The Gosford Glyphs (also referred to as the Kariong Hieroglyphs), are a set of around 300 rock carvings that are associated with many conflicting and intriguing stories of origin. Situated within Brisbane Waters National Park, on the New South Wales Central Coast, Australia. They are nestled deep within this intriguing landscape, heavily populated with many Indigenous sacred sites, such as The Grandmother Tree, significant landmarks and rock carvings. The Hieroglyphs have caught the attention of many locals - and international people alike. Having never visited this site before, Shannon and Laura thought it was time to put on their walking shoes, play dodge the mozzie (and snake), and get exploring! This episode explores theories that both support and debunk the purported authenticity of the hieroglyphs, and of course Shannon and Laura each weigh in and offer their own thoughts. We want to tell you about this reaching, since it concerns the fetishization of our own people, those of the Nord, relativity speaking an insignificant number of people who are in numbers less than the inhabitants of  New York, certainly less than the population of Chongqing. So come with us again as we tell you how we were made to believe in made up people like the "Scythians", the barbarians of 80s Kurgan blockbusters. And how the proud working people of India were ravaged to die on the plantations of the Brits while they took their ancient texts.

Thom is a 5th generation of the west. After spending 9 years in the US Navy, the majority of which was as a Missile Technician aboard a Polaris Submarine, Thom was discharged while living on Washington's Olympic Peninsula. He began college in Port Angeles, WA and finished his degree in Logging Engineering at the University of Washington in Seattle. During this time, he owned and operated a small logging company on the North and West ends of the Peninsula. It was sightings at this time that fanned the flames of interest that were kindled by the Jerry Crew Incident in N. California in 1958 and eventually led to his current work. Being a mainstay in the Sasquatch Community, Thom's findings have shaped current thoughts on Sasquatch and he has mentored many researchers in this field. From an online glyphs database to a teaching aid to a set of historical board games, Maya Scripta is transforming the way people in Guatemala and abroad interact with Maya hieroglyphic writing. In this episode we talk with epigrapher and linguist Rubén Morales Forte, a Mayanist scholar co-leading the Maya Scripta project. The project formed the topic of his Master's thesis at Tulane University and stemmed from his licenciatura (undergraduate degree) studies at Universidad del Valle Guatemala. Rubén Morales Forte was born and raised in Guatemala, where he did his undergraduate in Archaeology. He then did an MA in Latin American Studies and is currently enrolled as a Ph.D. Student in Anthropology, both at Tulane University. His main interests are the integral study of ancient and modern Maya culture, the implementation of community-engaged scholarship, and other public outreach methodologies such as gamification. When he is not working on this, he loves to do and watch sports, especially riding his bike and exploring nature.

This week we have an impromptu episode, I had a gap in the schedule so I sat down unsupervised and went through a few things... I dig into some of the process I'm currently going through and then into some of Mohamed's new work on the Kariong Glyphs and I finish with the most popular article I've ever had on the page... It's about a piece of oopart that is Mysterious Stone Egg found at Lake Winnipesauke in 1872. As with all oopart it's origins and who made it are a mystery however that's why I like the subject, it throws monkey wrenches into all sorts of theories which is why it's ignored... Haven't done a solocast in a while and it was cool to do, enjoy.

In the third episode in this series we again speak with Ash Eliza Smith on their project called “Flyover Fictions,” that pairs scientists with artists to create digital books. For the second half of the episode, Professor Kyle Langvardt sits down with one of these pairs, Joshua Herr and Yasaman Sheri , whose digital project is titled, “Desert Skin & Microbial Glyphs.” This is the final episode in the series that will explore the digital books in the Flyover research platform. Yasaman Sheri is Designer & Director investigating the creative inquiry of technology and biology. Her research explores interfaces of sensing, perception and aesthetics of simulation. She is an advocate for diversity in technology and builds platforms and tools that support artistic practice in Life Sciences.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1905, artist Loïs Mailou Jones's career spanned much of the 20th Century as both a painter and a teacher of generations of Black artists at Howard University. Jones faced racial discrimination in the US throughout much of her long life, and found refuge and inspiration in the Harlem Renaissance Movement and in the expatriate community of Black artists in Paris. Her 1953 marriage to Haitian artist Louis Vergniaud Pierre-Noel, and later research trips to Africa further influenced her work. Her many important paintings include The Ascent of Ethiopia (1932); Les Fétiches (1938); Self-Portrait (1940); Mob Victim (Meditation) (1944); Jardin du Luxembourg (1948); Jeune Fille Française (1951); Ode to Kinshasa (1972); Ubi Girl from Tai Region (1972); Suriname (1982); and Glyphs (1985). Joining me to help us learn more about Loïs Mailou Jones is writer Jennifer Higgie, author of the new book, The Mirror and the Palette: Rebellion, Revolution, and Resilience: Five Hundred Years of Women's Self Portraits.
