This is one seriously great dance number, with a powerful sense of menace that you don't normally find in Disco music... Which is why I've decided to put it in the Philly Soul genre instead. No matter... it's a must-have 1975 rarity. Group is New York duo Mike Felder (guitar) and Bill Daniels (piano). They didn't make an album, just a couple of singles, which is why you won't find this tune in Apple Music, Spotify, or other primarily-album-based services. This promo has a somewhat shorter version than on the retail release. Note: This beautiful copy comes in a vintage Arista Records factory sleeve. Label: Map City 307 djYear: 1971Condition: MPrice: $30.00Stereo/Mono promo copy. This is one of a handful of singles by a mid-Atlantic soul group produced by Vince Poncia on the obscure Map City label he founded in 1969 with songwriting partner Pete Anders. (Anders-Poncia were also known as the Tradewinds and wrote a number of great, classic songs for Kama Sutra and its associated labels until leaving to form Map City.) "Freedom" has a wonderful, complex arrangement with a great beat and superb lead vocal. The horn parts sound just like vintage Chicago, and then they throw in an electric guitar to the mix! This beautiful copy has pristine Mint audio.

Label: Bearsville 49779 djYear: 1981Condition: M-Price: $12.00Stereo/Mono promo copy. Well, this one is just too good to let waste away in obscurity. Probably too poppy for Foghat's usual fans, it still sports some top-notch guitar work. And it's an absolutely perfect little slice of power pop! The picture sleeve has a great group photo on the back, as well as the full song lyrics. It has pristine Mint audio.

Label: Sound Stage 7 1520 djYear: 1976Condition: MPrice: $20.00Stereo/Mono promo copy. Here's the best evidence I've heard yet that there was definitely life for Betty Everett after the 1960's. This has got to be one of the hottest soul tracks I've heard lately... Smokin'! Note: This copy comes in a vintage Sound Stage 7 Records factory sleeve. It has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio).

Label: Epic 10864 djYear: 1972Condition: M-Price: $22.00Stereo/Mono promo copy. The overwhelming feeling of joy in this performance is truly infectious... And notice that what's been found is not just "love" or "a love," but "The love"! How radio failed to notice it is beyond me, but don't you miss out! I'm adding a snippet to the Classic 45s jukebox so I can keep the sound handy. :-) Note: This copy comes in a vintage Epic Records factory sleeve. The A side label has very light ringwear (doesn't show up well in the scan). The audio, I'm pleased to say, is pristine Mint!

Label: Buddah 475 djYear: 1975Condition: MPrice: $9.00From a warehouse find, this is a new, unplayed Stereo/Mono promo copy, in its original factory sleeve. This is some terrific female funk, courtesy of New Orleans soul guru Allen Toussaint.

Label: Motown 1321 djYear: 1974Condition: M-Price: $16.00Stereo/Mono promo copy. This amazing, compelling instrumental is simply too "different" to describe in words... so have a listen to the mp3 "snippet" and see if you don't come away wanting to hear more! As I say, really compelling! By the way, I checked, and this is getting added to my growing list of "lost tunes"... songs that aren't available in iTunes. Also, there was a vocal version of this number, but apparently Motown decided to promote the backing instrumental over the vocal version at some point. In any case, no album was ever released for this group, so this is a non-album single. Note: This beautiful promo 45 has very nearly Mint labels and vinyl, and pristine Mint audio.

Label: WB 49524 djYear: 1980Condition: MPrice: $15.00Stereo/Mono promo copy. This early single was released from the same album and just before their breakthrough hit, 'Whip It.' Though it didn't get much radio play at the time, it's definitely one of their 'greatest hits.' Note: This beautiful promo 45 record has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio).

Label: Vigor 1730 djYear: 1976Condition: M-Price: $12.00Stereo/Mono promo copy. Talk about a sleeper! This under-appreciated 1976 gem was the only chart appearance (squeaking in at #95 on the Billboard Black/RnB Singles chart) for Ms. Black, who had an equally excellent followup single that likewise went nowhere in airplay and sales. I fell in love instantly and quickly put a snippet in the Classic 45s jukebox... Have a listen! Note: With pristine Mint labels, this beautiful copy's vinyl and audio aren't far from pristine. Like the retail release, this essential single has a delightful 3:57 edited version of the much longer (5:56) album cut. This promo offers a full Stereo version, which the retail copies don't have. Note: This beautiful copy comes in a vintage ABC Records factory sleeve. It has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio).

Label: Atlantic 2869 djYear: 1972Condition: MPrice: $25.00Stereo/Mono promo copy. Not a huge hit, but definitely deserving of more airplay than it got... Have a listen to the mp3 "snippet" to see why I rate it so highly. By the way, this promo is quite special in that it has a full Stereo version as well as the Mono, which was on the retail release. Note: This beautiful copy has a touch of ringwear on the Mono label but no other notable flaws. The audio is pristine Mint.

Label: Sire 29953 djYear: 1982Condition: M-Last Price: $16.00. Not currently available for sale.Stereo/Mono promo copy. It's a crime to pop music history in America that this classic synth-pop recording failed to get the proper airplay here. Even more criminal is that it wasn't even released on 45 in the group's native U.K and didn't chart there until a 1990 release resurrected it. Fortunately, it was quite well known in dance clubs at the time. Alison Moyet is simply one of the best female vocalists of all time! The A side is a specially edited version of the 5:45 LP cut, and the B side is a terrific "Dub" version not available on album. This is the second pressing, credited to "Yaz" on the record but "Yazoo" on the cool picture sleeve. Note: This beautiful promo 45 has Mint labels and very nearly Mint vinyl and audio. The audio is Mint for most of its duration, but I noted a few moments of surface noise right at the beginning. The picture sleeve is Near Mint with a touch of ringwear in one spot but no other notable flaws.

Label: Atlantic 3574 djYear: 1979Condition: MPrice: $12.00This is a new, unplayed Stereo/Mono promo copy, in its original factory sleeve. In case you have somehow avoided being infected by this acutely catchy tune, here's your opportunity! You can find an mp3 snippet of this in the Classic 45's jukebox! This Abba tune differs from most of their catalog in a couple respects: It's one of their rare A side tracks that features a male lead vocal (in this case, Bjorn Ulvaeus). It's also one of their few hard rockers, opening with that instantly memorable rhythm and punchy lead guitar.

Label: Columbia 45230 djYear: 1970Condition: MPrice: $25.00Stereo/Mono promo copy. What a gorgeous performance! I can't find a category that this fits in neatly in, so I keep going back and forth between jazz and soul. Oh well, I've made a snippet of part of the middle that I like best... enjoy! The snippet is in Mono, like the retail release, but this promo offers a full Stereo version as well! Note: This 45 record comes in a vintage Columbia Records factory sleeve. I'm putting this one in the "jukebox" for those of you who may have forgotten this classic, or (heaven forbid!) have never been captured by its rhythms before. It's specially edited from a 4:11 album track. Collector Nerd Alert: This is a first-pressing copy, with no mention of Warner Bros. in the perimeter print. Note: This beautiful promo copy has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio).

Label: MGM 14799 djYear: 1975Condition: MPrice: $18.00This is a new, unplayed Stereo/Mono promo copy, in its original MGM Records factory sleeve. This rarely seen single has a dynamite Northern Soul-meets-Disco dancer. The group's name is an acronym for "The Ultimate Musical Experience." Note: Some of these copies may have a touch of storage wear on the labels, but they're otherwise pristine Mint.

Label: Salsoul 2095 djYear: 1978Condition: MPrice: $150.00Stereo/Mono promo copy. This rare and wonderful single (check out the mp3 "snippet" of it!) comes courtesy of a Germany-based group that made only one album. This 45 version is slightly edited from a 4:00 album track. Note: This beautiful 45 record has Mint labels and pristine sound.

Label: Columbia 46076 djYear: 1974Condition: M-Last Price: $12.00. Not currently available for sale.Stereo/Mono reissue. With rock 'n' roll this true and wonderful, how did America manage to ignore these guys? I guess it was Ian's heavy accent... Oh well, this song is a classic! Note: This beautiful promo copy comes in a vintage Columbia Records factory sleeve. It looks almost new and has pristine Mint sound.

Label: MCA 40100 djYear: 1973Condition: MPrice: $12.00Stereo/Mono promo copy. This is one of the most sublime recordings to come out of 1973. It's a song that everyone knows, but which has never been a huge hit for anyone. A few Country artists did fine covers — in particular, Sammi Smith's 1977 version — and if you do a search in iTunes, you'll find umteen covers by folks like the Dixie Chicks, Elvis Presley, Kris Kristofferson & Rita Coolidge, Kenny Rogers, Millie Jackson, and Irma Thomas. But frankly, this one beats 'em all, except perhaps for Sammi Smith's (he says, hedging). BTW, the jukebox "snippet" presents the second half of this powerful performance... just because I had to pick one half or the other. :-) Note: This beautiful promo 45 comes in a vintage MCA Records factory sleeve. Label: Arista 0200 djYear: 1976Condition: MLast Price: $15.00. Not currently available for sale.From a warehouse find, this is a new, unplayed promo copy, in its original Arista factory sleeve. For Eric Carmen fans, this is a terrific find... on the same catalog number as the commercial release of "Sunrise," Arista also sent out promo copies with a 4:00 live version of this classic, recorded at the Roxy in March 1976. As far as I've been able to determine, this excellent live version never appeared on any other album or 45. Most of the promo issues had the LP version in Stereo/Mono, whereas this release has a stereo version on both sides.

Label: I.R.S. 9907 djYear: 1982Condition: MLast Price: $14.00. Not currently available for sale.Stereo/Mono promo copy. This is simply one of the very best girl group songs of all time. Unlike their Sixties counterparts, though, these girls write their own songs, play their own electric guitars and drums, and sing about the lovelife of working girls who are way past sweet sixteen! Label: 20th Century 2018Year: 1973Condition: MLast Price: $14.00. Not currently available for sale.This is a new, unplayed Stereo/Mono promo copy, in its original 20th Century factory sleeve. This is a beautiful Mint copy of Barry White's first smash hit single, which even today remains one of the sexiest dance tunes ever recorded. My wife and I just started dancing to it, and it was an extreme effort to get back to work and write this down. *Whew* This single has a specially edited version of a 7:20 album track. (The mp3 "snippet" I felt compelled to make... just don't hear it often enough! ... is a further editing of the spoken/instrumental intro, in order to get to the end of the first chorus without making the file too large... B.W. please forgive. :-)). Note: This 45 record has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio).

Here's a beautiful, hard-to-find promo copy of the first — and some think best — Cars single, in its original picture sleeve. Note on the jukebox snippet: Sorry! I had to trim a few seconds off the beginning in order to fit the snippet into the jukebox. This is a song where the author makes you wait forever for the chorus...! Note: This beautiful 45 record has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio), and the picture sleeve is nearly flawless!

Unforgettable guitar line, great arrangement, everything works! This Canadian group is led by Martha Johnson (vocals) and Mark Gane (guitar). Note: This beautiful promo 45 record comes in a Near Mint picture sleeve, whose only notable flaw is one tiny tear at the top front edge. The 45 itself has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio).

Label: Columbia 10617 djYear: 1977Condition: M-Price: $14.00Stereo/Mono promo copy. Terrific Northern Soul-style dancer... have a listen to the jukebox snippet! It'll make you wonder why this one didn't climb higher on the chart, though it did spend 9 weeks on the national Billboard RnB/Black chart, which indicates it was probably a hit in some markets. By the way, this was a non-album single, as the singer made no albums. Note: This beautiful 45 record comes in a vintage Columbia Records factory sleeve. It has Near Mint labels, and the vinyl (styrene) looks Near Mint with some light scuffing. The grooves preserve pristine Mint audio!

The vocal is by Prince Phillip Mitchell. Like the retail release, this promo has a specially edited version of a 5:49 album track. Note: This beautiful copy comes in a vintage Buddah Records factory sleeve. The grooves preserve pristine audio.

Label: Sire 29569 djYear: 1983Condition: MPrice: $8.00This is a new, unplayed Stereo/Mono promo copy... pristine Mint. Like the retail release, this is a specially edited version of a 4:30 LP cut. Yaz didn't cut a bad single, and this is definitely one of their best. In addition to the crisp original techno instrumentation, Alison Moyet delivers a truly affecting vocal. The song itself never stops getting more interesting as it moves along... a remarkable achievement! Indispensable Country Rock classic... this was the second New Riders single released from the band's first LP, when the the band included Jerry Garcia from the Grateful Dead on pedal steel and banjo. This great, Dead-sounding track was written by singer/guitarist John Dawson. Note: This beautiful promo 45 record comes in a vintage Columbia Records factory sleeve. It has pristine Mint sound.

This essential Boston single is specially edited from a 4:55 album track (same edit as on retail copies). Note: This beautiful copy comes in a vintage Epic Records factory sleeve. This was the first release of this classic... it spent 13 weeks on the chart in this incarnation and then another 10 weeks when it was re-released (still in 1980) on Elektra 47052 with 'The Beat Goes On' on the B side. Note: This 45 record comes in a vintage Elektra/Asylum Records factory sleeve. It has Near Mint labels and untouched-looking vinyl. The audio sounds pristine Mint.

More evidence that the Moodies weren't the wimps they are sometimes made out to be. Great drumming, singing, bass & guitar work add up to classic rock that just doesn't get played much anymore. Note: This beautiful, Near Mint promo 45 comes in a vintage London Group Records factory sleeve. It has a little "bubbling" on the Near Mint labels. This rare single is essential Specials from the U.K. Reggae/Ska revival. Check out our mp3 "snippet" of it. The vinyl looks untouched but grades Near Mint to reflect one light scuff. The sleeve has no notable flaws... such a great collectable by itself!

Label: Cotillion 47005 djYear: 1982Condition: MPrice: $10.00This is a new, unplayed Stereo/Mono promo copy, in its original Atlantic Group factory sleeve. This single had two great sides, and Cotillion released promos for both. This was the first promo (and the better of the two sides, IMHO), and shortly thereafter a promo for "Heart To Heart" was released. Have a listen to the mp3 "snippet" of this delightful Philly Soul-style dancer. As on the stock release, this promo 45 record has a specially edited version of a 4:10 album track. Label: Reprise 1339 djYear: 1975Condition: M-Last Price: $16.00. Not currently available for sale.Stereo/Mono promo copy. The single has a slightly different—and shorter (no fade-in)—mix than the 3:38 album cut. This was the tune that got the Fleetwood Mac hit machine rolling in the mid- to late-1970's. It's also perhaps my personal favorite cut from their first album in their revitalized configuration (with Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham added to the mix). Interesting to note that that album, simply called Fleetwood Mac, generated three Top 20 singles, but none that made the Top 10 in Billboard's Hot 100 chart: Over My Head (#20, released November 2005) Rhiannon (#11, released March 2006) Say You Love Me (#11, released July 2006) Note: This gorgeous copy comes in a vintage Warner/Reprise Records factory sleeve. I was so awestruck by the clean audio on this copy that I had to record the Stereo version again. Once that was done, I made a snippet for the "jukebox" (in mono)... have a listen! This copy has pristine Mint labels and audio, and the vinyl is Near Mint, reflecting some very slight storage wear.

I've been in love with this tune since the very first time I heart Burton Cummings belting out that acapella intro back in '74. It's great to have a copy back in the store! Note: This promo 45 record comes in a vintage RCA Records factory sleeve. It has Near Mint labels and vinyl, and pristine Mint audio.

This fabulous number definitely deserves to be better known, even if you don't live in D.C. (the home of Rock Creek Park). It actually has developed a big cult following in recent years... check out the mp3 "snippet" if you don't know the tune, or just want to hear a bit of it. The A side is a specially edited version of a 4:35 album track. Note: This beautiful promo copy has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio). The sound is awesome, especially in this pristine state. Remember: This 45 pressing has much higher fidelity and sound quality than the LP version. OK, EWF fans, here's one of the pinnacles of the group's career, presented on a gorgeous promo copy. This was their first chart-topper on both the Pop and Black Billboard charts, was their first Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, and turned out to be the biggest hit of their long career! Quite a lot of accomplishments for one little 45. From the arresting funk guitar line at the beginning, to the arresting a capella vocals at the end, the fun just doesn't stop. (Oh, and did I mention that all the action takes place in less than 3 minutes? That's a 45!) With this single, it was clear that Maurice White & the band had finally found their own unique groove.... and aren't we all fortunate that they did!
