It's a long journey from Kill 'Em All to 72 Seasons, but we made the trip and there's a lot to talk about. We cover our favorite tracks on every studio album, with the band's best riffs and solos along the way. There's plenty we can all agree on—Master of Puppets sits high on the hard-rock altar—and just us much that's up to debate—is it time for a critical reevaluation of the Load/Reload double-header? And 13 years on, we're still talking about Lulu. This episode brought to you by EMG: http://emgpickups.comUse code EMG100 for 15% off at checkout!Follow Nick: https://www.instagram.com/nickmillevoiFollow Jason: https://www.instagram.com/jasonshadrickGet at us: 100guitarists@premierguitar.comCall/Text: 319-423-9734Podcast powered by Sweetwater. With scalpel in hand, our fearless host attempts to trim away the bloat and mediocrity from Gun N' Roses and Metallica's infamously overstuffed double albums, “Use Your Illusion” and “Load/Reload” and combine what's left into one cohesive kick-ass album of mid-nineties hard rock n' roll. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/rocknrollautopsy/support
After touring a crapload for The Black Album and effectively unloading their classic thrash sound from the 80's, METALLICA released LOAD in June of 1996 and RELOAD in November of 1997 (same sessions, different loads). The original intent was for “The Loads” to be released as a double album (aka “One Massive Load”), but since there was concern that so much new material released at once might be “too much to swallow”, potentially overloading fans, LOAD & RELOAD were released separately as two distinct loads, united as one. While there are lingering hints of The Black Album era across both of “The Loads”, these 2 records sound like absolutely nothing else in the band's entire catalog. Loaded up with various sonic experimentations, including 70's classic rock, country, and even some slight stoner metal style riffs, “The Loads” are definitely a different flavor and texture for that little old thrash band from the Bay Area. Get your relaxers ready because it's time to “get swole” and find out which STD might help boost your self-esteem. Time to find yourself a nice “Icelandic chick”, take a load off, prepare to experience a very different version of METALLICA and JOIN US as we engage in the arduous task of BUILDING THE PERFECT LOAD. It's been done before many times, but now it's my take! Making Load/Reload one solid album that wouldn't feel that of a "letdown" for Metallica fans. In fact, we could make it even better than The Black album! (Spoiler: it's about speed, dirt, and having an instrumental track). It's Slayer week on MUYP! We sat down together at HQ2 to watch Slayer's set from The Big 4 DVD. Did they love it? Did they hate it? Did Kerry King's porcupine wrist cuff impale an unfortunate Slayer fan when he jumped into the crowd during "Raining Blood?" You'll have to listen to find out!We also discuss the Black Album boxset announcement, Metallica Blacklist, Ross Halfin's new book, European tour dates, what a possible Load/Reload medley would include and our supergroup choosing only one member of The Big Four, Enjoy! If you think Metal Up Your Podcast has value, please consider taking a brief moment to leave a positive review and subscribe on iTunes here:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/metal-up-your-podcast-all-things-metallica/id1187775077You can further support the show by becoming a patron. In this episode I talk about how I've have always loved Metallica's 1999 album S&M because of the symphonic musical impact it had mixed with some underrated songs from the 90's albums "Load/ReLoad" and how and S&M2 will showcase some new songs from there lesser liked or known album "Death Magnetic" and most likely their newest album "Hardwired...To Self Destruct" I also go a little bit into a blog I ran across on Nintendo online about what people will want most from a new version of the already 3 year old Nintendo Switch. What features are most important to them and what needs to be improved from the original. Question...will Xbox actually use the same old tactic that Playstation has systematically have been notorious for doing the last three console releases and undercut? Phil Spencer head of xbox says their console will most likely be lower that the ps5 even before they reveal their price.
We talk with our good friend Sarah Sobeck about life on the rail, the Black Ticket caravan, hanging out with Jim Breuer, doing Metallica trivia on stage in front of 20,000 people, the Load/Reload era, James' growth through the years, Freddy Krueger and, oh yeah, the Tulsa setlist which included a deep cut Soundgarden song. SHOW #12! State College, PA On this episode of Metal Tales we talk with our pal and patron Nick Mockoviak. Many of you will be familiar with Nick and his work as he is responsible for the amazing "Cover Our World Blackened, Vol. 1" artwork. An artist and art teacher in New Jersey (for real), Nick is a die hard fan. On this episode we talk about coming online during the early 90's, growing to appreciate Load/Reload, narrowly missing the MSG S&M performance, a highlight of the 9 shows Nick has been to, the influence of Pushead on his work, how to submit for the individual show posters and, of course, the Metallica show in State College.
