This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Artist's Resale Right in the UK, the royalty that allows artists and their estates to receive compensation when their works are resold. Since its introduction in 2006, ARR has generated significant income for artists while also sparking ongoing debate about who truly benefits and how it affects the art market. To explore its impact and evolution, host Adam Green speaks with Christian Zimmermann, CEO of DACS (the Design and Artists Copyright Society), the organization responsible for collecting and distributing resale royalties to visual artists and their beneficiaries in the UK. In the conversation, Christian explains how the Artist's Resale Right works in practice, the history and policy context behind its adoption, and how the art world responded at the time. They discuss common misconceptions about resale royalties, examine the evidence around who benefits most from them, and consider how resale royalty legislation has spread globally over the past two decades, as well as whether the framework may need to evolve to reflect today's increasingly international art market.

Ein Vers aus dem Römerbrief gibt ihr dabei besonders Halt. Danach geht es um das Evangelium aus dem Markus-Evangelium: Jesus kehrt in seine Heimat zurück – doch ausgerechnet dort glaubt man ihm nicht. Marion erklärt, warum Nähe und Vorurteile Glauben blockieren können und warum Jesus Grenzen respektiert, statt sie zu erzwingen. Ein stiller, ehrlicher Impuls, der lange nachklingt – und richtig Lust macht, diese Folge ganz zu hören. Aus dem Markusevangelium In jener Zeit kam Jesus in seine Heimatstadt; seine Jünger folgten ihm nach. Am Sabbat lehrte er in der Synagoge. Und die vielen Menschen, die ihm zuhörten, gerieten außer sich vor Staunen und sagten: Woher hat er das alles? Was ist das für eine Weisheit, die ihm gegeben ist? Und was sind das für Machttaten, die durch ihn geschehen? Ist das nicht der Zimmermann, der Sohn der Maria und der Bruder von Jakobus, Joses, Judas und Simon? Leben nicht seine Schwestern hier unter uns? Und sie nahmen Anstoß an ihm. Da sagte Jesus zu ihnen: Nirgends ist ein Prophet ohne Ansehen außer in seiner Heimat, bei seinen Verwandten und in seiner Familie. Und er konnte dort keine Machttat tun; nur einigen Kranken legte er die Hände auf und heilte sie. Und er wunderte sich über ihren Unglauben.
