Native Texan Danny Lee Blackwell makes music under the moniker Night Beats, and has explored the connective tissue between myriad genres. “Behind The Green Door” is a song Blackwell initially recorded as a lone star instrumental and you can hear it in the pacing and rhythm. The lyrics, which came as the cherry on top at the very end of the process, are drawn from unwavering love and transcendence.
Danny Lee Blackwell has been performing under the moniker Night Beats since 2009, but there's an argument that he could just as well be called “The Distiller.” Night Beats has a reputation for concocting. Blackwell can make a country song sound like a trip through the desert with Hunter S. Thompson. He can turn a […] The post Night Beats: “Behind the Green Door” appeared first on KUT & KUTX Studios -- Podcasts.

Chasing off scorpions, evolving into something else, and studying time. Danny Lee Blackwell (Night Beats, Abraxas) “Night Beats is the brain-child of Native Texan Danny Lee Blackwell. The soundtrack of a generation, the band's R&B inspired Western Psychedelic sound is a reckoning, a shoot-out at dawn, the ear-splitting peel-out that leaves nothing but a cloud of red dust in its wake. Through the years Night Beats has garnered a reputation as one of the finest purveyors of contemporary rock'n'roll around. They've clocked up critical acclaim, toured around the world and shared the stage with the likes of Ty Segall, Thee Oh Sees, The Black Angels, Roky Erickson and The Jesus and Mary Chain, among many others.” Excerpt from https://thenightbeats.us/pages/info Night Beats: Bandcamp: https://nightbeats.bandcamp.com/music Instagram: @thenightsbeats Website: https://thenightbeats.us Merch: https://nightbeats.bandcamp.com/merch Abraxas: Bandcamp: https://abraxasintl.bandcamp.com/album/monte-carlo Instagram: @abraxasintl Merch: https://abraxasintl.bandcamp.com/merch Records: https://suicide-squeeze.myshopify.com/products/abraxas-monte-carlo The Vineyard: Instagram: @thevineyardpodcast Website: https://www.thevineyardpodcast.com Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5Ndle3K... Jay is taking us back to the mall, it's time for another Hot Topical! This week we discuss “Rich Men North of Richmond” by Oliver Anthony. Initially recorded on his phone at his home in Virginia, the YouTube video garnered more than 9 million views on YouTube in its first 5 days. Rooted in the deep frustrations of the working man that have been hurting the past few years, the song has immediately became an anthem for millions of Americans. The song addresses inflation, taxes, and welfare, which has resulted in a Right/Left that's all too familiar. Today's guest makes me wish I had a middle name…or two. But it's OK. He gave me one of his. It's Danny Lee Blackwell of Night Beats. I've wanted to have Danny for quite a while. So I have to thank our mutual friend Paula. Without her, this episode would probably not have happened. Danny and I soon discover that we have another mutual friend, Clyde Mays. And he keeps popping up when you least expect it. We open the show with a cameo by Sam Cooke's Night Beats album and my dogs, Albert and Hammond. Danny grew up in Texas and talks about his unusual influences like Indian classical music and his brother's influence on his musical taste. He started off playing drums just to get into bands. That led him to playing out by the age of fifteen. But he had serious stage fright. But that anxiety helped reaffirm that this was his calling. Danny left Texas for Seattle because he loved everything about the city. Plus his sister was there. That's where he started Night Beats. Danny talks about being open to magic in the studio and keeping things as raw as possible. He's worked with a lot of great musicians, including Robert Levon Been of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, which is how I became familiar with him. Danny discusses how they met and how important Rob has been to him and the band. The sound of Night Beats is always evolving and that is evident in the album Rajan, and it is something special. I think part of that is because Danny is not a gearhead, but he's a collector. He's willing to experiment and seek out unusual sounds. Rajan is out on Suicide Squeeze and Fuzz Club Records. Go get it. I'm not asking! And follow Danny @thenightbeats on Instagram & Twitter. Night Beats should be hitting the road soon so keep an eye out for that. Danny "Lee Blackwell" Rajan Billingsley is a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter and founding member of Night Beats. His is, alongside Carolina Faruolo, one half of the Tropicalia infused psych rock band Abraxas and also a co-collaborator in the UFO Club with Christian Bland from The Black Angels. Rajan, the newest release from Night Beats, is a rhythmically humid psychedelic odyssey that touches on R&B, Anatolian funk, 60's pop and celebrates hypnosis of dub. In this episode we talk about Danny's parameter less approach to songwriting and the role of "rule breaking". Danny shares his point of view of "world rock" as a kid growing up in Dallas and why the young Danny found himself as a failed gatekeeper of cultural traditions. We learn how he uses rhythm to build his various projects and we hear a couple tunes from Rajan. This episode supported by Native Instruments, iZotope, and Plugin Alliance. this weekend's Austin Psych Fest is nearly upon us and while it is tempting to weigh in on such important subjects like “do you have to remove your floppy hat before going thru the metal detectors?” and “how do the Night Beats still exist”, I'll instead publicly state (not for the first time) that I am unprepared to tell the story about the time I was physically ejected from a Black Rebel Motorcycle club show in Las Vegas for heckling the band. Simply put, I am saving this sage for my own book, a tome which will solely concern the events and circumstances surrounding my physical ejection from a Black Rebel Motorcycle club show in Las Vegas for heckling the band. I realize some of you probably think this is a rather flimsy premise for a book that might be as long as 600 pages, but if Mike Pompeo can get away with (however long his stupid book is) blathering on about his weight loss secrets and his boner for Israel, I'm pretty sure I've got him (and everyone else) beat.
Rendimos homenaje a The Sonics, banda arquetípica del garaje punk de los años 60 y titanes de la escena del Pacific Northwest. The Jungle - Auburn Basketball Podcast with Matt Donaldson and Jackson Garrett
It was a rough night offensively, but Auburn actually shot better than USF from the field, three point line, and free throw line - which speaks to the backbone of this team so far...their defense. The Tigers overcame a 9 point halftime deficit to move to 2-0 on the season. Wendell Green Jr led the way in scoring with 20 points, but Allen Flanigan was our MVP tonight. He came off the bench and scored 18 points, including three huge three pointers. Auburn returns to the court against Winthrop on November 15.
Abraxas is a psych/rock/tropicalia duo of Uruguayan-born/UK-based Carolina Faruolo (ex-Los Bitchos) and Danny Lee Blackwell (Night Beats). They're releasing their debut LP Monte Carlo on October 28 on Seattle-based label Suicide Squeeze. In this episode Joe catches up with Danny on the road in France with his band Night Beats and Carolina at her home in Manchester. Danny and Carolina share the process of making the Monte Carlo, and how ease and telepathy translated directly to the final recording. They also discuss how the diverse mixture of influences, the name Abraxas and record title Monte Carlo melded over long distances to make a humid, lush and dreamy listening experience. We hear how the video functioned as their first gig and we hear a couple brand new tunes. https://abraxasintl.bandcamp.com/album/monte-carlohttps://suicidesqueeze.net/2022/09/abraxas-release-new-single-video-manana/https://suicidesqueeze.net/https://lnk.to/AMC Tour Stories is sponsored by Izotope. Night Beats - "New Day" from the 2021 album Outlaw R&B on Fuzz Club. Danny Lee Blackwell — who records as Night Beats — returns June 4th with his fifth album, Outlaw R&B, an album he says "is music for the borderless, the free, the outcasts and the forgotten." He continues in his press release, "The outlaw is the runner. Those whose minds aren't sold by perfect pitch and clean fingernails. Through this medium you can escape the confines of mental feudalism and bask in the euphoric glow of psychedelic R&B." He describes today's Song of the Day as his "postcard from purgatory," adding, "Upon going into lockdown I holed myself up with Akira Kurosawa movies and canned goods. This is the result of sleepless nights while hearing the world crumble outside my window. I sing of desperation and loss, while grinning in the face of an uncertain future." The measles outbreak continues to grow as new cases are identified. According to the city health department, there have been 466 confirmed cases of measles in Brooklyn and Queens since September, and New York is a major contributor to the nationwide total of 764 cases, the highest number in 25 years. Within the city, Orthodox Jewish communities are hardest hit due to a combination of unvaccinated individuals and travelers returning from Israel, where there has been an outbreak of measles since last year. In the city health department data, Williamsburg has the highest total number of cases, at 379, and has added 31 new cases just in the previous week. The city has also carried through with restrictions outlined in an official health department declaration from last month, closing multiple schools and citing more than 80 individuals for failing to show proof of vaccination or to obtain a new vaccination. Measles is a highly contagious disease that is spread through the air as sick individuals cough or sneeze. The measles vaccination is included in MMR shots, standing for measles, mumps, and rubella, that contain a specially-weakened form of the virus that trains the body's immune system on how to defend against that virus in the future. For information on where to obtain a measles vaccination, call 311 or view information from the Department of Health at nyc.gov/doh. 142 years ago on May 8, 1877 — The first Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is held in Manhattan 170 years ago on May 10, 1849 — A rivalry between Shakespearean actors fuels the Astor Place Riot at the Astor Opera House 136 years ago on May 12, 1883 — The Brooklyn Grays hold their first baseball game 116 years ago on May 15, 1903 — New York becomes the first state to require vehicle registration numbers 78 years ago on May 15, 1941 — Joe DiMaggio begins what would become his famous 56-game hitting streak City data on DSNY salt usage: In the DSNY data, storms are loosely grouped into numbered storms when road clearing takes place over multiple days. From November 2018 to March 2019, there were eight significant storms that required an average of around 41,000 tons of salt per storm, for a season total of 329,849 tons. A deadly fire at the Frederick E. Samuel Apartments in Harlem claimed the lives of four children and two adults in the early-morning hours of May 8th. In what appears to have been an unfortunate accident, fire marshals found the cause to have been an unattended stove that was left lit. It was unknown whether the stove was being used for cooking, to heat the apartment, or if it was left lit for religious reasons, as was the case in a similar overnight fire in Midwood, Brooklyn in 2015 that killed seven children. Speaking to PIX11, an FDNY source said that the smoke alarm was found disconnected, which could explain why the family was not alerted by the alarm, which was inspected just five months earlier. 42 years ago on May 16, 1977 — A New York Airways helicopter crashes while loading passengers from atop the Pan Am building Planetary Defense Conference in College Park, Maryland simulates a hypothetical asteroid impact on ol' New York City Manhattanhenge Photography Tips and Viewing Locations A Great Big City has been running a 24-hour newsfeed since 2010, but the AGBC News podcast is just getting started, and we need your support.
