New Year 2017 MMA ROUND-Up SPECIAL FLASHBACK 2017: Picture this wild ride if you were not there it was one hell of a year to be an MMA journalist traveling to events like the infamous New York Brooklyn Barclay Center where I rolled up and made a studio inside of the Starbucks conducting a live podcast where tons of MMA fans and customers surrounded me to see what was going on. Yet Ariel Helwani walks in an hour later and no one even notices? But I did especially his nasty-looking shoes! This was a significant event if I remember it was UFC 209 where Khabib was supposed to fight Tony Ferguson once again but was scraped and replaced with Al Iaquinta in Tony's place! THAT WASN'T THE TAKE AWAY if you remember.... nope I was there for the DOLLY INCIDENT AND CONOR BEING ARRESTED! I even got to take a replica photo right after he was taken out of the police station in handcuffs. Me and Chris from the MMA Holes (AKA MOS AND JESSY) I'll share the photo on my Twitter for everyone in this thread for the podcast link @XEVilEddieX . Also in 2017, we saw Bisping as our Middleweight Champion in the UFC when I told everyone he would knock Rockhold out...... I was told to try a different profession but now we know how that one ended don't we? The hype for Cris Cyborg inside the UFC was very much alive and terrifying as she was heading into a fight with who was also crowned one of the most dangerous women on the planet at the time in Holly Holm for UFC 219 to close out the year! OH AND DID I FORGET TO MENTION covering the Mayweather vs McGregor Presser that was also held at the BARCLAY Center in Brooklyn New York? Yeah, the one where Conor McGregor compared himself to a black man while wearing a giant white fur coat and throwing dollar bills everywhere and telling Mayweather and his two goons who looked like the dumb monsters from TMNT, to pick it up like "dancers". That PPV passed 4.3 million buys making it the biggest PPV of all time! We also saw Max Holloway defeat Showtime Pettis at Featherweight to become the INTERIM Featherweight Champion when the UFC Stripped McGregor for not immediately signing an agreement to defend the featherweight title making Jose Aldo the Champion Once Again until Max took that fight at UFC 212 where Max finished Aldo and then even went on to do a rematch at UFC 218 and beat him once again. This was also the year that Colby Covington became the loudmouth you all know him as today. When I interviewed him he was actually very nice and there was NO gimmick like there was in 2017 to now! In fact, he became one of the most hated men in the sport and a real target in Brazil when he lit the entire country on fire with just a few words I will not repeat on this show. I HOPE YOU GUYS ENJOY THESE FLASHBACK Episodes I'm uploading 1x a week for you and really hope you all are checking out the new show Combat Deviants. I promise there are about to be 2 shows that ill be filming per week come 2023! The plans are Monday nights at 7:06 pm (6:66pm ET) I'll be going live on the Pure EVil MMA Youtube channel ( Youtube.com/PureEVilMMA) for a recap of the fights and to deliver the TOP 3 HEADLINES OF THE WEEK and any announcements like fights that have been signed or tweets of the week etc. Then on Thursdays ill be doing specials that will be fan-interactive like reaction videos/watch along with MMA-related content or older fights or even event and movies with fighters in them. Then Fridays at 9 pm ET Combat Deviants go live for BellyUpSports.Com and we always have 2 well-known guests joining us every single week from the UFC and BKFC! We are only on episode 12 as of tonight so get ready for an insane 2023 where you can become a part of the weekly Deviant Tribe by leaving comments that appear on screen for everyone to see! Coming out of my residential stay worse off than before, I resolved to white knuckle it over the next few months while I got accustomed to new doctors and new … wines.
What if there is not enough for me? This is one of the most primal fears of humanity. In response to fear we have the tendency to store, hoard, and hold onto resources with a death grip. It is an act of grace that Jesus lovingly teaches and shows us the power of loosening and giving.

So often, our response to difficult and divisive conversations falls one of two ways — either we avoid the messiness and complexity and withdraw, or, we go in with clenched fists, ready for a fight. But as you'll hear from my guests this week, there is a third way. John Siebeling and Wayne Francis are two pastors and friends that lead thriving churches in two very different cities who teamed up to give us a perspective of this “third way” in the book they co-authored, God and Race: A guide for moving beyond black fists and white knuckles. John, along with his wife Leslie, founded The Life Church, which is based in Memphis, Tennessee. Wayne founded Authentic Church in New York, and in 2020, Authentic Church merged with The Life Church. And, Wayne is Black, and John is White. In their book and in our conversation today, Wayne and John advocate for open-handed conversation on difficult and nuanced topics, in this case specifically about race, racism, and the Church's role in the conversation. The third way that Wayne and John and I are asking us to enter into means we must begin to see problems from others perspectives, we must stop seeking perfection over progress, and we must understand that our influence starts with our ears before we ever utter a word. You can find out more about Wayne and John's book at https://godandrace.com, and you can listen to their podcast, Leadership in Black and White, at https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/leadership-in-black-and-white/id1529169100.

“100x” and “White Knuckles,” which Sara wrote about their past relationship struggles as sisters. “I didn't necessarily set out to write those songs about Tegan," Sara explains. "I wanted to write about the struggles that I had in my early 20s; my desire to be independent and have my own life and the trajectory of figuring out who I was without Tegan. I am sort of seeing that as a very different era right now in our band and also in my own life. It is just interesting to go back and think about how far we came and how bad and challenging things were, but how much better they are now.” --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/you-betterknow4/message

https://godandrace.com : For years, Pastors John Siebeling and Wayne Francis have led thriving congregations that are the embodiment of diversity; Siebeling in Memphis and Francis in New York City. Many churches and leaders have sought their counsel, hoping to emulate their success. At the height of the so-called "Black Lives Matter" (Movement For Black Lives) protests in Summer 2020, they pooled their insights and experiences to help others facilitate conversations about racism. The guide they developed is the basis of God and Race. Siebeling and Francis examine the Black-White tension from both perspectives. When it comes to loving others, we sometimes have to stretch ourselves to honor the commands that Jesus has about love. How can I love someone who is so different from me, we might ask ourselves? How can I love someone who I don't understand and who doesn't understand me? In our daily lives, it's natural for us to make bonds with people who are like us, who have our same values, who believe like us. It can be tempting to live in that bubble and *think* that we are practicing love. But Jesus calls us to do more. He asks that “all we do be done in love.” If we can remember that before each conversation we have, before each decision we make in regards to others, as we measure the words and actions that we speak and do each day, we'll find that a life lived in love will bring healing, reconciliation and benefits to us that we could have never imagined. Our guests this week are deliberate about taking a posture of love toward what they do in the world. Tauren Wells is a musician, songwriter and speaker who encourages us to recognize God's love in all that we do and say, and pastor and writers John Siebeling and Wayne Francis have purposefully made unconditional love a part of how they welcome people of all kinds into their churches, and now they're building off of that to bring people together to have conversations about love, acceptance, and race. And I don't think that the presence of God is a fun-free zone.” - Tauren Wells “If we're really trying to make our churches diverse and multicultural, it's not just having people in the room that look like the culture we want. It's creating the pieces of fabric that make up those cultures and weaving them into the faith community that we're building.” - Tauren Wells “The key to moving forward beyond some of the racial tension that we've seen is just super open-handed, open-hearted conversations. And when you have an open heart and you have an open hand, you sit down with somebody that's different from you and you get the opportunity to see and hear their heart and their perspective. You grow and you learn.” - John Siebeling “We're not just trying to empower white people to have these conversations. We're empowering black people, people of color, how to have these conversations in a way that's life giving. And it blends us, moves us closer together toward the vision that we see in scripture, which is one nation, one people, one tribe.” - Wayne Francis “We have to keep the condition of the soul right so that even when we're angry, we can communicate in ways that don't blow everything up…canceling people is not the way that we move the conversation forward.” - Wayne Francis “The Bible says, ‘Pray without ceasing.' That means somehow, even in the midst of work and working out and cooking and doing all that we're doing, we are communing with God.” - John Siebeling “Diversity isn't reserved for heaven.” - Wayne Francis ________________________ Enjoy watching these additional videos from Jesus Calling YouTube channel: Audio Playlist: https://bit.ly/2PrbuwH Video Playlist: https://bit.ly/2PsmEkJ What's Good? We have been taught our whole lives to "fake it till you make it," "just do it," "embrace the suck," and "do the thing you don't want to do." Great phrases for a short-term fix. But if we want to really create lasting change in our lives, we have to stop "white-knuckling" our behaviors and create change from our thoughts rather than from sheer will-power. Let's chat today about how to do that.
sent $$$ this week to the Institute for the Development of Human Arts in NYC.idha-nyc.orgThis past week I attended their panel about Decarcerating Care and it was really very good. And I’m excited to continue learning. You can watch the full two hour event and explore all the resources referenced by the panelists on their website.More about the event:As the movement for racial justice gains momentum in the United States, there has been a lot of conversation around how to divest funding from the police and reallocate it to mental health care. Although the notion to replace “cops” with “care” is well-intentioned, psychiatric survivors, their family members, and advocates are well acquainted with the oppressive nature of the mental health system. Too often, both mainstream and progressive group discussions immediately revert to a model of “caring” for “the mentally ill” in hospitals and other confined settings that are functionally no different than the jails and prisons that they propose to replace.IDHA seeks to advance a discussion of alternatives to policing and criminal justice that is rooted in the lived experience of mental health service users and survivors. In this context, it is crucial to center the particular ways in which psychiatry has been used to exert control over Black bodies, not unlike the prison system. From the historically racist roots of diagnosis; to the ways in which the pain of racial oppression is erased or made invisible due to the subjective nature of psychiatric diagnosis; to the significantly higher rates at which Black communities are diagnosed with “serious mental illness,” it’s clear that replacing policing with more mental health care is not the answer.DOWNLOAD RECORDINGsubscribe to the podcast here: http://feeds.feedburner.com/5432fun(intro by omar)houseplants “Bloom In View” HouseplantsMARBLED EYE “DIRT” EP 2Mane “White Knuckles” Alpha Femaletunic “Eye Contact” BossPaddlefish “My Place To Be” RefrigeratorSEED BOMB “Rooftops” Split w/Baby Tony & the TeeniesEnergy Slime “Cool Ship II” New DimensionalHumanly “I’ll never be old” My peak was a molehillEnamel “Parasitic” Complete The LieRipe mangos “Gophers Teeth” Cutting Clear BlueRomantic States “Take My Hand and Run” Take My Hand and Runbelieveh “Tommorrows Vain Imagining” Moon Beam BabySwanning “April Rain” Split w/ MagafloraMegaflora “Lonely” Split w/ SwanningTwelve gardens “lone fir” tape 3Hop Hop “Will We Overcome?” Mondo’s CollectionCONDITIONER “(we’re living in a) fashion void” Suggested UsePale Kids “St. James” Holy MessMadame Headdress “Garden” LipstickKohinoorgasm “War Empire” Split w/ Wizard ApprenticeWizard Apprentice “Keep It Cool” Split w/ Kohinoorgasm

He's got some first hand stories to share about the one and only Ethan Durelle, the underrated and extremely talented post-punk indie outfit from Waco, TX. Ergonomic training is necessary to help reduce work-related upper limb disorders (WRULD) in sonographers. This study provided an ergonomic training session for sonographers, to determine whether a teaching intervention changed the grip force used to hold a transducer. Thirteen practitioners participated and were placed into two groups (intervention group n = 7). Participants were asked to scan the same simulated transabdominal early pregnancy case. An ergometer was used, which enabled all participants to hear the effect of holding the transducer tightly. Their matched grip force was measured before and after the intervention using a dynamometer. The intervention group reviewed videos and photographs taken during the scan to see if this affected the matched grip force further. Study findings showed that the short ergonomic training session with the use of an ergometer significantly reduced the matched grip force applied to a transducer (P < .05) for all participants. The video/photo review did not result in any further significant changes.
In the September/October 2018 JDMS podcast, Associate Editor Kathryn E. Zale and author Gill Harrison discuss her article "Can Teaching Ultrasound Ergonomics to Ultrasound Practitioners Reduce White Knuckles and Transducer Grip Force?" To view this article, click here.

Power of Purity | Helping Men to Honor God with their Sexual Gift
When a man decides to become a man of sexual purity... When a man decides to begin honoring God and his wife with the expression of his sexual gift... When a man embraces a true understanding of "Wife Size Sex"... And determines to only experience his orgasm with his wife... He will inevitably enter a very difficult period of time that lies between the old person he used to be... and the new person he's trying to become. This period of time is often defined by "WHITE KNUCKLES"... as he tries so hard to resist his old habits and patterns that often included porn and masturbation... and hold on to the new commitment of sexual purity that he has made to himself... to God... and to his wife. Virtually every person who has ever sought to overcome an addiction... and every person who has entered a process of recovery...can relate to the concept of "WHITE KNUCKLES"... as they fight to metamorphose from the own cycle that was so unhealthy... to the new cycle that's healthier. "WHITE KNUCKLES" speaks of our desperate attempt to resist the old "me" as I seek to be the new "me". In this session Tony reveals why "WHITE KNUCKLES" typically will fail us... and shares what we can do... to make it through... to true and lasting change... when we feel like we're barely holding on! Romans 7:15-25
Lois Pryce is an author, journalist and travel writer. She speaks about her 3000-mile solo motorcycle ride around Iran, which is the subject of her book, Revolutionary Ride. In 2003 Lois left her job at the BBC in London to ride twenty-thousand miles from Alaska to the tip of South America on a small dirt bike. Her book about this trip, Lois on the Loose, has been published throughout the world. In 2006 she rode the length of Africa, taking in the Sahara, the Congo and Angola, which resulted in her book, Red Tape & White Knuckles. In 2013/14, intrigued by the negative image of Iran and its stormy relationship with her homeland, she made two solo motorcycle tours of the Islamic Republic, discovering the complicated reality of this misunderstood but ultimately fascinating and hospitable country. This is the subject of her new book, Revolutionary Ride. With her husband, adventure film-maker, Austin Vince, she is founder/curator of Adventure Travel Film Festival which occurs annually in the UK and Australia. Recorded live at 5x15 Bristol in March 2017. 5x15 brings together five outstanding individuals to tell of their lives, passions and inspirations. Today's episode is all about something I say often: short term strategies deliver short term results. If you cannot maintain the strategy that delivers the results, you will not sustain the results themselves. Any approach that requires white-knuckled willpower should be a real red flag that you might be working hard for results you won't maintain. http://primalpotential.com/198-white-knuckles-red-flags/ White Knuckles Are Red Flags How many times will you employ a short term strategy that you know you can't sustain? There are so many problems with this approach. If you can't sustain the strategy, you won't sustain the results If you don't know, address or solve the true problems, they'll still be there waiting for you You're creating a negative association with the process You're reinforcing a pattern of quitting or failure and therefore think that's all that lies ahead for you. That's not true. It's your crappy strategy You think change is harder than it actually is. That's representative of your unsustainable approach. The lasting is approach is the approach you enjoy and are able and willing to maintain. If you're looking for a break, an escape or a cheat, it's not the right approach. You're very likely focused on the wrong thing. Does your approach help you address WHY you eat, not just WHAT you eat? Internal development precedes external improvements. If you successfully complete your Whole30 but don't address your pattern of emotional eating, what happens the next time you get emotional? If you do a 21 day detox but do nothing to overcome your all-or-nothing tendencies, don't you think another "nothing" cycle is coming? Then what? Absolutely listen to the full episode to understand how you can overcome this white-knuckle-willpower approach to weight loss! It's not working!

Acceptance of the power of addiction—to substances or to behaviors—is where freedom begins. From that point, our sacred task is self-awareness, discovering embedded emotions and stances that link us to addiction. And then, we move forward with our innate spiritual power to strengthen and create links to life and permanent recovery. Special guest George DuWors, MSW, LICSW, BCD, specializes in relapse prevention. His books White Knuckles and Wishful Thinking, and Getting It: Building Motivation From Relapse, provide a practical, experiential approach connected to 12-Step recovery principles. George is a psychosomatic therapist, author, and trainer focusing on supporting long-term sobriety and relapse prevention. Where are the men that turn the world upside down? Where are the men that take their God at His Word and actually believe? Where are the men who have such a firm grip on the promises of their God that their spiritual knuckles turn bone-white with determination? Where are the men willing to suffer and die that Jesus Christ might gain His rightful due? If such men still stir on this suffering globe, then please, God, now is the time to raise them up.
