It was at the point that Crystal Palace announced their line-up at Fulham that James knew his luck was in. With Daniel Munoz absent from The Eagles squad with a knee injury, James was able to bank Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's 16 points and laugh about some brilliant bench jam. And it was just as well because it was a painful week otherwise! Luck or skill? You need a bit of both in this game. Suj joins James for a review of all the weekend games as Aston Villa beat Arsenal late, it was a late win for Palace too at Fulham and West Ham also lost a late lead at Brighton. There was late carnage to at Elland Road as Liverpool blew a comfortable lead, but it was events after the game and Mo Salah's interview that may prove even more damaging for The Reds. FPL managers now have 5 free transfers at their disposal and both Suj and James have gone early with one move, but will the other moves be made or can transfers be banked? Most is seems, will be making aggressive moves. But are there even 3 good forwards in the game!? The road to 2026 is finally mapped out, and on today's Morning Espresso we break down what the World Cup draw really means for the USMNT, Mexico, and the heavyweights from South America — plus the schedule quirks, heat risks, and those new mandatory hydration breaks that will turn every match into four “quarters.”We'll dive into Mo Salah's explosive mixed-zone interview, what it says about his fractured relationship with Arne Slot and Liverpool, and how his future looks with AFCON, Saudi, and MLS interest hovering in the background. Then it's all eyes on Miami: Messi's masterclass in MLS Cup, how his new supporting cast flipped the script from last year, and what comes next as Busquets and Alba bow out, replacements line up, and sponsorship money across MLS keeps climbing. We'll wrap with a quick Refill of headlines from Liga MX, Brazil, Europe's title races, and the college game to get you ready for another massive week in the world's game.
Mo Salah dropped a bombshell on Saturday evening. After starting on the bench for the third game in a row he gave an incendiary interview after the match claiming to have been thrown under the bus, a scapegoat for recent poor form and said he had no relationship with coach Arne Slot. So, what happens next - will it be the end of Salah or Slot at Liverpool? Can any player be guaranteed a place in the team regardless of form as Salah seems to be suggesting? On the pitch Villa coach Unai Emery led his team to a win over Arsenal and third in the table - remarkable achievement after the start they had. Are there worrying signs for Arsenal, or were they just beaten by a better team on the day? After the break a valuable three points for Spurs and Thomas Frank, but an even more important performance; top quality at the Cottage and does Nuno like his players? Tom Allnutt, Gregor Robertson and Alyson Rudd join tom Clarke. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Salah Bombshell | Ashes Update | Villa stun Arsenal Dharmesh Sheth is joined by Jonathan Liew, Dan Kilpatrick and James Olley to reflect on the weekend's sporting action. We begin with Mo Salah's explosive interview, in which he hints at a breakdown in his relationship with Arne Slot and suggests he feels unwanted at the club after being benched again.Next, we turn to the Ashes, where England have finally shown some fight — but the question remains: why has it taken so long? Jonathan believes it's a huge missed opportunity and compares England's approach to “Ange-ball.”We then turn to the WSL, where we're joined by Megan Feringa to ask what's gone wrong for Arsenal's Champions League winners. Megan believes the presence of so many high-profile players has led to an overreliance on individual brilliance rather than unity and a cohesive style of play.Next, we move on to the World Cup draw. While James criticises the politicisation of the event — highlighted by Donald Trump receiving a peace prize — we focus on England's fixtures and travel itinerary. We then look at Arsenal's defeat at Villa Park. James highlights the state of the squad, noting they used a sixth different centre-back pairing at the end of a gruelling run of fixtures. Are they starting to look vulnerable? Finally, it's a tale of two Manchester sides. Manchester City's dominant win over Sunderland has cut the title race gap to just two points, with Pep's men looking like they still have gears to spare in the new year. Meanwhile, after Manchester United dropped another two points at home to West Ham in midweek, you have to ask: are the lower European spots the best Amorim's team can realistically hope for this season?Sunday Supplement is a Sky Sports podcast. Liverpool's miserable run continued with a 3-3 draw at Leeds on Saturday night. The Reds led 2-0 and 3-2 but, predictably, couldn't hold onto the chance to hop into the Champions League qualification spots. However, the bigger story came afterwards with Mo Salah's explosive and unprecedented post-match attack on the manager that throws his Anfield future into deep doubt. Dave Usher, Ian Brown and Chris Smith respond in real time as the news broke.

Suj and James discuss the games and fallout from a dramatic Gameweek 14 so far as Manchester City won 5-4 away, Villa (found improvement) to win 4-3 at Brighton, Arsenal won again but it was a bad night for Chelsea at Elland Road and Liverpool were again underwhelming as they drew with Sunferland. The City victory saw Erling Haaland walk away with three attacking returns but the headlines for Fantasy owners were more about the returns for Phil Foden who now has more FPL points in his past two than the previous 12 weeks. Should non owners steam in? Before buying the prospect of further rotation for assets should be considered in a week where predictably many players were given a rest, but perhaps it was more than just a rest for Mo Salah as he was benched again. The good news is the midweek rotation can be turned into an advantage in many scenarios in a week where everyone should be making at least one transfer ahead of receiving five free transfers in GW16. All the games covered, James has an enabling transfer on mind and even managed to come away from St James's Park with a dramatic late draw. On this episode of TAW Unwrapped, we discuss Florian Wirtz and the future of Liverpool's number 10... Liverpool got back to winning ways at the weekend with a clean sheet to boot, after a few bold changes from the manager, Arne Slot. Mo Salah was surprisingly dropped to the bench, and The Reds, it could be argued, did look better for it. It particularly freed up Florian Wirtz, who has missed the past few games since the international break with an injury, but bounced back with aplomb at the London Stadium. Are Chelsea the biggest threat to stop Arsenal's title charge? And is it a positive or a negative that Mikel Arteta's men walked away with a point against 10-man Chelsea? Plus, Liverpool got a much-needed victory over West Ham United...but with one of their biggest stars on the bench. On MNC this week Mark Chapman, Andros Townsend, Chris Sutton and Rory Smith get into the one all draw between Chelsea and Arsenal and pose the question if discipline is an issue with Enzo Maresca's side? And look into their mentality after playing with ten men. They hear from Tottenham fan Jack Hussey after Thomas Frank said the supporters who booed goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario in the match against Fulham "can't be true Tottenham fans".Attention turns to Brighton as they ended the week fifth in the Premier League table – but fans are still divided over manager Fabian Hurzeler, as fan Alice Botting explains to the guys. And Mo Salah gets discussed after he was dropped from Liverpool's starting line-up in the league for the first time since April 2024.Timecodes: 00:34 - Chelsea v Arsenal analysis. 13:00 – Tottenham section. 30:42 – Goalkeepers going down injured. 37:34 – Brighton and Fabian Hürzeler discussion. 45:50 – Liverpool and Mo Salah being on the bench.
Are Chelsea the biggest challengers to Arsenal winning the title? Are we about to see the next evolution of Liverpool after Mo Salah was benched in their win at West Ham? Why does Lucas Paqueta have to take responsibility after his stupid sending off for dissent? Suj and James discuss another eventful weekend in the Premier League, where there was largely success for Free Hitters (including Suj) but disappointment for Erling Haaland Triple Captainers, and James' Wildcard also went okay. But what's perhaps more important is what's next and a big theme around Suj and James' discussion is who might get rotated during a midweek where the spacing of games is particularly bad for Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool. The two London sides drew in Sunday's big game whilst Liverpool finally won and kept a clean sheet with Alexadner Isak on the scoresheet, but Mo Salah was an unused substitute. A rest presumably...? There's reflection on the Villa, Brentford and Manchester City assets that largely delivered well for Free Hitters, Newcastle won away with Malick Thiaw - 3rd on James' bench - scoring twice, and Newcastle assets now greatly appeal, as might Manchester United assets after their victory at Crystal Palace. But it was another miserable home day for James' Tottenham.
