As broadcast March 4, 2022 with plenty of brogue of your Scotscast experience. Tonight we welcomed the Glasgow-based DIY artist Community Swimming Pool to the show to talk about some of his favorite tunes and inspirational artists while he rocked an hour two playlist of his own concoction. We riffed on disappointing our fathers with our musical tastes, how inspiring Prince is to the artist since he's also a "wee man," and why he chose the tunes he did. Great cuts for the full two hours from Talking Heads, Hovvdy, Turnover, and Her's amongst other notable entries in the playlist. Do check Community Swimming Pool's debut album from last year "Gloom/Bloom" if you'd like to hear more.#feelthegravityTracklisting:Part I (00:00)Talk Talk – It's My LifeMethyl Ethel – Trip The MainsBeach Fossils - AdversityThe Cars – Moving In StereoDIIV – Bent (Roi's Song)Helena Deland – Truth Nugget Part II (34:57)Community Swimming Pool – Be Your ManCommunity Swimming Pool – I Don't Wanna Lose YouToro y Moi – BlessaLittle Dragon – Another LoverThe Avalanches – If I Was A Folk StarWild Nothing – Midnight SongSeapony – Late Summer Part III (61:56)Community Swimming Pool – i don't know Yazoo – Only YouBeach Fossils – What A PleasurePrince – I Wanna Be Your LoverPorches – I Miss ThatHovvdy – Around Again Part IV (94:00)Community Swimming Pool – another heartThe Blue Nile – Tinseltown In The RainTalking Heads – This Must Be The Place (Naïve Melody)Her's – What Once WasTurnover – New ScreamThe Cars - Drive

(Requested by: Frosting Heartin Whipcream) Lyrics: I'll cook up a solution with the knowledge I've accrued They say a kitchen time saves nine, but I'm just saving two I've gathered the ingredients to make some time sorbet There's hardly room for seconds when the seconds melt away! Watch as I work my gypsy magic Eye of a newt and cinnamon Watch as the matter turns to batter Open the portal, jump in! (pause) Crude stew, do you fear it Apple Bloom? Sometimes life is not a cake walk served up on a silver spoon Toss a fig and save the date and bread and butter chant and mutter, marination, incantation, chocolate icing, timeline splicing, yeast is rising, rectifying (pause) (Pinkie's parents): Pinkie if you're hearing this it means we're dead and gone Please don't bake a portal; just accept it and move on (pinkie) My cauldron is preheated and I've got you in my thrall Let's beat these yolks and save my folks by baking the fourth wall! Watch as I work my gypsy magic Seapony tears and provolone God help the outcast with her witchcraft Someday I'm gonna go home Someday, I'm gonna go home

Summer, summer, summertime! I threw this one together at the last minute, but I think I did a pretty good job of capturing the mood of this lazy, hazy, hot July. Random Old Records Podcast #33 drifts by in a dreamy blur of psychedelic moods, shimmering reverb guitar, and loping dance beats, with a mix of new and old tracks. If you're one of those people who are melting in this punishing 100+ degree heatwave rocking the midwest, and just want to sit around in a dark room getting lifted all day, this is the podcast for you!Episode #33 kicks off with the all-time classic opening medley from the debut LP by The Soft Machine, a towering groove filled with stunning drums from Robert Wyatt, screeching organs, and slow-burning instrumental fury, and goes into some screaming garage psych from The Night Beats and Thee Oh Sees, then a Brit-psych style workout from The Paperhead, who put out one of the best LPs of the year on Trouble In Mind a few months back. I've been raving about them ever since, and now I'm SUPER-PUMPED that they're playing a free show at one of the best new venues in Cincinnati, MOTR Pub, on July 27th. If you're anywhere close, come check it out! Also, check out the perfect lo-fi 60s psych vibe of Jeffrey Novak on this episode of Random Old Records. He just so happens to be the producer of The Paperhead LP, and will be guesting on keyboards on their tour. Sweet deal!Elsewhere, you'll hear dreamy electronic-psych tracks from Washed Out, Hype Williams, and Black Moth Super Rainbow, and more chill jams from the likes of Pure X (AWESOME new LP), Seapony, Sic Alps, White Fence, Blouse, and Kelley Stoltz. There's classic tracks from The Kinks and Matching Mole, plus a few more surprises to round things out. Hopefully y'all dig it! There's some of my favorite songs of the year on this thing, so check it out and let me know what you think. Enjoy your summer, folks!Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE to Random Old Records via Apple Podcasts, Google Play, or RSS. If you like the show, please rate it and write a review! You can also go the traditional route and stream or download the new episode below. Come back next month (or so) for another episode of Random Old Records.
