Sunday Night Soccer was a rough experience for FC Cincinnati as they took a hard road loss to Atlanta United, a team that has been struggling with only 4 goals in a winless 8 game stretch. Despite the odds being in Cincy's favor, the Five Stripes dropped 4 goals in this one, doubling Cincinnati's offensive output. But the biggest loss of the match was the Cincinnati Kid, Nick Hagglund, who suffered two broken ribs and a collapsed lung in a 10th minute collision with Emmanuel Latte Lath. In episode 421 of Cincinnati Soccer Talk, Brian, Coach and Jose discuss the match, the missed chances and the missed calls that sent the Orange and Blue home without a point. The crew breaks it all down and sits down with our friends at the Five Takes on Five Stripes podcast from Footie Mob to explore what makes Atlanta United's supporter culture so electric. The crew relives one of the most dominant performances in Nashville SC history—a 7-2 demolition of Chicago Fire. Sam Surridge etched his name in the record books with an incredible four-goal outing, becoming the first player in club history to accomplish the feat. From Surridge's precision finishing to Hany Mukhtar's MVP-caliber resurgence and Shaffelburg's explosive playmaking, the hosts dissect every key moment and ask what it all means for Nashville's pursuit of 50 goals this season. But this episode isn't just about the scoreboard. The second half features a special crossover with the crew from Atlanta United's Footie Mob and the "Five Takes on the Five Stripes" podcast. Together, they dig into what sets Southern soccer culture apart—from supporter group dynamics and inclusive community work to what the Nashville-Atlanta rivalry has grown into and why it stands out from forced MLS rivalries elsewhere. This episode is both a celebration of an unforgettable win and a reflection on the heart and soul of fan-led soccer culture in the South. Whether you're hyped about Nashville's trajectory or curious about the camaraderie and competition brewing between Music City and ATL, you'll want to catch every minute.
Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso from the SDH Network, brought to you by Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse.First time in Atlanta United history that they have lost back-to-back games by three goals or more as the Five Stripes lost 3-0 in Orlando on Saturday night. First goal was given after a lengthy VAR check but the second half performance was poor and Atlanta never looked dangerous or looked like getting back into the match. Big week ahead with Nashville, who won 7-2 on Saturday night over Chicago, coming to town.Vancouver remains the top team in MLS this season after a 3-1 win at Minnesota. Miami lost its unbeaten start to the regular season, losing 4-3 at home to Dallas on a day where its stars were rested ahead of the Whitecaps' visit in the second leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup semifinal later this week. Portland are unbeaten in 7 after their 4-2 win over the LA Galaxy on the road. Denis Bouanga's late spectacular equalizer rescued a point for LAFC at home against St. Louis. Cincinnati is the top team in the East after Kevin Denkey's Goal of the Year contender of a bicycle kick helped them win 2-1 over Kansas City.Barcelona won the Copa del Rey 3-2 over Real Madrid in extra time, Jules Kounde with a 22-yard smash to win it. Real Madrid had 3 players sent off after the go-ahead goal and after the final whistle as their meltdown and poor behavior regarding referees continues. Carlo Ancelotti is expected to finish the La Liga season now as talks continue about him taking over as the Brazilian national team manager with Spanish outlet Marca still continuing the conversation about Jurgen Klopp's potential as the next manager in Madrid. Xabi Alonso is widely regarded as the front runner for that job.Liverpool won their 20th English top-flight title, and their 2nd Premier League title, with their win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. Arne Slot is the third manager in club history to win the title in his first season at the club and the 5th to win the Premier League title in his first season across all clubs. Mo Salah has equaled Alan Shearer and Andy Cole's record for goal contributions in a season, they did it in 42 games and Salah has done it in 34, he still has 4 games to set the record outright. Arsenal came back in the second leg to beat Lyon to advance to the UEFA Women's Champions League final. They lost 2-1 in the home leg but won 4-1 in the away leg in the France to meet Barcelona, who defeated Chelsea 4-1 in each leg of their semifinal series. Napoli has taken control of Serie A with a win powered by two goals from Scott McTominay. Inter lost to Roma earlier in the day on Sunday. The African Champions League will see Mamelodi Sundowns, who defeated the current champions Al Ahly in Cairo thanks to a stoppage time own goal, face Pyramids FC, who came back twice against Orlando Pirates. Join Madison Crews and me for midgame pregame coverage starting at 10:50 followed by the resumption of the match in the 25th minute at 11am. Listen on soccerdownhere.mixlr.com. Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso from the SDH Network, brought to you by Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse.Atlanta United was lacking in their 1-1 draw with Dallas on Saturday night. They had more control and possession, but the final pass wasn't there consistently enough as the team had some of it's lowest outputs for shot created actions and key passes this season. Perhaps that was down to Alexey Miranchuk's adductor injury that forced him to come off the bench, he nearly won the match late with a cross to Jamal Thiare that was headed wide. Tristan Muyumba was brilliant on the ball and defensively in the match, a deserving Man of the Match in the midfield. We'll see what is taken away from the night and what is built upon this week as the Five Stripes prepare to host New England next Saturday afternoon. We'll have Training Ground Dispatch on Tuesday and Thursday this week to break everything down. Toronto played their best game of the season last night on Sunday Night Soccer as they drew 1-1 with Miami. Great goals from Bernardeschi and Messi late in the first half. Vancouver and San Diego are taking control in the Western Conference after nice wins on Saturday. Kansas City got their first win since last September in a 2-0 win over St. Louis in Kerry Zavagnin's first match in charge. San Jose destroyed DC on the anniversary of the first ever match in league history, Josef Martinez turned back the clock for another hat trick to add to his record setting tally in MLS.Trinity Rodman scored in her return to the USWNT, leading a 2-0 win over Brazil at SoFi Stadium in LA. They'll play again tomorrow night. The US U17 women earned qualification to the World Cup in Morocco later this year after a 7-0 win over El Salvador in qualifying.Southampton became the earliest team to be relegated in Premier League history and are on pace to have the lowest point total ever. Ivan Juric was sacked this morning after winning one league match in his 100+ days in charge. In Brazil, the federation has banned players from standing on the ball in matches. Memphis Depay, Neymar, Gabigol, and others have criticized the decision. Players who now stand on the ball during a game will get a yellow card and the ball will be turned over to the opponent via a goal kick. Yes, the move is a taunt. Don't like it? Don't let players have the opportunity to do it. Want to get back at them? You'll have your chances in the match. Silliness all the way around. More Espresso tomorrow on the SDH Network, presented by Oglethorpe University.
Gather around as Abe Gordon and others recap a disappointing 1-1 draw at home against FC Dallas!
It certainly was a game that happened, Blue Ballers. Jake and Trey take their reluctant seats to try and figure out what the fuck happened in the 3-4 loss to Atlanta's Five Stripes that looked, for all intents and purposes, like a 3-1 victory was imminent. We talk direct action in the first 45, turning point moments, fault analysis, cool heads and hotheads, and wonder where we go from here. Then: some check-ins on other leagues and other sports to get the taste out of our mouths. Plus: a recap for Sunday evening dinner. Will we have roast Loon on the plate, or will we get iced by Minnesota nice? Start ironing the crotch on your Sunday finest — you've got Blue Balls.

As much as it appears the sky is falling for FC Cincinnati, that comes from intense pressure and high expectations. The Orange & Blue's next opponents, Atlanta United, are also under the microscope from a rough first month after a massive offseason. It doesn't help that both squads are depleted from injury and international duties. We talk with Jason from Soccer Down Here and his work at 92.9 The Game to read the temperature before Saturday's match. Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso from the SDH Network, brought to you by Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse. Good preseason win for Atlanta United on Saturday afternoon in Bradenton against New England. Miguel Almirón started and played into the second half for the Five Stripes. Ronny Deila spoke afterwards about Almirón's positioning and wants him to have the freedom on the offensive side but discipline defensively. I think we saw that, overall the defensive side of the team looked good in the win and the offensive chemistry will come with time. Latte Lath could join training this week, Brooks Lennon is back in training already and might ahead of schedule, and Stian Gregersen should be available to play in Wednesday's Bradenton finale against Cincinnati. Cupsets in Britain as Liverpool's race to the quadruple was dashed by Plymouth Argyle, who are on the bottom of the Championship. Their manager went home to celebrate with nachos and Fanta... yes that's what he said. Queen's Park in Scotland went one better, upsetting Rangers after saving a 95th minute penalty and earning a win over the Scottish giant for the first time since 1882. Atleti were given a dubious penalty in their 1-1 draw with Real Madrid on Saturday. While you might be able to justify the call, it's the kind of call that we shouldn't want to see in games. Barcelona won on the weekend, so La Liga has 3 teams separated by 2 points at the top. Christian Pulisic is tied for the Serie A lead in assists after 2 in Milan's 2-0 win over Empoli. River Plate ended Independiente's unbeaten start to the season in Argentina, while the Uruguayan Clásico finished 1-1 between Peñarol and Nacional. Clubs are still adding players in MLS with the window open into April. On the silly season front, it looks like Eduard Atuesta's move to Orlando is back on. Benjamin Rollheiser is reportedly headed to Botafogo in Brazil as opposed to MLS, but a Botafogo striker could be headed to the LA Galaxy on loan. More Espresso on Monday on the SDH Network, presented by Oglethorpe University.
