consumer.huawei.com/de/phones/p30-pro/?utm_source=MML&utm_campaign=Folge2

Part 1 In a week in which Arsenal and Manchester United both went to France and played in staggeringly different 3-1's, the build-up for Sunday's match at the Emirates essentially wrote itself. Yet, football is a funny old game and it was the side who lost 3-1 that came out the victors yesterday… Part 2 The title race is as it was 7 days ago with both challengers winning comfortably enough, but the top 4 race took a wild swing in Arsenal's way last weekend. Tottenham keep losing, Chelsea drop more points and United finally lose under magic man Solskjaer. Was also announced this week that Chelsea's appeal to overturn/delay their 2 window transfer ban was denied. “Astonished” was the word Chelsea used. It was an incredible week for Champions League action. Not only did plucky underdogs Manchester United complete an unbelievable turnaround, but plucky underdogs Ajax also came back from 2-1 down at the Bernabeu. A performance to remember. The end of one era and potentially the start of something special… Part 3 “I think it's really a reason of pride when a club where you worked before wanting you back.” These were the words of Jose Mourinho just a few weeks ago as speculation mounted of his return to Real Madrid. So I'm sure he'll understand the pride that Zinedine Zidane must be feeling right now. We have no doubt that Mourinho wishes Zidane all the very best… Part 4 This week's Champions League is perhaps more in the balance than last week looked, but there's still plenty of chances for teams to turn around ties in dramatic fashion. Will any of these teams overturn first leg deficits, and who will find the fatal blow in these balanced ties? Juventus (0) vs. (2) Atletico Madrid Bayern Munich (0) vs. (0) Liverpool Barcelona (0) vs. (0) Lyon Manchester City (3) vs. (2) Schalke Closing Contact us: @thetfpod on Twitter and @totalfootballpod on Instagram or email us at theTFpod@gmail.com Remember to rate/review the show on your podcast provider of choice and do tell friends and family about the show.
