The end is near. With Kennedy dead and Innsmouth in chaos, Arthur Clarke flees through the shadows with Ruth, a local nurse whose kindness may be their only lifeline. Meanwhile, Cora, Freddie, and Dr. Rooke uncover a chance at escape in the form of Brian Burnham. But the mob is closing in. Escape may be possible... if they survive long enough. Fate has other plans. Innsmouth isn't done with them yet. In this episode, we continue our playthrough of the scenario “Escape From Innsmouth” by Kevin A. Ross and others, and published by Chaosium. A merchant vessel enters a system with rigid laws about visitors, and almost succeeds in making a lucrative delivery, when it encounters a potentially deadly obstacle. Genre: Science Fiction Excerpt: We had obtained the means of shielding certain sections of engineering and the crew quarters. Cargo, I was happy to be transparent about. But there were things aboard my ship that I needed to hide. And I couldn't expect the crew to remove every questionable item. Our chief engineer would have disembarked if we didn't fly with a sufficient supply of his favorite snack, mokkie-bars. What story or stories am I revisiting in this episode? Each Season 8 episode is a standalone story, but it's connected to or inspired by a previous story through a character, a place, an object, a concept, a continuation of events (ahem, sequel), and so on. This story is connected to the Year Seven story entitled “A Tale of Nine Lemons,” in which a young man, whose parents have given his siblings all manner of wondrous parting gifts to help them make their fortunes in the world, is given a basket of lemons to make his fortune. The investigation into Innsmouth comes to a harrowing close as our team makes a desperate bid for escape. With damning photos in hand, their only hope lies in contacting Headquarters in Boston—but first, they'll need to find a phone. A risky encounter with a local splits the party, and what follows is a slow, agonizing unraveling of their chances. Each step forward demands a sacrifice, and every mistake tightens Innsmouth's grip. It's only a matter of time before the town swallows them whole. In this episode, we continue our playthrough of the scenario “Escape From Innsmouth” by Kevin A. To preserve their endangered houses, Black Radish, Purple Carrot, and Green Garlic send envoys to reach a garden hidden beyond the natural world. In this episode, we return briefly to the agents of PERENNIAL. Having narrowly slipped the grasp of Dr. Hooks and Coral Nomad, the agents have taken a desperate gamble and now find themselves airborne, hunted, fraying, and on borrowed time. Tuck and Warp pour over the case file of Daniel Freis while tasked with minding Tuck's supernaturally gifted sister, Mia. As the sky darkens, Merit lays plans for a final escape with Hyde, but the fractured pilot makes clear just how dire their situation truly is. When the others conclude their only path to survival runs through Tuck's sacrifice, she does not take it well. Lines are crossed. Things are said that cannot be unsaid. This is the final flight of PERENNIAL Airlines. Once the wheels touch ground, nothing will be the same. TRIGGER AND CONTENT WARNINGS: Language, Madness, Military Aggression, Death. Having narrowly escaped the clutches of Innsmouth's ever-vigilant law enforcement, our intrepid investigators seek refuge in the salt-bitten village of Falcon Point—a place where the coffee is black, the rum is questionably legal, and the fishermen gaze into the horizon like men who've seen too much… and lived to regret it. It is here, amidst card games and cryptic tales, that a new lead emerges. The night before, Freddy was able to confirm the existence of a series of sea caves in the northern cliffs. Smugglers once used them, or so they say.. With a borrowed longboat and more optimism than sense, the team sets off into the mist in search of the sea caves. What they find is far worse than the comforting rattle of contraband bottles. Runes that glow in an ancient language. Tunnels that echo with the sound of human moaning. Something ancient and hungry moves beneath the waterline. They were searching for proof. What they uncovered was a problem better left unsolved. In this episode, we continue our playthrough of the scenario “Escape From Innsmouth” by Kevin A. Ross and others, and published by Chaosium. A kitchen mishap leads to the accidental invention of the most powerful ice cream in the world. Genre: Science Fiction Excerpt: His portable, miniature laser beam healing aid flew out of his hand and landed in the still-open container of vanilla ice cream. Arthur pushed down the momentary surge of panic about the electronics in the laser. He reached out to pick the device out of the ice cream. Luminescent sparks made him recoil. What if eating ice cream could give you powers? Ah, cartoon logic. Gotta love it. I first explored the concept of imbuing food—well, a consumable product—with extraordinary abilities in a story called “Transpogum,” in which a few inventors attempt to make a chewing gum that allows a person to teleport. I just can't let go of the notion of gaining cool powers by eating fun foods. Two adventurous friends offer to help a scientist whose revolutionary invention for all mousekind isn't exactly authorized. Genre: Science Fiction, Fable Excerpt: “What happened to gravity?” Matchstick asked, as he pushed his legs against a stone. The stone moved away from him, and he, moved away from it, and toward the other two mice. Mischief reached into her satchel for her pencil and pad. “Fab, we fell into the isolated chronon field. The time for secondhand stories is over. With their leads running dry, the investigators finally set foot in Innsmouth—a rotting harbor town swaddled in fog and legends. What begins as a cursory stroll in their sedan soon twists into something far more unsettling. At a crumbling flophouse, they trace the last known movements of Kennedy's old shipmate, Zadok Allen. A suspiciously timed flat tire strands them there just long enough for Dr. Rooke to cross paths with Constable Birch—a man with eyes too wide and lips too flat to be entirely human. Then, led by a town drunk named Bilaki, who swears he knows Zadok, the team finally stops at The Garden Bar & Grill. Here, Freddy follows whispers of hidden tunnels beneath the streets. But something in the air is wrong—like the town itself is watching. Whether they leave on foot, by car, or at all, Innsmouth will not let them go unchanged. A studious, non-mischievous fairy fulfills her forbidden dream of traveling to the human realm...straight into a convenience store. Genre: Fairy Tale, Fantasy Excerpt: She passed her least favorite quill partly through the mirror and pulled it back to test. The quill appeared undamaged. So she next passed her least favorite finger through the mirror, gasping at the watery chill that passed through it as it passed through the mirror's surface. Her finger too seemed unharmed. And so, in the most reckless act that she had ever committed in her life thus far, Oddnever stepped through the mirror into the human realm. What story or stories am I revisiting in this episode? Weatherman Cliff Blazer is always receiving blazers from his fans. But the latest one he receives really takes the cake. Genre: Fantasy Excerpt: “So far, five people have come in complaining of difficulty breathing, and producing a strange croaking sound. Now, they're still being treated, and the hospital staff is hesitant to speculate on what could be causing this, but the reason we're reporting on this is that one of the patients has been discharged and we spoke to them earlier. They didn't want to be on camera, but…” Of course they didn't want to be on camera. What they had to say sounded preposterous. The patient had puked up a frog. And. What story or stories am I revisiting in this episode? Each Season 8 episode is a standalone story, but it's connected to or inspired by a previous story through a character, a place, an object, a concept, a continuation of events (ahem, sequel), and so on. Outerwear gone rogue! I've written about it before, only last time, it was a technological issue, in an episode call “One Killer Jacket.” And wild weather was a major component of yet another story I'd previously written, called “The Rainheralds.” MERCH!Interested in merch, like mugs and notebooks, featuring my artwork? A weatherman, from waist up, facing forward and standing slightly left of center before a screen showing a generic weather map. He's wearing a fancy-looking blazer over shirt and tie. The blazer is patterned with sparkling stars and colorful nebulas. He holds his hands to the blazer's button. A watch and ring on ring finger is visible on his left hand. His left eyebrow is arched. On the weather display, bottom right, a snow flurry is moving in. Top left, an overlay of temperatures. Top right, a cloud under which raindrops and cats and dogs are falling. The rectangular image is made square with top and bottom borders that display portions of the main image, distorted as if blotted with a paint brush. Watermark of “Storyfeather” outside and along the weatherman's right upper arm.

The investigators follow a tenuous trail into the past, visiting Pastor Ezekial Wallace—a reclusive old man clinging to eerie artwork and half-remembered truths about Innsmouth. His haunted recollections deepen the mystery, confirming something ancient and malignant. Later, the team seeks answers from George Cole, a volatile psych patient who was once a citizen of Innsmouth. Cora takes the lead, attempting to soothe the savage man and unlock the secrets buried in his fractured mind. With each unsettling clue, the path narrows—Innsmouth looms closer, cloaked in fog and waiting. In this episode, we continue our playthrough of the scenario “Escape From Innsmouth” by Kevin A. Ross and others, and published by Chaosium. TRIGGER AND CONTENT WARNINGS: Language, Madness, Implied Sexual Violence, Spirituality, Death, PTSD. Story at-a-glance Cognitive shuffling helps transition your mind to sleep by mimicking your brain's natural shift from focused thinking to random, dreamlike patterns Instead of trying to clear your mind, choose a simple word and think of other words starting with each letter to gently redirect overthinking The technique works by providing just enough mental distraction without stimulation, making it ideal for people with racing bedtime thoughts Adding visualization and coordinated breathing enhances the effectiveness by engaging your senses and activating your body's relaxation response With consistent practice, your brain learns to associate the shuffling process with winding down, creating a sustainable sleep routine without sleep aids
