And while we stay away from covering international games, it's worth noting that there were LA Galaxy connections on both sides of the field. Your hosts, Josh Guesman (LA Galaxy Beat Reporter) and Kevin Baxter (LA Times Soccer Reporter), are back to talk about all the interesting storylines to come out of that game. That includes talking about current Galaxy players Giancarlo Gonzalez, Julian Araujo, and Sebastian Lletget. And it also includes talking about former Galaxy products Ariel Lassiter, and Ully Llanez and whether or not the Galaxy missed the boat on these guys. During that conversation, Josh and Kevin will discuss what is expected from Araujo and Lletget as they both enter pivotal years in their developments, and they'll talk about how Llanez got away. And does that mean that Llanez is never coming back? The guys will also talk about the departure of Jorgen Skjelvik, why the Galaxy aren't acknowledging Romain Alessandrini (don't get your hopes up), and Kevin's first impressions of Victoria Block. Do you like the name? Does it matter (No!)? Finally, the Guys will discuss the Galaxy's preseason scrimmage with Vancouver and tell you why Chicharito is a big question mark. And which international finally made his way to DHSP? Emiliano Insúa is finally in Los Angeles. Could he make a debut in the scrimmage? Things are heating up in Los Angeles. And with the CBA still up in the air, could there be big news this week? Or are we looking at another extension? Everything is covered in today's show. We hope you enjoy it!

And while the two happenings are not related, it's essential to understand the success one had and the promise the other brings. On today's show, your hosts Josh Guesman and Kevin Baxter are back to discuss all the details of both situations and give you the latest Galaxy news as well. The guys will start by talking about the impact Alessandrini had on the Galaxy and how he was the lone bright spot in a horrific 2017 season. But it's also about his success in 2018 and why injuries ultimately made him too expensive to keep in a restricted salary structure. Plus, Josh will dip into the enigma that is the fan-favorite. And the guys will discuss what Alessandrini did to make himself adored by most who watched the Galaxy. Was it just pure effort? Or was it more? Then the guys will shift their focus into all the details of the Chicharito signing. That includes the scheduled announcement of the player, his arrival in LA, and when the likely press conference will be held. Plus, Kevin gets into the details of Chicharito's contract, how many years are guaranteed, and what the incentives could include. But while this once again illustrates the lack of information coming from teams and the League, we're not sure it's anything worth panicking over. On today's show, your hosts Josh Guesman and Eric Vieira are back to discuss all the latest Galaxy news. And there's a surprising amount. The guys will start with Sebastian Lletget's new contract and why he might be getting overpaid. Is Lletget worth a TAM contract? Is this MLS trying to prove a big point of contention with the Players' Union before negotiating a new CBA? Or is this the League and the Galaxy valuing a fan-favorite, and USMNT talent over others at a similar skill level? Josh and Eric will then tell you what happened in the MLS Expansion Draft. And like we predicted on Monday's show, the Galaxy didn't have any selected -- and that's not a good thing. Do the Galaxy have no viable talent that another team wants? Or is this just a matter of a changing of the guard that will see another REBUILD by Dennis te Kloese and Guillermo Barros Schelotto. Have you seen the renderings of the proposed Safe-Standing sections the Galaxy are putting in on the North end? We'll explain what it looks and talk about the Supporter's meetup that is happening soon. Finally, the guys will go over the entire list of the options the Galaxy exercised and declined on Thursday. This includes telling you why Diego Polenta, Romain Alessandrini, and Skjelvik could all not be on the roster in 2020. Are you nervous about bringing Alessandrini back? Do you think Polenta NEEDS to come back? And are you sure Skjelvik will stay in LA in 2020? We've got a packed show with tons of Galaxy info that you're not going to want to miss! The 23-year-old will now be listed as a Designated Player and will continue to take up an international spot. And that's all good news, as there's another piece to a big offseason puzzle that is known. But the Galaxy have a bunch to do, including getting through this MLS Expansion Draft on Tuesday. Your hosts, Josh Guesman (Beat Reporter) and Kevin Baxter (LA Times Soccer Writer), take you through both the "Protected" and "Unprotected" list and tell you where the Galaxy left themselves exposed. They also tell you what they think Miami and Nashville might be looking for in an expansion player and what that could mean for the club. But buried beneath all that talk is what the Galaxy will need to do to get Romain Alessandrini back on the roster. With Pavon currently taking up a DP slot, and with Jonathon dos Santos coming back next year, will the Galaxy risk a DP slot on Alessandrini? Or are they looking at a much smaller number for the 30-year-old Frenchman? The pressure is now on to make a deal with Alessandrini or let him go. But if the Galaxy let him go, will they have the core group of players to continue their rise in the standings? Could the Galaxy regress in 2020? And would someone lose their job? Sprinkled in-between all of that news and conjecture is a rumor update or two, a discussion on the MLS All-Star Game, AND an honest conversation about star power in Major League Soccer. Chief among the many decisions the Galaxy have to make, Zlatan Ibrahimovic's future, and whether to bring back Romain Alessandrini are just some of the high-stakes gambling the club is getting ready to undertake. Hosts Josh Guesman (LA Galaxy Beat Reporter) and Kevin Baxter (LA Times Soccer Writer) are both in-studio to talk about what they learned from the interviews and what that could mean for the Galaxy's future. Josh and Kevin will start with Jonathan dos Santos and what can be expected from the Mexican International in the coming seasons. They'll discuss his contract details and ask is five years too long for a player of his quality? The guys will also discuss the other players who talked on Wednesday and what their futures hold for the next season. Then they'll transition to the many interesting details that LA Galaxy General Manager Dennis te Kloese discussed in his nearly 30 minutes in front of the camera. But perhaps most interesting will be when Josh and Kevin breakdown the roster and tell you which players have a contract for 2020 and which players might be out of contract for next season. It's far from definitive, but we're also talking about details that haven't been released or confirmed anywhere else. And that includes Josh's discussion of the trade of Dave Romney and why the player might have been moved to Nashville. But the futures of Favio Alvarez and Diego Polenta are also up for grabs. Should the Galaxy bring them back? And who else could be retiring this year and is unlikely to be back in 2020? Finally, the guy will dive into Major League Soccer's most valuable franchises and why the Forbes articles don't tell the whole story. There's plenty of interjection about the CBA, the Players Union, and team chemistry as well. It's a packed show full of Galaxy news you won't get anywhere else! Enjoy it!

On today's show, your hosts Josh Guesman and Larry Morgan discuss the Galaxy's latest news while also talking about some of the more exciting stories from the last week. The guys will start by revealing their End-of-Season team ballots. Most years, the Galaxy ask media members to vote on Player of the Year and Defender of the Year for the current Galaxy season. And while there's little argument over who is the Player of the Year is, there might be some discussion about Defender of the Year. And both Josh and Larry are here to tell you that there shouldn't be any discussion. There are CLEAR winners for both. Then they'll talk about a hypothetical situation that puts Giovani dos Santos back on this team for 2019. Could the Galaxy have thrived with the Mexican International on the field this year? Next, Josh and Larry discuss the injury updates on Romain Alessandrini and Joe Corona. This is where Josh argues that one of these injuries and players is WAY more important than the other. Who is the key to the Galaxy's success or failure against Minnesota? Finally, Larry drops his wealth of knowledge about the Galaxy's last road playoff win, and together, they'll discuss who has the most Galaxy playoff experience. Can you name a current member of the roster that has more playoff appearances than anyone else on the team? And will that help or hurt the Galaxy? We're all feeling things we have never felt with Sporting Kansas City on the brink of elimination before the playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade. Cody and Robert sit down for some group therapy, or a podcast, rather. Certain players will have a lot to prove before the offseason arrives, but first we look at this weekend's match-up against Zlatan and the Los Angeles Galaxy. The podcast was recorded just before the Major League Soccer Wednesday night matches, but SKC is focusing on four teams. RSL, DAL, POR, and LAG are technically within striking distance and SKC needs at least two of them to falter. Which two teams give us the best chance to make a miraculous run to the post season? Peter Vermes has a lot of decisions to make this off season. But the players have a few more games to make their mark. We go line-by-line to decide who has the most to prove. Daniel Salloi is the most obvious, but a couple players on the backline have questions to be answered as well. And can Erik Hurtado cement himself in this club's future plans? The Galaxy have shown a few cracks lately and Robert thinks their defense has a lot of problems for Sporting to exploit. But how do you stop Zlatan Ibrahimovic and his 23 goals - should you focus on him, or preventing the service to him? Cristian Pavón has been a fantastic addition to the league and it's possible we could see the return of Romain Alessandrini. There aren't many questions about the lineup this weekend, except in the midfield. Does Ilie Sanchez resume his starting role or will Felipe Gutierrez start at holding midfield with Benny Feilhaber getting the nod again? Learn more about your ad choices. COG MERCHANDISE (SCARVES, T-SHIRTS, BUTTONS, COASTERS): http://www.cornerofthegalaxy.com/SHOP COG STUDIOS, Calif. -- The LA Galaxy finished out a very successful month of April with a win over Real Salt Lake on Sunday evening. It was another case of the club not playing perfect soccer, but doing enough to win the game. And the best player on the field for the Galaxy was readily apparent. On today's show, your hosts, reporters Josh Guesman and Kevin Baxter, are back to talk about the imperfect Galaxy and why their shortcomings might mean the best is yet to come. Did you get a glimpse of how good the Galaxy can be during the first half of the game? Josh thinks you did and he's willing to explain. Also, the Galaxy shouldn't try and hide behind fatigue for the reason they were not good in the second half of the win. But that second half also saw them score the game-winning goal. The guys will even dive into Zlatan Ibrahimovic's ridiculous goalscoring pace and why you already know what you're going to get from his behavior. And yes, it's going to hurt the club. But that's part of the Ibrahimovic package. Did you think he was out of line with his trash talking against Real Salt Lake? Do you think his teammates are sick of his act on the field? Does winning cure everything? The guys will also discuss the long-term injury to Romain Alessandrini and why Chris Pontius is the short term answer to the Galaxy's offensive injury problems and why the club is running out of time to sign a versatile playmaker. Finally, the guys take a look at the Galaxy's hectic May schedule. And Kevin will clue you in on how the Galaxy plan on using one of their four charter flights coming soon. It's a packed show that is sure to have you laugh, scream, and enjoy the more than 70 minutes of Galaxy-talk. Music Provided by Back Pocket Memory

"The Minnesota game was better." "The LA Galaxy weren't as good with Zlatan Ibrahimovic." Those are all the lines we saw after the Galaxy beat the Portland Timbers on Sunday evening at Dignity Health Sports Park in a game that saw Ibrahimovic and Romain Alessandrini return from injuries. But they're all wrong and we're here to give you over 90 minutes of Galaxy-talk to "prove it." Your hosts, soccer reporters Josh Guesman and Kevin Baxter, are back to discuss the Galaxy's 2-1 win over the Timbers and what each of them saw from the win. They're going to talk about the players that impressed and why the Timbers were never interested in winning the game. The five-man backline, the lack of forwards, and the way they scored their goal all pointed to a gameplan that was supposed to stifle the Galaxy's attack. And it all worked right up to the point where they thought they could limit Ibrahimovic. And they watched as their most dangerous players were gobbled up by superior midfield. On the show, the guys are going to get you through rumors, point you away from April Fool's jokes, and get you all the news and information about the Galaxy you need ahead of a short week against Vancouver. Plus, Kevin and Josh discuss the controversy around Kevin's newsletter and what Kevin was saying when he wrote it. And if you disagree, he's more than willing to have a respectable conversation about it. It's a packed show that has all the information on the Galaxy's historically fast start, and what we can expect in a traveling team for the club's trip against the Vancouver Whitecaps. COG MERCHANDISE (SCARVES, T-SHIRTS, BUTTONS, COASTERS): http://www.cornerofthegalaxy.com/SHOP COG STUDIOS, Calif. – The LA Galaxy just put together one of the most beautiful displays of soccer they've had in over two years. The passing was quick and precise, the movement was unpredictable, and the result was near total domination of visiting Minnesota United on Saturday night. On today's show, your hosts Josh Guesman and Kevin Baxter are waking up way too early on a Sunday morning to bring you a special edition of Corner of the Galaxy from the (press) Box. The guys will brave the early hour to ensure they bring you all the information you wanted to know about the game before Panda departs to cover the US and Mexican National teams. The guys will start by talking about the superb night Uriel Antuna had and why he was the key to the entire match. They'll also discuss Antuna's placement in a 4-3-3 formation, and why Guillermo Barros Schelotto was right to bring out that formation. Is that kind of performance what you've been expecting from a Schelotto coached team? Josh and Kevin will then talk about the other major players for the Galaxy including Sebastian Lletget and why the masked-man only kept the mask on for about 30 seconds, and why his partners, Joe Corona and Jonathan dos Santos, were also outstanding on the night. They'll also talk about the Galaxy's defense and why being near-perfect almost wasn't enough. But they got some great performances from nearly all of the back four. The guys may even single out a couple on the defense that needs to do a little bit more to make the night truly outstanding. Finally, Josh and Kevin will give you a unique story about 17-year-old Julian Araujo and the latest in crazy rumors that have hit the Galaxy. Could the real Pato please stand up? It's a packed show for a game that was one of the best executed in many years. So what happens when Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romain Alessandrini come back? Do the Galaxy get worse? Pffffttttt! We've got more than 60-minutes of Galaxy-talk headed your way!

COG MERCHANDISE (SCARVES, T-SHIRTS, BUTTONS, COASTERS): http://www.cornerofthegalaxy.com/SHOP COG STUDIOS, Calif. – The LA Galaxy didn’t have a fun trip to Texas. First, they forgot Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romain Alessandrini (both injured), and then Diego Polenta goes all Michael Ciani on FC Dallas and gifts them a penalty kick. To make matters worse, Sebastian Lletget broke his nose in the eventual 2-0 loss in Frisco. But on today’s show, your hosts Josh Guesman and Kevin Baxter, are back to break down the game, get you updated on team and alumni news, and answer your questions – if that isn’t GREAT news then we don’t know what is. Panda and Pato will start by updating you on Baggio Husidic’s retirement and the, somewhat surprising, homegrown signing of Ethan Zubak. Are the 2019 Galaxy looking to answer in the same way the 2017 Galaxy looked for answers? Are these signings being made out of necessity, or are they being made because these players are ready? Then the guys get into the loss against Dallas and why the Galaxy’s lack of offensive weapons means the club could rapidly be shifting priorities. Do the Galaxy need a striker to back up Zlatan, or a defender to solidify the back four? Has the Galaxy defense been bad in the first two games? And are fans ready to toss Polenta out of the starting lineup? Josh and Kevin will then get you into any Galaxy rumors that are swirling around before answer all of your critical questions. Could the Galaxy be recalling Bradford Jamieson? And where are the Galaxy “scouting” for answers to all these questions? Plus, will the upcoming schedule give the club some easy wins? Unlikely! We’re back with over 75 minutes of Galaxy-talk, and we do it like nobody else ever could! Music Provided by Back Pocket Memory

But could the club be keeping all four, and is that now what seems the most likely resolution? On today’s show, your host Josh Guesman is joined by guest-host Delmy Barillas, to talk about which option the Galaxy seem to be leaning and to figure out if the club can really have their cake and eat it too. First, the hosts talk about the man with three nicknames, Javier Valdecantos and why he might have the media running laps in the very near future. Is the media mix-up something to be worried about? Or is this just a clash of cultures? Next, Josh and Delmy dive into the comments made by Galaxy head coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto and why his comments may have been telling us exactly what the club was going to do from the very beginning. Also, we discuss Jonathan dos Santos’ comments about his brother, Giovani dos Santos, and why that also lines up with the latest thinking. But should Romain Alessandrini face the brunt of the consequences for Giovani’s failures? Is that fair to the Frenchman? And could the Galaxy make sure they treat Alessandrini right by helping him in other ways? We’ve got a packed show that is filled with breaking Galaxy news on João Pedro, analysis and quotes from the club’s newest signing, Uriel Antuna, and much, much more as the club prepares for their first preseason game of the 2019 season. COG STUDIOS, Calif. -- The LA Galaxy are just one week away from starting their 2019 preseason and they still have four designated players. Should this worry fans? Or does the club have a plan in place? On today's show, your hosts Josh Guesman and Kevin Baxter get you ready for the beginning of the 2019 preseason by updating you on the latest news and discussing the latest rumors to surround the club. The guys will talk about the results of the Galaxy's 2019 SuperDraft and why regardless of who they picked, it wasn't about success this season. But the Galaxy also have to answer why they didn't make any late-round selections. Do they not have the talent or scouting to be able to evaluate more than two rounds deep? Josh and Kevin will also talk about why Romain Alessandrini might go to Parma instead of staying with the Galaxy and why Giovani dos Santos' future with Los Angeles seems to be drawing to a close. Finally, the guys will make sure they answer your questions and tell you about the official signing of Emmanuel Boateng. Are the Galaxy trading dollars to make more signings? And how much money do the Galaxy have to make additional signings? We've got a packed show and we're glad you could join us! Music Provided by Back Pocket Memory

Welcome back to another edition of the Sons of a Pitch: An American Soccer Podcast! Tonight, we put listener @eric_turner7 in the driver seat, answering his questions and discussing the latest news from around the league. With Atlanta United coming off an MLS Cup victory, undergoing a lot of roster changes, and matching up against Liga MX club Monterrey or Sporting KC in the 2nd round of the Concacaf Champions League, the odds are definitely against the Five Stripes making a deep run. Mike shares how Atlanta can learn from Toronto FC's run in 2018 and why they might be able to overcome the challenges that await. Next, Nick dives into the MLS Combine and SuperDraft, sharing different philosophies. FC Cincinnati, needing to fill a new MLS roster, traded to acquire draft picks, for a total of 7. They're building through the draft. Philadelphia Union, who traded 5 picks to FCC, needs the money to build through signings, while the Red Bulls and FC Dallas are known to build through their academies. In other player news, Mike breaks down how the LA Galaxy can get out of having 4 Designated Players on their roster (rules mandate no more than 3). While Gio dos Santos is the likely move, having grossly under-performed, the Galaxy could most easily move Romain Alessandrini, who has been the brightest star for the Galaxy over the last several seasons. Finally and after listening to an interview with GM Nelson Rodriguez, Nick goes on a rant against the Chicago Fire. Not only is Rodriguez a terrible interview, he offered no concrete plan for the future, no evidence of future signings, and supports a coach who players have been fleeing from. Mike breaks down the current Fire roster and isn't optimistic either. With only weeks to go before training camp, Chicago only has 4 defenders and 2 goalkeepers on their roster - and neither GK should be starting in the MLS. Keep your eyes open for more underwhelming moves by the Fire. Thanks again for listening, be sure to follow us on twitter @SOPSoccer, and let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
