In this powerful Spirit Reboot series of Radio Medium, host Laura Lee welcomes therapist, educator, and CPTSD specialist Barb Varcel Smith, founder of Your Steps Counseling, for an insightful conversation on generational trauma, emotional triggers, and conscious parenting. Together they explore why many of our emotional reactions and behavioral patterns originate from unresolved childhood experiences passed quietly through family generations, and how healing those patterns can transform both parents and children. Barb introduces her trauma-informed framework, Purposeful Parenting, built around the LOVE method—Listen, Observe, Validate, and Express—which helps parents regulate emotions, reduce reactive parenting, and create safe emotional environments that foster resilient, emotionally healthy children. This episode dives into trauma recovery, emotional awareness, parenting psychology, and practical tools for breaking harmful cycles shaped by divorce, grief, stress, and unmet emotional needs. Listeners seeking healing, stronger relationships, and mindful parenting strategies will gain empowering insights on how awareness and compassion can reshape family dynamics and build a healthier future for the next generation.

If you've been trying to “fix” yourself for years… this episode might change everything. So much of the emotional wellness space is focused on one thing:Getting rid of what's wrong. The anxiety. The stress. The overthinking. The guilt. The burnout. The trauma. And while support matters, here's what's missing:You cannot build a thriving life by only trying to eliminate what hurts. In this episode, I'm teaching a core concept I walk my private clients through — the emotional teeter-totter — and why balance, not eradication, is the real goal.Because life is 50/50.Your brain is wired to scan for danger. And trying to remove every uncomfortable emotion will keep you stuck in survival mode.Instead, we need to learn how to build the other side.Joy.Pleasure.Excitement.Belonging.Desire.Purpose.When you intentionally build those, everything changes.✨ In This Episode, We Talk About:Why “fixing yourself” can actually make you feel worseHow self-help sometimes overemphasizes what's brokenThe 50/50 nature of emotional life (and why it's normal)How your primitive brain keeps you in survival modeThe emotional teeter-totter analogy that explains everythingWhy eliminating stress isn't the goalHow to build emotional capacity instead of avoidanceThe difference between tolerating emotions and processing themWhy creating joy is a skill (not a luxury)How doing hard, scary things on purpose builds empowermentWhy pleasure, excitement, and fulfillment are your responsibility
In this episode of Groove with Portia, I welcome Nicole for a deeply honest conversation about forgiveness, self-love, and healing after betrayal. Nicole shares her personal journey that began in 2013 after discovering her husband's infidelity and how that moment changed the way she understood forgiveness, trust, and her own voice.Tune in to hear Nicole explain how her search for healing led her through certifications, practices, and personal exploration before she realized that forgiveness was not about excusing someone else's actions. It was about freeing herself. She introduces the Hawaiian forgiveness practice of Ho oponopono and shares how the four phrases I love you, I am sorry, please forgive me, and thank you became tools for self-forgiveness and self-compassion.Learn why forgiveness is not a one-time decision but an ongoing process and how healing often shows up in the body through tears, release, and reflection. We talk about reclaiming your voice after emotional pain, taking small steps toward self-care, and why learning from experiences is more powerful than trying to forget them. This episode is for anyone navigating betrayal, loss of identity, or the long road back to themselves. Nicole also shares how embracing self-forgiveness led her to publicly share her story, build her brand, and begin writing a book on forgiveness that will include a workbook. We close with an invitation to continue the conversation and a reminder that healing and growth are lifelong practices.Connect with Nicole: https://nicoleharvick.com/
Today's conversation is one that touches every single one of us — whether we realize it or not. We're talking about trauma. Not just the big, obvious trauma. Not just what happened to you. But how it lives inside your body… and quietly shapes your health, stress levels, relationships, and even your sense of purpose.Joining us is Diana Bitting, co-founder and CEO of Catbird Health, an AI-powered trauma-informed care platform pioneering an entirely new model for healing. But Diana didn't start here. She spent decades struggling with a chronic inflammatory condition that no doctor could explain. Test after test came back “normal.” She was told it was stress. Or anxiety. Or maybe even “all in her head.”Sound familiar? After trying everything — diets, protocols, medications, functional medicine, and talk therapy — nothing created lasting relief. Until one conversation changed everything. When Diana began exploring trauma science and nervous system healing, her symptoms started to lift. Because here's what she discovered: Trauma doesn't just live in the brain. It lives in the body. And until the nervous system feels safe, true healing can't happen. In this episode, we explore:Why trauma is stored in the nervous systemThe link between inflammation, anxiety, insomnia, and unresolved traumaWhy talk therapy alone may not be enoughThe difference between cognitive healing and body-based healingHow personalized, trauma-informed care is changing the future of medicineWhy every single one of us can benefit from trauma healingThis conversation is grounded in science, but it's also deeply hopeful.Because healing trauma isn't just about resolving the past. It's about unlocking energy, clarity, connection, and purpose in the present. If you've ever felt like something was “off” in your body — even when everything looked fine on paper — this episode may connect some powerful dots. You are not broken. Your body has been protecting you. And healing is possible.MORE FROM DIANA BITTINGCheck out Catbird and start your person healing journey. Learn more about Diana. Lunar New Year isn't just a date on the calendar—it's an energetic turning point.Christie Jordan, intuitive healer, acupuncturist, teacher, and founder of Source Healing, joins us to explore the deeper meaning behind Lunar New Year and why this ancient tradition is still so relevant to our lives today.Christie breaks down what Lunar New Year truly represents through the lens of the moon cycle and the natural rhythms of the Earth. This conversation is equal parts grounding and energizing, offering simple ways to integrate Eastern wisdom into your everyday life—no overwhelm, no perfection required. If you're craving a fresh start that feels real (not forced), this episode is for you.WHAT YOU'LL LEARN IN THIS EPISODEWhat Lunar New Year actually represents—and why it follows the moon, not the calendarWhy Lunar New Year is known as a Spring Festival, even when it falls in winterHow ancient agrarian wisdom connects to hope, renewal, and new growthWhat Fire Horse energy means and how to work with it consciouslyHow qi (life force energy) begins moving long before we can “see” changeSimple rituals and reflections to align with the lunar cycleHow to integrate Eastern traditions into modern life in a grounded, authentic wayKEY TAKEAWAYLunar New Year reminds us that change begins beneath the surface. In Part 1 of this conversation, Jamie sits down with nurse practitioner Jaclyn Taylor to pull wellness out of the “buzzword” category and into real life. They talk about why so many people feel stuck—fatigued, anxious, gaining weight, losing motivation—and why the first step isn't a perfect plan…it's being listened to. Jaclyn breaks down what the Your Health Wellness Program offers, how bioidentical hormone replacement therapy works, and why “normal labs” don't always mean you're actually okay. This episode is for anyone who's been powering through, silently struggling, or wondering if feeling better is still possible. www.YourHealth.Org
In this episode of Mini Miracles From Minor Moments, I spend time reflecting on curiosity, attention, and the quiet meaning hidden in ordinary days. As we grow older, it can feel easy to rush through routines, conversations, and responsibilities without noticing what they offer us. I share personal stories that gently invite us to slow our pace and stay open to questions, wonder, and prayer. These small pauses often help us see that even brief moments can guide us forward with peace and clarity. Curiosity, Routine, and Attention Curiosity keeps the mind awake at any stage of life, yet many of us stop asking questions once we believe we already know enough. I talk about how daily tasks like laundry, walking the dog, or sharing a short conversation can regain meaning when we give them our full attention. Ordinary work carries dignity when we allow ourselves to notice it instead of rushing past it. Slowing down gives space for reflection, gratitude, and deeper awareness of what truly matters. Temporary Moments That Shape a Life So much of life is temporary, from holding a baby to managing responsibility for someone we love. I reflect on caregiving, memory, and the importance of honoring each season without clinging too tightly to it. Looking back through old journals and keepsakes reminds me how past hopes still speak to the present. These reflections invite us to value what we have now, reconnect with unfinished dreams, and stay present with the people and moments placed before us. Episode Highlights Curiosity as a lifelong skill that keeps the mind engaged Finding dignity and meaning in everyday chores and routines Slowing down to notice what brings peace and clarity The value of small conversations and human connection Reflections on caregiving, responsibility, and temporary roles Revisiting journals and saved memories for renewed insight If today's reflection speaks to you, I invite you to reach out, share your thoughts, or connect with our ongoing community offerings. #MiniMiraclesFromMinorMoments, #LindaGulloPodcast, #FindingMeaning, #LifeTransitions, #EmotionalWellness, #Clarity, #AgingGracefully

Have you ever felt discouraged by what you see in fitness posts online? A scroll through your feed can quickly stir up body image issues, especially when before and after photos are used as proof of success. But what these photos often leave out is important context like effort, mindset, and overall well-being. In this episode, we take a closer look at the impact of transformation marketing and how it shapes our ideas about health. You'll hear why these visuals often reflect diet culture and social media influence, instead of reflecting what really matters. They rarely capture non-scale victories or signs of emotional wellness and self-worth that are harder to see, but more meaningful over time. We talk about how constant exposure to “ideal” bodies can trigger weight stigma and lead to harmful patterns like weight cycling. These messages can pull you away from intuitive eating, movement that feels good, and even connection with your body. The pressure to chase visual results can chip away at confidence and joy in the process. Instead of relying on narrow ideas of success, we explore what real progress looks like in everyday life. Think strength gains, reduced pain, improved energy, or simply feeling calm in your body. These shifts reflect true health, even if they never show up in a photo. You'll also learn how to step back from harmful messages by doing a digital detox. Curating your feed can create more space for things that align with health at every size, mental health in fitness, and body neutrality, so you can start defining wellness in your own terms. In this episode, you'll learn: What before and after photos miss about your actual progress Why body image messaging in fitness often leads to emotional stress How intuitive eating and body neutrality shift the focus toward self-worth The connection between transformation marketing and weight stigma Steps to reclaim your feed and prioritize mental health in fitness If this episode helped you see fitness culture in a new light, share it with a friend who's ready to ditch the pressure and define progress on their own terms. Send us a textWhat happens when we stop performing for the world—and finally tell the truth about who we are?In this deeply moving and soul-stirring episode of Self Reflection Podcast, hosted by Lira Ndifon, we sit down with artist, filmmaker, and storyteller Bryce Savoy for a raw, honest, and necessary conversation about mental health, grief, fatherhood, identity, and the power of community. This episode doesn't just ask you to listen—it invites you to reflect, feel, and heal. From growing up in Oakland to building a creative life in Los Angeles, Bryce opens up about the importance of male mentorship, emotional validation, and having a present father figure—especially for Black men navigating manhood in a society that often demands silence over vulnerability. Together, Lira and Bryce explore how the absence of emotional nurturing creates invisible wounds, and why healing begins when we allow ourselves to name them.At the heart of this conversation is Bryce's documentary Big Bright Sun, a powerful coming-of-age story that captures the dual reality of losing his father and becoming a father in the same year. Bryce reflects on grief, legacy, and transformation—revealing how loss can become a catalyst for purpose when we choose to confront it rather than suppress it. His story is a reminder that pain does not disqualify us from growth—it often initiates it.The episode also dives into creativity as a form of survival and resistance. From navigating the music and film industries to founding Neighborhood Diamonds, Bryce speaks on staying authentic in spaces driven by competition, ego, and material success. This conversation challenges the idea that worth is measured by numbers, status, or visibility—and instead reframes success as alignment, integrity, and community impact.More than anything, this episode is a meditation on being yourself in a world that profits from conformity. It reminds us that our lived experiences are enough, our stories matter, and healing is not meant to be done alone. Whether you are grieving, rebuilding, questioning your identity, or simply seeking peace—this conversation meets you where you are. This is not just an episode—it's an invitation to slow down, look inward, and remember who you are.If this conversation resonated with you, don't keep it to yourself.Like, follow, and subscribe to Self Reflection Podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube, and all major streaming platforms. Six months into our journey through the Yamas and Niyamas, we pause to reflect on what it really means to let go. Not just of our stuff, but of expectations, busyness, self-judgment, and the heaviness we carry inside. In this episode, we finish our exploration of Aparigraha (nonpossessiveness) and begin our inward turn into the Niyamas, starting with Saucha, the practice of purity. But purity here isn't about perfection, appearances, or having it all together. It's about lightening our load, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, so we can meet each moment with clarity, compassion, and presence.Join us as we talk about what it might look like to stop “planning ourselves” and instead love ourselves as we are. This is an invitation to slow down, to be present, and to become a safer place for ourselves and for others. If you're feeling weighed down, scattered, or quietly exhausted by trying to do it all right, this conversation offers a gentler way forward - one rooted in presence, peace, and learning to let joy linger.Show Notes:The Yamas & Niyamas: Exploring Yoga's Ethical Practice by Deborah Adele

Together, they explore the roles of mental health, grief, support systems, and self-compassion in creating a life that feels aligned and sustainable. This episode is a reminder that rewriting your story isn't about perfection — it's about courage, clarity, and the willingness to let go of what no longer serves you. This week on Classy & Sassy, I'm celebrating my 55th birthday by reflecting on the things I know for sure in this season of life.In this birthday special, I talk honestly about what age has actually taught me - from choosing peace over being liked, to letting go of the myth that one day you magically stop caring what people think. We unpack what it really means to care less, trust yourself more, and grow without reinventing who you are.I also share how reading has become a form of gentle growth for me - including finishing 101 books in 2025, setting a goal of 100 again for 2026, and stretching myself into new genres as a way to expand without pressure. This episode is a quiet, reflective reminder that clarity doesn't come from age alone - it comes from self-trust, discernment, and choosing peace on purpose.Send us a text

Jenn explores how the power of "and" might transform not just our relationship with food, but our entire approach to health, relationships, and even conflicting ideas. Cultivating H.E.R. Space: Uplifting Conversations for the Black Woman
Hey lady! You know we’re all about our gentle growth and continuous improvement over here so we’re excited to share an episode that will help grow your toolkit for whatever life may bring your way.As we heal and process it’s common to notice where your childhood has yet again shaped your behavior and caused patterns that at one time seemed normal but now no longer serve you. Growing up in environments where our caregivers were doing the best they could with the tools they had means that we may not have always had the space to be your full self. And, if you grew up in a Black household it’s entirely plausible to not be allowed to feel your feelings and bury them instead. But, we’re grown now and you are not only allowed to feel your feelings but you are encouraged to and there are frameworks that can help. This week, Dr. Dom and Terri present the RULER method, a powerful tool that can help you make your way through difficult and complex emotions so that you can remain in your sovereignty and stand in your integrity. This five-step method can help you meet life as it comes, which will help you loosen the grip of needing to control life. Understanding your emotions offers you more choice in your experience, which can lead to feeling more stable, grounded and having increased capacity to feel the richness and beauty that life has to offer you. Using RULER in Real Life· Recognizing: “How do I know what I’m feeling? What signals does my body send?”· Understanding: “Where did this emotion come from? Is it layered with past wounds?”· Labeling: Talk about the power of language—using words like “disrespected” vs “angry.”· Expressing: “Who is safe to share this with? What’s an empowered way to show this?”· Regulating: Tools and tips (breathwork, journaling, therapy, movement, prayer, etc.)Quote of the Day:“If you don’t know what you’re feeling, it’s hard to know what to do with your feelings.” – Dr. Marc Brackett Goal Mapping Starter GuideCultivating H.E.R. Employee Engagement on the Brink In 2024, the globalpercentage of engaged employees fell from 23% to 21%. Engagement has only losttwice in the past 12 years, in 2020 and 2024. Last year's two-point drop inengagement was equal to the decline during the year of COVID-19 lockdowns andshelter-in-place orders. According to the latest State of the GlobalWorkplace 2025 report, released by Gallup. $9.6 trillion in productivity could be added to theeconomy if the global workforce were fully engaged. That would represent a 9% increase in global GDP. But ifleaders seize the moment, a productivity opportunity awaits. In fact, someorganizations are already enjoying the benefits of a highly engaged workforce.Manager engagement is the key to reversing declining productivity, improvingemployee well-being, and unlocking trillions in economic potential. As Founder of HEARTnomics, Hanna Bauer equips top teams with actionablestrategies to build cultures of resilience and clarity. In this video, I'm sharing an early look at the ideas from my new book coming out in 2026—work that is very close to my heart. I've spent the last several years asking one big question: How do we give ourselves the best possible chance of becoming the healthy, joyful, connected 90-year-old we hope to be? Why is it that some people are able to stay committed to a plan… while others struggle, even when they truly want to feel better? If you're someone who has a hard time staying consistent, please know this book—and this conversation—is especially for you. I break our well-being into eight important buckets: Hormone Optimization, Nutrition, Movement, Body Composition, Sleep, Emotional Wellness, Relational Wellness & Intimacy, and Fun & Joy. These are the areas that shape how we age, how we feel day to day, and how we show up in our relationships. In today's video, I walk you through each of these buckets and share why tuning into what you already know is good for you can become the motivation that carries you forward. With small, intentional choices, we can begin shaping the elder version of ourselves—one step, one day, one decision at a time. I've also included a PDF of the “Best Elder Day” wheel if you'd like to reflect on where you are now and where you'd love to go. LINK - https://bit.ly/3MpwfJX My hope is simple: that this gives you clarity, encouragement, and a gentle path toward becoming the elder you dream of being.

On Reimagining Love, we've done several solo episodes where Dr. Alexandra takes a seemingly simple and straightforward statement that folks are making about relationships. Then she pulls it apart to try to find more shades of grey, to add more complexity and layering to a phrase that she finds has gotten too simplistic. In today's episode, we are going to look at what it means when people say they've outgrown their relationship*. First, Dr. Alexandra will talk you through what she thinks people are saying when they say they've outgrown the relationship. By exploring the 'what-if mind,' we unpack how these relentless thoughts can spiral into overwhelming anxiety. The discussion centers on recognizing where our concerns originate, often rooted in our instinct to protect ourselves. While our minds are hardwired to anticipate dangers and potential problems, this survival mechanism can easily turn into an exhausting cycle of worry. The show emphasizes that these what-ifs can feel convincing and powerful, often painting scenarios that never materialize while neglecting positive outcomes. This pattern leads to a narrowed perspective, amplifying fear beyond reality. I stress the importance of not fighting or suppressing these thoughts but rather acknowledging their presence and gently guiding the mind back to the present—where our true power lies.Throughout the episode, I share strategies to help listeners identify and manage their what-if thoughts. The key is early recognition—skills that can be cultivated over time. I discuss the significance of labeling anxious thoughts as they arise, reframing them to acknowledge that they are simply future predictions and not current facts. This technique enables listeners to replace anxiety with grounding affirmations and return to their breath, thereby reclaiming their calm.#AnxietyRelief, #FutureAnxiety, #Overthinking, #WorryLess, #CalmYourMind, #WhatIfs, #AnxietySupport, #StressRelief, #AnxietyAwareness, #AnxietyTips, #EmotionalWellness, #QuietMind, #Mindfulness, #PresentMoment, #ReturnToNow, #BeHereNow, #BePresent, #MindfulLiving, #InTheMoment, #MindfulnessPractice, #CalmMind, #PeaceOfMind, #GuidedMeditation, #MeditationPractice, #BreathingExercises, #Breathwork, #Grounding, #Mantra, #Affirmations, #DailyMeditation, #MeditationJourney, #MindfulBreathing, #MentalHealth, #MentalHealthMatters, #SelfCare, #SelfLove, #PersonalGrowth, #InnerPeace, #Wellness, #Wellbeing, #Healing, #EndTheStigma, #AnxietyCoachesPodcast, #GinaRyan, #AnxietyCoach, #LifeCoach, #WellnessPodcast, #Coaching, #PodcastLife. #ACPSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
