“I'm just trying to get myself together” cantano i Beach Fossils nella canzone che apre la scaletta di questa sera, e potrebbe quasi essere un'esaustiva autobiografia in cui riconoscersi.

On episode 21 of DWTN, I'm joined by Dustin, Jack, and Tommy of Beach Fossils who have just released their highly anticipated, 4th full-length album: Bunny. We dig into the songwriting and musical direction for Bunny, and discuss the balance between evolving as a band and honouring your sonic roots. We talk about Beach Fossils' origin story: uploading singles to MySpace, mailing personalized demos in brown paper bags to record labels, and playing the legendary DIY venue 285 Kent - which was infamously taken over by VICE in 2014. We also talk about their label Bayonet Records, the challenges that artists and bands face (specifically touring), Gregg Araki, their appreciation for Times Square, NY in the summer, and much more. Make sure to follow Beach Fossils on Instagram, and listen to Bunny available on all streaming platforms.

Beach Vacation - "Lay Low" a 2023 single on Z Tapes. Take some time off with the dreamy vibes of Beach Vacation. The latest single from this Seattle-based pop project of songwriter Tabor Rupp will call to mind bands on the Captured Tracks Records roster like Beach Fossils and Wild Nothing. Rupp told the music blog kid with a vinyl that today's Song of the Day is about “wanting to leave behind everything – specifically the things and people that are stressors and forget about them forever.” Sounds like a vacation to me. The album-making process has always been somewhat contradictory for Beach Fossils. Front man Dustin Payseur has never suffered from lack of inspiration, with hundreds of unreleased songs to his name, but releasing an album has always been about getting things just right. The Brooklyn-based band has released three LPs of original songs in its dozen or so year existence. The strange and seemingly unending nature of the pandemic, meanwhile, presented the opportunity to do something altogether different. Last year, the band released The Other Side of Life. The record finds the group revisiting eight older tracks. It's a kind of greatest hits, re-envisioned as piano ballads, played by early member, Tommy Gardner. It's fascinating and enjoyable experiment, as well as an exercise in what it means to strip a song down and build it back in a dramatically different form.
As broadcast March 4, 2022 with plenty of brogue of your Scotscast experience. Tonight we welcomed the Glasgow-based DIY artist Community Swimming Pool to the show to talk about some of his favorite tunes and inspirational artists while he rocked an hour two playlist of his own concoction. We riffed on disappointing our fathers with our musical tastes, how inspiring Prince is to the artist since he's also a "wee man," and why he chose the tunes he did. Great cuts for the full two hours from Talking Heads, Hovvdy, Turnover, and Her's amongst other notable entries in the playlist. Do check Community Swimming Pool's debut album from last year "Gloom/Bloom" if you'd like to hear more.#feelthegravityTracklisting:Part I (00:00)Talk Talk – It's My LifeMethyl Ethel – Trip The MainsBeach Fossils - AdversityThe Cars – Moving In StereoDIIV – Bent (Roi's Song)Helena Deland – Truth Nugget Part II (34:57)Community Swimming Pool – Be Your ManCommunity Swimming Pool – I Don't Wanna Lose YouToro y Moi – BlessaLittle Dragon – Another LoverThe Avalanches – If I Was A Folk StarWild Nothing – Midnight SongSeapony – Late Summer Part III (61:56)Community Swimming Pool – i don't know Yazoo – Only YouBeach Fossils – What A PleasurePrince – I Wanna Be Your LoverPorches – I Miss ThatHovvdy – Around Again Part IV (94:00)Community Swimming Pool – another heartThe Blue Nile – Tinseltown In The RainTalking Heads – This Must Be The Place (Naïve Melody)Her's – What Once WasTurnover – New ScreamThe Cars - Drive
This week we are doing a special listener suggestion episode, from Kyle Brown, who releases music under the name "Kite Vendor"."DIIV" are a four piece indie rock band based out of Brooklyn, New York. The project originally started after lead songwriter and frontman Zachary Cole Smith left the band "Beach Fossils", for whom he was playing drums for. Cole started by writing and demoing material in his bedroom, not knowing if anything would come of what he was creating, or if anyone would ever hear it. However as his confidence grew he decided to share his new material with the label managers at Captured Tracks, the label Beach Fossils were signed with. The label liked what they heard and decided to put out a couple singles. Off the success of these singles Captured Tracks decided to put out Cole's full-length debut album "Oshin" in 2012.To hear the full story, and a selection of tracks, check out this weeks episode of R2G.To learn the full story, check out this week's episode of Roots to Grooves!"Roots to Grooves" is a production of SIGNL.https://www.signlradio.comhttps://www.instagram.com/signlradiohttps://www.twitter.com/signlradiohttps://www.facebook.com/signlradiohttps://www.mixcloud.com/signlhttps://open.spotify.com/user/96mhz6qfjoztxbl2dpm0uj903?si=aAZpsoEnRAKdx85kr1QWhg
Tracklist: Vacation Twelve Roses The Horse Wide Awake Youth (The Other Side Of Life Piano Version)
We learned about a new subgenre while researching this record: "twee pop". The term is used to describe music that is simple and innocent, with boy-girl harmonies, lyrical themes about love, and catchy melodies. It's the perfect way to describe Beach Fossil's debut 2010 record. Written, recorded, and produced by frontman and Beach Fossil's founder Dustin Payseur while longing to escape his new home in New York, the album is the perfect antidote to anyone longing for summer, the innocence of youth, and a desire to escape the day-to-day grind of life.Tracklist: Vacation Twelve Roses The Horse Wide Awake Youth (The Other Side Of Life Piano Version) Visit tiestatea.com and use promo code NOFILLER15 for 15% off at checkout.
