The paradox of modern life hits hard in this raw, honest conversation about loneliness in a hyper-connected world. What begins with a surprising encounter - a Gen Z colleague who prefers coming to the office rather than working remotely - unfolds into a deeply relatable exploration of why we're all feeling so disconnected despite endless digital connections. We dive into that visceral, emotional reaction when someone unexpectedly checks in on you, and why it can bring you to tears. There's something profoundly different about physical presence versus digital interaction that our bodies recognize even when our minds try to convince us otherwise. As we observe, "I think there's something about physically hanging out with your friend... it's not the same" as connecting through screens. The conversation takes illuminating turns through personal stories of isolation, caregiving challenges, and the common misunderstandings around introversion and shyness. We challenge the popular notion that personality type determines your need for connection - the truth is, loneliness affects everyone regardless of where you fall on the social spectrum. One particularly poignant observation captures the irony of our times: "Because of this internet which has brought us together, we're more apart."We don't just commiserate - we explore practical strategies for rebuilding connection, from community groups to Meetup.com, and simple daily practices like music, humor, and outdoor activities that can ease the ache of isolation. This episode offers both validation for what so many are feeling and pathways toward meaningful connection in a world that often keeps us apart.Ready to feel less alone in your loneliness? Listen now, and then reach out to that friend you've been meaning to call - they might need to hear from you as much as you need to connect with them.Thank you for stopping by. Was Torri a little skeptical? Maybe! But when we dove in, turns out that after all, Torri IS in fact working on her mindset… Mindset work isn't always journaling, vision boards, or structured routines. Sometimes, it's choosing to stay positive in hard moments. It's having deep conversations, seeking connection, or just getting through the day with intention. In this episode, we talk about what mindset work really looks like, how to stay in a good headspace even when life gets messy, and why you might already be doing more mental work than you give yourself credit for. Whether you're deep in personal growth or just trying to feel more grounded, this one's for you. When we were younger, we thought adulting would mean total freedom—no rules, no curfews, and eating cake for dinner. But in this episode, we unpack what actually comes with adulthood: the responsibilities, the pressure, the mental load, and the surprise realization that not everyone around us “adults” the same way. We talk about how trauma (or lack of it) shapes our ability to manage life, why having a partner who can carry their share of the adulting load matters more than you'd expect, and what it really means to feel “prepared” for adulthood. This episode is part reflection, part therapy session, and part laugh-at-our-past-selves. Tune in and feel a little more seen in your own messy, real-life version of adulting. Robbie Bent is the co-founder of Othership—a multi-million dollar wellness movement centered around sauna, breathwork, cold plunge, and emotional connection. After a devastating startup failure left him broke and struggling with addiction, what began as backyard ice bath experiments during COVID evolved into one of the most innovative wellness concepts today. In this raw conversation, Robbie shares how his darkest moments led to discovering somatic practices that not only saved his life but inspired a business helping thousands heal together. Robbie and Megan explore why traditional therapy often falls short, how Othership became a "Trojan Horse" for emotional processing, and why the real transformation happens not in the sauna or ice bath—but in the vulnerable sharing that follows. Beyond the emotional insights, Robbie gets tactical about scaling brick-and-mortar businesses, dealing with copycats, founder mode versus delegation, and the profound loneliness of building something meaningful while trying to be a present father and husband. This conversation reveals why the future of wellness isn't about optimizing alone; it's about witnessing each other's humanity—and healing in community. Topics & Takeaways What Othership is and why it's more than sauna and ice baths The emotional regulation crisis and the new wave of wellness How hot/cold contrast therapy is a Trojan horse for emotional healing The science behind breathwork, group sharing, and co-regulation Why Robbie believes emotional health is “where fitness was in 2009” The story behind Othership's founders and their radically intentional space design Building emotional safety in a luxury-meets-humility environment From addiction and startup failure to healing and service How Robbie overcame shame, scarcity, and perfectionism The power of vulnerability and the healing force of group connection What makes Othership polarizing—and why that's the point Cult-like brand love, social wellness, and the death of shame How Robbie manages competition, fear, and founder pressure Why success is about how deeply you impact someone, not how many The Failure Factor Podcast was brought to you by Off The Field Coaching. Kelli shares her personal journey through trauma, the loss of her sister to suicide, and the moment she realized that talking about it could save lives. We explore the difference between survival and thriving, how to recognize when your coping mechanisms aren't healthy anymore, and what it looks like to raise emotionally aware children- especially when you're still learning to care for your own mental health. Ever wonder how you'll ever stop people-pleasing and say yes to yourself instead? This episode is for you! Set small boundaries first. Start with low-stakes situations to practice saying no or expressing your preferences. For example, choosing the restaurant when asked, or declining a small favor when you're genuinely busy. These smaller moments build your confidence for bigger boundary-setting situations.Pause before automatically agreeing. When someone asks something of you, try responding with "Let me check my schedule and get back to you" or "I need to think about that." This brief delay gives you space to consider what you actually want to do rather than reflexively saying yes to avoid disappointing someone.Remember that disappointment isn't dangerous. People-pleasers often fear others' negative reactions, but someone being temporarily disappointed or mildly upset doesn't mean you've done something wrong or that the relationship is in jeopardy. Most healthy relationships can handle occasional "no" responses, and those that can't may need reevaluation.Notice your internal warning signs. Pay attention to feelings of resentment, exhaustion, or anxiety that often accompany over-committing. These emotions are signals that you're stretching yourself too thin to accommodate others. When you catch these feelings early, you can course-correct before burning out.Practice stating your needs directly. Instead of hinting or hoping others will guess what you want, try expressing yourself clearly. Say "I'd prefer to meet at 2 PM" rather than "Whatever time works for you is fine." Direct communication often leads to better outcomes and reduces the mental energy spent on trying to read between the lines. The key is building these skills gradually. People-pleasing patterns developed over time, so changing them takes patience and consistent practice. Some resources for you:Want to see how you score as a confident communicator? The focus of perinatal mental health is often on mothers, but we can't discount the importance of fathers' mental health on children, families, and relationships. Dads everywhere are struggling, and they often do so in silence. We need to raise awareness of this aspect of mental health! The Monday after Father's Day is International Fathers' Mental Health Day, so I'm discussing this topic and sharing helpful information in today's episode. Show Highlights: The messaging to boys and men from society My approach with clients and their partners is to try to reach more fathers. A compassionate approach promotes healing. M&M episodes focused on fathers and their mental health: 345: A New Father's Experience Through His Wife's Postpartum Psychosis with Tony Pacitti 286: Foundations in Paternal Perinatal Mental Health with Dr. Daniel Singley 274: Healing from Paternal Postpartum Depression with Kevin Seldon 273: The Emotional Wellness of Fathers with Adam Angel, LCSW 242: The Value of Fathers and The Black Voice in Parenthood with Reginald Day 195: Paternal Postpartum Depression with David Levine 181: Fathers and Perinatal Mental Health with Dr. Sheehan Fisher 177: The Loss of a Wife and Mother to PPD with Steven D'Achille 23: “He's Not Talking About It,” A Father's Journey with Mark Williams Frightening statistics about fathers' mental health Stigma prevents men from reporting symptoms and seeking help. Risk factors for dads are similar to those of moms. (Dads are up to 50% more likely to experience perinatal mental health issues if their partner experiences them.) Dads can feel excluded from caregiving and disconnected from mom and baby. Dads should be screened just like moms! We can do better to meet the needs of fathers! Partners should check in with each other and check on each other's mental health. Why is it so hard to just be? In this episode, we unpack the tension between knowing we need rest… and still choosing productivity instead. From cleaning baseboards to reorganizing closets, we explore the emotional discomfort of stillness, the pressure to "earn" downtime, and why so many of us—especially parents and overachievers—find it easier to stay busy than to slow down. We also talk about the cultural messaging that ties our worth to our output, the guilt that creeps in during moments of rest, and how we can start to unlearn it. If you've ever felt like you need to “accomplish something” before you can relax, this conversation will help you reframe rest as necessary—not a reward. Listen in and let's challenge the narrative that rest has to be justified. In this episode of Literally First Class, Keri Ford dives into the often-misunderstood world of healing and mental health - specifically, what the industry gets wrong. From the limits of talk therapy to the overuse of trauma buzzwords, she breaks down why somatic work is the missing piece for real transformation. You'll hear why “trauma-informed” isn't enough, how to spot trained practitioners, and how true healing starts with permission, not perfection. It's candid, eye-opening, and packed with insights for growth-driven women ready to deepen their personal evolution. Takeaways: The healing and mental health space has significant gaps. Cognitive behavioral therapy often fails to create real transformation. Awareness alone is not enough for healing; integration is key. Healing involves allowing all feelings rather than trying to eliminate them. Permission is essential for true healing to occur. Over-pathologizing can perpetuate feelings of shame and brokenness. Spiritual bypassing can hinder genuine healing efforts. Not all practitioners are equally trained; discernment is crucial. Somatic work addresses the deeper layers of trauma. True healing requires a personalized approach based on individual experiences.
