The hope of the resurrection radically changed the way Paul lived. His life counted. His suffering was meaningful.
Because of Jesus's resurrection, he now has the glory for which we were made. Our ultimate destiny is to see him as he is.
Pastor Derek explores the 2 Ascensions of Christ. First He ascended on the morning of His resurrection after appearing to Mary Magdalene (John 20:17), and again 40 days later, as described in Acts 1, after which He sat down at God's right hand. The 4 Purposes for His 1st Ascension: *1. To fulfil the Feast of First Fruits on the day of His resurrection (1Corinthians 15:20-23). *2. To present His BLOOD in the heavenly holy of holies, to establish the New Covenant (Hebrews 9:12). *3. To receive ALL AUTHORITY (Matthew 28:18, Daniel 7:13-14, Philippians 2:9-11): *4. To receive the SPIRIT on our behalf, to give to His people (Acts 2:33). That is why He could impart the Spirit to His apostles later on the same day He rose again (John 20:22).

One Year Bible Podcast: Join Hunter and Heather Barnes on 'The Daily Radio Bible' for a daily 20-minute spiritual journey. Engage with scripture readings, heartfelt devotionals, and collective prayers that draw you into the heart of God's love. Embark on this year-long voyage through the Bible, and let each day's passage uplift and inspire you. TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome to a very special Christmas Eve episode of the Daily Radio Bible. Today, Hunter invites us to gather around the Scriptures—not just to read stories, but to let our hearts be drawn to Jesus, the source of life. Although our reading from John chapters 19 through 21 focuses on the death and resurrection of Jesus rather than His birth, Hunter reminds us how profound it is that the same God who arrived as a small child in a Bethlehem manger is also the one who brings salvation through the cross. In this episode, we witness the final moments of Jesus' life, His resurrection, and the hope that continues through His transformation of lives—reminding us that His work is ongoing, even today. Hunter leads us in reflection, prayer, and encouragement as we remember God's unwavering love, His presence in our suffering, and the peace He offers us all. Whether you're feeling joy or carrying heartache this season, you're invited to experience the true meaning of Christmas: love, compassion, and new life in Christ. TODAY'S DEVOTION: He is the God of many other things. As John ends his gospel, he reminds us that if everything Jesus did were written down, even the whole world could not contain the books. The story doesn't end in the past—those "other things" continue on, even today. Jesus is still with us, still transforming lives. He shows up behind locked doors, and locked hearts, bringing hope in places touched by grief and suffering. As Hunter reflects, Christ is present even now, amidst rubble and despair, with those grieving in Gaza, and with those experiencing loss in Israel. Wherever there is heartache, Christ whispers peace: "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you." He invites us to follow him—not just as spectators, but as participants in his love and compassion. On this Christmas Eve, we are reminded to move beyond our failures, to step into the new life Christ offers. He calls us, as he called Peter, to feed his sheep—to lay down our lives in service and love for others, just as he did for us. His purpose for us is clear: to go into the world and become instruments of peace, channels of hope, bearers of joy. Let the reality of Christ's resurrection—his conquering of death, and the peace won for us—shape how we live, especially today. When we move beyond our limitations and into his path, compassion, love, and purpose become not just possibilities, but our way of life. May we surrender our hearts anew to the abiding, transforming presence of Christ, and let him continue to write new books in the story of our lives. May we go forth in his love and joy, knowing that we are loved, and called to love. That's my prayer for my soul, for my family, and for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen. Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. And now Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. And where there is sadness, Joy. Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ. Amen. 2024-04-01 - Believing the Resurrection of Christ: John 20 [FcnD62XlRF0] by Salvador Flores III
Preached by Simon Donohoe as part of the series "The 39 Articles." Article 4: Of the resurrection of Christ Christ did truly rise again from death, and took again his body, with flesh, bones, and all things appertaining to the perfection of Man's nature; wherewith he ascended into Heaven, and there sitteth, until he return to judge all Men at the last day.
Message by Pastor Doug Bunnell, recorded live September 7, 2025 at First Presbyterian Church of Bellingham. Scripture read by Nicki Bailey.Heaven is Not the GoalGetting to heaven is not our hope, we look forward to resurrected bodies on a renewed earth. What are the core elements of the gospel according to verses 3–4? Why is the resurrection essential to the gospel message?Do you ever struggle to believe in the resurrection? How do these witnesses help confirm your faith? What does it mean for you personally to “hold firmly” to the gospel? What “mystery” is Paul revealing in verses 51–52? What takes the sting away from death? (v. 55–57)How does this passage give you hope when facing loss or thinking about your own mortality? 1 Corinthians 15:1-8, 51-58 1 Now I want you to understand, brothers and sisters, the good news that I proclaimed to you, which you in turn received, in which also you stand, 2 through which also you are being saved, if you hold firmly to the message that I proclaimed to you—unless you have come to believe in vain.3 For I handed on to you as of first importance what I in turn had received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures 4 and that he was buried and that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers and sisters at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died. 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 8 Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me.51 Look, I will tell you a mystery! We will not all die, but we will all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For this perishable body must put on imperishability, and this mortal body must put on immortality. 54 When this perishable body puts on imperishability and this mortal body puts on immortality, then the saying that is written will be fulfilled:“Death has been swallowed up in victory.”55 “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.58 Therefore, my beloved brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord because you know that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.
Christ's resurrection is God's declaration that we cannot work our way to glory, but that he intends to do the impossible to get us there.
In his book Jeremiah Johnston makes the case that the evidence leads us to believe that Jesus physically and bodily rose from the dead. He sets forth seven convincing reasons to hold to the resurrection of Jesus. It is a matter of life and death, for if the resurrection is NOT true then we are men most miserable! Jesus' resurrection is more than a Christian talking point, it is the death blow to the criticism of the reality of Jesus being alive today. We, Scott and Gabe, need to know if you guys like the content. Eucatastrophe, a term coined by J.R.R. Tolkien, encapsulates the sudden, unexpected joy that breaks through moments of despair. Drawing from Tolkien's essay "On Fairy Stories", this episode delves into how eucatastrophe shapes his works, from The Silmarillion to The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Through key moments of unexpected hope in Tolkien's stories—like the eagles' arrival at the Battle of the Five Armies and the destruction of the One Ring—listeners will explore how Tolkien's concept mirrors the ultimate eucatastrophe in Christian theology: the Resurrection of Christ. The episode highlights how Tolkien's deep Christian faith informed his view of hope, sorrow, and redemption, and reflects on how these themes continue to resonate today. My Favorite Resurrection StoryTwo Believers unknowingly walk with the Resurrected Christ, who explains the scriptures about Himself, and eventually, breaks bread—reminiscent of the Sacrament.Luke 24:13–35Share this episode using this link:ringspodcast.com/209Who are you? Please tell me a little about you: ringspodcast.com/surveyWander Farther: A Free Chapter GuideDownload my free chapter guide for "Flight to the Ford": ringspodcast.com/flightDeals for you, my fellow wandererExclusive discount for Lore of the Rings Listeners: 25% off your entire order at Manly Bands.
