After a hard-fought victory against Newcastle, the top of the Premier League table is very interesting. David Mooney is joined by City fan Chris Higginbottom and former City goalkeeper Andie Worrall to discuss what happened in Saturday's 2-1 win and where it's left the title race after Arsenal also responded in the North London Derby. What about City's style change this season too? We hear from Pep Guardiola, Pep Lijnders and Bernardo Silva as we look at how City are coping with a more physical and more direct Premier League. What principles have changed to get to this current incarnation of City and what still remains from before? Calum Archibald, who contributes to The Square Ball, joins the show to speak about the mood at Leeds right now... and how their trip to the Etihad earlier in the season has changed their fortunes. Plus, we catch up with journalist and Forest fan Nick Miller to find out what on earth is going on at The City Ground, as yet another manager brings Forest to Eastlands in midweek. ========== To get more podcasts or to listen without the ads, join our Patreon. After a comprehensive 3-0 win over Liverpool, David Mooney is joined by Manchester City fans Richard Burns and KC to discuss the performance and the talking points from the game. A lot has been made of the disallowed goal, so they pick through the details of that, plus they look at excellent performances from Jeremy Doku, Bernardo Silva, and Nico Gonzalez (among others). Nico's goal might be considered the first City have scored in the Premier League this season from a set piece, but even if it is City's numbers from dead balls around the box are pretty poor. We try to work out why, with the help of journalists Sam Lee and Matt Hobbs, plus former City centre-back Nedum Onuoha. Sunday's game marked Pep Guardiola's 1000th as a manager, too. To celebrate that achievement, we're going back to the first ever time he was in the dugout as a head coach - with The Athletic's Pol Ballus giving us the details of his first match in charge of Barcelona B and discussing how that has shaped his career to this point. ========== To get more podcasts or to listen without the ads, join our Patreon. Welcome dear listener to the 22nd episode of the 7th season of First State Kopites. I'm Paul and today I am joined by Enrique and Daz. The Reds follow up their win over Real Madrid with a disappointing loss at the Etihad (which for once appeared to be lively)Part one - Always want to start with the comments we made at the start of the season - we should not be picking on any of these boys on the basis of what they went through this summerI've seen this defeat described as us being blown away, thrashed, dismantled - just a few of the over the top descriptions from our defeat to City where the xG was even without the fucking ridiculous penalty (0.72 to 0.61). Less than a year ago, City were defeated, overawed, consigned to defeat by the same outlets and the xG was 3.86 to 0.51 in our favor. Proof if proof was needed that overreactions around the Reds gets clicks - then there's our own mad fan base. The actual game - personally can't get past the officiating. And the easy dismissal of goal related events in such a low scoring game. The penalty and the mad 200x zooming in - cf. the non-penalty at Brentford. Or even the studs up challenge at Anfield in 2024. Grating to hear the Manc accent announcing the penalty., The offside….  Only the Reds get goals disallowed like this. How can the linesman call this? Can I mention Bernardo Silva and his foul countThe half baked offsides being flaggedThe inconsistencies - Wirtz can't expect fouls like that in the Premier LeaguePerformances - people too willing to bury everyone. Ibou does look a step off. Confidence, distraction? Isolated in the press.Doku - ‘all fart and no poo' - scores his first goal since January. Not sure what else Foden, Cherki and Haaland didReview has questions on the out of possession plan - are we on the same page?Being played like it's a cup final. Is Slot being too passive?Making it too easy? Lots of pressing but not coordinatedPart two - Mindset going forward:No one that we play till Arsenal has the exceptions of most of the teams we've played so far. Forest, West Ham, Sunderland, Leeds(?) and Brighton in the next 5. With PSV at home and Inter away.Points max - we could get 99! I think the no draws thing is interesting. Few teams have won the league with 5 losses. So, in summary, this loss carries the weight of the previous ones, but looking at the numbers, we don't believe Liverpool are that bad, and that there's plenty of cause for optimism going forward. We'll be back with a preview of Forest and PSV. Thanks to Daz and Enrique for joining me, Paul. And most of all, thank you dear listener for joining us.If you enjoyed the pod, please share it with a friend. Monaco and Nice are not the biggest clubs in the South of France — that's Marseille — but they maintain a testy feud that carries the cultural differences between the two towns. The Principality of Monaco is fiercely independent from France but plays in Ligue 1 alongside Nice, a gorgeous but (somewhat) less glitzy destination than the champagne-and-caviar precincts of the Monégasques.AS Monaco has a rich footballing tradition in recent decades, from the Arsène Wenger days (and those of Thierry Henry and George Weah) to more recent times, when the club has been a kind of finishing school for elite talent like Kylian Mbappé and Bernardo Silva. OGC Nice has not enjoyed the same success recently, and yet engenders fierce support rooted in deep tradition that Monaco can't always match: the Stade Louis II, where this weekend's match will be played, has inconsistent attendance in a town where football isn't always paramount.Meanwhile, both clubs are seeing varying levels of fan revolt over poor results and msigivings about how they're run — not least Nice, where fans are even more disenchanted with Sir Jim Ratcliffe than Manchester United supporters. That combined with a rebellion against French footballing authorities has spurred a boycott among Nice ultras, who will not be attending this match or enjoying their traditional mass scooter procession across the 20-or-so kilometers from Nice to Monaco.Joining us to break it all down is Jonathan Johnson, a Paris-based French football expert.if you like what you hear in this episode, leave us a rating and review! The new season is almost here, so it's time to get back to it with some brand new Blue Moon Podcast nonsense. David Mooney is joined by City fan Ciaran Murray and the Daily Mail's Jack Gaughan to review the Club World Cup campaign, discuss the transfer business so far, and preview the upcoming match with Wolves. Sam Rosbottom runs through the big stories that we've missed since we've not been on air, while we discuss the major talking points going into the new campaign... What will a Bernardo Silva-led dressing room look like? Which players will be on the coach to Molineux and what will it mean for those that aren't? What's going on with the goalkeepers? Dave Azzopardi from Talking Wolves is on the show to explain how their preparations have gone for the new season. Plus, because it's a bit of a busier summer than usual, we've got an early set of alternative highlights... That's before we get to the monstrosity that is the brand new 'rain' kit... ========== To get more podcasts or to listen without the ads, join our Patreon. After Manchester City's opening day win at Stamford Bridge, David Mooney is joined by Dan Burke from One Football and Dom Farrell from Sporting News to review the game. Who were the standout performers against Chelsea and how did City solve the no-Rodri problem so well? We take a look at Mateo Kovacic, Rico Lewis and Bernardo Silva in particular. It looks like Ilkay Gundogan could be returning, too, so we look at how his arrival could affect the options in the squad and the make-up of Pep Guardiola's team selections. It's Ipswich Town next - and the first meeting in the league between the teams since they relegated City from the Premier League in 2001. Mooney explains why, around that time, he utterly despised the club... and we discover if he's managed to let go of those old hang-ups with Rich from The Suffolk Crunch, who also tells us all about what to expect from Kieran McKenna's side on Saturday. ========== To get more podcasts or to listen without the ads, join our Patreon.
